Davosh the Wanderer |
"I'm tired of your crap lady!" Cackle to continue to reduce her AC.
"May the snows of the north knock you silly you malodorous git!" He holds out his hand, palm up. The air swirls into ice crystals and forms a snowball. Davosh then hurls it with an unpracticed hand at the witch. Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 3 - 4 = 15 if it hits, she takes COLD dmg: 5d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 2, 5, 5) = 19. She needs a DC 17 FORT save or be staggered for one round.
Edward W.Fell |
Kappi picks up his blade, and Edward contemplates life with Precise Shot, after another arrow goes wide!
I read that and thought I'm 5th lvl I should have Precise shot by now... then I looked and saw selective channel instead... Soon DM Soon I tell YE!!!
RAGING VOJTEK!!!! |
Vojtek attacks amidst too much cackling. He is a bit shocked to see a snowball sail through the air and makes a note to speak to the group about horseplay during combat. He assumes someone mistook the cackles for standard giggles.
Power Attack with Greatsword: 1d20 + 11 - 2 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 11 - 2 + 2 + 2 = 26 for 2d6 + 11 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 11 + 6 = 28 damage with Wartooth gnash: 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 2 + 2 = 14 for 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 damage.
GM thunderspirit |
Davosh never finds out if his snowball staggers the crone or not, as the damage from it combined with Vojtek's fury end the threat!
Out of combat!
Davosh the Wanderer |
Davosh pokes the witch a few times... Then he looks at the staff. His eyes grow wide. "Ali! A staff of weal this is! I know it's not your style, but it's an incredible find!"
He then holds up the ring, "Might any of you steel wielding people like a ring to provide a modicum of protection?"
He looks over the witch again, "Good riddance. You are a shame to your line, or rather you were!"
Kappi Matarito |
Kappi suggests Voytek takes the Ring of Protection +1. (his AC is pretty low for as much melee that he does)
The rogue starts checking out the double doors. I moved some people on the map.
When everyone is ready Kappi will open them.
Davosh the Wanderer |
Be careful my friend... Cast Guidance.
Ali, if you don't want the staff, no one else can use it, but I HATE selling gear like that. I'd rather keep pumping skill points into UMD so that it gets some use.
GM thunderspirit |
Kappi checks the unlocked door and opens it.
Three tables occupy the northern half of this room. A five-foot-square extrusion with a small access door on its western face runs from floor to ceiling just south of the door Kappi has opened; just barely visible is a gigantic cast-iron cauldron in the southeast corner with wood stacked beneath it. A large iron stove with twin flue pipes running into the walls fills the southwest corner.
Davosh the Wanderer |
"Ah, I am rather peckish. Hopefully she wasn't cooking children...."
Davosh begins to search the room, checking for crunchins' and munchins'.
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |
sorry, was out of touch there...prepping for a Con for my daughter!!
oooOOOOoooo nice! Too bad it won't double as a sword, but I'll still give it a go!
Ali tucks the staff behind her backpack so it can be drawn quickly (as a move action, I'd assume)
GM thunderspirit |
sorry, was out of touch there...prepping for a Con for my daughter!!
w00t! :-)
Ali tucks the staff behind her backpack so it can be drawn quickly (as a move action, I'd assume)
Sure, that's fine with me.
Trying to get out from under some work today, but let me put this up...
Kappi, learning from his past, does not let Davosh enter the room alone.
As the pair move in, the massive stove lurches to life, pulling away from the wall with its flue pipes dangling behind, belching smoke into the room!
Davosh: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Edward: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Kappi: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Vojtek: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
The Gobbler: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 = 18
Round 1
stove
Ali
Vojtek
Davosh
Kappi
Edward
The stove lunges forward (five-foot-step) and attacks 1 Kappi, 2 Davosh: 1d2 ⇒ 1!
The oven on the stove opens to reveal a fiery maw as it bites at Kappi!
bite: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
bite dmg: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 plus free grab attempt
grab vs. Kappi CMD: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35
The Varisian lad cries out as the oven door snaps onto him!
