What reason would such have to attack us? We have done nothing apparent to inspire their ire... But the calm words of the rationalist, the peacemaker, began to dissipate, flowing into the rest of the stream at the back of her mind...and the battlemaster, the crystal veil, took over, sharpening her focus. Readying her long spear, she called out a few lilting words in a sharp chant; around her, a blue light began to form into strings of Vudrani text, encircling her and suddenly expanding to form a ring around the battlefield.

Cast bless. +1 to attacks and saves v. fear.

As the orc charged forward in his direction, Zaken lifted his spear and hit it in its shoulder. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to keep it at bay. "Crap!"

Action 2 - Zaken, Round 2

Now, for Zaken's next action, it depends if the orc is down or not at the end of the turn... I'll post as if he is... if not, I'll post a retcon later if that is ok...

Worried about the ratfolk sending bolts towards them, Zaken charged forward towards it. "LEEK, help Malka!"

Seven roared in anger as the little rat thing shot an arrow at the the Jeyne. "The Jeyne is a friend!" he screamed, stepping forward with his sword. Sure, she was all funny colors and her voice was weird and her voice sounded like one of Zaken's toys and she kept trying to tickle him even though she knew he didn't like it. But she was still a friend.

We have to be nice to our friends. Malka's constant reminder played over in his head. He figured being nice meant keeping little rat things with arrows away.

He was just about to run and kick it in the head when he heard Malka make a bad noise. A noise that meant hurt. His head snapped around to find one of the bigger ones with a big, jagged piece of metal. All thinking fled his mind. Even the voice got real quiet (he couldn't remember that happening before). Or maybe that was because his own screams drowned it out. Whatever the reason, his feet changed direction. In an instant he was beside her, sword swinging. He was careful not to let it near her. Too careful, for the bad thing dodged him easily. He spit and snarled, desperate to draw its attention away from Malka.

Malka made a noise that sounded somewhere between a gasp and a yelp as the corroded pipe cut into her. She reflexively called on her supernatural ability to harden her skin and made it like iron. Before she could contemplate what to do next, Seven was beside her. She took the opportunity to fall back out of reach of both orc and Seven so that she could provide ranged support.

Seven's vision exploded into fiery curtains of red, white, and black as the big shovel knocked him on the head. He saw stars, but not the kind he liked, as the room swayed this way and that. A ragged pain shot through his head and he clenched his teeth, tasting blood. But through the swirling colors he heard the orc laugh and he lashed out toward the sound, his blade slicing into something meaty. Warm blood splashed his face. The sensation was oddly familiar, and sort of comforting.

Malka's eyes narrowed as the ratmen ganged up on Seven. In order to even the odds the wizard cast her spell to attempt to blind them. As soon as she finished her incantation, a cloud of glittering dust formed between the two ratmen and completely coated them. The particles got into every nook and cranny and threatened to blind the ratmen.

Seven was in serious danger - but he seemed to have a fair amount of help as well. Zaken's robot was facing off against the orc with Seven, and Malka's spell was likely to incapacitate the shooters to the south. So Jeyne decided to assist Zaken with eliminating the northernmost of the shooters; charging forward, she stabbed out with her long spear, trying to get past the ratman's defenses, and was rewarded with a heavy thunk as spearpoint met ratling.

Those that tried to ambush them were all dead. Everything about this seemed odd to Malka. Where did the orcs and ratmen come from? Why were they down here? These were definitely questions that Malka wanted to find answers for but first things first, she needed to bandage both Seven's wounds as well as her own. Digging out her first aid kit, she started with her arm while Seven came back to his senses. Apparently she had gotten used to his episodes and she wasn't sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing.

Malka cleaned her cut with antiseptic considering the pipe had been corroded and dirty. She winced as the strong alcohol purified the exposed flesh. She then wrapped a clean bandage around it.

When she had finished, she dug out a few of the cure potions she had purchased in town. "I am glad I had gotten these back in Torch." She handed one to Jeyne and one to Seven. "These will knit most of your skin back together. Let me know if any of you need additional bandaging."

Thinking that Seven will need a CMW and a CLW for Jeyne. If Zaken needs a CLW then that works too. She may need to take a CLW potion herself.

