Ex-Asmodean

You, or perhaps your family, were once worshipers of Asmodeus, but something happened that made you lose your faith. Perhaps your family was asked to give up something dear as a sacrifice, such as the life of a newly born brother or sister. Maybe the church used your family as a scapegoat to cover up a crime someone higher in the church committed. Or perhaps you simply met someone who opened your eyes and showed you the truth—that Asmodeus does not care for his followers, and that the deity of your new religion does. In any event, you left the church, and as a result, your family was punished; they were either put in prison, exiled from Kintargo, or perhaps even executed. Ever since, you’ve vowed to some day get revenge against the church.

Choose one: you gain a +1 trait bonus on attack rolls and weapon damage rolls or you gain a +1 trait bonus on the save DCs of your spells against agents of House Thrune and worshipers of Asmodeus, including most (but not all) devils.

I guess the question becomes, how do you decide which devils are applicable to the trait. Since the text itself does not include specifics to help clarify which is which, it is probably going to fall on Dak to make that determination.

Personally, I would probably classify the lemure as one of the few devils that this would not impact, mainly because they have no intelligence score and thus are mindless. That to me would make them unable to worship anything simply because they don't have the mental capacity to understand the concept. On the flip side, any devil with an intelligence score of 3 or better should classify as susceptible to the trait for this same reason.

@Saniel - So just to backtrack since you had mentioned it earlier and it will eventually come into play. Where would you fit in on the SDOP? IE do you search with Nils, before Nils, before Mawl, after Mawl, etc? Since you were out during all that, we can make adjustments as appropriate if needed.

Have fun those of you heading out on vacation! As a side note, if you want me to do anything specific with your character to bot them let me know, otherwise I will generally try and take the least risky/disruptive actions I would think your character would take.

As far as the SDOP goes, wherever it fits in best works for me. The way I see it we would be searching as a team, then proceeding with the detect magic and so forth. So I guess this would be considered simultaneous searching. As I mentioned I will be taking a rank in disable at my next level, and at that point I will be using aid another as necessary.

I'd also like to add that at level 2 I will be able to start using Detect Alignment at will, so probably at the same time we have Sorix checking for magical auras I will be doing the same to check for evil auras.

Made it safe and sound. Seems the wifi is decent so I should be good for posting on a regular basis.

Nils in combat:

In case it's needed Nils will generally act aggressively but not suicidal or foolishly in combat. His general MO is to move in quickly as long as he doesn't feel he'll be surrounded and attack. From there he'll study an opponent and focus on them while trying to flank or provide other combat advantages (such as stepping back to allow for ranged attacks or spells to strike). If need be he's not adverse to retreating unless it leaves one of his comrades behind in which case he'll fight to keep them safe.

He carries both a silver and regular kukri and is aware of devils weakness to silver so will use it if he suspects that's what he's fighting. He lacks K:Planes however so relies on instinct and his companions to identify a creature as such (so for instance he would probably take a demon for a devil). Otherwise he uses his standard kukri.

If he thinks he can gain advantage (in attack or escape) he'll make use of his darkness ability. He's aware of it's negative effects on his human companions however and would prioritize not putting them at disadvantage over gaining an advantage himself.

I've updated the loot sheet with what we know. The cloak remains unidentified for the time being.

One thing of note, the figurines definitely seem more like plot devices than actual loot. I can think of nothing more fitting for an AP about planning a rebellion as a group called "The Silver Ravens" than having a means for us all to communicate in a secret manner as needed. The quantity seems odd, as someone is getting left out, unless they are meant to be passed around as needed. I do however think these should be held apart from the normal loot.

Being as he is one of our two front line fighters, I'd suggest Mawl pick up that morningstar. While I know he likes using the reach weapon, the benefits of having a silver weapon on hand far outweigh the 1d10 vs 1d8 damage comparison between the two.

Agreed, having silver as an option is pretty important.

I also agree on the ravens. Even if they aren't specifically plot items they're way to cool and thematic to sell off.

Dak did you catch the idea of using the key to open the coffer? Not sure if you just didn't get to address it or if our new friend seemed to be avoiding the topic intentionally (in which case it can be handled in game :)

I figure Mawl, being untrained in everything, doesn't know the difference between Devils, Demons, and damage reduction, so I will try and act as if I hit it with the big stick first and then if told, move to a smaller but shiny stick.

