Excellent Kappi, some older people say that youth is wasted on the young. I don’t think you are wasting yours. You are living life and exploring the world. You’re experiencing things that many dream about, but few get to do. Don’t let your age impede your boldness. Take this life and live it to the fullest.

Davosh:
You can tell that Ed was expecting a longer “lesson”, but there seems to be a little relief that Davosh didn’t get deep into the Zon-Kuthon example. Ha! Well ok that’s an acceptable answer. But it does beg the question if all the winter witches come here, or if it’s only Baba Yaga’s daughters that have to go through the test. Is there a way to use this place to our advantage? Ed’s musings ramble for a few seconds before they just exist in his head.

As Edward finishes his final rambling thought, he feels a YANK, a physical one this time, as Vojtek gives the rope a massive tug and pulls him halfway up in one draw. The ring of feather fall reactivates as Edward feels the rope slack again, then another YANK and is out of the deeper darkness, near the top of the Eon Pit. Another slack and another YANK and Edward is a few feet up in the air and floats gently to the ground afterward.

A mere heartbeat later, Jadrenka appears in the party's midst unbidden, again leaning heavily on her staff. Slayers of giants and the centaur lord, to whom is owed their hoard! Forgive my test before, but Jadrenka needed to be very sure. Jadrenka's oath is very clear, naught but my words could lead you here!

She holds her wizened hand out and opens it. In her palm is a small nugget of gold. In my hands, so meek — the key you seek!

As Ed lands on the floor, he begins to set his life links again when it's interrupted by the appearance of the elder lady. His hand darts for his sword, until he realizes that this isn't a confrontational encounter.

Why thank you Jadrenka I can understand your caution. What was the centaur lord doing here? Are centaur's witches also?

He waits for an answer, and replies accordingly, but eventually he asks Jadrenka another question and a favor.

Jadrenka the three sisters have other unwanted guests, like a demon spider, and it seems that we have stumbled our way through the sisters with no way to move between the three. Would you have a map of this place? Would you be able to share with us how to move to and from Mother Maiden and Crone?. I would like to make sure this place will be cleaned up for Baba Yaga's return.

Same as the last time Kappi saw Jadrenka, the lad immediately turns very subdued. He remembers his grandmother's stories about such creatures and how they should be respected.
Looking down at the floor the lad comes down to one knee before the small wizened creature. Please Old Jadrenka, we need your help. When Kappi says "old" he makes it a title. With all respect due to one who has earned the wisdom to live/survive for so long.

The party re-enters the lair of the bebelith.

It is no less forbidding this time than last.

    reminder text:
The ceiling of this cavernous chamber extends off into the inky blackness, beyond the illumination provided by the everburning torch. A forest of stalactites jut from that ceiling, though their base is invisible so the rogue cannot judge the size or depth of them. Several stalagmites rise from the floor as well, most with their tops shorn off. At the far edge of Kappi's light to the north and west, he can see shapes of white crisscrossing about the place — webs, maybe? Hard to tell. A flight of steps rises into the gloom near the entrance as...

The dark blue arachnid emerges at the edge of the torch's light, emitting a horrible, ear-splitting SCREECH as its razor-edged front claws, bristling with wicked barbs, snap and grasp in the air in anticipation! You hear a dreadful, horrifying voice in your head, rather like an alarm gong crossed with the sound of bricks scraping against one another!

    Round 1

The Varisian lad stifles a cry of terror at the sight of the terrifying arachnid. Knowing his friends are counting on him to do his part Kappi sprints up the far side of the room and crouches next to the stalagmite. He hopes they can maybe lure the creature away from the webs abit. At least enough to be able to set up a flank.

(I'm jumping the gun a bit, since I suddenly find myself in "my own battle"...I'll deal with the swarm, you guys go after the biggun)

Ali swats at the festering creepers, managing to hold her calm and her nerve...but she already feels the effects of the poison from the bites they've inflicted.

As she sifts away from the creepers, a streak of white catches her eye--Ed's first arrow, doubly blessed with Aspu's power. She sees the bolt sink to the fletching into one of the huge beast's eyes, and she gives a shout of glee OUCH!! (is there ANYthing like critting with an arrow on a SMITE?!?!?!)

She then turns her attention to the problem at hand. Reaching her left hand to the rod at her waist, she points her flaming sword at the swarm. The flames gout into a fan, engulfing the wee beasties in red-hot fury. Then, she grabs her sword in 2 hands, and swings the flaming blade with abandon--hoping to dissipate the swarm quickly!!

Ali remembers that the bebelith spider swarm is fiendish, and thus resistant to fire!

...but not resistant enough to that much fire! The swarm dissipates! She feels the burning sensation of the poison, but no time to focus on that now...

Though slightly terrified, the rogue is moving a little too fast to really think about it. One tiny part of his mindbrain thinks that he should be more scared but perhaps its the insane amount of enchantments he is under is giving him the extra courage. Even though none of the enchantments are supposed to give him extra bravery...

The rest of his brain isnt thinking at all. Kappi feels as if his entire body is buzzing with energy. Its almost painful to stand still. He crouched for half a heart beat behind a stalagmite, but then he is sprinting toward the rear of the gigantic spider with his magic short sword.

One other small part of his brain really really hopes Vojtek will join him in direct battle with the spider. He doesnt think he can hold on too long by himself.

After swatting away the last of the fiendish spiders, Ali looks up to see Kappi & Vojtek team up on the huge beast. More arrows fly, sticking deep into the monsters's carapace, and Davosh was sending waves of energy through his eerie cackling.

Now THIS is how it's SUPPOSED to go...

She gives a fierce grin, and prepares to charge the giant spider herself, picking a spot next to the barbarian to help take it down. First, she touches the rod in her belt, again pointing her flaming blade to her target, and four bolts of energy fly in a comet-like streak to hit the thing. The then slaps her hand onto the crosspiece, infusing it with more energy, so that the bright flames take on a greenish tint with black highlights coursing throughout. With a scream of defiance, five sword-wielding elves charge the spider!

Kappi gets a full attack in, using Vojtek as a distraction! His first blow lands into the beast's abdomen, and a viscous, green-black ichor sprays over him, causing his second blow to flail against nothing but air! Re-centering, the Varisian lad sees his opening, thrusting his shortsword deep into the belly of the bebelith, its blessing from Edward dealing full damage. With a hideous, blood-curdling shriek, the mammoth arachnid shudders and collapses on the floor of the chamber!
