Hell's Rebels or How to Overthrow A Thrune and Live to Tell the Tale

Kintargo, The Silver City

“Daddy!” a young girl cried, restlessly moving about in her bed. The sun had long disappeared over the horizon, but the world of dreams held no appeal to her. She was waiting for something else, but her patience was wearing thin.

She continued calling and calling, and before long a figure opened the door and peered into the room. “You're up pretty late..." he sighed.

“I can't sleep!” She fussed. "You promised to tell me a story!"

“Did I now?” he questioned, stepping into the room and taking a seat by her bedside. "Well, I'd hate to disappoint my favorite audience." The girl giggled and started bundling up her covers as her father stretched his neck and cleared his throat. "So... what'chu in the mood for tonight, kiddo? Drama? Romance? Adventure?"

"Tell me how you got that funny bird statue!" she requested, pointing at a silver figuring that sat close to her bedside.

The elder gave a chuckle and grabbed it to show it off. "My dear, this 'funny bird' is a lot more then he seems. This is a Silver Raven Figurine of Wondrous Power... and where it came from is quite the tale to tell."

----------------------------------------------------------------------

“It all started with the Silver City of Kintargo. It was a quaint little port that sat along the Cheliax's northern border, in the Archdutchy of Ravonuel. Now, Ravonuel was well-known in the fiendish nation for its silver, salmon, and some of the best artists, actors, and theaters in the Inner Sea. Biggest problems with the place were the giant mountain range cutting it off from the mainland... and its rebellious streak.”

”The city had always stood strong against the Thrice-Damned House of Thrune. Even when the family had done its best to quash its desires for independence, the Kintargans bore the brunt of it and kept trudging on. But it wasn't until Her Infernal Magistrix appointed her cousin Barzillai to the region's leadership that the city's spirit was truly threatened."

"Not long after he took charge, things in the Silver City took a turn for the worse. It started with the disappeance of the city's lord-mayor and a popular opera singer and ended with the destruction of a noble family, a bar popular with dissidents and troublemakers, and said opera singer's music store. This event became known as the Night of Ashes... and the protest that followed marked the beginning of the end."

Welcome one and all to my recruitment thread for Hell's Rebels, the first AP I ever had the pleasure of completing and the one that brought me into the Pathfinder fold. I had a lot of fun with this campaign as a player, so I hope I can share that fun with any who are willing and able to stick it out. As such, I am looking to share it with 4 to 6 players

General Guidelines:
- Minimum 1 post a day. Will be more lenient about this when combat breaks out, but still want things to not come to a complete standstill. We're gonna be in this for the long-haul.

-This game will be rated PG-13. As adults, I expect things to be handled in a mature, respectful, timely, and tasteful matter.

-APs, as published, are considered first drafts. As such, DM fiat will be in full swing here. Some rules will be overlooked (within reason), certain aspects will be changed. and others are optional to change due to player creativity.I can't predict everything you're going to do, so maybe you'll be able to talk your way out of a fight or two. Don't expect it to work for boss fights though.

-Bad formatting and grammar loses you points.

-Basic knowledge of playing is a requirement. Adept knowledge of the lore is good. You needn't be an expert or know everything there is to know because I don't either.

-Have fun. Seriously. If you're not having fun, I'm not doing my job as a GM. If problems are had, come to me about them. We'll work things out somehow.

Character Guidelines:
-20 point buy.

-300 Gold to start.

-No 3pp content please.

-Good/Neutral Alignments. Hearts and minds people. Cooperation and teamwork are the keys to victory in this game.

-Background Skills are a go.

-Item creation feats are allowed so long as it's not abused to all hell. That being said, depending on player actions, your future HQ can have the means to create and upgrade items.

-2 traits. One must be campaign and the other can be anything. One more can be included if a drawback is taken. The more diverse the campaign trait, the better your chances of getting in are.

-No templates, score adjustments due to age, ect.

-I am lenient enough allow optimization, but don't dip heavily or dip more than one stat if possible.

-Core races, Tieflings, Aasimars, and Tengu are allowed. Probably willing to accept nearly any race so long as it's justifiable. If you don't think you can justify it to me, then pick something else.

-Give your character some background. Nothing too detailed to leave things open for later, but enough to pique my interests. Show, don't tell.

-Due to book reasons, you will also need a reason to show up to the protest.

