Kappi Matarito |
Round 2
The rogue moves clear of the ice and tries to get closer to the flying woman. The lad curses all flying enemies and feels a bit lame. He considers carrying a crossbow for these situations (which seem to come up A LOT)
Double move
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |
Ali fires off another Magic Missile, using her Weird Arcana Stuff to empower it!!
MM: 4d4 + 4 ⇒ (2, 4, 4, 2) + 4 = 16—24 damage
RAGING VOJTEK!!!! |
Vojtek takes off in a beeline for the rider. Hasted move... Can he attack, or is it too far to move and attack?
GM thunderspirit |
Fly gives a fly speed of 60', and haste increaes that by another 30', so a charge would max out at 180'. I'll take a DC 15 Fly check from Vojtek to make that charge accurately. Only one attack then, of course.
RAGING VOJTEK!!!! |
Fly: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
- Round the Second
- Current HPs: 115/120
- Haste
O Great and Powerful DMTS, Your humble servant forgot he had Resist Cold 13... so HPs should be 120/120 after last round, eh?
Great Axe Air Charge!: 1d20 + 18 - 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 18 - 3 + 2 + 1 = 31 for Damage: 1d12 + 12 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 12 + 9 + 1 = 32
Damn too bad that sweet Fly roll wasn't the attack :(
GM thunderspirit |
All three of Edward's arrows land, sending Nazhwna reeling. Then Vojtek takes her head clean off with his savage charge!
Neither Davosh or Ali's spells are needed for Nazhena, but you still have a confused frost drake to deal with, so I'll allow them to change their actions!
Davosh the Wanderer |
"I'll still take care of the drake!" Davosh immediately uses his powers to take flight! The plan is to get close enough to Misfortune hex, then let everyone open up.
GM thunderspirit |
Worth mentioneing: Ali's magic missile means the drake has a target, so Davosh knows where it will be headed. In case of readied action, for example.
GM thunderspirit |
Davosh prepares a misfortunate eye as Ali lets force bolts fly!
As the drake shrieks and flies in directly at Ali, and Davosh's hex goes off!
DC 22 Will: 1d20 + 5 - 10 ⇒ (1) + 5 - 10 = -4 a negative number, courtesy of a natural Jeff!
charge bite vs hasted AC 19: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 13 + 2 = 21 hit
...OR IS IT?: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 13 + 2 = 27 it is!
chomp: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 2) + 6 = 9 plus cold: 1d6 ⇒ 2

With the drake on the ground the lad seizes his chance. He rushes forward, magic sword in hand he tries to thrust it between the scales.
Attack 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30
sh sword 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
does the drake have reach? Kappi will tumble/acrobatics if need
GM thunderspirit |

It does, but in its confused state I'm going to rule no AoO.

GM thunderspirit |
I think the drake crossed right next to Vojtek on it's way to Ali... so do I get an AOO?
It started out at 40' up and was southwest of the cloudkill, so wouldn't have provoked from anyone.
Edward W.Fell |
Round 3
That's the mighty axe of Vojtek! Ed cheers the barbarian. He quickly shifts his smite to the grounded drake, as well as his language back to the gutteral growling draconic. Drake you chose the wrong ally. Suffer the judgement of Apsu.
Longbow w/ Haste, PBS, Smite
Longbow: 1d20 + 14 + 1 + 1 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 14 + 1 + 1 + 5 = 36
Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 1 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 1 + 1 + 7 = 17
Longbow: 1d20 + 9 + 1 + 1 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 1 + 1 + 5 = 22

Longbow: 1d20 + 14 + 1 + 1 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 14 + 1 + 1 + 5 = 28
Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 1 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 1 + 7 = 13
Davosh, Kappi, Vojtek heal 5, Ed takes 15, heals 1 so 28/70 hp's left

Ali blinks, her blade bursting into flames (use 2 pool points to activate Clinging Pool Strike, fire)
she then sidesteps, and swings at the drake.
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
1d10 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 <--if hit, also fire damage: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 4) = 10
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 <--THREAT!!
1d10 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
1d10 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
if that crit confirms, I'll regain 1 arcane pool point
haste attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
1d10 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
RAGING VOJTEK!!!! |
- Round the Third
- Current HPs: 115/120
- Hasted
- Flying
Vojtek's gambit to elicit an attack of opportunity as the drake flew by was foiled, but he found some satisfaction in the opportunity to move just a few paces to unleash a full attack on the creature.
