Would it be another heal check to determine if anything we found can help him or is it just a restoration spell that can help him?

It's some sort of disease. While lesser restoration will restore some INT damage, the disease needs to be dealt with.

The nanite hypogun can be used to remove disease.

Female Human Wizard (metal elementalist)/2

On further inspection of Khonnir's body, Malka didn't like the looks of the red lines streaking outwards from his veins. "It looks like Counsilman Baine may be suffering from some sort of sickness that may be affecting his ability to think." When Zaken pointed out the nanite hypogun, Malka quickly checked the color. "I am fairly sure that this hypogun may contain what is required to remove Councilman Bain's disease. Administering it appears to be our best course of action."

At Seven's comment, Jeyne looks up. No, Seven - it is not a gun, or at least not one meant to harm. It is used to inject nanites that have restorative effects; my own system functions using the same nanites. Tag Seven.

Her gaze shifts to Malka. It may be able to remove the disease and prevent further damage, but will it be adequate to restore the damage to his mental faculties that has already occurred? Regardless, we should administer it with all haste, before his mind further degrades. As far as returning him, I was able to obtain one canister of air in town, with a strap on the mouthpiece; perhaps it will be adequate to allow him to be towed without harm. Tag everyone.

"Nanites..." Seven repeated slowly. "So Counsel Mintbane'll be like... Like you?"

Seven wasn't sure about this. Sure, the Jeyne was real nice and all, but what would Val think if they brought him back with orange and purple hair?

male

Oops, mistake by the GM...

The brown nanite hypogun works as a 'remove sickness' and you need a 'remove disease' to cure Khonnir.

You could roleplay that if you want. I'll give you all an extra nanite canister (10 charges) so you don't waste it. A 'remove sickness' uses up 5 charges.

A lesser restoration would restore some INT to Khonnir but I don't think we have any. Remember that one of the council members is a cleric of Bigh and a good friend of Khonnir.

I also want that loot claimed since it's taking up too much room on my loot list. :)

Please let me know what you want to do...

“Damn, they’ve really done a number on him.” Camrad said once Knonnir was out of his prison. The vacant stare on his face worried him and he snapped his fingers a couple times in a an attempt to get his attention, but to no avail. This dont look good, not one bit.

Malka wrote:
"Maybe he is suffering from shock. If we can heal his wounds and minimize his physical discomfort, he may be able to focus his thoughts. We should get him a blanket."

Camrad nodded, stepping back and unclasping his cloak. “Here, he can have my cloak. He needs it a lot more than me.”

“You wanna do what?” Camrad blurted incredulously. “After what he's been through, do ‘ya really think your serums aren't jus’ gonna make things worse. What he needs is proper medicine.” he said, pacing the room as he tried to formulate a plan. “Maybe we can find some healers in Torch. Some of us can stay behind to guard this room while everyone else heads back to town for help.”

Malka will take the stun gun. She'd also take the anesthetic if no one else wants it. Seven should probably take the hemochem since he is usually in need of healing. Some of the other things that no one can use could probably be sold.

Confused individuals can find a familiar presence comforting, and he seemed close to recognizing me at first; if he has a moment of lucidity, my presence may help to extend it."

Or so her past told her, anyway. And her holy symbols did serve as a focus for her, help her to center her thoughts when the jumble of voices in her mind grew too chaotic. Perhaps it is wishful thinking. A very human trait, she thought to herself, Val's mischievous smirk crossing her mind's eye.

Wow. I'm stumped. If he really can't hold his breath we may very well drown him trying to haul him back through the water.

Seven looked long and hard at Counsel Mintbane. He felt sorry for the man, to be trapped inside a box. He didn't like this one bit. He sighed. "I can stay, too. If...you think it's a good idea, Malka?"

Seven looked at the syringe offered to him like it was a disgusting bug. And not the tasty kind, either.

Malka's headache was still distracting but she knew that they needed to figure this out. "We could always take Khonnir as far as the water and then send a few of us into Torch to find Councilman Kyte who I believe is also a cleric of Brigh. If memory serves and he is both part of the council and a cleric, I believe he would want to help Councilman Baine. Even with the air cannister, I think it would be too risky to take Councilman Baine through the water."

Female Human Wizard (metal elementalist)/2

Malka would be willing to show Seven how to administer the hemochem the first time. If he's shown how, I think he could use it himself the next time.