You guys are up!
Davosh the Wanderer |
Arcana: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26
"GAH! The stove! It's going to cook us! We've got to hit it hard or do something else! Weapons won't work well."
With no useful spells, Davosh opens the big eye for a Misfortune Hex: DC 19
Kappi Matarito |
not round action just posting for flavor
Out of all the strange and terrible things that has happened to young Kappi in his adventuring life, this is somehow the least expected and possibly the most terrifying.
Out of all the threats in the room the Varisian lad did NOT think the stove would walk over and attack him. He totally expected something aweful to crawl out of the stove or maybe something would pop outof the cauldron. But the rogue was caught very off guard from the stove itself!
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |
What the what!?!
Despite the danger Kappi is in, she smirks. Quick, quick...SKILLET!!
She pulls out the new staff, and fires off two Magic missiles at it.
MM damage: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 4) + 2 = 9
RAGING VOJTEK!!!! |
Vojtek's stomach grumbles and for the briefest of moments he imagines how a Kappi stew might be pretty good. Then he comessage to his senses and becomes infuriated that this stove has taken his little buddy. Vojtek has come to think of himself as a protector of the young man, and as such he can't tolerate this affront.
He runs in and attacks!
Power Attack with Greatsword: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 11 - 2 = 10 for 2d6 + 11 + 6 ⇒ (6, 5) + 11 + 6 = 28 damage
GM thunderspirit |
Ali uses her new toy!
Vojtek rages and charges in but, overwhelmed by hunger, misses the stove entirely!
DC 19 Will: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Davosh successfully brings misfortune down on the animated object!
Kappi, Edward!
Kappi Matarito |
Round One
Kappi screams a little (maybe a lot), then goes into "terrified animal mode" and begins squirming this way and that doing anything he can to ecape.
Escape Artist 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
GM thunderspirit |
Kapii struggles and fights, but cannot escape from the stove's, er, embrace!
Edward!
GM thunderspirit |
Constructs can be crit-ted.
Edward casts a spell on the barbarian's blade!
The animated stove seems to be working on the rogue in its maw!
grapple check 1: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (13) + 15 = 28
grapple check 2: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26
The Varisian lad gets swallowed whole into the belly of the fire-stoked construct!
bite dmg: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 plus
fire dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 1
You guys are up!
RAGING VOJTEK!!!! |
Vojtek drops his blade down to his side, the point resting on the stone floor briefly. He is unsure of what to do as he watches Kappi disappear down the stove's iron gullet.
Edward takes advantage of the Barbarian's pause to cast his spell on the Greatsword, and with alacrity Vojtek takes the hint and attacks.
Power Attack with Greatsword: 1d20 + 14 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 14 - 2 = 27 for 2d6 + 11 + 7 ⇒ (5, 6) + 11 + 7 = 29 damage with Wartooth gnash: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 for 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 damage.
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |
Ali drops the staff, and draws her sword on the move--swinging at the stove as soon as it's in RANGE (see what I did there??)
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
GM thunderspirit |
can Kappi still try and escape?
Sure.
A swallowed creature keeps the grappled condition, while the creature that did the swallowing does not. A swallowed creature can try to cut its way free with any light slashing or piercing weapon (the amount of cutting damage required to get free is equal to 1/10 the creature’s total hit points), or it can just try to escape the grapple.
GM thunderspirit |
Ali's blade hits the stove, but her arm goes numb for a brief second from the impact, and her sword leaves no mark at all!
Vojtek's blade hits as well, but the blow makes a vibration through the blade that his painful — not all of his sword's force seems to penetrate the steel of the stove!
Flavor description of the object's hardness.
Davosh cackles and moves (or moves and cackles, if you prefer)!
Kappi, Edward!
Kappi Matarito |
Round 2
Since trying to worm and wiggle free didn't seem to work. The only thing the Varisian lad can think to do is try and cut his way free. He holds his blade in a reverse grip as he is awkwardly kneeling and gives it his all.
sh sword damage 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |
Ooc - Yeah let's electrocute the crap out of this metal thing our friend is in! Do you even science bro?
