Indeed. I am sure i'm not the only one.

"Farewell and adieu to you fine Chelish ladies...."Chumbeard slurredly sings under his breath.

Male Gnome Bard (Archaeologist) 1

A gnome enters the tavern and surveys the establishment.

Hmm, hmm, “If you want the map, come to the Formidably Maid tavern, I will find you there”, the note said. Great, how shall he find me? Not that there is overabundance of gnomes here, hi, hi. Maybe I should get the attention of the crowd, just to make sure…

He makes his way to the bar Excuse me, sir, excuse me, sir and puts a coin in front of the barkeep A pint of ale please, I am gonna be quite thirsty after this.

Than he hops on the bar, grins cheerfully and waves his hands above his head to get the attention.

Dear gentlemen, and gentle savage he winks at the pointy toothed man I would just like to let you all know I am here. The name is Kiddobunckle, an explorer of some renowned, and I am sure one of you has something for me here. So here I am, ready to make a deal. I will be at the bar here, enjoying what passes for good ale in this nice tavern. Thank you for your attention!

Kiddobunckle looks around the room one last time if anybody seems to want to talk to him and jumps down to drink his ale.

Chumtooth looks at the strange, small Other.

"This Small One says many words. This Small One has travelled far and seen many things? This Small One has stories to tell, yes?"

His question has an unmistakably demanding tone.

Male Gnome Bard (Archaeologist) 1

Oh yes, my savage friend, I travelled far and wide and know many a tale of distant lands, strange creatures, brave warriors and high adventure. I would be more than happy to share them with you. Just let me drink a pint or two of the good ale here, my throat is quite dry after the journey. In the meantime, how shall I call you, my friend?

"Others call this one Chumtooth," he replies; his lips curling back from his stained, pointed teeth. "Chumtooth hunts and kills whales, on ship of Others."

He places a hand on the shaft on the harpoon, still stuck in the floorboard, beside him.

"Chumtooth kills whales, and flenses them," Chumtooth adds, moving his hand to the curved knife tucked into his sash. "Others cook whale fat to make oil. Other Others give Others coins for oil, then Others give coins to Chumtooth."

Male Gnome Bard (Archaeologist) 1

Oh, whaling must be a smelly and meaty enterprise, my dear Chumtooth. But it sure requires bravery and skill, says the gnome. I better stay on the good side of this guy, would not want to have a disagreement with someone this fearsome looking.

Drinking last of the ale Kiddobunckle turns to the barkeep and places another coin in front of him. Another pint of ale, please.

His eye fall on the incomplete dwarf, he grins as he suddenly remembers something.
Well, Chumtooth, seeing our dwarven friend here, I just remembered a story of a most unfortunate ship cook. I hope the dwarf will not mind me telling as it concerns peg leg, hook hand and an eye patch, Kiddobunckle smiles apologetically at the dwarf.

As the story goes, Captain Dishcave was taking on extra crew for a voyage to Sargava. He liked to recruit personally and was sat at a small desk on the quayside at Cassomir in Taldor. He was questioning a fifty-year old sea cook who had a wooden leg, an eye patch and a hook at the end of his left arm.
“So how did you lose your leg?” he asked the old salt. “We was sailin’ round the Eye of Abendego in a great swell and I fell overboard. A shark ‘ad me leg before me mates hauled me out of the water!”
“I see”, said Dishcave, “and what about your hand?” he pointed to the hook. “We was attackin’ a slaver –swords a-swingin’ and blow me if one of me own didn’t cut me ‘and off by accident!”
“Well that was unfortunate. Tell me how did you manage to lose an eye?” asked an amused Dishcave. “It was a seagull droppin’ that caused that sir”, said the sailor, almost apologetically. “A seagull dropping caused you to lose an eye? That’s amazing!” said the captain.
“Aye, well it was me first day with the hook!” answered the unfortunate man.

Kiddobunckle sips his ale, watching how the tale is received. There sure should be a moral in that story somewhere. Beware the seagull droppings is probably not it.