Great Axe: 1d20 + 18 - 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 18 - 3 + 2 + 1 = 33 for Damage: 1d12 + 12 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 12 + 9 = 26
Great Axe Second Attack: 1d20 + 18 - 3 - 5 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 18 - 3 - 5 + 2 + 1 = 29 for Damage: 1d12 + 12 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 12 + 9 = 26
Great Axe Hasted Attack: 1d20 + 18 - 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 18 - 3 + 2 + 1 = 37 for Damage: 1d12 + 12 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 12 + 9 = 27
Great Axe Hasted Attack Confirmation: 1d20 + 18 - 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 18 - 3 + 2 + 1 = 33 for Damage: 1d12 + 12 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 12 + 9 = 32
And Wartooth Gnash!: 1d20 + 12 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 12 + 2 + 1 = 18 for Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8.
The greataxe's ringing song of carnage and fury pealed loud and true in the cold air. Blood and drakemeat flew in all directions as the barbarian slaked his bloodlust on the dragonkin without mercy.
GM thunderspirit |
Ali and Votjek combine to put the confused drake down!
Out of combat!
If you make a DC 27 Spellcraft check, check the spoiler below.
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |
spellcraft to identify: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (15) + 17 = 32
Ali whistles in awe & appreciation as she takes up the sickle Nazhena wielded.
This...is THE Emberchill, unless my eyes are cheated by some spell! spoiler above yo
Edward W.Fell |
That’s quite a find. Davosh, take the rod. Ali take the cloak, you could use the protection, and it’s a pretty cloak. The sickle should be Ali or Kappi. Though I do warn that if we keep the cloak, and the sickle it will be obvious to anyone who knew her that she met her demise at our hands. Davosh, is there anything you need harvested from the drake that will help your magic?.
GM thunderspirit |
my cloak of res is already +2...
The min-maxing munchkin in me will point out that this does more than the cloak itself, and would also free the shoulder slot for something else.
To shut the portal, you needed to travel through to Irrisen, and you were quested by the Black Rider to find Baba Yaga and stop Queen Elvanna from capturing all of Narnia Golarion. The portal took you to the frozen land of Nador, where they were forced to eat Sir Robin's minstrels Irrisen, where you met Nadya Petska and her little town of Anatevka Waldsby, whose troubles led you to the peak of the Pale Tower and a battle with Radosek Pavril, who evaded capture and fled. You were able to close the portal, saving Golarion from an icy fate but effectively stranding you in Irrisen.
With Nadya's help, you made you way across the tundra of Irrisen toward Whitethrone, the capital and home to the Witch Queen Elvanna, to meet her late husband's uncle Ringeirr and his extra-legal connections. Ringeirr bought you to Yavin IV the Shrine of the Everbloom, a site of hope and rebellion amidst Whitethrone's iron rule. First dealing with Logrivich, the dragon in Elvanna's employ, a coordinated uprising gave you the opportunity to delve into the Market Square in an effort to recapture Baba Yaga's Dancing Hut from its imprisonment there. A battle versus Nazhena Vasilliovna ensued, with Radosek reappearing (vanquished this time, although Nazhena escaped). You got inside the Hut and found several clues that would send the Hut elsewhere — though where was not entirely clear.
Passing the tests of the raven oracles allowed you to excape the Hut, and your mission is to follow the bread crumbs Baba Yaga has left behind to control her Hut, thus enabling her rescuers to use the Hut to retrace her steps and eventually find her. The clues provided by the ravens suggest that the giant statues of Artrosa are where the party must venture to find the next set of keys...if only they can find their way there.
On the way out of the Hut, the party met Ratibor the Bold, cursed by Baba Yaga herself some two centuries ago to guard the Hut against all intruders. Now in Iobaria in far-off Casmaron, The Hut helps them drive off would-be pillaging giants and leads to them a centaur hunting band, who take the adventurers to their leader within the Hoofwood.
Venturing into Deeprun Crevasse to Artrosa, the group finds a trio of vast statues — Maiden, Mother, and Crone — and delve inside, eventually emerging with the quizzical keys to allow the Hut to continue retracing the steps of the Witch Queen and thwart the ambitions of her fourteenth daughter. Nazhena harries them upon their return to the Hut, but they defeat her for good this time.
Edward, on the porch of the Hut, recalls what awaits on the other side of the entry.
