Merchant types would be my first suggestion for a team, since we need to build them up to the point that we can use the advanced variety (Merchant Lords) to buy magic items that we need as we need them, rather than the random ones that would normally be rolled for in the city. Don't expect any adventure path to provide useful gear, because they rarely do beyond the most common useful items. Also the Black Market action allows us to sell loot at a higher value, increasing our coffers as well.
The only good ability that street performers will give us is Spread Disinformation, which while useful, won't be of real value until we actually start to gain notoriety. The merchant line can do Earn Gold, which will always be useful, even from day one. With Saniel's ability to gather information in 1 hour and his high diplomacy, that will always be a better option than rolling unmodified Secrecy checks for the same information.
For the first few weeks we will probably just be recruiting. I honestly don't think we will ever stop wanting to recruit supporters each and every week due to the attrition factor. That is also how you level the Silver Ravens and increase the overall power of the group, by the number of supporters you have. Anything that lets us recruit supporters faster and better is key to building up the rebellion. Recruit Supporters is a Loyalty check, and the focus of the rebellion gets a +2 to all of its associated checks, which is why I thought Loyalty would be a good focus. However, the DC to recruit is fairly low compared to the DC 20 Secrecy checks scattered all over, which makes those tougher checks overall. Attrition is also based on a Loyalty check.
Just something to chew on.

As I said before...I have read it twice and it's still clear as mud. Saniel seems to have a really good understanding and I'm leaning that way, Loyalty and merchant team. Point me at something to swing at.

Horillo |

Good points Saniel ... happy with what you propose, especially as Horillo won't be getting Scribe Scroll, so have to buy any scrolls required.
Horillo will contribute to the purchase of the wand and also to the rebellion pot, should we provide 10% of rewards to rebellion pot to keep it topped up to start with?
Also be away after Tuesday evening for a week, as I work at a local festival, bot as required, ranged and healing ....

GM Dak |

Bah, I totally wrote up and rolled the events, but apparently forgot to post it. Will post it the next time I am at my work computer.
Sorry for the delay all, it has been crazy at work and that is usually when I get my posting in :P.

Attrition: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Supporters: 2d4 + 1 ⇒ (1, 1) + 1 = 3
Recruit Supporters (DC11): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Supporters: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 5) = 10
Recruit Traders (DC10): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Event Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 64
Week 1 Summary:
Net gain of 7 supporters
Gain a team of peddlers (Lou, Celia, Gilda, Matis, Evan, Kieran)
No event

Yay for our first team!
As a technicality point I think we get to skip attrition for the first week. Sadly when checking this I also noted we don't level up till the second week since that also happens during the upkeep phase.

Sorix Seraxis |

We started a rebellion, yay!
And that would make sense about attrition starting on week 2, because how could we lose members if we don't have any yet? None of us PCs are quitting the rebellion, right??

Saniel Jin Ka |

Hey all, sorry for my late posting this week. I forgot to inform the group I was going to be in training Mon-Wed and am just now back in town. I'm playing catch up at the moment and will have a post up shortly.
Sorix is correct. There is no attrition in week 1, as stated in the Player's Guide. You skip that week's first phase completely.

A couple new things of note I wanted to clear with everyone and add to our "Standard Operating Procedures".
First, I know how devious these writers are and how much it would make for a good AP if in the midst of adding all of these strangers to our rebellion that a few scoundrels, not counting Nils, might sneak their way in. So whenever we recruit new members, namely via teams, Saniel will take measures to vet them before admittance. Primarily by questioning them and using Sense Motive to determine if they are on the up and up, and by using Detect Evil and Detect Law VERY heavily. Anyone of notable power, or with devil blood, should ping to both of those spells. Detective skills at work! Anyone not willing to submit to this should not be considered for admittance.
Second, I want to set up a private meeting area within the complex that the group can discuss strategy in. There are a few small rooms on the map that could serve as these. Anytime we need to discuss rebellion operations or make plans for next moves Saniel will insist we gather in one of these secured areas and will cast his new Cloak of Secrecy spell to make the discussions private. No eavesdropping allowed with the hideout! :)
Last, we should make regular inspections of the hideout, at least once per day, to identify any stowaways, sneaks, or other signs of infiltration. Detect Magic/Detect Evil should be liberally applied to all areas and teams to insure no one has been charmed, beguiled, or otherwise influenced by magical or supernatural means to spy or sabotage our efforts. It might be way early for that since we have no notoriety yet, but an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I can just see it now that some powerful archfiend finds one of our street rabble out and dominates them to sneak in and slit our throats! :P
It goes without saying that we would do as much as possible to hide our comings and goings and should probably rent rooms, if available, within the main building itself to cover our presence here.

Sorix Seraxis |

Agreed re: vetting, private office for just us, and regular inspections. Any time we enter the Wasp's Nest, Livery, or any future hideout I'll scan the whole place with Detect Magic.
I'm also good with Saniel's plan for Week 2.

Horillo |

Horillo is up with the paranoia ... no really it sounds a great idea, although Horillo himself is a trusting soul would not think of this until crossed ...
Anyway back from the Festival which was great and doing catch-up.

So where do we go from here folks? I know Dak has mentioned there are several hooks, but I'm really not understanding our next step. Are we taking on the role of investigators and looking into some of the local troubles? I guess I had rebellion on the brain and now its looking like a different angle I guess.
Anyone have any thoughts?

Nils the Ashen |

I'd say we're up to "budding resistance" level so far...rebellion might take awhile :)
As for how the module flows I'm ok following the structure or going a bit off the rails if Dak is up for it :)

Sorix Seraxis |

I reviewed the last couple pages and no real hooks stood out besides Laria coming to visit. She was gonna come talk to us after she met with some contacts.
Besides following the main story (which I'm okay with), Sorix would like to potentially recruit anyone rebellious from the Aulorian household (the noble family she's apprenticing under the court wizards) and fellow Desnan contacts in town.
I'll also accompany/help with getting other bases of operations up and running.

Saniel Jin Ka |

I know the Rose of Kintargo is a thing from the Player's Guide, but I'm not sure that is something we would know to pursue yet since there has been no in character discussion. Obviously the issues involving the tiefling population seems like some sort of hook.

Mawl Primal |

I did relay some sort of feedback I got when I went to approach Clenchjaw's bar, in game. I'm not sure if that was a hook or a warning, nor would I know how to proceed on that line if it was a hook.

Sorry I have been absent this week all. Every time I checked the boards on Wednesday and Thursday when I had free time they were "doing maintenance", i.e. the boards were down again.
For all of their strengths as a game designer, Paizo is crap with web hosting and programming. :)

Mawl Primal |

Ditto, I was thinking just like you Saniel, if they want people to use it make it available, and faster. It was maintenance but then it was just down, either DoS attack or just poor back ends.

GM Dak |

Here is a link to Discord as an alternate communication method in case there are issues with the forums again in the future. Expires in 24 hours. Please just post in general with your character name or change your nickname to your character name so I know which group to assign you to.
If we need to ever look at using it for backup gameplay I can create additional channels and the like, but for now it is a just in case of emergency thing. :)

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

So, I just checked my character sheet to see if I could do a knowledge check or something to determine whether the tooth was human, animal, or tiefling, or whatever...How would a swim check work?

Mawl Primal |

Well, I posted yesterday morning, or at least I thought I did. Mawl was just confused about the tooth fairy reference, as if he was only aware of the myth. It was probably not very funny. I preview posted it then never actually posted so I am present, just not much to contribute at this time.