I will wait until 1PM CST next Saturday for applications. Plenty of time to come up with concepts and ideas for your character. Any other question With that said, I look forward to seeing your characters.

Dark Archive

Meet Felinder Zelix, aspiring crime boss who's shown up at the protest looking for either some pockets to pick or a riot to start, all decided by the flip of a coin. Backstory will be added later.

I'll put in a tentative dot while I decide if I can handle another game on my roster. My character would be Alliszah Ranaxis, a daughter of one of Kintargo's lesser noble houses who recently discovered a major secret about her past. Now, she's looking to make a big impact for good in this world while she can - because it looks like her chances to do so after her journey through the River of Souls are non-existent.

A couple of caveats:
- I ran part of the campaign for my IRL group at the end of last year. We only ended up playing through the first book before life happened, but I have read the campaign in its entirety. I'm quite adept at not letting OOC knowledge affect my roleplaying, but if you'd rather save spots for someone who hasn't experienced it at all, I completely understand.
- Alliszah was originally built as a potential GMNPC for that game, so her stat block will need anywhere from a slight to complete rework to meet your standards. There's also a chance I may change her to one of the Occult classes with your approval (probably occultist). Her story will remain the same regardless of any rebuilding that happens, and is in her profile for your enjoyment.
- She was born of the Child of Kintargo campaign trait, which is something else that won't change in any rebuilding. This trait gives a single nonmagical item worth 200 gp - what would be your thoughts on that "item" being some sort of exotic pet? Originally I'd considered a pet pseudodragon, but I understand entirely if that's reaching a bit far for the original intent of the trait. ;) Regardless of the type of pet, I know that making good use of them would require Handle Animal/Diplomacy and actions in combat. If you'd rather it be something within the more typical understanding of "item", I get that too (it'd be a masterwork silken ceremonial armor at that point).

dotting

Introducing Isabelle d'Sarini, the anarchist arcanist, who's taken up the cause because of a friend, lover, etc (another PC, even, if anyone would like to link backgrounds) who became involved.
She's still a work in progress but let me know if I'm barking up the wrong tree.

Dot. I'll probably submit a Tiefling. Warpriest and Alchemist are the two classes jumping out at me offhand.

The player knowing a few things extra won't be my concern. The character knowing more than they should is. As long as you can keep it separate, I'm willing to consider you a potential player.

In my live game of this, I was a scythe wielding Spiritualist VMC Paladin, so occult classes are cool with me.

Can't say I thought of using the trait for something like that. You at least understand there are a few hoops to go through use of him and the way you are now, you're not going to have it right out the bat. Bit of a stretch for the trait sure, but I've played with stretchier in the name of fun. He'd be a bit uncooperative if you bought and treated him like a slave, but a few sweet words and/or bribery would help change his mind.

Not about to disapprove since I was the husband of a certain Jarvis. If you do want a lover though, keep things respectful and mature enough for a PG-13 setting. Time and place for everything and all that.

Thinking of either; Warpriest, Cleric, Paladin, Ninja, Brawler, and or Monk.

I will be submitting a Warpriest in a bit, either Human or Aasimar, with the Fed-Up Citizen trait.

Oh, yeah, I definitely get that anything living will only be as cooperative as the treatment they're given. And I expect that to be one of the things that plays out in how Alliszah develops - learning that how her family dealt with others is a far cry from how they should be treated. (That realization's started some already, but she'll still definitely have some ingrained arrogance and superiority she has to train herself out of.) I was thinking of having any pets be originally from her family's menagerie, liberated upon her running away - I assume that'd give anything intelligent a slight predisposition toward liking her, but it's totally reasonable that there'd still be some resentment, too.

Heck, I'll just randomise it.

Warpriest, *Cleric
Rand1: 2d100 ⇒ (36, 43) = 79

Paladin, *Ninja
Rand2: 2d100 ⇒ (2, 36) = 38

Brawler, *Monk
Rand3: 2d100 ⇒ (29, 99) = 128

Cleric, Ninja, Monk
I could have ideas with multiclassing these classes...

Grand Lodge

I have a cool idea for a Lion Blade from Taldor coming to gather info and sew dissent

These are 1st level characters, yes?

I think I will make a noble son or daughter of Kintargo. Maybe of one of the Infernal sympathetic houses. Second son (or daughter) raised with the sole purpose of propping up his/her elder brother. Has a bit of a rebellious streak that led to mingling with the 'common folk' and people their family would consider traitors. Ended up with a lover that may or may not be connected to the Silver Ravens that has suddenly disappeared from their life.

