Ali has learned her lesson from before..."don't rush in first." But this is not like before; she has protective spells in place, and the rest of the crew is ready with missiles & magic. Vojtek is bravely standing against both giants, and she will not stand back firing arrows when she COULD be charging her sword with much mightier magic and helping him stay alive.
Nodding to herself, she takes advantage of the fact that one of the giants has swung on Kappi. She draws her sword while moving in, accepting the swing from the other giant.
a 1 hits Ali: 1d7 ⇒ 2
One of her images winks out, and she grins, blowing the giant a kiss.
She then plants her feet standing shoulder to shoulder with the barbarian. Her hand passes over her blade, and blue-black magic courses up the weapon. With a screech of defiance, she then swings at Blue.
Spellstrike: Vampiric Touch
attack: 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 10 + 2 + 1 = 26
damage: 1d10 + 4 + 4d6 ⇒ (2) + 4 + (6, 6, 4, 6) = 28
The swing is solid, but barely nicks the giant's thigh...but the magical energy courses up its leg, feeding into its belly, then pulses back into a wave of energy that courses up the elf's arms.
gain 22 temp hp
NOW we'll take these things down, barbarian!!

RAGING VOJTEK!!!! |
Round the Third
Vojtek slashes indiscriminately, steel and teeth are thrown into gruesome service with abandon. The giant's blood in his mouth and his own blood flowing freely down his arm combine to heighten his insane bloodlust as he attacks the giant yet again!

As the primordial growling scream pierced Ed's ears, he knew the plan had changed. His Barbarian was angry, and wasn't going to leave the room.
Ed's hastened movement allowed him to round the corner under the floating witch with ease. The long bow snapped into firing position as he felt the healing energy leaving his body. Ed calmed his breathing, and the arrow left his cheek as soon as the firing position was complete.

Davosh cackles maniacally. "Company is coming!" The Speaker to Ancients then grabs his left supinated wrist with his right hand. He wiggles his fingers as his Big Eye opens. A field of writhing black, rubbery tentacles erupts from the floor!
CMB: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13 The tentacles miss their mark, but the field is difficult to maneuver, even for a frost giant. Difficult terrain now, so no 5' stepping for the giant, and should slow down back up.

With one giant down Kappi becomes a little more brave. Knowing he can do more damage with his magic sword he draws as he plunges forward. Aware of the long reach of the giant the Varisian moves in curving, arcing, darting, lines and angles. It is vaguely reminiscent of the Varisian dances but there is just something about Kappi’s movements that make it look horribly awkward and twitchy.

RAGING VOJTEK!!!! |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Round the Fourth
The enormous strength of the Giant's first blow drives Vojtek to his knees involuntarily, and the Northman is nearly crushed beneath the massive axe. Its dull and chipped blade sprays gore as the giant wrenches it out of Vojtek's shoulder muscle to line up another swing.
Davosh's eye sparks with bedevilment and the faintest whiff of burnt ozone trails behind the swinging axe. Where it might have cloven Vojtek in twain, its edge instead merely brushed against his gaping shoulder wound before clanging into the stone floor.
The giant is taken aback that the little man yet lives, and feels the bite of Vojtek's own axe and teeth as the barbarian counters. Vojtek leaps to his feet, head swimming with pain and fury, and launches into a series of axe attacks of his own, punctuated by his signature gnashing teeth!
Great Axe: 1d20 + 17 - 3 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 17 - 3 + 1 + 2 = 35 for Damage: 1d12 + 12 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 12 + 9 + 1 = 34

Vojtek flurriously hacks into and bites at Green, who nevertheless withstands the onslaught!
Kappi nimbly avoids the giant's swing at his head as he ducks out of the way and lands a blow with his shortsword right in Green's heart. Blood gushes forth as the frost giant crumples to the floor in a lifeless heap!
Out of combat!
A quick check of the bodies reveals only mundane, Large-sized equipment.
Davosh the Wanderer |

I don’t have time to do the math right now, but I will use the CLW wand and play wackamole with it to help heal faster, or if Davosh can use the wackamole wand while I blow a few channels would probably work faster. My Life Link on Ali, Kappi, and Vojtek will continue to run. Does anyone have a Light, spell that can counteract the darkness? Also, if this room is high, and we know someone who has magic in there we should be wary of a flying opponent. DM Can anyone make a know check to see if we know this Veselvod person?

Okay, we're at another impasse. THIS direction is obviously "Forward." We aren't ready, I don't think anyway. So we have the advantage slightly here and now to go in. Large room is good for us. We also could try the bebilith again. I see 2 options: abandon this path now, go back and finish off the bebilith and that that path. OR we try this fight, and STILL go back before we go forward.

I was considering having Kappi do awkward acrobatics into the room. He has evasion and a good reflex save.
The Varisian rogue bounces lightly on the balls of his feet. He holds his sh sword and his favorite tomahawk in his left. He glances at the others and is a heartbeat away from rushing into the next room to spring whatever trap awaits.

There is always a stealth roll.
I’m not in favor of going back, I can’t see the RP way to do it. The belbith would have more spiders and more of a web now. We can prepare for that, but if I was the BBEG in the next room, I would harry us if we retreated.
GM thunderspirit |
That sounds like enough votes for "forward."

To the southeast in this vast cavern, the ceiling of which rises some fifty feet above, a ring of towering black basalt menhirs surround a great gaping pit torn into the cavern floor. Spiraling runes etched in white chalk cover the faces of the standing stones, which are painted with fresh blood. The bodies of two frost giants lie on the floor outside the ring. A border of countless skulls, both human and animal, surrounds the pit. A break in the border forms an entrance leading to the edge of the pit. There, a flight of stone steps carved into the perimeter descends into the abyss. The air above the pit seems to waver and ripple as if from heat.
As Kappi springs into the cavern, a ferocious roar can be heard, along with some muttered words in Giantish, this last emerging from a tremendously muscled centaur with a wicked-looking hammer. The roar comes from a hulking creature with the lower body of a massive stallion with eight thick legs, with the trunk of a muscled humanoid with icy blue skin and a prodigious white beard rimed with ice and piercing blue eyes glaring from beneath beetled brows and a spiraling pair of horns which curl upward.

I suspect Kappi will want to stay out of the svathurim's reach, so should only move one square west and take the range increment penalty, which will still more than hit the touch AC.

Since I can’t manipulate the map from my phone or ipad someone please move me to next to Vojtek which is where I was before we started this combat, then move Vojtek next to the door where he was “Stacked w/ Kappi for dynamic entry” This was all done before Kappi went into the room. That is if DMTS allows it.
So this should end the Rogue Tank experiment. Stealth or Meat Shield are a rogues fortune.

If this is the case, everyone shoudl be close together enough for a Haste, no ready required.
