Ralph Cauthorn |
"Ah, clockwork golems is it? I remember reading a thesis about them once, about how a weaker elemental spirit could be used to power a golem if the movements were made more efficient by using clockwork systems. The overall result is a little less sturdy and also less powerful, but the designer sought to turn that into an advantage by increasing articulation in the fingers, making it easier to grab an opponent, and by adding a serrated edge to the gears so that a grappled target can be held against the gears to grind the flesh. They are in most other regards quite similar to your standard iron golem. They seemed capable enough when I attended the live demonstration, but this is my first time seeing one in un-moderated combat."
Ralph idly muses as he observes the clockwork system that drives the golems' movements... until he notices how quickly Geatan is pelting it with adamantine.
"Oh yes, I should mention that when they are destroyed they have an unfortunate tendency to explode and send their serrated gears flying in every direction. A side-effect of their construction, though their designer claimed it to be an intended feature. Nonetheless, do watch out for it," Ralph adds as he withdraws behind the wall.

On a similar note, I will be gone from June 1 to June 13th or so. May be able to post via wayfinder occasionally, but doing some camping during part of the time so can't say for sure.
And a Nat 1 before I get to act GM? Trying to get me killed before I do something again? lol
Koraq looks with a dumb-founded face as he asks, "Whaddya mean explodes?", before Geatan's arrows show him what the wizard meant; only natural skill prevents him from being completely blasted by the wave of shrapnel.

Well... Sorry Koraq!says Géatan.Well. That a pretty place and very interesting. But i will concur about our need to hurry.
Ralph Cauthorn |
"Interesting. The blast radius was smaller than I'd previously observed. Perhaps after the incident with his apprentice the designer thought the 'feature' a little too hazardous and found a way to contain the effect a little. I shall have to requisition the remains for study when this is over. Ah the things to learn in this place! But we must also hurry if we are to catch Hestram. Onward then?"
Ralph will tap Koraq with his wand of infernal healing to help his recovery, but otherwise will urge the party on.
Still remaining invisible.

Auris moves up to see the room through the opening. The granite walls of this narrow chamber are mounted with metal plates supporting huge iron gears, all turning slowly, churning an array of chains, belts, cogs, and other devices. The west section of the chamber opens into a wider, clover- shaped chamber to the south, its walls armored in bronze and copper plates. Copper nozzles protrude from between the plates, dripping black grease. The grease stains the floor beneath in pools of scintillating rainbow.
There is nothing of value to be found here
You then go through the double doors into a hallway.
Where to next? There is a passage to the west, and doors to the east.
Ralph Cauthorn |
Ralph reactivates his ring of invisibility more out of habit than necessity.
"Perhaps we should check the passage first. The door should serve as a natural check against surprise encounters."

Still on vacation until the 12th, although I will have better reception from the 7th - 11th, barring that I can't update the map on my phone.

A metal-reinforced door hangs loosely, bashed open and dangling from a single hinge. A short hall opens into a small, rectangular room. The walls within are scarred and gouged. Gears, scrap metal, and other remnants of mechanical contraptions lie recklessly strewn about. Many of the scattered metal parts possess slightly anthropomorphic features. A fair amount of blood is splattered about the walls, floors, and ceiling.
Auris Deftfoot |
"Looks like you were already here, Koraq." Auris quips, doing a quick scan. "Nothing left back this way."
Géatan Émond |
"Well, i wonder what are doing the other agents. Next Room."Says Géatan.

