Vojtek Wartooth |
Ok amend my previous possibility... 3 riders, one of whom we spoke with. His name was Black Midnight.
Davosh the Wanderer |
Davosh strides right up to the tree and drills it with his Big Eye. "Illarion Matveius. You want me to say it again, louder, or slower?"
Davosh the Wanderer |

The tree's wicked grin fades at once when Davosh gives the name of Illarion Matveius. It falls silent, and only the wind can be heard for several seconds.
Then, almost in a whisper, it utters, ץ๏ย ๓คץ קครร.

Davosh strides forth boldly, pleased with the combined knowledge of the party. He wiggles his fingers a bit and casts some dancing lights ahead.
It's been a while since being in a dungeon proper. I suggest the following marching order:
Dancing Lights 25' ahead of Kappi when possible
Sneaking Kappi
Vojtek
Edward
Davosh
Ali
Kappi Matarito |
The Varisian lad is kinda happy to be back in a dungeon. There is something about the challenge and the higher possibility to find really cool treasure...
Kappi sneaks forward scouting for the party.
Stealth 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (11) + 17 = 28
Perception 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (19) + 14 = 33
GM thunderspirit |
A wooden portal some thirty feet in from the opening beyond the witch tree is carved with the image of a pretty young woman. The door is slightly ajar, with a dim purple light glowing from behind it. Kappi, his face flushed as he tries not to make eye contact with the engraved lass, shoves the door open to reveal a flight of winding stone stairs descending into the black basalt of the cliff.
Carvings on either side of the stair passage depict wide fields filled with wildflowers and springing deer. The steps descend perhaps 500 feet in total, their final turn opening into a large, rectangular chamber hewn from the surrounding basalt. The walls are chiseled and etched into an incredibly intricate display of thousands of wildflowers. Central to each carving is the image of a wreath of pinecones encircling a life-sized carving of a young woman in the nude. On one wall, the figure washes her hair; on another, she reclines while staring upward at a crescent moon; On a third, the figure picks a bouquet of flowers; and on the fourth, she points to a triangular, knot-shaped symbol. An open archway leads out opposite the winding stair to the outside.
In the corner, slumped over and locked in a furious whispered debate with itself, is a massive two-headed woman who does not yet appear to have noticed Kappi's intrusion. The Varisian does not understand the language, but recognizes the two-headed giant as an ettin, and one head is clearly unhappy with the other.
Davosh the Wanderer |
"Tell me everything in detail!" Davosh tries to get a feel for the creature's type from the description. Knowledge (Various): 1d20 ⇒ 9 Character sheet for specific types..
Kappi Matarito |
At the bottom of the steps the lad was absolutely smitten by the beautiful nude carvings. He was happy to get the chance to appreciate their beauty without anyone else there to judge his looks. Mind already askitter from the lovely stone nakedness, he couldn't help thinking strange things about the two headed woman in the corner. She was slumped down and Kappi couldn't get a clear look at her. If she has two heads, is there anything else she has double of... His keen eyes were unable to get a good look to see if she had a double bosum, then his eyes and mind looked lower and the possibility of such a thing blew the young lad's mind
He barely managed his stealth under such a mind assault, he stumbled back up the stairs to report to Davosh. He did his best to answer the witch's questions. Though not overly bright, the lad was usually good at delivering excellent scouting reports. But he was too distracted. He pulled Davosh to the side away from Ali's sharp ears and then with a bit of embarrassment, away from the Paladin's as well. He whispered Davosh, there is a giant two headed woman... an ettin I think. Davosh recognized the lad's nervousness in a dozen small tells, the largest of which was retying his head scarf. The lad couldn't meet Davosh's eyes but asked his dreaded thought in the barest of whispers Davosh... she has two heads. Is there anything else she could have that would be... you know... doubled? He sweeps his hand down vaguely below his waistline I mean, uhhh... like could she have two pus... The lad can't finish the sentence and in horrible embarrassment he immediately begins checking his weapons and doing his best to answer pertinent scouting report questions.
GM thunderspirit |
His description is rather odd, however: no massive club or weapon readily visible; no piecemeal armor; and Kappi's casual, distracted reference to a sleeping pig nearby, when Davosh knows that most ettins are voracious (the result of two heads) and wouldn't have a pet pig.
Davosh the Wanderer |
"It's a weird ettin my boy. Let's try talking. Weird might mean it'll parlay. You stay hidden though, just in case. Get into a good spot."
GM thunderspirit |
Sorry, I had missed this.
Kappi Matarito |
Stealth 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (20) + 17 = 37
Perception 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25
The Varisian lad sneaks back downstairs and stay hidden in the shadows while the other party members try to parcely? or something like that. Kappi keeps his sh sword bared under his cloak and tries NOT to think about double bosums or other amazing things.
The lad also tries to keep his mind clear for any hidden threats.
GM thunderspirit |
Okay, so Kappi uses Stealth downstairs, and seems unnoticed by the ettin. If the rest of you are heading down as well, I'll need Stealth checks (or something that prevents needing one) from everyone.
Davosh the Wanderer |
Davosh tries to quietly work his way down, but before he does, he loads Liska up with a spell.... just in case. Bestow Curse
Stealth Davosh: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Stealth Liska: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
GM thunderspirit |
Yeah, a 7 Stealth won't cut it. LOL
Davosh drops Liska to the floor and casts a spell, then slips on the second step and tumbles down, stopping just short of a wide-eyed Ali. He is unhurt, though bruised.
It is enough to alert the ettin below, however, who roars in fury and springs to her feet!
Ali: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Davosh: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Edward: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Kappi: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

