Kappi has a cold iron tomahawk. While he could use it on his sh sword, he looks first to Edward or Vojtek

Davosh the Wanderer |

Kappi Matarito |

With the weird blessing or luck from Ojos Locos, the Varisian lad sat down to take another crack at it. This time he started with a #6 pick and went from there...

Bazinga.
Inside the coffer is a collection of scrawled receipts, along with 200 gp in various denominations, three potion bottles, a gold locket with a portrait of a woman inside, and a silver necklace with a pearl pendant.

Davosh the Wanderer |

"I'm sure I can my boy. Well done by the way!" Davosh will read the information, and then show the picture to the others and point to the fallen it resembles. "Sad."

GM thunderspirit |

They're simple garment receipts. It would suggest this was a merchant and her family before the gremlins got ahold of them.

Vojtek Wartooth |

Vojtek beams with pride at Kappi's success. He roughly pounds the lad on the shoulder and in his enthusiasm momentarily forgets the tragic scene.
Davosh's somber mein brings the barbarian back though, and Vojtek makes off into the woods to gather kindling for a pyre.

Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |

Well done Kappi!
Ali takes the potions and the necklace, examining them closely...

TS, does the map "lead on" where Kappi is? Or does that dead end?
Sorry, brain cramp revealing that.
Kappi continues on along the path, but quickly finds that the overgrowing forest has choked off all access beyond the stolen wagon and its grisly cargo.
Ali determines that the potions are cure light wounds and that the pearl is actually a pearl of power (1st).

Davosh the Wanderer |

I'd gladly put my hand in for the pearl. Outside of spells, hexes are my only schtick. If others want it, I'll gladly dice. 1d20 ⇒ 19

Kappi Matarito |

While Vojtek is possibly building a funeral pyre. Davosh and Ali are looking/identifying the coffer from the loot (and figuring out who looks better w/ a pearl necklace). Assuming Kappi still has a moment he checks the dead end for any hidden treasure/loot/anything of interest.

While the rest were scouting and treasure hunting, Edward was busy with the bodies of the fallen family. Stacking the pices of the broken cart to make a hasty pyre. He then placed the bodies on top of it.
Edward then kneels and begins a small prayer. I shall ask each of you to bear witness to this unknown family of merchants. Their journey in this plane is over. May Wayfinder guide their way to their souls next stop. May they find peace and purpose. Those responsible have been held accountable so rest and prosper in your next journey. This in Apsu's name I pray.
WIth reverence Edward lights the pyre and looks at the rest, then looks at the surrounding trees and shrubbery.
It'll grow back tommorrow if it catches fire right Davosh?

Ali hands the pearl to Davosh. She bows her head at Edwards simple service for the fallen innocent. then...

I still think we should abandon this quest and open a lumber mill and wood export business next to the decanter of endless forest.

I saw that panel in Order of the Sick!!

Davosh the Wanderer |

Davosh nods at Kappi, and casts a Guidance on him before he advances.

GM thunderspirit |

Dark forested paths lead north and east out of this large clearing, but the way north is thoroughly blocked by a rippling hemisphere of churning darkness and twisted shadows. The surrounding trees seem to lean toward the area, as swirls of nearby snow and forest debris are sucked into the vortex, accompanied by a distant roar of wind. On the other side of the dark phenomenon, the path leads to a forest clearing containing a dilapidated wooden hut perched atop two giant chicken's legs, surrounded by a picket fence of bleached bones.

Davosh the Wanderer |

"If there are no dangers leading to it Kappi, I would see this vortex with my Eye."
Davosh will follow Kappi to take a look.

GM thunderspirit |

Davosh moves alongside Kappi and sees much the same. He has little doubt that the ramshackle hut is either actually Baba Yaga's Hut or an extremely good replica that radiates fantastical magic.

Davosh the Wanderer |

"Should we look around before trying to get inside?"

Kappi Matarito |

Kappi gets down on his knees and starts rolling up a huge snow ball like a kid trying to make a snowman. When he gets a bigger than bowling ball sized snow ball, he hefts it up w/ both hands. Takes a running start and hurls it into the swirling vortex of doom.

GM thunderspirit |

Kappi's snowball pierces the vortex and passes through as though nothing was there!

Votjek confidently walks into the vortex, which passively but firmly prevents his access.
He tries again, with the same result.
And again.
And again. (Vojtek is not known for his amenability.)

Vojtek Wartooth |

Vojtek pronounces that the vortex is impenetrable and makes ready to move on.

Kappi Matarito |

Kappi looks on with awe as Vojtek bravely walks into the vortex. Somehow believe the DragonHeart Barbarian could break through. But alas...

Kappi moves further east after The Vojtek Incident and peers around an encroaching conifer.
A large chunk of stone juts from the ground like a natural stage. Six boulders float in the air and slowly orbit the raised platform. The rich scent of loamy earth hangs heavy in the air, while a faint and haunting melody drifts through the air. It sounds like the rich pitched tones of a flute.

Meh, I was hoping maybe a natural 20 would make some sort of an impression on Mr. GM. I don't suppose the equally statistically likely Natural 16 would be much help here? Is that not how D&D works?

Kap reports back to the troops. But unless anyone forbid him to do so, the young rogue will start to poke around the weird floating boulder place.

Vojtek Wartooth |

Vojtek joins the lad after using his axe to cut two pointy sticks, each about 3-4 feet long and a couple fingers thick. He hands one to Kappi mutely without looking. His attention is totally focused on the floating rocks.

Moved Kappi back a bit, cos his further movement is presently hindered by a surprise bit of boxed text.
A clear, almost gentle voice rings out in Common as Kappi moves toward the floating stones. Turn back, mortals, you cannot pass. The voice appears to be coming from the raised platform, though you cannot see from whom. We have come to claim this reality, and we shall take the Crone's hovel with us. Turn away to live your lives in peace and safety, unburdened by the heavy weight of relevance.

Davosh the Wanderer |

It hasn't been a good week for my characters, but oh well...
Davosh squints his eyes and flies up to a height equal to the raised platform, "Who is talking? What are you about? Let's talk about this."