GM..Silbeg |
The team gets ready by the eastern doors, which are covered with metal plates engraved with strange glyphs. An engraving above the entrance reads “The Numerian.” The non-magical glyphs are artistic renditions of various Numerian symbols. Arranged for aesthetics only, they do not say anything.
Auris does not believe that the door is trapped, nor is it locked. However, the door does not budge when he tries to open it.
Auris active trap search: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (16) + 26 = 42

"Koraq, I think you might need to get the door. It's not working with me." Auris says, stepping to one side.
Géatan Émond |
Gaétan waits for Koraq. And remind auris of the one way Mirror.
GM Aram Zey |
If Geatan has a one way mirror, Ralph will suggest that the group wait for him to use it. Still invisible.
Auris Deftfoot |
A light slap sounds as the halfling's palm meets his forehead. "I really need to keep better track of our gear." he mutters, digging through his pack. "Ah, here we are." Withdrawing the mirror, he places it against the door to begin viewing the opposite side.
Koraq Dragonclaw |
Rats, sorry! Just got back from vacation yesterday and work now.
Let me know if I need to bust a door down still
Koraq starts flexing, knowing one just doesn't use brute force without proper preparation. But when he sees Auris pull out a small trinket, he waits, simplying winding his arm in case his muscle is still needed.
GM..Silbeg |
Auris puts the mirror onto the iron door, and it shows..... the iron door. Ralph is able to tell him that it is likely because the door is thicker than 1" of iron, thus blocking the magic.
Koraq, what is the trinket?
Auris Deftfoot |
"That's useless." Auris complains. Looking left and right, he picks up the window and places it on the wall to the side of the door. "One second Koraq, we'll see if this works."
Koraq Dragonclaw |
@GM: I was referring to the mirror as the trinket :P
Koraq sighs, but patiently waits for the halfling to do his thing.
GM..Silbeg |
Dozens of artistically displayed chunks of twisted, unidentifiable metal, embossed with alien symbols, decorate this chamber. Maps placed near individual chunks denote the locations and specific years in which the items were discovered. The north wall has two alcoves. On the floor in front of the eastern arch lies a metal door, apparently blown off its hinges. Numerous spatters of blood crisscross the floor.
GM..Silbeg |
The trail of blood, as best you can see, leads from the door across the room into the door that has been blown off its hinges.
Unfortunately, with a window, there is no real way to see what is preventing the door from opening, though Ralph might assume that the door is barred, based on the symptoms.

Auris Deftfoot |
"Right, I'm ready to go in." Auris says as he disappears from sight.
Ralph Cauthorn |
Ralph motions to the party to lower their voices.
"How curious. The scene of a battle, a barred door, yet we have not encountered Adril Hestram on this side. I would surmise that Adril's forces lie on the other side and this is an attempt to stall us. But I doubt Hestram would leave only a barred door in our way. I say prepare for battle. Koraq, wait a moment before you break the door."
Ralph gathers his power, then casts a silence spell on Koraq so that his breaking of the door will not ring out like a bell throughout Skyreach.
Using spell study, mirror image and resist energy to cast silence.GM, if you rule that the spell will not penetrate the door, Ralph will instead see if he can slide a piece of paper under the door. If he can, he will cast it on the piece of paper instead and slide it under the door. If he cannot slide a piece of paper under the door either, he will just cast the spell on the door.
Once ready, he gives Koraq a thumbs-up to indicate he should start hammering down the door. He then reactivates his ring of invisibility.
Koraq Dragonclaw |
Koraq silently nods as he studies the door...
Exploit Weakness vs Door: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (19) + 16 = 35

@GM; Do you want me to make all of those sweet flurry sunder rolls or assume that 5 attacks outta do it :p
GM..Silbeg |
Yes, Ralph will need to do the paper trick. That's actually quite clever.
Orange is the radius of the silence, once the door is opened.
Ralph casts a spell on a piece of paper, causing everything to go silent around it. He has Auris, who has much more nimble hands, slide it under the door [ooc](Take 10 on disable device gets it under without too much difficulty)
The team then prepares themselves for Koraq to bash the doors in. Koraq appears to get quite angry, and then punches the door in.

The half-elf casts a spell, right behind Koraq (light blue callout and lines) sleet starts falling from the ceiling, covering an area with a 40' radius. No one can see through the storm, and movement will obviously be hindered.
Sleet Storm on PRD
Driving sleet blocks all sight (even darkvision) within it and causes the ground in the area to be icy. A creature can walk within or through the area of sleet at half normal speed with a DC 10 Acrobatics check.