Once everyone was more or less hale enough to continue, Malka turned her attention to what they had found on those who attacked them. There were more of these brown access cards, similar to those they had found on the dead orcs back in the manufacturing room. "It is interesting that each one of the orcs seems to have these brown access cards. I wonder if that is significant for any reason."

Seven has at least one hemochem (fast healing 1 for 1min [10hp]). Maybe he should use that in lieu of a spell or wand charge.

The color slowly returned to Seven's vision. At least, he saw more than gray and red. He noticed Malka tending to him, and fell back into a sitting position on the floor, blood and sweat dripping off his forehead. He remembered the hemochem. He had been dreading this moment. He withdraw the long needle and handed it to Malka wordlessly. He turned his head and closed his eyes, waiting for the sting. He hated needles. Still, it was better than the Jeyne's tickles. Tag Malka.

At Malka's suggestion, he nodded and climbed to his feet. He gripped his weapon, bracing for another fight.

Female Human Wizard (metal elementalist)/2

As Malka handed over the potion to Seven, he wordlessly passed her the hemochem instead. Putting the potion back into her bag, she prepped the medlance for the injection. She squeezed his hand and said, "Take a breath in and you will feel a small pinch." As Seven breathed in, Malka stuck him with the needle and injected him with the hemochem.

I can speed up my own nanites for a few moments to speed my recovery adequately, and I can perform a nanite transfer to help others recover as well. Whew - sorry for the barrage of posts! My brain's all over the place today, and I found it easier to respond in small bites than try to compose it in a longer post.

On that note, sorry for my slower-than-usual posting lately. There have been some changes for me at work recently - nothing bad, but all meaning that I now have far more people requiring my attention and in my space, and work is when I usually post. Hopefully it'll calm down over the next little while; until then, I apologize. I am still definitely into playing, but I understand if I need to step aside for a more frequent poster.

Not a problem. Smaller posts are actually easier for me to compile into the turn recaps.

Not a problem either. As long as I am kept informed, I understand that we all have real life to deal with. It's when I don't hear from people that bothers me. Ok, so which one?

There's a single door immediately north of these double doors (which you can't really see in this last turn recap because I butchered the pic) and then there's the double doors further to the north.

Both are unlocked.

Action 1

It struck Seven as funny that there were so many rat-things down here, but he knew rats could get in just about anywhere. These thoughts were fleeting, for the voice soon spurred him into a whirling frenzy as he hacked, chopped, and slashed his way from one red thing to the next, always trying to keep himself between them and Malka.

They fought back, of course, with their sharp little arrows, teeth, and claws, and the bigger ones with their own weapons (those shovels really hurt). But one by one, they fell as LEEK and Seven beat them into submission.

Action 2
Seven had an idea. He stripped one of the rat men of its gear--Zaken made sure of that, because it might be useful. Somehow. Then he carried its naked ratbody back to the room with the bright lights. He tossed the carcass into the room, anxious to see what would happen.

Female Human Wizard (metal elementalist)/2

Malka had been surprised to see more orcs and ratfolk just lounging here. Were they living down here? Were they waiting for someone or something? More questions that needed to be answered but now was not the time. Remembering what happened last time, Malka cast one of her new spells that counter-attacked anyone who tried to hit her. Casting defensive shock
There must have been something about her that attracted attacks from orcs. One of them came at Malka and was rewarded twofold when his strike grazed her arm - once with an electric shock from her spell and once with Seven's sword. Since Seven put himself between Malka and those threatening her, she was able to get in a few shots with her crossbow before LEEK and Seven finished the rest off.

The orcs and ratmen had done enough damage to their group that Malka spent some time bandaging up wounds afterwards. All in all, they had definitely fared better of the two. They were alive after all.

When Seven carried off one of the ratfolk, Malka followed to see what he planned to do.

I'm so wanting to see what happens when he tosses the body into the electrified hallway/room. At least that's where I think he's going :)

When all was said and done, Malka contemplated the many doors they had to choose from. "I do not have Zaken's divination abilities but I would vote for the southwest door since that may lead to the other side of the electrified hallway."

Malka will suggest the south door off of room D5 for where to go next.

