Ed bows. The honor would be mine Talsune with no partner. Ed has been watching the human riders and how they mount their dragonkin partners.
He approaches and mimics how Bescayle mounts Efrixe. May our flight be swift and the ruse without consequence to the defenders of Spurhorn. Apse’s blessings for all.

Vojtek Wartooth |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Vojtek is way out of his element here, he doesn't have much experience riding creatures or talking to them either. "I am Vojtek, Clanless. I come from the land of the ice and snow. I have sworn to kill The White who killed my people on the tundra by the edge of the ice."

Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |

Ali's eyes are shining with wonder at the great sliver beast. She gasps, then bows her head and places her hand over her heart.

GM thunderspirit |

Tecde appears to consider her next words carefully. I will bear you to this battle, she says at last, looking back at Ali and ruffling her wings a bit, and back again when we emerge victorious.
We shall be victorious together! Talsune says emphatically.
Turning to Kappi, Sumira says, You need not fear, Abonzeaux will bear you into the fight. It is what he has been trained for. For their part, Abonzeaux says nothing, though Kappi can sense the anxiety on the creature below him.
You should hang on tightly Nevra says, for this battle shall test us all and it would not do for you to fall off of a dragonkin. What sort of bond could form then, hmm?

GM thunderspirit |

The strike force sets off, the dragonkin all hugging closely to the ground so that no lookouts will spy them in the distance. Davosh and Liska follow along at the rear.
3d4 ⇒ (1, 3, 4) = 8
The sensation of flying is a feeling Ali will never forget – the sickening yawn in her stomach and the dizziness she gets looking at the ground below, though Tecde flies with careful regard for her rider.
Edward takes to the ride rather well, though he does not appear to enjoy the turns even with Talsune gently banking into them as they arise.
Kappi lets out a whoop of pure exhilaration before catching himself; he and Abonzeaux remain silent through the rest of the flight.
Vojtek, for his part, feels as though he is in a dream state, something stirring from his own shoulder as though wings might sprout forth at any moment. Nevra is not gentle in her path, swooping in and out of formation and letting the Northman feel the full effect of being airborne under a living creature.

Davosh the Wanderer |
2 people marked this as a favorite. |

"Yes. My only regret...." Davosh leans in for a falsetto whisper, "...is that Liska will never grow to dragon size! Imagine!"
It is in this moment that Davosh discovers that his speed is not governed by wind resistance, but by the nature of the spell. He, therefore, flies upright with his arms akimbo.

Ed realizes his difficulties while flying and that Talsune is taking it easy on him. Speaking dragon speak. Talsun, my friend. I do not mean to insult yo, but I will not learn to be a great rider if you take it easy. Please teach me challenge me. I need an expedited course if we ever need to fight together. I trust you and I hope you would trust me. I might lose a fight, but it will not be from lack of preparation or lack of training!

GM thunderspirit |

All the same, Talsune does sharpen his turns a little more.

GM thunderspirit |

Banking around a mountain, a small clearing comes int sight, with a score or more of makeshift tents and a half-dozen dragonkin, one shouting at the others.
Malesinder!
They spy you as quickly as you spy them, and the groups make ready to fight!
For the purposes of this encounter, dragonkin riders can use this statblock.
Davosh: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Edward/Talsune: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

* Link to Fly skill.
* Dragonkin have a 40' fly speed that reduces to 30' when mounted. Moving at less than half fly speed requires a fly check, as does hovering. Your dragonkin will make a DC 15 fly check to Hover automatically, but anything higher will need a roll.
* Ascending at a 45 degree angle or more costs double movement; descending at a 45 degree angel or more doubles your movement.
* You and your dragonkin each get a move action and a standard action. Keep in mind that the Fly skill may use up your dragonkin's move action.
* In order to attack another flier, you must match speed and altitude with them. Since flying creatures are considered to be in continuous motion, there are no "five foot steps", and any action that would provoke in 2D combat will also do so in 3D combat.
* Your dragonkin have the Flyby Attack feat, but you, as the rider, do not have the ability to take a standard action in the middle of your own move. You may Ready a standard action to trigger by your dragonkin's move.
* If you want to try something not covered in the above or under the Fly skill, let me know and we'll come up with something.