Will likely be trained in espionage and all the dark secrets the head of the family shouldn't have to handle. So maybe a Rogue, Investigator, Inquistor or Slayer? I suppose an arcane caster could potentially fit as well. Will be taking the Noble Scion feat.

Thinking either start as a CN type and become CG over time, or just go full CG.

Description: Beorn is a strapping young man with a thick head of black hair and,(to his dismay) a still sparse mustache and beard. His
orc heritage is displayed by somewhat pointed ears and teeth and ruddy complexion. He attempts to dress well but quite often has to
be satisfied with common clothing.

Background:Beorn(he insists on adding THE DIVINE as his stage name.) Was originally from Cheliax and was an abandoned child who was fathered by an orcish mercenary on a prostitute while on leave. Cared for until he was old enough for the orphanage, he was selected as part of a 'New futures for disadvantaged
children' project by a noblewoman's group and given an education by the generosity of Lady Emeralda, who was rather notorious for her love of keeping small pigs in frocks as pets. As he grew older he discovered he has a great passion for the arts and longed to stand on the grand stages of Cheliax. However, the current troubles that have arisen have dashed his hopes for the future and made Madam Emeralda go with tea, so he has decided to lend his voice to the people's.

Introducing Addi Quillicus. After returning to "civilization" Addi found himself moving from town to town in an endless cycle: do a couple of odd jobs for a bit of coin, find a place to sleep in a home that wasn't his, and repeat for a couple of days until either he got bored, or the owners decided he had overstayed his welcome (it usually was the former). Something changed this cycle though one evening in Kintargo, and her name was Velma Sting. Her mane of red hair and her smile immediately caught Addi's eye from across the room. Since he'd seen her, Addi had unsuccessfully been trying to court her. After his most recent attempt to woo her ended with him promising to replant the flowers that he had picked from the front of a shop, Velma finally agreed to let him take her to dinner on the condition that he would show his support of some protest that she personally was a part of. And so, the following day, a clean Addi with Floyd on a recently-bought dog leash found himself amid a throng of yelling people. Addi fit right in as he waited for a glimpse of that crimson mane, repeating what the people around him chanted, often with Floyd roaring in approval.

Hey, all. Addi is my submission for this recruitment, and he has more information about him in his profile including his backstory. He was originally for a different campaign, so he is actually 2nd level, but I'll just adjust that tomorrow. Let me know if anything else isn't up to par after that. Cheers :)

Something screams vigilante to me. Tiefling noble by day, renegade freedom fighter by night.

Will you be using the rules for teams? Thinking of making a Shelynite "priest" [read: Bard] with the Natural Born Leader campaign trait but just wanted to check.

Vigilante is more complicated than I want to deal with, but that does sound like a great idea.

Would you allow unchained summoner? Always wanted to play Hell's Rebels.

I expect that the social identity will be mostly background. That's often the way vigilantes go in games that aren't all-vigilante.

How do you feel about Combat Stamina and giving that to fighters for free, as per the suggested rules?

Dotting for interest. Am considering either a Gunslinger (Mysterious Stranger) who owns an alchemist's shop (using Small Buisness out of Pathfinder Unchained). Secretly a worshiper of Milani he will multiclass into Champion of the Faith later. Has the Fed Up Citizen trait.

Second character is an astronomer with the Pattern Speaker Trait. An Oracle of Desna, she keeps her faith secret, taking odd jobs that allow her to stay within hearing distance of the Devil's Bells. She is convinced that their is a link between astronomical observations and the ringing of the Bells.

Here is the submission for Ignuspyre's warpriest of Cayden Cailean.

Five things about The PCs background
1. Zero was trained as an assassin by the order of the rack.
2. He was an unwanted child from some minor noble slumming it at the Tall Tail.
3. His mother sold him into slavery where he was picked up by the rack.
4. He met Rosalina by accident when walking through a market he caught the scent of her perfume booth and felt emotions well up he never knew he possessed.
5. His next mission was to be the second for a simple assassination, as soon as he arrived he knew where he was the shop of the perfume lady. He knew he couldn't kill her or allow another to harm her so he slew his partner and after letting her know what was going on they burned the building down with three bodies inside leaving Egorian for Kintargo

Two PC Goals
1. Protect Rosalina and her dream of equality in Cheliax
2. Destroying hellknights for twisting him as a child

Two PC Secrets [One known/one unknown]
1. His true name is Roth'ves'yk
2. His ancestry runs along both infernal and diabolical lines in hopes of creating a backdoor to the material plane.