Female Android Seeker oracle 1/Speaker for the past shaman 1

Jeyne wiped a stray speck of blood from her cheek, the dark spot now just a slight stain on her synthetic skin. The orcs had put up quite a fight, as had the remaining ratfolk - but the orcs in their haste had nearly tripped over each other to charge at LEEK and Seven, leaving them vulnerable. Seven's sword and LEEK's slams had been accompanied by droplets of liquid fire, as Jeyne took advantage of their close gathering to lob one of her crystal vials. Using an alchemist's fire.

With the melee settling into calm, she began to examine the fallen, seeing if perhaps one of the creatures had managed to survive after falling to the onslaught. At this point, information was what was sorely lacking - and these creatures seemed very comfortable with the buried vessel. There would be no better source of information.

If there's one that's unconscious but not dead, I'll stabilize them, bind them, then cast a cure spell to bring them back to consciousness.

Action 1

The fight was brutal but in the end Zaken thought it could have gone worse, specially after that ridiculous strike the orc manage to hit on LEEK that almost removed his head! Luckily only a couple cables disconnected and Zaken was able to properly fix LEEK in no time. using a spell slot to cast rejuvenate eidolon.

When all was said and done, Malka contemplated the many doors they had to choose from. "I do not have Zaken's divination abilities but I would vote for the southwest door since that may lead to the other side of the electrified hallway."

"Oh, come on... I think you are saying this just to get into my nerves..." He pointed to the northwest door. "Why can't we take a look in that room, leaving nothing behind us? As I thought before, this place seems pretty symmetrical and I agree that this door you are pointing to seems the probable way for us to follow but I really don't like to leave a place behind, specially if we have already encountered orcs and ratfolk twice! There could be more inside this room and I'd rather fight them right now than risk them to sneak behind us..."

Ok, I'll move this along later today but I wanted to post the following...

IC:
As Seven showed the dead ratman into the hallway, the metal nodes on each side lit up and electrical arcs jumped across and through the humanoid.

The body sizzled and convulsed for a few seconds as the energy dissipated. The remains was a black, charred mass in the entrance. The stink of burnt flesh was almost overpowering in the enclosed space.

Feel free to react. BTW, I'm giving you a +2 on your disable device checks given your 'trail'.

There was still some discussion regarding which door. You know me, you either come to a decision or I roll for it. PBP is not a good medium to discuss which door to pick. :)

Action 1

With his tools in his hands, Zaken moved towards the locker and started to work.

Disable Device, guidance: 1d20 + 12 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 12 + 1 = 29 sooo close

When he was almost finishing, he heard a 'click' and all his effort was in vain. "Ah damn it! I almost got it... I could try again but it would take a while... better to go back later I guess."

Action 2

Seeing how fast they explored the other rooms, Zaken was quite pleased. "See, now we know for sure that nothing is coming behind us... well, we can never be sure but I think you got what I mean..."

Moving inside the new room, Zaken honestly did not know where to look first... the blinking lights, the statue, the machine besides the stairs, the door to the east, the lighting discharges to the west... He moved towards the statue first for it was the most bizarre.

Knowledge (religion), guidance: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 2 + 1 = 11

"Hum, looks like we have some sort of religion stuff here... not sure what, perhaps an altar?"

Leaving the statue behind, he moved towards and lower part of the room, inspecting the machine besides the stairs and once more the lighting corridor, looking for a way to disable it.

Knowledge (engineering) - Zaken, guidance: 1d20 + 11 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 11 + 1 = 31 for the machine
Perception - LEEK, guidance: 1d20 + 14 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 14 + 1 = 22 for where to disable the trap

"This trap doesn't make much sense in my opinion... why to trap a corridor and then lock it? And it wasn't even hidden! And we have easier and safer ways to get into this chamber thanks to the side corridors... I think there is more behind this thing... I think it is not a trap at all! Malka?"

Action 1
Seven frowned as the lights cooked the ratman. He had a feeling that would happen, and it was good to know of the danger, even if the smell was bad.

The rooms were full of junk. Nothing looked particularly interesting to Seven, though he bet Garritt would have been real excited to see so much trash.

Action 2
The doors, though, those looked interesting. They looked important. They looked dangerous. He walked over and placed his hands on the black metal, half expecting to be cooked like the ratman.
