About Kivan CorsanBackground and NPC interactions:
Background: Born on the 15th of Rova Kivan grew up right in the middle of Issia. He lived in a small village and was raised by two kindly half-elves who took care of him, but never answered his questions about who his parents were. It was in this little village that Kivan learned about his natural gift in the arcane arts. He showed his adopted parents his new "tricks", but instead of pride all he saw in their eyes was fear. They had an argument that night with his parents trying to get him to never do anything related to magic ever again, and Kivan unwilling to listen to them left that very night. Kivan ran and ran throughout the night until he finally collapsed from hunger. It was there that he was discovered by a party heading to Port Ice. Deciding to take the fellow in they brought Kivan to the Port and then immediately charged him for room and board on the way there. Not having any money Kivan quickly went around trying to find someway to pay off his debt. A small old dwarf by the name of Edwin saw this and found an opportunity for free labor. Approaching Kivan Edwin offered to help him pay his debts if he would work for him. Kivan having no other choice agreed. Edwin paid off his costs and took Kivan to his modest home near the port. It was there that Kivan meet Edwin's other apprentice Terran. Terran was strange for while he didn't read any books he still could do magic. Kivan and Terran instantly took a minor disliking of each other and began to see which of them could enjoy the master's favor. While Terran was better at having arcane effects he was lacking in the knowledge department. Kivan was moderately good at arcana and began to pull ahead in their duel. It was then that Kivan met a strange woman who would help him win the duel once and for all. The half-elf's name was Viconia and she agreed to help Kivan win if he would help her "liberate" some goods. Not knowing what she actually was doing Kivan agreed and helped her steal quite a few objects. In return she gave him several tomes of magic that had been banned in Port Ice due to being of an "unseemly" manner. With these books in tow Kivan not only won his master's favor, but also learned the arcane art of storing spells in his shadow. With his defeat Terran made one final bet with Kivan. One of them would become the best mage in the world, but Terran wouldn't do so there. It was in the middle of the night that he left and Kivan hasn't seen him since. After winning his duel Kivan didn't know what to do so he sought out Viconia's advice. She simply told him to go make his fortune out in the Stolen Lands. Agreeing to share the wealth when he got back Kivan went to his master to get his approval. Edwin wasn't happy that both of his apprentices were leaving, but finally agreed and allowed him to go. Kivan's travel through the Stolen Lands wasn't his greatest idea. He helped a half-orc named Xen, but was attacked by this same man and had his arm cut open. While Kivan had never been the strongest this wound all but destroyed what little strength he had left. Glad that he didn't depend on his strength Kivan uses conjuration to help him most of the time. It is with a heavy heart that Kivan continues for he now not only has a very weak body, but he also hasn't found any books that would increase his knowledge of the arcane. Rights, Wrongs, Motivations, and Personality:
Relations:
Friend: Viconia Duras- Viconia was as different from Kivan as night was to day. While Kivan was book smart and quite gullible. Viconia had never opened a book in her life, but knew the streets and their language like the back of her hand. It was quite a surprise then when they decided to form a team to help get some of the more unseemly things for Kivan's and Edwin's research. Viconia was the first person to broach the matter of going into the wilderness and was the person who convinced him. She was sad to see him go, but remembers their promise to bring back any valuables they found and share them when they met again. Acquaintance: Salkar Hizen- Salkar was Kivan's adopted father. Not knowing who his real mom or dad was Kivan grew up in a household of some kindly half elves, but they never seemed to connect. While they wanted Kivan to live a simple life Kivan never could agree so he left without saying a word one night to go find a mage who would teach him the arcane arts. While they now know where he is neither side has decided to send any form of letter or message to the other. Rival: Terran Bister- Terran was the other student master Edwin had, but while Kivan worked for his knowledge. Terran was naturally gifted. He was able to control the forces of arcane magic unlike anybody had ever seen before, but that didn't stop Kivan from trying. They both thought the other was foolish for continuing this duel, but neither would stop. Terran and Kivan currently have a bet going on about who would be the better mage. Both have gone their respective ways in the hopes of becoming famous mages. Enemy: Xen Fahis- Kivan met Xen on one of his first outings. He saw Xen crying out for help while being attacked by a group of four men. Thinking that Xen was being attacked by robbers Kivan quickly went down and assisted Xen. With their combined might Xen and Kivan quickly put the bandits to flight. It was after this that Xen revealed that he had actually been the bandits leader and they had tried to stop him from burning a farm down with all the women and children inside. It was with this statement that Xen attacked Kivan. He opened a horrible wound on Kivan's arm and then left laughing as he took on of Kivan's prized possessions a book on demon summoning. Kivan tracked Xen and found his campsite where he discovered the destroyed book. In revenge Kivan destroyed Xen's campsite and killed his horse before leaving. When Xen got back and saw the destruction he swore he would put that mage back in his place. Character Sheet:
