Jehova's Arena (Test) (Inactive)

Game Master Jehova

This is the test for a longer term arena campaign, with combatants beginning at level 1 and advancing through combat. Some rules and specifics are still being worked out, so it's not ready for full campaign status yet.

Scarab Sages

Bruno and his shiney lance are ready for Splatters!

Macho level 2 is also ready

I believe I'm going to go with a new character, by the name of Kailin.

I will PM stats as soon as they're ready. Shouldn't take more than another half-hour probably, so he's up for battle.

For a second I thought you typed Krillin...

Ha, it's a little funny, you might see a dragon with him.

Scarab Sages

I've always wanted to splatter a dragon. :)

Well, you'll probably be able to do so... at least before he's higher level.

Scarab Sages

Doesn't matter. Splatted a dragon.
You know after a pint or two (or ten) it's going to be a Great Wyrm anyway. :D

Fair enough. I'll make sure he's worth a good story.

Incidentally, I can't even imagine how Jack'll look wasted and mutagen'd. Hoo boy.

Scarab Sages

We're about to find out, so get imagining. :P

Boom. Alias for the new contender.

Sorry, Choon, your dragon doesn't look quite like a dragon yet, but he'll get there :P

Summoner... Great... I didn't even need to look... I just know you are...

Well, it's pretty obvious in the alias, yeah.

But oi, summoner hate, that fast? Sheesh. Between this and the alchemist thing, should I just be making a Barb to splatter people? -_-' Maybe that'll be my next combatant.

Ahh, the question about wealth, go ahead and add anything that the second level characters have gained for WBL. I may be doing some revisions to the wealth rules between levels, but let's try it for now. Azaelas, are you back in the combat pool? I want to decide battles randomly, so as many people in as possible would be cool :P I'm assuming Loup is gone at this point, but if he, Edward, or anyone else want to jump in, simply post the name and level and link to the alias.

I am working on a Fighter(Viking) of all levels that way you can send me into any combat at any level with just a little bit of work...

And it isn't Hate. It is more of the fact that I am not looking forward to a fight with a Summoner...

I dunno, I'm a little scared for both my Summoner and his eidolon. I've seen enough people dropped in one hit already, I'm not so sure about having two of them, with neither having all that much health. I suppose they could probably be worse off though, so I guess we'll just see what happens :P

Just depends on who is smarter, you or your opponent.

I dunno. Charge-splat has worked pretty well, and it doesn't strike me as 'smart,' per se.

Then again, I suppose by that logic, it really should be easy enough to deal with, and yet...

Placement and arrangement are key.

If I can reach you I can splat you. If I can't I can only go after the Eidolon.

Scarab Sages

Ya, charge-splat like Bruno's isn't hard to negate if you play smart. If you don't pay attention though you're probably dead.

Well, I guess we'll see what happens in the arena. Don't want to give away their main plan of attack :P

Scarab Sages

It's not like that particular attack of Bruno's is a secret. He has other tricks. :)

Hmm... I kind of dislike that. I want to try to go before the huge flying, pouncing eidolon even if it's master focused on initiative :)

The man has a point. It'll make things a little more complicated, but it may be for the best if we observed that rule.

Actually, as far as I know, there aren't special rules about initiatives for companions unless the player is riding them. An animal companion, eidolon, etc. should roll its own initiative (I'm sorry if that didn't happen and I missed it in the big fight, I wasn't particularly on top of it).

Scarab Sages

No worries. I doubt it would have mattered much.

I actually am more inclined to say it keeps things a lot simpler if companions share their masters' initiatives, but yeah, to the best of my knowledge, there's nothing to suggest they're really supposed to do so.

The only exception are Familiars IIRC.

Any idea where that's mentioned? I can see it making sense (though like I said, I consider having all companions act on their masters' turn to probably be simpler), I'm curious where it might be mentioned in the rules though.

Oh wait that was 3.5... Though I think PFRPG might have a clause where if they start on the Caster's Person then they act with their Master...