"If you say so..." Seven took the syringe with its long, wicked needle from Malka and held it out. He sure didn't miss these things. They were sharp and they hurt, plus they usually went along with tests. He knew the needle could go in a few places--an arm, a leg. From the looks of this one, it would work on a horse.

(He missed the horses. He wondered if they missed him, too.)

"Where should I stick myself?" He asked with a child-like sigh.

Female Android Seeker oracle 1/Speaker for the past shaman 1

I'm good with either plan - bringing him back with us using the air canister or keeping him here (in the caves somewhere) while some go for help. It might be best to keep him somewhere in the ship rather than take him to the beach - if he and his were the ones who beat on the skulks, they might try to take advantage of his infirmity.

Malka had placed one of the doses of hemochem into the medlance and made sure that Seven saw how she did it. Seeing his reaction she said, "It is not that bad." She found herself grinning at his dramatics in spite of her aching head. "I thought you were big and tough." But then she turned serious remembering everything he had gone through back at Silver Mount and she added, "This will help you heal. It is not meant to cause you pain." She touched a place on his thigh and said, "That place should work."

I claimed the black e-pick already, I think, but if not I'll go ahead and grab it. I'll keep the grippers as well, and carry the batteries (although they're free for anyone to use, clearly). And for practicality as well as RP reasons, I'll take as many of those goo tubes as people are willing to let me have, and keep stashed at home what I can't carry with me. :)

With my totaling, I'm seeing 1215 total in items and 4 GP 5 SP in cash, before reward money/selling stuff and before taking into account the goo tubes, since I didn't know how many others might want to claim. There just wasn't a ton for me, which is fine. I can take the hypogun if everyone's cool with it, since I am the sort-of healer.

Action 1
Seven hacked and spit out the bad water as they emerged back onto the shore of the pond, Counsel Mintbane in tow. He breathed in real deep, remembering a similar time he was glad to see the sky. Then he instinctively turned to see whether the purple fire had come back. It hadn't. He watched as Val got real happy and then real sad to see Counsel Mintbane. He helped Malka out of the water, then sat quietly as they all prepared to go see the Dolga lady.

____

"She said WHAT?!" Tolgy snorted as Seven gave him the Dolga lady's response to that question. They were seated at Tolgy's campsite, next to his big closet.

"She said you don't got enough horse for the rodeo," Seven repeated, nodding. "Which...is wrong, 'cause there's lots of horses at Ivren's."

Tolgy's mad cackling following this left Seven a bit confused, but he was used to that. "Heehee...Ahahaha!" Tolgy was lying on his side, clutching his stomach as he laughed. He sat up, wheezing and wiping tears from his oil-smeared face. "Ha! By Brigh's hammer, 'tis good to see yeh, Seven! Now tell me what you seen 'neath them hills." He crawled to his feet and prepared to serve them his signature, caustic coffee as Seven got to re-live their adventures underground.

Seven told him all about the jinkins and automoms, and all the other bad things they saw. Seven gestured real big to show how massive the spinning blades were, spinning around in circles and almost crashing into the fire and kettle. He told him about the blood, and the food-tubes, and the big needle that Malka had given him. And there was the too-many-armed thing with the sharp knives and the fancy cape (which he secretly liked but pretended to hate so no one would make him wear even more clothes). And of course, there was Tolgy's steel. The best sword in the world. Seven told him how it saved everyone from the bad things, over and over, and that Tolgy was the best sword-maker in Torch. The dwarf hooted and hollered whenever Seven described a strong blow.

He drank the coffee Tolgy offered. Malka didn't like him drinking the stuff, said it made him too excitable, but if she didn't ask, he wouldn't tell. He smiled into his cup.

Tolgy seemed real glad to hear all of this and also real curious about the underground place. His face looked real serious, almost afraid, when he asked, "So, are yeh goin' back?"

@Fabian: When we discussed the trade of Zaken's summon monster class feature for extra spell slots, we forgot to mention the progression of this ability... Can I assume that every time he would get a new level of his former summon monster class feature he gets +1/+2 spell slots instead?

@Jeyne: I'm also intending to take these feats (or at least the technological ones) and even take the Technomancer PrC in the future. Since Zaken needs almost no feats to properly function, could you let me have them instead?

