Standing a bit shorter than the average human at 5'7 Nils' form is a collection of remarkable features. The most noticeable of these are his alabaster skin, jet black eyes and mop of dark red hair. Only a bit less noticeable are a set of short dark grey horns protruding from just below his ears and a second set jutting out from his forehead near his hairline. Thin lips cover slightly pointed teeth that peek out when he smiles.
The tiefling's build would best be described as long and lanky with a grace and quickness of movement that is a bit disturbing. His dexterous fingers seem a touch too long and a whip like tail sways behind him.
His clothes are the thread bare homespun clothing common to the poor of Kintargo. However a close inspection might note that the well kept nature of his gear is a bit at odds with his destitute appearance. Of greater concern, wicked looking blades are carefully secreted about his person, obscured by straps or folds of clothing.
Nils has never had an easy life. Born to an apparently normal human couple his diabolic nature created instant scandal among their social circles. His father, Adal Roth a moderately successful merchant with ambitious aspirations, decided the slight of adultery would be better than the shame of a tainted bloodline and promptly cast out his wife, Serina and the newborn child for her "impropriety".
Cut off with little more than the clothes on their backs Serina made ends meet with odd jobs, petty crime and hungry nights. During these lean times the young woman focused obsessively on the two pillars that remained to her, Nils and the church of Asmodeus. While some might despise the child that cost them their comfortable lives, Serina instead saw him as all she had left of it. As for the church, though she had only taken part out of requirement and propriety in the past now she committed herself with near zealotry in the hopes of finding acceptance for herself and her son.
Years passed and Nils grew up living the life of a poor, fatherless half breed in Cheliax. As a young child his mother buffered him from the cruel realities of their lives but it wasn't long before he keenly felt the scorn, fear, and distrust of those around him. Despite her hopes the young tiefling found no greater level of acceptance among the Asmodeans though their disdain was perhaps more subtle. Reaching his teen years and nearing his majority he was disgusted to realize the true nature of the churches relationship with it's devoted. His mother, perhaps the only example of goodness in his life, had devoted herself to the church and yet it never truly helped her. All of it's offers and and aid had insidious costs associated with them that keep her bound to it in a form of perpetual indentured servitude. Slave in all but name she continued to seek the church's approval and "aid". Repulsed by the institution but unable to convince his mother of it's flaws he turned his back on the church.
When he wasn't helping his mother Nils spent his time running the slums of the Redroof District, primarily in the Devil's Nursery. Danger was ever present but at least the higher concentration of tieflings meant he found some acceptance. Over the years he ran with various gangs and groups and discovered that the discontent he felt with the church and House Thrune was not limited to himself. Others whispered similar thoughts in quiet places or when deep in their cups. In time he met and befriended Heimrick Glodflur, the half elven leader of a band of thieves known as the Crimson Thorns.
While he initially thought the group was just another bunch of street toughs, and in many ways it was, Nils discovered that Heimrick was something more. Once Nils gained his confidence the man spoke of a better way, of hope and the throwing off of tyranny. Heimrick introduced the tiefling to the teachings of Milani and Nils found that they rang true to him. Soon after he was doing what he could to aid Heimrick and the organization he was part of, the Rose of Kintargo, to break what chains they could for the betterment of those in the city. He would free his mother from the tyranny of the church even if she couldn't see it herself.
To that end he began to master the arts of disguise and deception. He would spend days as a beggar in order to learn guard rotations. The nights might find him sneaking into a merchants house to steal the next slave ship manifest or stalking a cruel ruffian to end his abuses. It mattered little to Nils what the task was, he had found a purpose and would pursue it so long as he could.
1. Nils lives in the Devils Nursery where he rents a room over a seamstress shop (Thimble Fingers). His room has an external entrance as well as an entrance into the rest of the living space. The owner of the shop (and his land lady) is Uwe Grasbrook an older tiefling woman who has been around long enough to be well connected within the Nursery. The building itself is located fairly central to the Nursery (right about where the R7 is on the map). If you're ok with it I also like to think he as various bolt holes through out the Redroof district (nothing that would qualify as long term living spaces but more places to lay low for a few hours).
2. Nils is currently part of a gang known as the Crimson Thorns. They control an area of the Nursery a bit East of where Nil's lives which includes a couple of blocks. The gang's size varies but sits around 15 members or so and are lead by the half elf Heimrick Glodflur. Within their territory they run protection (which they actually provide) and outside they get involved in petty larceny and information brokering.
3. As mentioned above Nils is part of the Crimson Thorns. Additionally Heimrick is a member of the Rose of Kintargo and has started grooming Nils to eventually join (though he is not currently a member). Nils also has loose ties with the Cloven Hoof Society and helps them and the tiefling community at large when he can. Finally he's a former member of the Asmodean church, which he has come to despise, and still attends infrequently with his mother (so he might know some minor clergy there).
As far as places he frequents there's his mothers place north of the Nursery, the Crimson Thorns primary hang out (a run down and abandoned building in their territory), The Horned Maid (a tavern/brothel in the Nursery near a main road) and occasionally the Cloven Hoof Society.
4. Nils' mother Serina, whom he is close to, lives in a small two room apartment (somewhere fairly central in the large area East of T5). She works as a maid to one of the minor clerics of Asmodeus (Friedrick Humdrid). His estranged father, Adal Roth, is a fairly successful merchant who lives in the more affluent section of the Redroof district (near the Bleakbridge). He hasn't had anything to do with either Serina or Nils since he cast them out shortly after the tieflings birth.