Science?!? Dood, this is D&D
GM thunderspirit |
Kappi hacks at the interior, but finds his short sword cannot overcome the construct's hardness!
Edward! Incidentally, Davosh's knowledge check is sufficient to know that energy damage is not subject to hardness.
Davosh the Wanderer |
My bad, thanks for the FYI GM. Also, if they win tonight, I expect lots of bonus treasure!
GM thunderspirit |
My bad, thanks for the FYI GM. Also, if they win tonight, I expect lots of bonus treasure!
Ha!
If they win tonight, I'm going to be even more behind in prepping scenarios for this weekend. Why did I agree to this convention last year again, when I had no idea my favorite team would make the World Series...?
Davosh the Wanderer |
I'm with you. I've got to prep for Carnage on the Mountain this weekend, a minicon at my house next weekend. I'm not sure why I did this either.
GM thunderspirit |
Edward, feeling helpless, moves his lifelike to the rogue!
grapple check 1: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35
grapple check 2: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34
Kappi remains inside, being chewed and cooked at the same time!
fire dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 3
The stove attacks Vojtek with both its oven door and one of its free pipes!
slam (roll 1): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
slam (roll 2): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10 natural Jeff!
bite (roll 1): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
bite (roll 2): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Davosh's Misfortune has an effect! However, the smoke in the room gets thicker!
You guys are up!
GM thunderspirit |
Ooc - is anything Vojtek is doing causing damage at all?
Yep. Hardness = 10.
RAGING VOJTEK!!!! |
Vojtek lashes out suddenly, after dodging a few smoking pipes!
Power Attack with Greatsword: 1d20 + 11 - 2 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 11 - 2 + 2 + 2 = 19 for 2d6 + 11 + 6 ⇒ (4, 4) + 11 + 6 = 25 damage with Wartooth gnash: 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 2 + 2 = 25 for 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 damage.
Davosh the Wanderer |
Davosh cackles like the man he is, and casts guidance on Ali in front of him.
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |
Ali tries casting Elemental Touch, covering her blade with acid
attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 effing SRSLY?!?!
dam: 1d10 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 4 + (5) = 14
GM thunderspirit |
Ali misses with her attack, though her blade continues to bubble with acid!
Vojtek's blade hits and does some damage! His toothy maw hits as well, but instead of damaging the construct, the northman chips a tooth!
Davosh cackles madly, and tries to give Ali some guidance for her next attack! Unfortunately, he neglects to cast defensively and provokes from the black stove!
slam (roll 1): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
slam (roll 2): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Can't tell if that hit or not, so in case it did:
slam dmg: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Kappi, Edward!
Edward W.Fell |
Round 3
Edward concentrates his healing on Kappi. He uses the wand to cure the lad along with his life link.
CLW Wand on Kappi: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Kappi also receives 5hp from the life link for a total of 9hp healed. Edward takes 5, but heals 1 so 48/52
GM thunderspirit |
Edward heals the rogue, who tries but cannot escape the iron grip of the iron stove!
maintain grapple (roll 1): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22
maintain grapple (roll 2): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22
Kappi remains inside the oven, baking at an even 350 degrees!
fire dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 4
The stove continues its assault on Vojtek!
slam (roll 1): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
slam (roll 2): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
slam dmg: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
bite (roll 1): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
bite (roll 2): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
bite dmg: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 plus free grab
grab (roll 1): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (3) + 15 = 18
grab (roll 2): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20
Davosh's Misfortune prevents the barbarian from being grabbed!
The room is now considered to be filled with smoke and affects each PC within, as indicated here.
All players need to make a DC 15 Fort save this round (failure means they can do nothing but choke and cough for the round); the DC increases by 1 each subsequent round. Also, a 20% miss chance for all involved is applied (except Kappi vs. the stove and the stove vs. Kappi).
You guys are up!
Davosh the Wanderer |
FORT: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Davosh sputters and coughs, but turns it into a cackle. He then casts Guidance on Ali again...