So remind me what the deal was...

You would forego your summon monster abilities (only usable when the eidolon was not present) for some extra spell slots (usable anytime).

And it looks like I gave you 3 extra spell slots, right?

I realize the summon monster ability gets more powerful as you level up but it doesn't get more frequent.

How about if you can 3 extra spells of whatever level you can cast?

So it's kind of bummer for 3rd level because it would allow you only 3 extra 1st level spells but it kicks up at 4th level since it would allow you to cast 3 extra 2nd level spells (or 1st level, your choice).

Fair?

If so, write that on your PC sheet so we don't forget.

I'd like to claim the radiation detector and the timeworn hypogun (if Jeyne is ok with it). I'm saying this because Zakek took the Scavenger's Luck feat and is more prepared to deal with the glitches that could occur with timeworn technology.

Zaken is sitting at 3088 gp, 5 sp and 6 cp with an additional 4 sp and 4 cp in his pouch... Even so, 2000 of it comes from the 4 grenades in his possession.

BTW, I have no issues with Jeyne and/or Zaken taking technological feats.

Zaken is already 'competing' with Malka to see who's the smartest one so why not have him compete with Jeyne to see who is the more mechanically inclined?

And I almost forgot that he's also competing for Val's love (at least in his mind) with Camrad.

It looks like Zaken has some insecurity issues. :)

Please write the cost of each item (next to the item) and I'm only interested in 'big ticket' items (magical, technological, MW quality, etc) I don't need to know how much your rations are. :)

I know this is 'changing' since a potion is counted but you lose the 'wealth' after you drink it. However, it still is a good place to start and it will even things. I'll 'adjust' every time we go up levels.

Action 1

Zaken noticed how Val was excited for seeing her father again and thought it would be better to let them alone... any possible 'reward' he could receive from his girlfriend could wait. He decided to say hi to his mom, reassuring he was indeed alive, hearing her curses for almost fifteen minutes and then taking a bath, a matter that his mom fully supported.

After the bath, he took some time to relax a bit before facing the council. Grabbing his tools, he started to fix LEEK. He was inspired and was also able to 'finally understand' two new deactivated features that he quickly fixed. "Oh, this is so awesome!" Zaken exclaimed as LEEK used a couple of pistons in his arm to hit and smash a boulder in his backyard.

His belly protested for the lack of food and he soon remembered about the meeting with the council. He left his home in a rush, grabbing his mom's sub. He only heard her yells when he was already reaching the Foundry.

"Good night, Mrs. Dolga and Mr. Joram! I suppose you are eager to know what we found..." Zaken then described all their discoveries and actions, not in a straight line of thought that the councilmen would for sure approve but instead going back constantly as he remembered some new information.

Action 2

Zaken welcomed Val in his arms before talking to her. "He will get better, Val, I'm sure about it... He'll just need some time. I'll take a look in mom's shop for anything that could be useful to help Mr. Baine."

I imagine the town cleric doesn't have high enough level to cast remove disease... so we could try to find a potion of it or, in the worst case, buy an antiplague and attempt a couple of heal checks to bring him back in shape!

Later, when he got some time, he tried once more to identify the "strange tube" they found.

Action 1:

Malka gladly took Seven's offered hand as he helped her out of the water. Having to hold her breath for the swim had caused the pounding in her head to intensify briefly. She followed the others back to the Foundry and sat quietly as the others debriefed the councilors. They had done what they could and she hoped that the others would be able to help Khonnir. Malka couldn't begin to imagine the detriment to Torch if Khonnir wasn't able to continue his work.

The dull ache in her head remained and finally Malka had to excuse herself. "My apologies to everyone but I am still experiencing the head ache that I work up with this morning. I am hoping that proper rest in a proper bed will be sufficient to heal me. I shall say good night."

I'm assuming that Val is still letting us stay at the Foundry? Fabian, does Malka wake up with the headache or is she right as rain? How she feels the next morning will affect my Action 2.

You could melt snow with that smile. Camrad thought when Val was reunited with her father. The sight warmed his heart, though it didn't distract him quite enough to make him forget his more pressing concerns. We got what we came for, but….not what I was looking for. he intoned, wondering if he could bring himself to ask these people for aid in his own quest, especially when they didn't have any personal investment. But could he really survive in those ruins by himself? After experiencing it's horrors first hand, he wasn't so sure.