Male Human Wizard 1 (Evocation School)/ Unch Monk 1-HP 14/14 ; AC 14 Touch 14 FF 12 (+4 with Mage Armor,+2 Monk); Fort+3 Ref +4 Will+4; Perc +6; Spd 30 ft ForMiss 5/5 (1d4+1)

It's an old tale. But I still enjoy the cruel twist all the same. How about that one..: "One pirate said to his fellow crewmate, "Arrrgh, that be a fine looking hook and peg leg ye got for ye'self!"
The pirate replied, "I should think so, it cost me and arm and a leg!"

Cadj gives an uneasy, cold smile, chuckling for himself.
Then he looks at the diminutive gnome and says

I have another story about whales, but I won't say it in front of children.

Male Gnome Bard (Archaeologist) 1

I have a feeling my friend Chumtooth is quite fed up with stories about whales. And if you see any children here you should have your eyesight checked. Maybe Mr. Sawbones over there may be able to help you.

It also brings to mind the tale of two sailors meeting at a dockside tavern after long time on the sea.
“I have something with my eyesight, I see spots” says the first.
“And have you seen a healer?” asks the second.
“No, just spots…”

Kiddobuckle stares at the human with innocent look.

Male Dwarf (Saltbeard race trait) Barbarian

Chumbeard actually chuckles at the annoying little gnome. "That's a good one. I hadn't heard that one before."
Looking around the room with his good eye, Chumbeard clears his throat. "Stop me if ye've heard this one. Long ago lived a Chelish mariner known as Captain Bravo. He was a manly man who showed no fear in facing his enemies. One day, while sailing the Inner Sea fat with plunder, a look-out spotted a pirate ship and the crew became frantic. Captain Bravo bellowed, "Bring me my Red Shirt." The First Mate quickly retrieved the captain's red shirt and whilst wearing the bright red frock he led his men into battle and defeated the pirates.
Later on that day, the look-out spotted not one, but two more pirate ships. The captain again called for his red shirt and once again, though the fighting was fierce, he was victorious over the two ships. That evening, all the men sat around on the deck recounting the day's triumphs and one of the them asked the captain, "Sir, why do you call for your red shirt before battle?" The captain replied, "If I am wounded in the attack, the shirt will not show my blood and thus, you men will continue to fight, unafraid."
All of the men sat in silence and marveled at the courage of such a stouthearted man as Captain Bravo. As dawn came the next morning, the look-out spotted not one, not two, but TEN pirates ships approaching on the far horizon. The crew stared at the captain and waited for his usual reply.
Captain Bravo calmly shouted, "Get me my brown pants.""

Male Gnome Bard (Archaeologist) 1

Kiddobunckle rises his mug
A toast to the valiant and smart Captain Bravo!
That was a good one, Master Dwarf.

Stephan laughs at all these jokes, and can't help, but add one more.

"On a ship called Paradise there lived a wizard name Jax, and a parrot named Gren. Jax hated Gren because whenever he did magic tricks for the captain, and crew the parrot would scream out the trick. "IT'S IN HIS SLEVEE, SQUAK. HE HID IT UNDER THE TABLE, SQUAK. HE JUST MADE IT VANISH FOR A SECOND, SQUAK!" Now Jax kept trying, and trying to ignore Gren, but one day he snapped. He threw a fireball at Gren, but Gren dodged it. The fireball hit the alchemist fire room, and the entire ship was blown up. The only survivors were Jax, and Gren. Jax was floating on a piece of the ship when Gren came up and said "ALRIGHT I GIVE UP. WHERE'D YOU PUT THE BOAT?"

Just curious, but how many of those chosen have played, GMed, or read this adventure before? I'm sure that all of you can separate player knowledge from character knowledge, so I'm not concerned about that. Just wondering how many have an idea what is to come.

Male Elf Ranger (Freebooter)/4

I'll admit I've read over some other Skull & Shackles games on the forums, so I have a bit of an idea of how things will go. I'll be keeping player knowledge separate from character knowledge - after all, it's more fun to play them as they are, and Alwen is bound to make some terrible choices based on his preferences. Terrible but ultimately amusing choices.

I ran this with my table-top group when it first appeared. I was extraordinarily jealous of them, because it looked like a lot of fun to play. I have no intention or interest whatsoever of metagaming it, and it was so long ago I have only the fuzziest recollections.*

*I do remember the halfling, because we had a lot of fun with her dialogue. And there was a bit with a ship.

