Ali has learned her lesson from before..."don't rush in first." But this is not like before; she has protective spells in place, and the rest of the crew is ready with missiles & magic. Vojtek is bravely standing against both giants, and she will not stand back firing arrows when she COULD be charging her sword with much mightier magic and helping him stay alive.

Nodding to herself, she takes advantage of the fact that one of the giants has swung on Kappi. She draws her sword while moving in, accepting the swing from the other giant.

a 1 hits Ali: 1d7 ⇒ 2

One of her images winks out, and she grins, blowing the giant a kiss.

She then plants her feet standing shoulder to shoulder with the barbarian. Her hand passes over her blade, and blue-black magic courses up the weapon. With a screech of defiance, she then swings at Blue.

Spellstrike: Vampiric Touch

attack: 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 10 + 2 + 1 = 26
damage: 1d10 + 4 + 4d6 ⇒ (2) + 4 + (6, 6, 4, 6) = 28

The swing is solid, but barely nicks the giant's thigh...but the magical energy courses up its leg, feeding into its belly, then pulses back into a wave of energy that courses up the elf's arms.

NOW we'll take these things down, barbarian!!

Davosh's eye sparks with bedevilment and the faintest whiff of burnt ozone trails behind the swinging axe. Where it might have cloven Vojtek in twain, its edge instead merely brushed against his gaping shoulder wound before clanging into the stone floor.

The giant is taken aback that the little man yet lives, and feels the bite of Vojtek's own axe and teeth as the barbarian counters. Vojtek leaps to his feet, head swimming with pain and fury, and launches into a series of axe attacks of his own, punctuated by his signature gnashing teeth!

After Ed swats Vojtek the second time on the rump, Vojtek feels the spring in his step, and takes point while the redhead waits.

  • Okay, we're at another impasse. THIS direction is obviously "Forward." We aren't ready, I don't think anyway. So we have the advantage slightly here and now to go in. Large room is good for us. We also could try the bebilith again. I see 2 options: abandon this path now, go back and finish off the bebilith and that that path. OR we try this fight, and STILL go back before we go forward.

I was considering having Kappi do awkward acrobatics into the room. He has evasion and a good reflex save.

The Varisian rogue bounces lightly on the balls of his feet. He holds his sh sword and his favorite tomahawk in his left. He glances at the others and is a heartbeat away from rushing into the next room to spring whatever trap awaits.

There is always a stealth roll.

I’m not in favor of going back, I can’t see the RP way to do it. The belbith would have more spiders and more of a web now. We can prepare for that, but if I was the BBEG in the next room, I would harry us if we retreated.

The rogue starts to sprint through the door and half way thru he remembers to use “evasive action”. It looks like he may have tripped but manages a roll and a very ungainly round off and then he is back on his feet...

To the southeast in this vast cavern, the ceiling of which rises some fifty feet above, a ring of towering black basalt menhirs surround a great gaping pit torn into the cavern floor. Spiraling runes etched in white chalk cover the faces of the standing stones, which are painted with fresh blood. The bodies of two frost giants lie on the floor outside the ring. A border of countless skulls, both human and animal, surrounds the pit. A break in the border forms an entrance leading to the edge of the pit. There, a flight of stone steps carved into the perimeter descends into the abyss. The air above the pit seems to waver and ripple as if from heat.

As Kappi springs into the cavern, a ferocious roar can be heard, along with some muttered words in Giantish, this last emerging from a tremendously muscled centaur with a wicked-looking hammer. The roar comes from a hulking creature with the lower body of a massive stallion with eight thick legs, with the trunk of a muscled humanoid with icy blue skin and a prodigious white beard rimed with ice and piercing blue eyes glaring from beneath beetled brows and a spiraling pair of horns which curl upward.

    Giantish:
    Good...good...Kostchtchie (KOSH-tik-ti-kai) is pleased by your soon-to-be-sacrifice!

    DC 21 Kn (nature):
The eight-legged monstrosity is a svathurim, thoroughly wicked servants of the frost giant gods. They are monstrous humanoids with the cold subtype (thus, immune to cold and vulnerable to fire).

    DC 26 Kn (nature):
Svathurims have a devastating trample attack that can deafen some.

    DC 31 Kn (nature):
Svathurims can actually ride through the air when charging or taking a double move action.

can someone please Kappi south/west (diagonal) two squares?

    Round 1

The Varisian rogue looks a little nervous at the mighty foe. Kappi giggles for the tiniest moment thinking it looks like the offspring of a centaur and Sleipnir.
Then he darts to the side and hurls a precious alchemical fire.

    Throwing attack 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26
    Molotov 2d6 ⇒ (5, 2) = 7

Five-star Hound of Tindalos. Er, GM. Whatever. | RoW Encounter Map | A Fistful of Flowers slides

I suspect Kappi will want to stay out of the svathurim's reach, so should only move one square west and take the range increment penalty, which will still more than hit the touch AC.

    DC 15 Refl: 1d20 + 12 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 12 - 4 = 21
The fire is very effective, but the svathurim does not ignite!

Bellowing with rage, the monstrous humanoid steps forward and gives Kappi his undivided attention!

    lance primary: 1d20 + 22 - 3 ⇒ (17) + 22 - 3 = 36
    dmg: 2d6 + 15 ⇒ (5, 4) + 15 = 24

    lance secondary: 1d20 + 17 - 3 ⇒ (2) + 17 - 3 = 16
    dmg: 2d6 + 15 ⇒ (1, 6) + 15 = 22

    lance tertiary: 1d20 + 12 - 3 ⇒ (8) + 12 - 3 = 17
    dmg: 2d6 + 15 ⇒ (2, 3) + 15 = 20

    gore attack: 1d20 + 16 - 3 ⇒ (12) + 16 - 3 = 25
    dmg: 2d6 + 12 ⇒ (2, 4) + 12 = 18

    hoof 1: 1d20 + 16 - 3 ⇒ (10) + 16 - 3 = 23
    dmg: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18

    hoof 2: 1d20 + 16 - 3 ⇒ (12) + 16 - 3 = 25
    dmg: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11

Kappi falls to the floor under the svathurim's onslaught! The final attack would not take place because Kappi would fall after the first hoof, so Kappi is unconscious at -2 by my math. He will likely stabilize automatically, and likely wake up, when Edward's lifelink kicks in.

Ali gasps at seeing Kappi taken down with such violence, but she bites down on the gasp & keeps her head. She calls up on her arcane reserves (use 3 arcane pool points to recall Haste), and steps a little closer. She holds her left hand up in an arcane claw, ready to cast her spell as soon as Edward moves closer...

ED! Come next to me if you want to be Hastened! Or else tell me to cast it now...

My intention is to ready Haste for when Ed is close enough that I can get all of us-which is just behind me. I could get everyone but Ed now, but we may need all the help we can get. Can I ready to cast haste if Ed EITHER moves closer to me, or says "never mind, cast it now?" Or do I have to pick one?

Since I can’t manipulate the map from my phone or ipad someone please move me to next to Vojtek which is where I was before we started this combat, then move Vojtek next to the door where he was “Stacked w/ Kappi for dynamic entry” This was all done before Kappi went into the room. That is if DMTS allows it.

So this should end the Rogue Tank experiment. Stealth or Meat Shield are a rogues fortune.