Yes, I know I checked for Malka twice. :)

No one has headaches this morning.

Action 2:

Malka was feeling much better the next morning. Her head no longer hurt and she was ready to take a look at the coupling that they had taken. Searching out Jeyne, Malka asked, "Is it possible to see the coupling? You placed it in your bag and I would like to see if I can repair it using Khonnir's lab."

Does Malka need to make any kind of roll for this?

Later when they all get together
Malka wasn't sure what everyone else's plan was now that they had found Khonnir but she felt like she needed to go back and explore more. Not only that, the purple flame hadn't returned to Torch and maybe the reason was still yet to be determined. "I plan to return to where we were exploring. There is still a lot of information buried below that needs to be learned. I welcome any who would like to come with me but I understand if you would rather not."

Action 1

"He is not well," Jeyne explained without preamble when she saw Val standing on the dock. "It is some sort of illness - we do not know what sort yet, but it has damaged his mental faculties. He will recover, though, and the clerics intend to see to him." She stood off to the side as Val hugged and kissed the bewildered-looking man; no matter how much Val insisted she was family, she found such displays of affection bewildering. Better to let them have their moment.

When the band returned to the Foundry, Jeyne excused herself quietly and went to her upstairs room, replacing everything in its customary spot. The backpack went on a hook on the far wall...the spear stood bolt-upright next to it, polished carefully to avoid any corrosion...the blanket was spread back over her hard pallet, stretched taut...for a moment, though, she's uncertain what to do with the goo tubes. Storing them in the backpack was untidy, and what if she needed it again? Finally, she discovered a more efficient way to resettle her clothes in her small dresser, leaving a drawer open to pack the colorful tubes in. There. Everything in place.

Just then, she heard Zaken's greeting to the council and went downstairs to join in the conversation, letting him take the lead, but occasionally interjecting with some details his more impassioned and untidy explanations had missed. ...but we have not discovered yet what had taken Councilman Baine; we know only that it was not of our kind, according to the fungus that saw them pass, she finally finished, once she had ensured nothing had been left out.

Action 2

Zaken is correct, Jeyne responded - much more impassively than the exuberant man, and without the embrace. The disease will diminish with time - or, as he has said, some sort of magical aid may be employed. It was times like these that Jeyne began almost to wish she could join in Val's anguish, if only to lessen her burden by sharing it...it is like wishing for a fish to grow wings, or a lich to feel his heart beat. Impossible, and illogical. No matter how she tried...she would never understand. Though Khonnir was father to both of them, the two could not be more different.

Malka's question was a welcome interruption; she led the human woman up to her room, where she had set the ruined coupling on a high shelf nailed to the wall, one of the only accoutrements the tiny room had. "Here," she interjected, setting the coupling in Malka's hands. "Hopefully the forges here will be hot enough to work the skymetal - I shall accompany you, to see if I can prove useful." Just then, though, an idea struck her - a flash of an image from long ago, of magic runes of light flowing over a broken pot and the cracks magically sealing. What was the prayer they used at the church of Brigh?

"What was once whole, be whole again..." Jeyne intoned in a surprisingly musical voice, her hands twitching in tiny, precise motions along the rough edges of the broken metal, her eyes closed and face smooth and calm in piety.

Any chance mending would work? I should have thought of it ages ago. ;)

If Khonnir had not needed immediate aid, Jeyne would never have left the underground vessel. It was strange - she felt almost at home in there, reminded of memories so distant they'd not crossed a bioelectric synapse in millennia. And the more time she spent there, the stronger all the memories between seemed to be getting as well...

"I intend to join you," she replies almost distractedly. "As you say, there is much yet to discover and understand in the vessel, and I am interested to know precisely what nature of being was responsible for the condition Khonnir is currently in. Also, though it is aged, there seems to be much that is still of use and functional; we and the rest of Torch may benefit greatly from discovering more. And the flame has not yet returned." Unless it has and I missed it. ;)

Mending the coupling does not work; it needs to some loving at the forge.

I'll set up a couple of situations later that day without yet having to return to the caves.

"I will go with you, Malka." Seven approached and stood next to her. He didn't like the underground place. He didn't know what other bad things waited down there. But he couldn't let her go alone.

He realized he would follow her anywhere.
