Idris grew up in an orphanage in the City of New Stetven, making fast friends and rivals among the children. She befriended and aided a priest of Gorum, Father Kilkynn, at the Bulwark, who saw potential in her and financed her entry into a swordfighting academy. Learning the styles of the Aldori dueling sword, she was disappointed to discover that, even with the priest's patronage, she could only rise so far in the disciplines without a noble title. She wishes to prove herself and either gain the nobility that is denied her, or demonstrate that nobility is unnecessary for success.

Close Friend: Maria Arlenna from the orphanage -- she and Idris considered themselves sisters, and when they turned 15 both of them went to a tattoo artist to get matching tattoos. She is still in New Stetven last time Idris checked.

Friend: Father Kilkynn of the Bulwark of Gorum; see above.

Acquaintance: One member of the swordfighting academy stood out to her: a young noble boy, younger than her, named Jakob Aldori, who despite his standing, never treated her with anything other than kindness.

Rival: Another member of the swordfighting academy, Joanne Yalven, whose parents were petty nobles but never missed a chance to lord it over the 'charity case' as she called Idris. After the encounter with Joanne at the trading post, Idris feels cheated by fate -- she never truly wished for Joanne's death, but due to the circumstances was unable to best her one-on-one in the spirit of a duel.

Enemy: She hates the smug, superior face of Count Brokav, the instructor who told her flat out that no matter how hard she tried, she would never amount to anything more than a living practice dummy for the real swordlord candidates. She doesn't care for killing or death except when necessary, but in her secret heart, she'd love to see Brokav's face when she ran him through with her sword after defeating him in a duel. After defeating Joanne, she finds herself imagining ways to get Brokav out here in the Stolen Lands where she can kill him.