Davosh the Wanderer |
Davosh takes the rod and looks at it carefully, testing the thorns for their sharpness, "Well this should ruin someone's day! Haha!"
He eventually steps up to the house. "Come now. Let us rest, prepare, and see where this key takes us!"
Edward W.Fell |
Hold for a moment Davosh. I feel the healing flowing through me. Lets wait a few minutes and take a moment to heal and set up for the fight with Ratibor the Bold. I would try to parley with him and come to an understanding that he can fight us, but not try to hard and we allow him to live, but I am pretty sure that will offend one of his highest held morals.
Ed will make sure everyone is healed as much as he can, and allow his fast healing to take care of him. I'm pretty sure that Vojtek will recover from rage fatigue before this healing is done, if not I will LoH on him to clear the fatigue.
Vojtek, Kappi, Ali I doubt that Ratibor will come out, so we will probably have to enter. I doubt he will charge out, so lets get our entry plan. That is unless anything that we picked up in Artrosa could free the barbarian from his imprisonment.
Davosh the Wanderer |
"Maybe we DON'T need to bring violence and bloodshed..." Davosh cogitates on a plan Arcana: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (20) + 16 = 36
GM thunderspirit |
Davosh the Wanderer |
"Edward. You tell that guardian that we can get him out, and I think I know the way. You guys might not like it. We're going to need to use something that both bears the frigid cold of winter and has tasted the blood of Jadwiga. Sorry everyone. I need that hammer."
Kappi Matarito |
"Edward. You tell that guardian that we can get him out, and I think I know the way. You guys might not like it. We're going to need to use something that both bears the frigid cold of winter and has tasted the blood of Jadwiga. Sorry everyone. I need that hammer."
Kappi looks slightly confused, Dont you mean the sickle?, the lad says as he idly swings Emberchill
Edward W.Fell |
Kappi I think Ojos Loco is going to use that sickle in some sort of ritual to remove the curse from Ratibor. Now you have a choice. We can remove that curse, or fight him, probably to the death. It seems you like the sickle so you have a choice I will stand with you on whatever you decide.
Davosh the Wanderer |
My bad. Adam had recently used the hammer in a different one shot. It was loaded into my mind's eye.
GM thunderspirit |
Kappi is reluctant to surrender the sickle made of ice, and Ali us saddened to see an artifact with such history, dark though it is, destroyed; but the prospect of freeing Ratibor without a fight is a strong lure.
With the cauldron of brewing in a roiling boil before him on the porch of the Hut, Davosh suddenly slumps over and his still-open eyes roll back into his head! It would be alarming, were it not for the fact that Liska emerges from the folds of his cloak and dashes about the tranced Warlock, grabbing sundry items from packs, pouches, and pockets, dropping them one by one into the brew.
At long last, the fox settles down and stares at Kappi, who stares back in curiosity and wonder for a few moments before a nudge from Vojtek reminds him that he still holds Emberchill. With a last look of regret, he deposits the ice sickle into the boiling stew,
In a flash of blue, it vanishes into the cauldron and Davosh snaps back from his comatose state, dipping a ladle into the soup. It is ready for Ratibor to drink, he says simply.
Now, how do you plan to accomplish that?
Davosh the Wanderer |
Tired, near delirious, Davosh snaps his head up, "DRINK! He must drink and see himself free! Edward, offer this up and speak truth to his opportunity!"
Edward W.Fell |
Ed gathers everyone in a group. Davosh this, this is truly magnificent, Kappi your sacrifice of Emberchill is magnanimous. Ali, Vojtek, this is the right thing to do, thank you for agreeing to this course of action. But until we know that Ratibor is amenable to this attempt at freedom, I suggest that you prepare for the worst. Prepare to switch to violence. May Apsu bless our actions and guide each of us along our proper path.
With the prayer over Ed takes a few moments to consider his words, while everyone prepares. When they are ready, he grasps his holy symbol. Apsu please allow my words to be coated with honey, Ratibor needs to be free. He strides to the door, and gives three hard raps with his gauntleted fist. The kind that you would give trying to wake a neighbor who's house is on fire.
KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!
Ed opens the door wide, but doesn't enter. "RATIBOR THE BOLD APPROACH SO WE CAN TALK. I have a feeling that you will enjoy what I have to discuss."
GM thunderspirit |
For some time the Hut remains silent, and all that can be heard about is the wind gently sweeping through the clearing and Vojtek's heavy breathing.