I don't remember Davosh's check, if I even made one: Knowledge (Local): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (12) + 16 = 28. Lowest attribute? (ad how low if you think Davosh would "know."

Adam is traveling I think. He got botted in another game, so I'll bot him here.
While not a dragon, Vojtek revels in a foe so much more massive than himself. With a roar that sounds closer to a dragon than a man, he leaps over the railing at the bottom of the stairs and flies into a rage as he closes with the giant(s).
With axe in hand he tries to chop the foe down to size before the battle even begins.
Rage. Power Attack with Great Axe: 1d20 + 15 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 15 - 2 = 32 for 1d12 + 11 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 11 + 6 = 23 damage.

With a shriek emitting from both heads that blends fury and pain, the left head glares at Votjek!

GM thunderspirit |
I'll rule that Ali needs to be in the square directly right of her pog to make the jump. She'll need to make a DC 10 Acrobatics check to land on her feet, but I won't impose any penalty to movement.

Longbow+PBS : 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 7 + 1 = 17

Is it wierd that the thought popped into my head wondering what the spell unnatural lust would do to an ettin?

- Round the Third
- Current HPs: 93/93
Vojtek's bloodlust burns unabated. The Ettin's flesh invites his blade, his teeth... and as the barbarian's disfigured face veers toward the foe with jaws agape, he hacks and coughs from deep within his corrupted chest. From his roaring maw a puff of misty air with the unexpected addition of a few glittering snowflakes swirling in his chilly expectoration.
The man himself takes no note, so berserk is he with rage. Davosh too seems to make no conscious note of the phenomenon, yet The Eye swivels sharply toward the chill portent of things to come and with a fiercely intent focus, narrows slightly.
The greataxe rises and falls. Blood fountains with stunning violence. The axe swings again, but the giantesses had pulled back slightly at the grievous wound's infliction.
Vojtek holds his ground, too to toe with the brobdingnagian foe. For the time being, eyes locked on the soft spot where the two necks meet.
Vojtek seethes in anticipation of his next tactical opening. He shrugs his shoulders uncomfortably as his scapulae rub raw against the confines of his armor...
Great Axe: 1d20 + 17 - 3 ⇒ (19) + 17 - 3 = 33 for Damage: 1d12 + 12 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 12 + 9 = 27
Great Axe: 1d20 + 17 - 3 - 5 ⇒ (16) + 17 - 3 - 5 = 25 for Damage: 1d12 + 12 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 12 + 9 = 29
And Wartooth Gnash!: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13 for 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 damage.
DMTS - Hopefully no objection to foreshadowing Vojtek's future breath weapon! No in-game effects of course. I was reading about where he's going as I was leveling him up and I got excited. :)

Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |
Dhoh! Confirm:
the good news is: Greataxe does TRIPLE on a crit. Bad news is, it only threatens on a 20, not a 19.
Ali feels the first hex wash over her, but the second one takes hold, and she feels an unaccustomed tremor in her sword-arm. Nevertheless, she closes with the giant, standing shoulder to shoulder with Vojtek as she swings.
attack: 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 10 - 2 = 28 <--threat!