Davosh the Wanderer |

"Well, their haste is quite hasty. They miss out on THIS!"
Davosh casts Blessing of Fervor!
It catches Ali, Edward, their mounts, and Davosh.
With this blessing, you call your allies to move forth and empower them to conquer and become victorious. Each round for the duration of this spell, each of your allies can choose one of the following bonuses for that round at the beginning of its turn (their choice).
Make one extra attack as part of a full attack action, using its highest base attack bonus.
These effects are not cumulative with similar effects, such as those provided by haste or a speed weapon, nor do they actually grant an extra action, so you can’t use it to cast a second spell or otherwise take an extra action in the round. Blessing of fervor does not stack with haste.

Round 1
Ed urges Talsune to climb, circle and climb. Talsune please climb. Apsu's healing can span some distance, but not a great distance. Lets be twice as high as they are, and circle so I can unleash fury at Malsinder and his friends.
As Talsune climbs using the blessing of Ferver, Ed uses Davosh's ancients to help guide his arrows towards Malsinder.

GM thunderspirit |

Edward calls upon the divine anger of Zumlzi/Apsu to strike at Malesinder!
Dice rolls adjusted per Slack discussion. Edward is taking the extra attack from the blessing of fervor. The height and distance make the range to be in the second increment (geometry FTW!), but Edward's rolls are good enough that the additional –2 penalty doesn't much matter this time around.
All three of Edward's shots find their mark, and the general bellows in fury as one lodges particularly deep in his side!

Kappi Matarito |

The intensity of the situation built and built for Kappi. This was strange, so much different than riding a horse. Without really trying to the lad leaned and directed his fearsome flying comarade. As they drew into range above their foe he finally called to Abonzeaux. Fire, Acid! Whatever you got!
Abonzeaux Breath Weapon 7d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 4, 6, 5, 1, 2) = 29 Acid DC18 reflex
The lad waits only a moment for the insane acidic spray then he leaps down onto his foe short sword ready and stabbing. He hopes this to be a surprise backstabby attack.

Bronze dragonkin DC 18 Refl: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20 success for half
Abonzeaux's cone of acid strikes the foe, though they are able to avoid much of the caustic discharge.
Kappi launches himself from the saddle, much to Abonzeaux's shock and dismay – oh, Sumira and their partner Calissus will just kill me if anything happens to you! – but as he is unaccustomed to flying, his aim fails to account for the moving target Acrobatics check fails. He gets in a decent blow no sneak dice, though on his way down...though he also provokes an attack of opportunity from the opposing dragonkin...
AoO: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (15) + 18 = 33
slashing: 2d8 + 12 ⇒ (2, 8) + 12 = 22

Vojtek urges Nevra to attack with its breath weapon, then match speed, altitude, and direction with the enemy so the barbarian can attack with melee. He points directly south at the closest dragonkin flying level with him.
Fly Check: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13

White dragonkin DC 18 Refl: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19 success for half
Nevra's cone of lightning strikes the foe, though they are able to dodge much of the effect! They do not avoid Vojtek's follow-up, however, as the great axe bites into the white dragonkin's flesh!

Round 2
Ed marvels at how fast Malsinder rose from the ground to his height. Talsue, I didn't think she would be so fast. Do what you can to evade and keep her away from me (Don't bronze dragonkin have a slowing breath weapon and poison?) If you can't outpace her, lead her past Ali, and Vojtek, let them attack as she flies by. Don't worry if I fall, I will land softly like a feather.
Ed unleashes another barrage at the opposing General

Malesinder pounces on Edward and Talsune! In her hands is a huge, ice-blue scimitar that looks like it is forged from a solid block of ice.
