Davosh the Wanderer |
Davosh grabs Vojtek by the face, squeezing it comically, though there is no mirth in the Warlock. When he speaks his voice is lower, and almost sounds like a chorus of one, "There is fire in your belly sir! Thee is a rage that is unfettered. You have died and returned in order to bring death and misery to the foul. I say there is fire APLENTY!"
He releases his friend, takes a deep breath and continues in a calm voice, "I've got some alchemist's fire and a few spells."
Edward W.Fell |
Kappi how about you try and reprise your roll as Kappi-thulu and put that Rimepelt to good use. Maybe we can chat our way past these trolls, or at least get close enough to let Vojtek and Ali engage from suprise. Also remember the breath weapon, and lets spread out
Ed takes a few moments and life links with Vojtek and Ali.
Vojtek Wartooth |
Vojtek was left wondering what in the icy hells Davosh was carrying on about, but nodded respectfully as he was taught to do when his elders spoke of incomprehensible things. The man spoke for the ancestors after all.
Vojtek stole a quick glance towards Kappi, asking nonverbally if he was getting some sense out of it. Vojtek found Kappi's gaze glued to his boots though.
Left with no clear answer regarding troll-slaying, Vojtek decided to simply trust Davosh on the point, and do his job of hewing troll flesh at the appointed time.
But seriously, Fire? Acid? Lava? Coke & Pop Rocks? Vojtek has nothing of the sort.
Davosh the Wanderer |
I've got some alchemit's fire, and 2 spells that do fire damage.
GM thunderspirit |
Does the thicket itself appear to radiate magic? Detect Magic please.
Blindingly. Ali gets such a headache that she can't even concentrate long enough to discern the type of magic. Davosh looks at her and decides discretion is the better part of valor and declines to cast and check himself.
Kappi puts on the cloak, and...nothing happens! When Davosh gamely checks the pelt, it continues to radiate magic, but it seems it will not function here near this magical forest!

bugger!
The lad placed the Rimepelt around his shoulders and willed the change to wolf form as he fell forward expecting to land on canine paws. In shock, the lad climbed to his feet with slightly scuffed up very human palms. With a confused look the lad shrugs his shoulders.
Shall we just try this the old fashioned way... Kappi pulls out a tomahawk and flips it in the air, deftly catching it again by the handle. Or maybe some judicious use of burning oil to isolate one of them? With an almost over exaggerated looks on questioning on his face the lad turns to Davosh and Ali. Can either of you do illusions? My mother's eighth cousin on her father's side wasn't much of a wizard but he could do the most amazing illusions. Could either of you make a wall of fire? Might be just as effective as an actual wall of fire...
Davosh the Wanderer |
Sorry for my absence. Between he holidays and F2F games, I've had a hard time absorbing my AP level games and getting caught up to date. Since RLCF I'm going to say that I'll be back to posting in character for Davosh on Sunday, and full speed on Monday.
GM thunderspirit |
I'm fine with that. Real Life Comes First [tm].
Vojtek Wartooth |
Let's go. Vojtek signals that we should attack the trolls post-haste.
GM thunderspirit |
Vojtek shoulders his new greataxe and heads off toward the opening in the forest...
People can try to talk him out of it — or join him, as desired.
Davosh the Wanderer |
Davosh shakes his head, knowing that at the end of the day, Vojtek would have it no other way. He takes a moment to cast a spell of Burning Gaze through Liska, and asks that she accompany the mercurial man.
GM thunderspirit |
Map updated, incidentally. PCs and opening are at the bottom.
Vojtek Wartooth |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Vojtek issues forth a rare belly laugh, "You might not with your thin Elven Woman-Blood! I was born to this!"
Vojtek Wartooth |
Vojtek was about to continue the banter, but he was a aware that rather rapidly the banter could turn towards, 'well at least I didn't lose a fight with my sworn enemy the day before yesterday!' He settles for an awkward chuckle and a nod of sincere respect for Ali's demonstrated toughness.
GM thunderspirit |
The bored and not especially attentive trolls do not notice as Ali and Vjtek make their way toward the Square.
Vojtek has a vial of alchemist's fire in hand (from Ali), and a rudimentary knowledge of what to do with it. Meanwhile, a fired-up Liska darts between his and the elf's legs, her fur raised in anticipation.
Davosh: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Edward: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Kappi: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Vojtek: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
trolls: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Round 1
Ali
Kappi
trolls
Davosh
Vojtek
Edward
But first, Ali, Liska, and Vojtek get a single Standard action surprise round! The rest of the party can also use a single Standard, though they have no direct line of effect to the baddies at present due to the surrounding trees.
Davosh the Wanderer |
I sent Liska with Vojtek though, and she has a spell ready to go :-)
GM thunderspirit |
I sent Liska with Vojtek though, and she has a spell ready to go :-)
Which is why she's in the surprise round. :-P
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |
Ali ejects the wand of Shield (free action) from her wrist sheath, uses it (standard), and drops it at her feet. (free action) she then smiles at the trolls, and gives them the "come here!!" finger wag, sword raised in high guard.
Davosh the Wanderer |
I missed Liska! My apologies!
The winter fox does her level best to work her eyes the way her master does. While the result is hardly accurate, the magic flows nonetheless.
Targeting Blue. FORT DC 18 to avoid taking 1d6 ⇒ 2 fire damage. Failing the save also causes it to catch fire.
GM thunderspirit |
Ali shields up!
Targeting Blue. FORT DC 18 to avoid taking d6 fire damage. Failing the save also causes it to catch fire.
Point of order: the spell text says it allows a Refl save if damaged (fails the Fort save) or the target catches fire.
DC 18 Fort: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18Blue feels uncomfortable heat, but is not damaged!
can Kappi get in on the surprise round with a hurled weapon? He has the precise shot feat.
I'll allow Kappi to move up even with Ali as his surprise round action, then can attack Blue with some cover as his Round 1 action. Still flat-footed at that point.
Vojtek! And Edward and Davosh each have a Standard of their own that doesn't target the ice trolls.
Davosh the Wanderer |
Yeah, that was haste on my part. Network was off and one, so I typed as quickly as possible whenever it was up.
Davosh begins cackling a bit to himself as his feet leave the ground.... Not Cackle with a capital C, but I do use the Fly Hex
Kappi Matarito |
When Kappi noticed Ali doing some sort of magic w/ her wand the lad took this as the signal. The rogue stepped up to get an angle on the Blue Troll (but still leave a corridor for a charging Vojtek).
Kappi flipped the alchemical flask once in the air then caught it by the bottle neck and hurled it.
throwing attack 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 9 + 1 = 15
alchemical fire round one damage 1d6 ⇒ 3
GM thunderspirit |
Kappi has sneak attack dice, yes?
Vojtek Wartooth |
Vojtek hefts the Alchemical Fire thoughtfully, smiles and nods at the Troll amicably, then steps forward quite suddenly and hurls the vial at the closest Troll!
5 ft, chuck fire: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19 for 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 (did I do that right?)
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |

