DESCRIPTION:

Malavik is a young man of Chelaxian descent and noble features. He could almost be called handsome despite the light scarring on the right side of his face reminiscent of an animal attack. His skin is lightly tanned, and he sports a lithe graceful build. His black hair is kept somewhat short and styled. His eyes are a dark brown color, and are very expressive. While bartending, he wore a simple outfit and no accoutrements. Going to the protest he has pulled out his old gear as if he wants people to see what could be a noble among the protestors. He wears a nice outfit in the style of Kintargo's nobility, along with a signet ring and nice jewelry. He carries a longbow with a quiver of arrows, along with a stuffed pack, a single spiked gauntlet and a breastplate when he's expecting trouble. He has a wooden holy symbol that he keeps hidden in his shirt.

PERSONALITY:

Malavik is a passionate person for whom emotions run deep. He isn't always adept at keeping them in check, either. He likes to have a good time and loves drinking (not just for religious reasons), but is also a man of sorrow having lost his love, his old life and his family. So sometimes the drinking is for forgetful bliss. He hates his family, but just as equally still loves them - after all, they are his family. He misses Valeria but is trying to move on with his life and honor her memory. He knows things need to change in the city - currently they are changing for the worse! Someone has to stand up for all the people who can't stand up for themselves, or are too scared to -it might as well be him!

DIALOGUE:

One night while working the bar, Malavik tells a story to several patrons. "A man walks in to a bar, and tells the bartender that he needs a strong drink to forget his troubles." All the patrons let out a roar of agreement, lift their mugs and drink! Malavik chuckles and goes on, "The bartender pours a drink and asks the man what troubles him. The man replies that his cat is happy, his wife is in love and his best friend is getting married. The man then downs his drink and asks for another, which the bartender pours." All the patrons chuckle, knowing it's not that easy. "The bartender replies back that the man listed off things that all sound good. The man nods and drinks the next drink. Then he says 'Of course it sounds good, on the surface. Problems is...the cat's happy because she won't be living with me anymore. She's gonna be living with my wife, who's in love with my best friend, not me, an' they're getting married tomorrow.' The bartender looks stunned and gives him the next drink free."

The patrons all laugh except for one. Malavik raises an eyebrow when that person asks him the moral. "The moral of the story? Could be a few things. Things aren't always what they appear; don't judge a book by its cover; sometimes there's more going on then meets the eye." He takes a drink himself. "Personally, I choose to think that it means that life goes on and I should shut up and drink more!" The patrons all roar in agreement and drink up.

BACKGROUND:

Malavik was born to a wealthy family in Kintargo, the Tanessen family. When he was growing up he was every bit the spoiled brat who wanted for nothing. He terrorized the house staff, especially the children of the house staff that lived on the grounds as well. The son (Taidenzio) and daughter (Contressa) of one of the maids were a favorite target. Denzio and Tressa were often forced to spend time with Malavik and help keep him entertained as playmates (or 'playthings' as he liked to taunt them). He would dress them in funny clothes, make them participate in cruel games, play pranks on them, get them in trouble for pranks, embarrass them, even forced his first kiss on Tressa (and hers too). They both despised and hated Malavik and did everything they could to get him in to trouble without getting in to trouble themselves.

He wasn't the firstborn son in his family so he wasn't being groomed for anything in particular, mostly allowed to go his own way aside from an arranged marriage. He spent money, went to parties, shopped, annoyed merchants with his whimsy demands for things to be brought to him to view/try that he didn't end up buying - particularly one merchant of fine wines named Lucius Geta. His bride-to-be was Valeria Wexilor from a wealthy merchant family that the Tanessen were looking to consolidate (ie: take over or at least take a percentage of the business). Malavik didn't give the marriage much thought since it wasn't going to happen until he was eighteen.

But then he met Valeria at a ball thrown to bring the two families together. She was stunning, intelligent, and had a wicked sense of humor. He fell instantly in love and found that he wanted to be worthy of her. So he cleaned up his act and began to make himself better. They began to spend more time together as he tried to see if she cared at all for him, which at first she didn't seem to. She was mean, snide, and dismissive, but always polite. After a time, though, he began to see this as the mask she wore to protect herself, and he tried to coax her out from behind it. And it seemed to be working, and love seemed to be blooming between them.

A week before the wedding everything fell apart. The Wexilor family angered a noble family from Westcrown when a shipment was stolen by bandits, which wasn't the first time, and the noble family suspected the merchants of deliberately stealing for profit. The entire family was found dead in their home, seemingly torn apart by beasts of some sort. The investigation was quietly and quickly closed. Malavik, however, knew exactly what had happened - he had been there spending time with Valeria when the shadow beasts attacked. He had been mauled by one of the beasts going after Valeria and left for dead since he wasn't a member of the family. He awoke several days later in his own family's estate, having been magically healed several times over the last few days, though he forever after had a slight limp in one leg.

He mourned for a long time. His family supported him but gently then not so gently nudged him back to a routine. They waited for six months before mentioning the possibility of another marriage match. Malavik angrily stormed out. Then a month or so later while out drinking he overheard some men talking about the new jobs that they'd gotten as guards for shipments to Westcrown. Apparently they had overheard some talk that the family - his family! - that had taken over had been the ones to leak the information about the shipments to bandits so that they could take the merchant's entire business once they were out of the way. The rage that consumed him was almost all-encompassing. He attacked the men but was beaten unconscious. The bartender, a man named Felius Cento, stopped the men from killing him. He awoke the next day, hurt and hungover, in a room above the bar. The bartender was a priest of Cayden Cailean and talked with Malavik as he healed him over the next few days.

Malavik sent a letter to his family to let them know he had disowned them and wanted nothing to do with them, that he knew of what they had (though he wasn't stupid enough to spell it out in a letter that anyone could intercept), and there would be no forgiveness. Since then he has become a priest of Cayden Cailean as well, since he drinks a lot anyway and is a big proponent of freedom. Giving up his old life and last name, he has taken on the 'new' last name from a former hero and priest of Cayden Cailean (Aurora Forzeyr) who died defending the Church when it was burned to the ground during the Chelish Civil War. He is tired of the lies, the injustice, the unfair laws, and the spread of evil corruption. He's fed-up and it's time someone took a stand.
