Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

Tanith is the only beatstick who can reach the higher up smoke monsters I think, so wiping out the next to last one there is probably good.

Rodrigo could summon a decent flying creature?

I'll have to start burning more APs for bombs if Tanith whiffs smacking that last flying monster.

Liberty's Edge

Can't you use your crossbow or gun? I don't remember them having DR, though I admit I only just started paying attention to that this round.

RPG Superstar 2010 Top 32, 2011 Top 4

Oh, they have a very obnoxious DR going on. If I'd hit more with my last attack, I was going to spend an AP on Clustered Shots.

Liberty's Edge

Ahh. Guess my rapier was even less effective than hoped :0

I can post later, sorry. Rodrigo will begin enlarging Farrukh, and his enlarge on Tanith completes.

Thanks, now it's monster crunch time!

Again, anyone willing to be on my "pit crew" and give feedback on my draft before submission would be great.

I have no classes right now, so feel free to drop me a pm.

RPG Superstar 2010 Top 32, 2011 Top 4

Apologies, had a hellish day of travel yesterday and missed the announcement entirely. (For some reason, thought it was gonna be today.) Congrats on moving onward! If you want more pit crewing, I'm happy to lend an eye, but caveat emptor: I suck at monster creation (the monster round was my doom my first year Superstaring), which generally makes me a poor judge.

Female Kobold

In the event that they're to be NPCed, any suggestions for Rod and Tanith? Bear in mind both of them are extremely unlikely to be able to make the Perception checks.

Liberty's Edge

Male Underpowered Warrior 1

You could probably delay them to Farrukh and Carina's initiative before NPCing. Otherwise, Tanith might spend a round buffing (I don't think he has divine favor going yet) and healing, and Rodrigo would probably at least send in the archons.

Female Kobold

Minor mistype: The current age is the Age of Men, not the Age of Mortals. The Age of Mortals was part of the Age Before Age, signalling the birth of the aboleths.

Why is it called the "Age of Men" when it is in fact the Age of non-aboleth mortals of all races and genders? That's one of life's great Greyhawk was written way back when and it's naturally pretty patriarchal as a consequence mysteries!

I didn't even know the aboleth thing. So they functioned as a progenitor race here too? Is that a recent addition to the lore? Doesn't feel like it's something Gygax would have made up.

Liberty's Edge

Male Underpowered Warrior 1

Yeah, that's surprising. I thought Golarion was original in that respect.

Female Kobold

Well, James Jacobs and Erik Mona did work on parts of Greyhawk's history, including this part. I believe the main source of the Greyhawk origin story came out in 2006.

RPG Superstar 2010 Top 32, 2011 Top 4

Ah, yeah, that makes sense then.

Female Kobold

There's a surprising amount of overlap between what Paizo did in D&D/Greyhawk and what Paizo did in Golarion. Or maybe it's not so surprising at all.

In case it's not obvious, I forgot to refresh and was replying to Carina and Astraden's earlier questions.

Female Kobold

Incidentally, "Governor-Mayor" isn't so much a position you "run for". It's an appointed position, but with everything that's happened, those currently in charge would be willing to cave to popular opinion if it was overwhelming.

RPG Superstar 2010 Top 32, 2011 Top 4

'Gee, boss, maybe you should gather the townsfolk and organize a plebiscite to determine whether Diamond Lake should form an independent democracy no longer beholden to a distant power that singlehandedly determines who oversees the town without any input from the people living here!' doesn't have quite the same punch, though.

Temp Acid Resist: 30|Action Points: 8/13|Bombs: 11/23|Female Undine (Formerly Yugoloth-Spawn Tiefling) Alchemist (Chirurgeon) 16|HP: 108/85|AC: 22(36)/14(23)/19(26)|Saves: +15 Fort (+20 vs. Poison), +18 Ref, +12 Will (+1 vs. Enchantments)|Initiative: +3|Perception: +21

Are the Will saves mind-affecting effects?

Female Kobold

No, it's a sonic evocation.

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

Hey, Eben finally gets to use Well-Versed!

RPG Superstar 2010 Top 32, 2011 Top 4

Ohhh, thanks for pointing that out; I'm sure I'd have forgotten (or at least had to retcon the bonus in) otherwise.

Also, does the effect count as coming from a lawful creature? (For purposes of the resistance bonus from Astraden's magic circle.)

Edit: not that it matters, failed the save even factoring it in.

Female Kobold

I think you can probably assume the bonus applies. It is a Law effect, after all.

Female Kobold

I should note that Farrukh is about 95% sure these traps automatically reset (not counting the one he took down).

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

Does he know about how long that would take?

Female Kobold

Hm...No time is given. That may mean it's instant, but I'll go with 1d4 rounds.

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

If no time is given, that generally means a trap doesn't reset on its own.

Well, I'll try and disable it again regardless.

Female Kobold

It does say "Automatic Reset"—it just doesn't give a time. Which is, impractically enough, fairly standard for trap descriptions.

I had the exact same problem with that enthrall trap*, and also went with 1d4 rounds in the end. And I was the designer!

*For non-kobolds: From a game I ran.

Battle at the Rift, The Isle of Last Resort

I'm just holding off to see if Rodrigo and/or Robin want to aid before moving ahead. Otherwise, I'll move on in the morning.

Female Kobold

So, as an FYI, my fall term's starting up again tomorrow, so posting may decrease a little bit.

That ooze had basically one shot at really ruining Farrukh's day. Didn't roll a 14. And so Farrukh's day remained shiny and bright.

Dear god, you make that sound horrifying, Gark.

But yeah, best wishes, Jelani!

Female Kobold

Sorry, I've been extremely busy this weekend. I'll post in the morning.

Female Kobold

I like to imagine Robin's confessions being filmed like this.

Female Kobold

As an aside: I know there are probably concerns about leaving one player separated from everyone else without much to do. So I want to clarify something. When I messaged DCow suggesting he make a return, it was always with the understanding that if the big spider targeted anybody, it would start with Robin.

I liked the idea of getting some closure on the one original partymember who left without dying. Since this installment is essentially a "farewell" to Diamond Lake, it seemed like just the place to do it. But Cow still doesn't have an overabundance of spare time, and I didn't want to strain his schedule. Flycatcher offered a good potential compromise, taking him out of the action close to the halfway point. Had the spider not caught Robin, he would have most likely been relegated to accompanying Allustan out. So don't feel bad about leaving Robin behind.

Killing Flycatcher was never really an option, anyways. Everyone loves Flycatcher. Flycatcher is described in the installment as "the most important and lovable character in this adventure path", and if the players do not like him, the GM is recommended to "have Flycatcher follow them throughout the rest of the adventure, giving snappy one-liners and goofy catchphrases at everything the party does. This will help him to grow on your players. If the PCs continue to be needlessly difficult, begin moving their alignments towards evil for this unjustified cruelty towards the poor, sweet Flycatcher."

Heh. I hate when they write stuff like that into modules. I don't feel bad about Robin though, you mentioned his appearance was just a cameo from the beginning.

Quick Update:

We're approaching the end of escrow and I'll be moving into my new digs shortly afterward. I should have my computer set up first thing and I'll be back up to 50% posting capacity at least. I apologize for the slackiness this past couple months.

Female Kobold

Great! That's totally fine—I've been a bit slackish myself while adjusting to the new schedule (by which I mean the new existence of a schedule at all after four months' sitting around on my ass replaying Portal).