almost 100%. Alas and alack, you don't get str damage on splash-style weapons.

Im sure Vojtek is carrying special heavy weight alchemical flasks that apply str dmage too
GM thunderspirit |
Davosh takes to the air while Kappi moves up in antici...
...pation of his next move.
Vojtek hurls his non-special heavyweight alchemical flask at Blue, hitting the troll squarely in the face! It roars in fury!
DC 15 Refl: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 Natural Jeff!
Blue catches on fire!
Kappi adds insult to Blue's injury by hitting with another flask, this time not only square in the face but inside its mouth! Its shouts are quickly drowned out by the burning liquid!
Ali is up!
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |
Ali whoops in delight at the conflagration. She imbues her sword with magic (+1 Flaming), and charges (Not an actual charge, just an idiom) the on-fire troll.
Hey, you're a fire swallower!! Are you a sword-swallower too? LET'S FIND OUT!!
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Damage: 1d10 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (9) + 3 + (3) = 15 <--3 of this is fire
Hey, you are!!
GM thunderspirit |
Ali's blade drives into the chest of Blue, and the flame continues to burn...
burn!: 1d6 ⇒ 5
...and the ice troll keels over, its body continuing to burn!
Red full-attacks Ali with Power Attack!
greataxe: 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 10 - 2 = 21
dmg: 3d6 + 13 ⇒ (2, 5, 1) + 13 = 21
bite: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 5 - 2 = 22
dmg: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
And Orange moves up and swings its own greataxe, also with Power Attack!
greataxe: 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 10 - 2 = 13
dmg: 3d6 + 13 ⇒ (6, 5, 4) + 13 = 28
You guys are up!
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |
Badly injured by the 2 viscous strikes, Ali 5' steps back and casts Burning Hands, hitting both trolls
fire!!: 5d4 ⇒ (4, 3, 2, 3, 1) = 13 ref 15 for half
GM thunderspirit |
DC 15 Refl (O): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
DC 15 Refl (R): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Vojtek Wartooth |
OOC- Vojtek should be right up in front of the red x Troll.
Vojtek lunges toward the Troll to his right, hoping to interpose himself between Ali and the foe as a meat shield. (5' step northeast)
He slashes at the Troll with fierce abandon, yet not in his customary rage.
Round 1:
Power Attack with Great Axe: 1d20 + 13 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 13 - 2 = 19 for 1d12 + 7 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 7 + 6 = 23 damage.
And again!
Power Attack with Great Axe: 1d20 + 13 - 5 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 13 - 5 - 2 = 26 for 1d12 + 7 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 6 = 21 damage.
Confirm!
Power Attack with Great Axe: 1d20 + 13 - 5 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 13 - 5 - 2 = 23 for 1d12 + 7 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 7 + 6 = 17 damage.
GM thunderspirit |
wait, I got lost. We did the surprise round, and now Ali's burning hands spell is round one? Or did we start round 2?
Kappi and Ali's actions just before the trolls attacked were the beginning of Round 1, since they went before the trolls (which is why Kappi's flask had sneak dice.)
PbP lends itself to a "they-go-you-go" situation. The rest of the party now goes before the trolls do again, so it's kind of a morph between Round 1 and Round 2. Ali and Vojtek have already acted. Sorry for the confusion.
Davosh the Wanderer |
Davosh opens the Big Eye on the troll to his left (orange). He strikes it with an Evil Eye hex, giving it a -2 to saves (Will DC 19 to cut the duration to one round.)
Liska in turn flashes the Burning Gaze his way too.
Edward W.Fell |
Not sure where we are.. but here I guess is my action
Feeling in the new found ability to link with both Vojtek and Ali, Edward strides forward with them stopping when he's about 30' from the Ice Trolls.
Since I'm sure the map isn't right, and not sure when this is the time of things is falling. I'm going to shoot at the most appropriate target (no not Vojtek there DMTS :) )
Longbow +PBS: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Damange: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Edit: Ali heal 5hp, Ed take 5hp
Kappi Matarito |
thanks for the clarification
Kap stays behind the "front line" of Vojtek and Ali. Taking half a heart beat aim he hurls a cold iron tomahawk at the same troll Vojtek is fighting (unless dead of course).
Throwing attack (point blank/precise shot/deadly aim)
1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (11) + 9 - 1 = 19
Cold iron tomahawk 1d6 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 2 = 8