Three People the PC knows [2 friends 1 enemy]
1. Rosalina Dantes his wife and best friend
2.
3. The Master the one who trained him and twisted him a nameless inquisitor of Asmodeus

Three Memories
1. Of holding his mother's hand in confusion as a man with greasy black hair handed her coins and grabbed him by the shoulder pulling him away.
2. His first kill and how hard it was to remove the bloodstains from his hands almost like it had stained his soul
3. The scent of roses as he sits with Rosalina while she brews potions and other alchemical items.

O I'm thinking Aasimars, Investigator, someone who is there as part of their job.

Hello SilentSage,

I'm submitting Lyra Weir a kitsune witch with her holier than thou chicken, Abraham. I used the emissary archetype on her familiar since he thinks he was sent by Imoedae guide her. But can easily remove that and just keep the chicken's thoughts as flavor. The kitsune part I like (the whole Fox and Hen thing) but Lyra could revert to being just a human. All her stats are in the alias.

Posting once a day isn't a problem, formatting as well, grammar sometimes, and spelling... well there is spell check happily. Occasionally though, it betrays me.

Thanks for the consideration,
John (aka Lyra)

Infernal (or at the very least Thrune) sympathetic houses include Delronge, Sarini, and Tanessen, so you'd have a couple to work with. As for you class, as I keep repeating, pick one you'd want to have some fun with.

Well, the only thing I can really see is the pet cluttering up action, but that's just a personal thing and won't affect your chances of getting in. My biggest nitpick with your profile was your history. Nothing wrong with it, just painful on the eyes to read one long paragraph with as mix of bolding and regular font. Once again though, personal thing that doesn't affect your chances.

I haven't expressly forbidden a class, but I will admit that, once again, pet classes will clutter things up if I bring along a full 6. Still, you never know if I'll pick 5 or 4, so go ahead and let me see what you want to bring to the table.

Cuàn wrote:

I feel that they are rules and suggestions.

In all seriousness, I've taken a look at the rules and see that they're quite complex. Certainly adds more options to a martial class that has options already, but can be a bit overshadowed by higher level spellcasting classes who can summon meteors or cast wishes. Give me a concept of what you're wanting to play and I'll make a final call.

The gunslinger sounds ok and I will allow early firearms. Not sure about how well the business is gonna mesh into him running a resistance movement. Definitely Not unworkable though.

The second one would be a welcome option. Sounds fun in concept really. Nice to see more traits coming out.

Hahaha yeah. I can see why the huge paragraph with bolding was hurtful. It was my first time writing a history from the point of view of the character. Also, the animal companion is easily removable if you really feel that way. Thanks for the feedback :)

She's still a work in progress but let me know if I'm barking up the wrong tree.

I was thinking of signing up for this with an Id bloodrager of kindness. He might be a good fit as a friend for her, He's a human raised by halflings who does backstage work at the opera houses. He's not very political but would definitely tag along if he had a friend that was going.

PM me if you would like to work on something together.

I'm not against pet classes because I used a had a Dedication Phantom pet in my run. The issue lies more in the number of active elements that need to be juggled. We had 3 players in our run, so since we were short one, I played a with a helper to try and balance things out before the bard took Leadership. with 4 to 6 players trying to do something around the same time, we get to deal with the spacing game.

Like I said, it's not unworkable if it's a class you really want to play. Player fun takes priority. I am merely your humble guide through the story of your triumph over evil.

I am more than willing to have connections with other PCs as well, though it would likely make sense to see if we're accepted first before doing too much. =)

Dot!!! I have a Teifling vigilate(warlock) I made for this AP a while ago, but didn't get to apply. I'll alter him a little to better for your requirements ^-^

Here is the alias(which is mostly unchanged) and should for most of your requirements... Save for the skills, Abilites, and such. I'll be editing those soon.

This lowly bartender has been at work for a while now, putting on a mask and vandalising several Azmodian shrines.

And he's been establishing connection in the redroof as the mysterious Masked Devil of Sarenrae.

As far as concept goes I'm more tied to background than to mechanics.