That's awesome! I can't help but wonder who will be the first to get it from our group. Certainly not Dantes! He couldn't have screwed up the captain's dinner that badly, could he? ;)

Dwarven Wizard (transmuter) 10 | HP 65 | Init +5 | Perc +0 (+2 w fam) | AC: 15 T: 15 FF: 14 CMD: 12 | F +6 R +5 W +7 | App +11 SpCr +17 |Conc +14|

GM, I'm considering my action for next round. Since Dantes is one of the less capable melee fighters, I'm considering scooping Akayi up over one shoulder. I envision it as an arm under her stomach, and rolling her up to his shoulder.

The nearest rule I could find for it was manipulating an object, which is usually a move action that provokes AoO. A female kitsune is typically around 100 pounds. So the questions are: can I scoop her up and sling her over a shoulder as a move action? Standard? Full round? Do I have to drop the club to do so? How many rats would get to AoO against me if I did so? Is she close enough to Dantes to do this, or would I have to move to get to her?

AC 16 || HP 50|| Fort/Refl/Will +5/+8/+1 (+2 enchantments) || CMD 19 (21 trip) || Perc +11 || Brine's sting +8 (1d6+4/18-20) || MAP HERE

Is there a google map or anything? Hard to flank or make a nice phalanx if we don't see where the rats are :)

@Dantes: You don't have to pick her up. YOu can use the rules for dragging an item, which is to say there isn't. :D

As for the combat round: I'd say I'm even less useful than you right now, but try to make it work nonetheless. No spells? Maybe provide some flanking for someone else?

I believe that a wizard doesn't need to prepare spells every morning. If he doesn't, the old ones "remain" until they are replaced, no?

Dark Archive

Maps: Car. Crown || Forge of Heroes || Skull & Shackles

I can provide a map if you'll give me a bit, though in this instance, the bilges are a little space and there are a lot of creatures in said small space, making it difficult to maneuver.

Ayaki is close enough to Dantes (close-quarters, like I said) to grab her. Most of you are adjacent to at least one other (if not two). It's a move action to pick her up; I'll roll randomly to see if the rats get an AoO, since they are assumed to be constantly moving about the room (which is why I am rolling randomly to see who they attack each turn).

Dwarven Wizard (transmuter) 10 | HP 65 | Init +5 | Perc +0 (+2 w fam) | AC: 15 T: 15 FF: 14 CMD: 12 | F +6 R +5 W +7 | App +11 SpCr +17 |Conc +14|

I certainly don't mind doing it without a map if you don't mind questions like the ones above. It does seem suitable for the circumstances to be a little blind on the situation...

I don't think I need to prepare spells every morning, just if I want to change what is memorized or regain ones used. However, I don't have components yet for some spells and I didn't want to risk AoOs or missed concentration checks for using cantrips.

I was also hoping to use this encounter to bond with some of the others in the group in character (hence trying to save Ayaki) so he can get help getting his book back. :)

Male Elf Ranger (Freebooter)/4

Like I noted in my in-game post, 0hp is not unconscious, just disabled, so Ayaki can escape on her own if she wants. And I'm thinking that if we want a better chance, we'll want to clear the bilge water so they aren't concealed by it. Though I'm guessing the bilge pumps are where the rats can still nip at our heels.

I say we keep fighting defensively. Raise our own ac, focus on the same rat for flanking bonus and aid bonuses, and just gang up on them.
We're really missing our armor here, and those damned rats have escaped two deaths simply because of the frakking water :(

Maps: Car. Crown || Forge of Heroes || Skull & Shackles

Sorry, did not realize Ayaki was only at 0. I rely heavily on the PCs to track hit points, but I will do so if it becomes necessary. So, yes, she is conscious, but in bad shape. The best way to handle this encounter is probably just as Satinder has suggested.

Is there any way we could stop the 50% misschance? Like create waves with our footwork, break it down to 20%?

Dark Archive

Maps: Car. Crown || Forge of Heroes || Skull & Shackles

Pumping the bilge would do it, but that requires someone dedicated to doing so for at least 5 rounds in order to make a noticeable difference. I will allow the constant movement to drop the miss chance to 20%, however.