So is Ms. Longroads a merchant? Will this be the place to divide up the loot? I the person am interested in what the cloak is and how much loot, but I don't think Mawl is highly concerned with item identification and saving for better equipment.

Just thought I would throw these out here since people may not know or have looked up the details on the magic items you have found and IDed to this point:

Cloak of Resistance +1:
+1 Resistance bonus to all saves

Silver Raven Figurines:
The figurine turns into a raven on command (retaining its metallic consistency). Another command sends it off into the air, bearing a message. If not commanded to carry a message, the raven obeys the commands of its owner, although it has no special powers or telepathic abilities. It can maintain its non-figurine status for 24 hours per week, but the duration need not be continuous.

Bracers of Armor +1:
+1 Armor bonus to AC

Obviously you all haven't had a chance to sell yet, but this is a good place to have discussion about who wants what loot and the like.

I took the morningstar. I would add the cloak of resistance but I think others could use that, even more than I. I would think it would only be temporary but someone should take advantage of it.

I vote we keep the figurines as they're a symbol of who we are (or are becoming) and could be very useful for passing messages while keeping a low profile.

I'm gonna buy a cloak of resistance eventually (as we all probably should) but I don't need the one we just found yet. Someone who fights up front take it.

The bracers of armor aren't useful to any of us (I have a Haramaki for +1 armor). I vote we sell them.

Completely OOC, I'm pretty sure we can get this opened once we level up. Not only do I hate wasting gold, but the idea of leaving the coffer with someone for hours while we explore around makes me more than a little nervous. Secrecy is key, and there is no telling what is inside this thing.

Dak, is the opening of the coffer critical at this point in the story, or do we have time to sit on it?

An alternative might be to hunt down a scroll of knock for Sorix to learn ...

It might be a useful spell for her to know for the future, and to create a few scrolls herself.

It would be a better way of spending 25gp rather than a single 20gp ... although perhaps the dwarf is open to negotiation....

As Horillo is outside, he will let the guys inside decide.

I like that idea. Having knock would be a good fall back later too. I wouldn't think Sorix would mind having it. I also think that we can wait, as Saniel suggests. We need to find that hideout as our base of operations maybe.

Knock is a stellar idea, and I'd be far more interested in investing the gold into someone learning the spell as opposed to tossing money at an NPC for the same services.

Hey all, I was busy with family stuff Tuesday and yesterday. I'll get caught back up shortly.

I also like the idea of learning Knock. Assuming there's a wizard in town who's willing to rent me their spell book, I can copy it into my book. I won't be able to cast it until I'm level 3 though. I -can- activate a scroll with a fairly easy caster level check. A scroll would cost 150gp though, not 25, as it's a 2nd level spell.

It we need an excuse, I thought a domestic problem for Mawl or someone might help. Required because he's always being locked out the house by Mrs Mawl after a drinking session.... as a friend Sorix wants to help him get back into his own home, because he comes round to Sorix's house and camps on the floor.

Or whatever Sorix wants as her excuse to learn the spell.

Haha Horix, that's clever. I hadn't considered needing to explain why I might want to learn any particular spell, but we are rebels after all...

Just a heads-up to everyone: I'm leaving Sunday (July 8) on an Alaskan cruise for a week. I'm hoping there'll be wifi or at least phone service so I can check in. I'll do my best to find time once a day. Before I leave though I'll type up suggestions for botting.

Have you ever been? Everyone I've spoken with says they loved it. I have had a few opportunities but I don't think I would like it. I'm more of a golf resort kind of person. I don't do well on cruises and would spend all of my time in a casino but I don't think that cruise even has one.

Have fun on the cruise! If you get a chance I would highly recommend one of the glacier hikes. I've done the Alaska cruise a few times and really enjoyed it every time, so I'm sure you will have a blast.

botting Sorix:

Sorix is really excited to be taking action as part of a new resistance movement. She'll eagerly go along with the group and the recent opportunities that have been presented. She has +8 in knowledges: arcana, dungeoneering, nature, planes, and religion, and she'll be happy to share anything she knows/remembers. She'll cast detect magic whenever prudent, and use knowledge: arcana or spellcraft to determine magical properties/etc. Her stat block on her page is current, so in combat, use any spells that seem appropriate. She has 4 arcane pool points to use, either to increase a spell's caster level or saving throw DC by 2 (Potent Magic), or to replace any prepared spell with any spell in her book as a full-round action (Quick Study).