I'm looking at a male Human Fighter coming from one of Cheliax's most prominent noble houses (either Henderthane or Narikopolus) but it's a house without prominent holdings in Kintargo. If a Henderthane my character will go for melee and take the Siegebreaker archetype, if a Narikopolus he'd be a straight up Fighter focusing on archery.
Trait wise there are several fitting options. Ex-Asmodean would be a natural fit but Historian of the Rebellion, Natural Leader and Urban Sleuth all work.

Background:
At age twenty five he already is a veteran of sorts. At age eleven he was sent to be his cousin's squire at the end of the Goblinblood Wars, his cousin being a Hellknight armiger on the verge of becoming a full Hellknight.

The cousin perished after being overwhelmed by an immense number of goblins. My character initially survived by hiding among the bodies but was later discovered when the goblins started scavenging among the dead bodies. If not for the timely arrival of a squad of Andoran Eagle Knights he would have lost more than half of a finger on his left hand. The Eagle Knight took him back to their camp, nursed him back to health and he stayed with them for the remainder of the war as their camp was the safest place for him to be.

After the war the Eagle Knight that had saved him from the goblins took it upon himself to bring my character back home. He got special dispensation to cross Cheliax and bring the boy but once that was done he was, to his own and my character's shock, immediately clapped in irons and imprisoned for being an Andoran infiltrator.

My character's reaction to the way his saviour was treated combined with his prolonged exposure to the "perverted" ideologies of the Andorans prompted his family to arrange for my character to be sent away to a military academy two days from the city of Kantaria for re-education. However, during the night before they would arrive at the academy he slipped away with the purse that contained his tuition for the first year and fled further west and ended up in Kintargo.

The first thing he did when he arrived in Kintargo was changing his last name as his real name would cause naught but trouble. There lived for years on the fat purse by being very prudent when it came to expenses. When the money started to run low he joined the dottari. For several years he enjoyed his work there, until Barzillai Thrune arrived. That man and his rules represented all he had left behind and so he left it all behind once more. Now he is contemplating boarding a ship and leaving Cheliax behind for good.

Dotting, I will expand the background and complete the equipment list if chosen. I kept the background short but to the point on purpose.

Linking before a game is a double-edged sword. It either means both are in or both are out. Still, bring the characters with some fluff and we'll see if you make the cut.

Also, as a side note I forgot to mention in previous posts, @Isabelle d'Sarini, a bit more than a simple summary of your character and her motivations would help your chances.I like me some fluff.

I like the fluff. I'll tell you what. I'll add the stamina pool and rules, but you you'll have to pay a Fighter Bonus feat for it. That sound fair?

Raltus wrote:

Not a bad concept, I but desire more fluff. I require a bit more backstory than the simple motivation from your first post here.

I've got a background from another HR recruitment, it can be found Here. I'm currently working on expanding it.

Oh I am working on it, that is just the mechanics and I have already changed a few things. You are ok with the Leadership feat or no?

It's still something for me to work with. Thanks for the cooperation. :)

Hmm...do I need more fluff? =)

And anyone who wants may read my background though it may spoil the surprise of my character for you (if he gets accepted at least), and PM me for background linking options.

In Brief:
He is an ex-noble who had some tragedy in his life, lost love and family betrayal so has walked away from his heritage.

You're good on background fluff, Malavik. Thanks for asking though. :)

Dotting with this character. Will get to the fluff this week!

Servis was the apprentice of an Azmodian preists. When he realized that Azmodian where satist and murderers, he left(or rather they made him leave.) He then lived among the Redroof and searched for work. He was hired as a bartender in the Devil's Nursery.

He needs someone to teach him theiving skills as well as Martal combat

I'm willing to add in your Character's as those teachers (and if you aren't picked I don't need as much work to remove you)

I'm open for discussion

First thing though, he's a Vigilante and is known as the Masked Devil of Sarenrae(or "White Devil" for Short)

This is Ouachitonian, presenting Liam, wandering ne'er-do-well (Publicly, anyway. In truth he's an inquisitor of Milani working to undermine Asmodeus and Thrune). At present, he's built as a Sacred Huntsmaster Inquisitor, but if the selected party is large enough that his dog companion is going to clutter things, I'm fine with removing that archetype(perhaps replacing it with another). In addition to being a reasonably capable combatant, he can do some healing and has a lot of skills.

Dark Archive

Felinder's backstory has been added. It may seem barebones, but there's more to be revealed through Roleplaying.