Edward knocks again, determined to give this entreaty every chance to avoid spilling blood.
It is only after the third knock, when all outside are getting a bit antsy, that an audible click can be heard and the entry to the Hut swings inward, revealing a disheveled Ratibor the Bold.
He takes note of the quintet on the porch and bellows, I was sleeping, little man! but his smile betrays his pleasure at seeing the group again. He gives a hearty laugh and moves to the very threshold of the Hut, though something prevents him from moving further. His shoulders slump a bit, but he recovers quickly enough: I would invite you in...but I have no wish to slay you. So I will not.
Davosh the Wanderer |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
"HA! There's no slaying to be done! HAHAHA! We've cut the Gordian knot. We've grabbed the wolf by the ears! We've polished the turd! We've moved the towers of Hanoi!"
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Ali blinks. That is EXACTLY what I was going to say!! With a smirk, she bows her head to the guardian. Ratibor, listen to what Edward has to say--he says true. No one dies today!
Edward W.Fell |
Well I hope you enjoyed your sleep in the nice warm hut, it may be the last time you do because I have an offer. I have an offer of freedom. What bold thing would Ratibor do for that to happen? Slay a mighty foe? Rescue his people? Risk himself for a treasure? Sure he would do all those things and more to be one with the open skies and clean cool crisp air again. So what do we ask for your freedom? Not much not much at all, all we ask is that you drink this potion brewed by Davosh the Wanderer using the magic of the Jadwiga. DRINK RATIBOR DRINK FOR THE FREEDOM OF YOUR SOUL, THE FREEDOM OF YOUR BODY, THE FREEDOM OF YOUR MIND!!!
Ed's gaze at Ratibor is intense, the stare shows his belief in his words and wishes. At the end of his plea Ed presents the potion to Ratibor's vision, but will only extend the arm and give it to him if he reaches for it.
GM thunderspirit |
Ratibor eyes Edward warily. What payment do you expect in return?
Edward W.Fell |
The oradin gets a small smile knowing that this would be a question.
Good question, very good question Ratibor. As you have witnessed, I am nothing if not honest. He pauses for a moment to see if there would be a reaction. None of us have discussed any kind of reciprocity from you. Besides we know why Baba Yaga confined you to her hut. You broke a deal with her, so instead of putting us and you in a position to have expectations that might be broke, we ask nothing. There is no quid pro quo here. I am doing this because it is the right thing to do and maybe, just maybe in the future you will remember the lesson of why you were subjugated, how you were freed, and choose to be a better person. I ask only one thing is that after you're free, that we have at least one conversation.
If he takes the potion, as Ed hands it over. He grasps Ratibor's hands and with an inspiring stare of a true believer. "You must believe in your freedom, keep that goal in your mind as you consume.
Davosh the Wanderer |
Nicely done you two
Davosh continues to mutter to himself, "grabbed the bull by the horns, given the halfling too much food, closed the Pathfinder Chronicle, knotted the octopus's tentacles, filled the kraken..."
He then snaps back to it, staring intently at Ratibor.
GM thunderspirit |
Ratibor stares at Edward a long while, trying to get the measure of the Oradin. Finally, after a long while, he speaks. You have shown a true heart before, little man, and have given me no reason to doubt your word. He reaches for the flask.
You must believe in your freedom, keep that goal in your mind as you consume.
I have thought of little else, during this eternity, he says, sniffing the potion and making a face. Ugh, damp feet, he mutters, closing his eyes and draining it in a single quaff.
Nothing happens — no burst of light, no chorus of celestial beings, nothing. Ratibor, wiping his mouth with a grimace, says ...well?
GM thunderspirit |
Ratibor looks at Ali quizzically, then takes a step forward, braced for resistance from the Hut.
He meets none, as he finds himself on the porch. Startled, he looks about, then lets out an exhilarated howl of laughter. Ha ha HA! He picks Ali up in a crushing bear hug, then drops her to the porch and does the same to Edward. Your magics have made me free! he says, twirling the Oradin about in euphoria. I shall teach your name to my children's children's childr—
Suddenly the Hut rises on its legs with a shudder, then bucks violently, sending Ratibor off a good forty feet away from it! Everyone needs a DC 24 Reflex save to avoid being tossed off as well and taking 6d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 4, 6, 3, 2) = 23 damage!
