Nothing detects as magical.

The rocks appear to be boulders which are shaped using the tools on the bench, presumably these are then used for some kind of siege engine. You surmise that the palanquin is used to transport them. They are huge enough that it would probably take 2 giants to carry the rocks.

Zavier gets smacked for a lot of pain and is actually farily surprised to find himself grappled!

If that works and he is in charge of the grapple. He immediately tries to pin the Mohrg and smack him about in turn.
