Indeed I get +30 with the Invi potion, so I just can't fail, or can I? Stealth: 1d20 + 10 + 20 ⇒ (12) + 10 + 20 = 42

Argan coordinates his action with the others and also cuts the throat of an unfortunate soldier, stepping aside to hit another one right after it and doing the same.

Thinking about it, I'm not sure I can coup de grace in the surprise round (since it's a full round), but it makes all the sense to do it, so...

Is it the rangers turn?


Argan dispatches two men back to back with two quick thrusts of his blades. Eryan leaves a pair of bruises on a ranger who seems hurt but still alive and well. Kharn charges and smashes another one to the ground is a brutal display, then just for good measure he plants his weapon in the body again (crit damage completely un-needed for a 1 shot lol).

"Back to the fort!" Cries one of the rangers. Of the six that remain standing, four of them make a mad dash for the horses. The one that Eryan is beating on swings back, but misses badly. Another pulls out an arrow and a piece of flint, then lights a rag wrapped around the arrowhead and stands, notching the arrow.

Vlad and Kharn both get to take an AoO as the soldiers pass them. I'm assuming you'll one-shot them, so unless you roll under a 17 to hit you probably killed your target. Regardless, two of the rangers made it past and are currently 50 feet away on their horses (mounted quickly with a DC 20 ride check).

Cowards! We're messing up with a lot of things recently, right?

Although it is important to follow the fleeing rangers, the arrow is certainly a signal, and thus Argan moves to the man holding the bow and attacks him, trying to kill it before the situation gets worse.

There were 4 left after the ambush and AoO's.. 1 was cut down by Argan, the other lit an arrow and prepared to do something with it.. Stop him plz Eryan.. Two were fleeing of which 1 was speared by my mega bolt, the other was charged and cut by Kharn.. So take take of the burning arrow guy plz Eryan.. If you can..

Kharn cuts down one ranger as he passes, then runs up and puts another down off his horse. Vlad also hits on in passing, then hits the other one on the horse in the back, making him pass out and fall off his horse. Argan charges the one with the flaming arrow, sticking a sabre into the man's flesh and making him gasp...but with blood trickling from his lips he releases the arrow into the sky. He gives a small, sad smile, passing out from the effort.

Damn shame, got him right at 0 hp. Yeah it's funny, their first thing to do when attacked is notify the castle.

Combat over, all of the men are dead or dying. With some heal checks you can find 3 of them haven't quite bled out yet.

So the flame arrow was a signal they were being attacked? We traveled a full day right? Seems it would take much more fire than a flaming arrow to be seen from that far away..

"Gather what can be taken quickly.. If that arrow was a signal we need to be on the move fast!" Running up to the captain he'll gather all his gear qucikly and put it on his horse.. He'll strip the man down to make sure he's not hiding anything on his person before leaving..

Just to make sure, are all of them dead including the sentinels?

Argan looks up, trying to see the arrow. "We're pretty lousy anyway. I don't think it will matter much."

Then Kharn kills that ranger with his greatsword.

"So do we leave now, or do we leave a message? I was thinking something along the lines of 'You have failed Mitra prepare to be punished', or something like that?"

The party stabilizes one of the three man and wake him up after a couple of minutes to do some questioning. I'll buy some smelling salts later.

The last ranger wakes up, eyes wide and casting about wildly. His eyes narrow at Argan. "You're no brother of mine. Mitra will make you suffer for this."

Argan makes a bored face. "That again! Good lord," - he looks at the sky - "how blind can they be? So I guess you don't want the deal, right? One way or another you will spit what we want to know. Up to the suffering, then?"

Vlad walks over to the ranger and lifts him off the ground by his throat.. Baring his fangs he twists the boys head till he see's the one he fed on.. "Do you see what I did to the boy there? In mere hours he will rise as my vampiric thrall ready to serve for all time.. His first order will be to slaughter his family and loved ones so no one will come looking for him! Is this the fate you want as well? Now answer my associates questions or by tomorrow night you will be feasting on yor loved ones!!"

The man struggles for breath as Vlad cuts off his air, kicking and grabbing at the pale hands. His eyes grow wide in fear and he begins nodding his head, speech impossible at the moment with his air supply cut off but clearly trying to say he's compliant now.

"Thanks" - Argan replies to the wanna-be-vampire, telling obvious lies that the guy did not understand - "Now now, what did you discover and tell Havelyn on the lookout you all did last week?"

Summarizing my questions to speed it up
"Do you really expect someone from the castle to see that arrow? Or is your party being followed?"
Argan will, of course, scan the man to guarantee he is not lying.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21


"No-nothing happened on the last ranging. Reported some animal movements for hunting, th-that's it." He looks over at the dead man who shot the arrow. "So he did get the arrow off..." He grows quiet, eyes unfocused.

Argan:
The wheels in his head are spinning, he's obviously trying to learn more about the situation. He was knocked unconscious before the fight was finished and is trying to piece things together.

Argan motions for the others to remain still, and he closes his eyes to focus on the sounds. If there were more horses coming their way he would certainly hear it at this dead time in the night.

If he doesn't hear anything out of the ordinary he will ask the others, just to make sure. "I don't hear anything, do you?"

If there are horses or other weird sounds nearby:
Argan brings his Sawtooth Sabre down on the man's throat, and warns the others to hide.


Do you guys just want to let Argan run the interrogation? If so I won't wait for posts from the rest of you.

Argan casts about, but doesn't see or hear anything out of the ordinary.
