Do they need to hit with their primary attack for the grapple to go off?

I'd think so, that'd fit with the grab rules.

At any rate, how many hero points did we have again? I'd think something like 1 starting out, right? Then Kerin gained 1 for bringing collectors down on the group, which he just used, which should put him back at 1.

I think you correct on the sum of hero points.

Now we know what the definition of "having a bad thing happen to you".

I'm going to start plinking away with large size arrows next round. I don't know if they'll do enough damage to hurt them, but it's all I've got.

I'll use the house rules to mimic having precise shot and save my hero point to re-roll any bad rolls that might result in another "bad thing"

Once we get to level 3, you may want to pick up the Bronze Knuckle boost with skill points, bejan. Everyone and their grandmother seems to run around with DR, and Fist could use the damage boost.

Any suggestions for feats as I level? I'm planning on having Sarona be a gunslinging sort of priestess.

Good question. I don't know too much about gunslingers, other than general stuff. Firearm proficiency, gun's work best when you take a lot of penalties to hit in exchange for more damage.

That is to say, rapid reload+alchemical cadridges, point blank, rapid shot and deadly aim. It's sort of feat intensive, but we have lots of feats, so it's probably not a big deal.

And you want the spell-casting feats, obviously, but you knew that already.

As for maneuvers...

Let's see, there's the third-level steel serpent boost, 'Night's Knife', which adds your ranks in heal to weapon damage for the round.

I'd generally avoid solar wind stuff in favor of more attack-related feats, but there are gems in there. If you want to make standard action strikes because you have a reloading problem, (which you might end up with, eschewing Rapid Reload, because you're banking on getting tech weapons later) the various single attack strikes that decapacitates foes in various manners become attractive. For a low-level single shot wombo combo, Stance of Percing Rays(first level stance)+Horizon Wind Lancet(1st level boost)+Solar Flare/Solar Lance(2nd level strikes) add up to +4d6 fire damage on a single attack each round.

It's costly, clocking in at 9skill points, and some way to get at least move action reloads to sustain it, both expensive at level 3, but it's also all sorts of cool, and fits with the fire+tech theme she seems to have going.

I've been trying to decide if I want Tazwell to grow up to be an Eldritch Knight or if I want him to be a Technomancer.

When I first thought him up I was headed towards Eldritch Knight, planning on taking a level of a martial class at 2nd. Now that I've read up on Technomancers, I think that might be a better choice for the game.

With the gremlin leader down and "dying" I think the gremlins are fleeing.

Then Caimor charged in to stab, Sarona blasted the dying leader, I held action to shoot at a fleeing gremlin, etc.

However, I reserve the right to be the confused one ...

My interpretation of this post is that the leader and 1 normal gremlin are down. 1 more took full damage from the burning hands, and two made their saves.

I think they are running. 1 or 2 by mundane means, the others dimension dooring away to safety.
