"There is something else I might be able to do. Since Geatan took down Adril Hestram so quickly, I still have much power I can expend. I could summon a small group of succubi, each of which is able to attempt to put Adril Hestram under their will for a time. If even one of them succeeds, I can make them force Adril Hestram to submit to a casting of a baleful polymorph spell. A worm would be appropriate, I think. I have a jar in which I grow some herbs for spell components. I could use a worm to till the soil in it."
I can use my bonded item and my prepared spells to summon 2d3+1 succubi in total. Each has a DC23 dominate person. If one of them succeeds, she can force Adril Hestram to willingly fail the saves for my baleful polymorph spell.
In reaction to Ralph's discussion, Shemis says, "There is no reason to resort to such evil acts, is there? I have seen what this will do to you, Ralph Cauthorn, and it is a path far more destructive than the one Adril Hestram has taken.
"The Decemverite has ways to deal with ones such as this. They can be.... stored... for an eternity, to be used by the Society when the time is right. Such was the case of the.., guards... I released. I do apologize if they lacked discretion.... I did not have time to.. prepare them properly."
She looks around the room, at the fallen, then to Hestram. "This one escaped my visions for a time... how I do not know. But I can see clearly now, the threat is gone. " The scenes on the dome switch to the events leading up to this fight, highlighting the team's adventures, save for a few a single raptor flying towards Skyreach as fast as it can; Eliza Petalengro looking flustered in a jungle none of you recognize, Venture-Captains Ambrus Valsin and Drandle Dreng and three Masters fighting their way past violent criminals freed by Hestram.
"The others are coming... It is finally over.." she gently touches the cheek of Koraq, "You don't have to fight any more. "
Then, walking to Géatan, "The betrayals are done, mighty bowman. "
Then to Auris, "and you can return to your gardens, gentle one, and your beer hall. "
Finally, to Ralph, she looks, as if not knowing what to say...
GM: That is completely appropriate!
Ralph chuckles softly and humourlessly.
"If you have effective ways to contain the traitor, then I will of course leave him to your devices. Whatever you think of my methods, the Decemvirate has always known that I am ultimately a pragmatist. Taking everything into account, let us just be satisfied that we are all on the same side, and that it is our side that has triumphed."
His lips turn into a wry smile, a hint of mirth finally showing on his face.
"And we both know that the Decemvirate is never short on tasks that require one who is as... flexible... with his methods as I am."
This is something I told the previous GM. I deliberately play Ralph as an amoral pragmatist. It is intended that he come across as a little disturbing. My friend and I made two characters that were meant to be moral foils to each other. This has been an exploration of what happens when Ralph's paladin-friend is not around to rein him in. If you know the name Raistlin Majere, you know the inspiration for Ralph's character.
Ralph is not a guy I would like to meet in real life, but if I knew him in real life I would want to make sure I never piss him off. If the portrayal of Ralph has made any of you just a little uncomfortable, I have succeeded. If he has made you too uncomfortable, I (meaning Sean the player) apologize while Ralph chuckles coldly in the background.
Knowing that Ralph have more bark than bite, Géatan don't reacts at the mage's creepy suggestions. Instead, he falls on his knees and drops his bow. Tears flowed into his face.
" It is really finished? Really? Oh thanks Erastil! It was such a lonely path sometimes.
Realising the identify of the "pathfinders", the archer feels like a burden get out." Criminals... that mean I am not a kinslayer isn't it?
Shemis... You may know all of us but could you explain what is this place, who you are and why are you here? I feel like you are in the center of the Society and the rest of "the ten" was... more ordinary i say."
"Yes, Ralph, sometimes we do have need of such types. Which is why we have the Vault. For Pathfinders too dangerous to leave out in the world, too valuable to destroy." explains Shemis. "Please, do not make yourself on of these."
To Géatan, she says, "Depends on what you mean by kinslayer. Woaltag, Ferocleus, Pycerat, and Valicia are, or were, all Pathfinders, but dangerous ones. I... activated... them, as a line of desperate last defense, knowing they would try and kill anyone they ran into."
"I understand. You had no way to talk to us." responds Gaétan with a smile.
And that is pretty stupid, i say, he thinks.I mean, obviously Raven knew about this place and could have tell us about you. You are like a spectator and you should guide us.
"I feel pretty old now. It seem that my training the society gived me is now desuet. I wonder if, after this almost fiasco, i am still of use for the society."
AR update. I need to change the archétype of Géatan.