I at least checked through the wizard's familiar section (well, more specifically, I did a search for initiative and saw nothing). I'm not sure they've got any special rules about how they handle initiative either.

I had it in my mind that they shared initiatives, but upon review, I can only find a reference to that for mounts.

I'm not sure what impact it would have happened in thta last team fight, but it might have had one... not so much in terms of what my actions would have been, but in terms of where they would have fallen in the intiative order.

Given all this, I think it makes sense to run it by RAW... meaning roll separate initiatives for the pc and their companion/familiar/eidelon.

Also, do we have new fights yet, jehova? :D

Scarab Sages

I'm positively bouncing in anticipation (on the inside).

Hm.. I think most of the time (in 1v1) you will still be able to post both your actions in one post, they might just not happen in the same round.

Btw: Do you prefer RPG names or is Kirk o.k.? He's almost done now, only 180 GP more to spend (1k from WbL right?).

@ Jehova: I did create him via PDF, is there a way to send it to you?

Scarab Sages

Yes, WBL is 1k

Edit: as to names, I've been making mine up on the fly, so I don't think it matters much.

Agreed. I'm primarily thinking round counters. Such as:

Character goes first.
Enemy goes.
Companion goes.

Suppose that was the surprise round. The player can now post both together, like you said, but they're actually operating on different rounds and initiative counts (for example, the companion is still in the surprise round, with one action, the character is in normal rounds and has the full range of them). Seems like it would make it a bit weird, but I could be wrong.

As for names, yeah, I don't think there's any restriction.

On-Names: Amarkys is a real Roman name... My Fighter(Viking) is going to be named Hilda. Yes it is exactly how you imagine.

Just wanted to hit the flavor of the arena.

Space Cowboy Kirk and his Miniature Giant Space Scorpion Uhura should be ready for battle then! I used a form filling PDF (got no herolab), is that an acceptable format?

Scarab Sages

Where did you find that form? I've been looking for a good one with little success.

PathfinderDB.com has some nice ones.

Yes, I took the best rated one from pathfinderDB.com (modified Neceros' sheet). It still has some bugs, dunno if they are foxit reader related though.

[edit]Oh wait, I did overlook Abellius' Form Fillable Character Sheet (on top of page 2 under form fillable character sheets). Seems to be the way to go :)

Updated Rolg's gear reflecting his winnings. Not much to do, but added a few more combat options where I could (gotta love that dwarven "slow and steady" thing). :D

So we ready to pull the trigger on some more fights?

Scarab Sages

I'm afraid to update Bruno's gear between levels because I don't want to have to re-work it if he looses. :P

Lol. I'm okay running that risk.

Crap, I accidentally closed out of the full message I was writing, which included the randomization, but all I guess you guys really need to know is that FIGHTS.

Rolg vs. Bruno (Level 2 this time!)

and

Kailin vs. Kirk (with respective pets)

Anyone who's not currently in one of these fights should let me know and I'll get you in soon-like.

@Spock, google docs is the easiest, but PM me if you simply need to mail something. I think the biggest thing Im going to change for Arena 1.0 is the way I'm getting and keeping track of characters, right now there's way too much of me running around through links and PMs.

Boom! FIGHITNG!

Dwarf fight, even!

Scarab Sages

Rock on!
Maybe Bruno will win this time!

At least in terms of Google Docs (since that's what I'm using most frequently), would it help to post a link to the Document under the relevant alias/character? Would assume that our opponents don't sneak a peek at it, but we're sorta doing that with spoilers in the threads anyway.

Anywho, fight fight fight fight...! *chants as he goes off to relevant battle*

in regards to the Arena, what are the light conditions, temperature that sort of thing anything that might be useful

Light levels are normal. I'm not aware of any temperature or environmental conditions so those are probably normal as well.

This is the arena map (you can find it on the campaign info tab). Combatants start at A10 and L10, with companions, if any, next to them in some way. Black Squares are pillars which rise from the floor to the ceiling, which is 25 feet high, and dirt/sand goes 25 feet down as well, if I recall correctly.

Hope that helps :P
