Talked to you about it already, but assumed I'd post for anyone else to chime in on my being a pansy ass.
Roleplay is happening a little too quickly if we only get once per day to post. While I do definitely understand the need to get the story going, that entire council happened without me getting a word in. I unfortunately very rarely have access to a computer while at work.

Today's did happen a bit quickly. You were already on the second part before I could get a chance to chime in. I work night shift (11pm-7am) and have a very odd sleeping schedule during the day, so it can be hard to predict when I check the boards. I'm on my lunch break right now, I check again in the mornings around 9am and evenings between 5-7 usually. And I'm on eastern standard time.
GM DSP |
Yeah, I rushed that a bit. I guess I felt like things were slowing down too much, and I don;t want to lose players for lack of story development. This is my first PbP as a GM, so I may be a bit trigger happy.
I will slow it down and make sure everyone has a chance to post before I move things along.

Thanks for the kind words and thoughts, everyone. Things are a little more settled and I'm feeling about ready to come out of my man-cave and interact with the world again.

DSP So far I have liked starting in media res with a big set piece action scene, and then being thrown off balance again when the tension started to slip. No serious suggestions for improving so far... that may change when I get caught up IC of course.

If you were to consider replacing Maedoc, I would propose contacting the other arcanist from recruitment (Cecil? A sorceror?) before advertising the slot more widely. I thought he was a good roleplayer from what I saw.
GM DSP |
Children acting normally in creepy situations, coming in on a crime scene after the fact, being stalked, etc.
I won't try to push those boundaries too hard usually. I tend to get disturbing when I want the players to feel uncertain or scarred, or to make them hate the bad guys.
A better way to put it: I use disturbing imagery to invest my players more deeply into the story.
Just let me know if it gets to be too much. 8)

Do you still want in on this game, Cecil?
Sure. I haven't been reading up, but I can do so tomorrow (at work) to get caught up. Or you can give me a summary of what you want me to know. What Can I do to help you write me in? Also is my character sheet ok?
GM DSP |
Character sheet looks good!
Read the last few pages to get caught up from the council scene at least: if you can read all of it, that'd be great. You have all the information on the Faellstaff situation listed in that scene. Make any knowledge checks you want to make here in the OOC.
You will be introduced tomorrow, in game and out of game, as the characters eat breakfast in their apartments. You are being assigned to the team on the recommendation of the demi-mage of Pollex. You were told that you were recommended on the credentials of having potential, but requiring experience.
Breakfast will be a time for introductions and strategy.
I'm not going to lie to you Cecil, Maedoc was a good player. You're stepping into some big shoes, but I think you have the skill and drive to fill them. Good luck, and ask questions if needs be!

Your knowledge nature, history, local, and geography yield some intelligence.
Wolves with enhanced intelligence could refer to Dire wolves, but those don't normally rise from the dead...
Historically, wolves have always lived in forests, and therefore come into contact with any human inhabitants from time to time. Wolves have been known to attack humans if hungry enough or provoked.
Your knowledge of Faellstaff almost suggests you lived there at one point. Good roll!
Faellstaff, as of the last census, maintained a population of nearly 30 men, women, and children. It is a lumber town in the center of Pollexia and it sits between two rivers and borders a great oak forest. It is rumored that this forest was one of the first to spring up in Pollexia and is therefore one of the oldest, and it produces very fine timber.
You seem to recall a being in a pub a few weeks back in which a lady arrived, claiming to have recently escaped the apparent horrors of the struggling timber town.

Cecil is well read, though not particularly brilliant. He's well traveled and has had contact with the Pathfinders. Though he may or may not be a member at your discretion. He simply chooses to share information with them so he can access their libraries on his travels.
Also since this campaign has a lot of dealing with the nobility I figured that would be Cecil's plot point. Having a noble name will open a lot of doors, so to speak. Also he would have in depth knowledge of political machinations and customs. Though I will need your help as a player with this since I wasn't actually raised among the nobility. ;-)
GM DSP |
Ok, we can work with this.
First of all, in Pollexia, the Pathfinders don't exist. Alothough I like the network of libraries.
In Pollexia, mages and magic are strictly regulated. A mage is required to anounce him/her self as such upon arriving to a new settlement. It is illegal for a mage to use magic to improve commerce for him/herself. Necromancy is vehemently despised. Anyone found to be practicing, in posession of, or teaching any necromantic arts or artifacts, is immediately declared enemy of the state and every citizen is bound to harm or kill said necromancer.
There are conclaves of mages all over the country and each keeps an extensive library. It is permissable for you to have a passing connection to the Arcanum, though you are not a student or memeber as yet. You may become one should you wish it.
As to politics and political climate, look at the map of Pollexia I posted in the recruitment thread, or just search for it online. Tell me where your family is from and what capacity they serve as nobles. From there, I'll help you figure out what you know about the political world.

Regarding Nobility: I left the depth of Cecil's nobility open ended on purpose. He's at least a mid-level noble, but if you want him to be 3rd in line for the crown that's up to you. Whatever is good for plot.
His family has Land and title though part of the reason he's helping the crown is to increase his polotical credentials. I pictured his family as having some merchant related businesses that are somehow important to the nation. Again, it's open eneded on purpose.
GM DSP |
I think Eneini is a good place for your family to be. It is an important import/export city. Exporting Stone and gold to Pollexia and beyond, while importing spices and the like for other countries. The city suffers from incesent pirate raids, too. (Those are the brigands that helped you first summon Owen.)
Being busy with commerce for the most part makes it difficult for your father to attend court regularly, but he does handle the enforcment of laws within his city. For game play, just spoiler any question you have about a specific law or custom, and I'll tell you which knowlege to roll to see how much you know about it.
Your nobility and your arcane power give you access to the libraries at the Arcanumae, but not membership. Membership requires a Mage ranking higher than initiate to sponsor you for training.
"Mage" refers to any arcane caster. Therefore, this includes you.
Divine casters are easier to distinguish between. They are required to show their holy symbol or have their aura checked by another priest. If the register as good, they are left alone. Neutral, they are watched as closely as the mages. Evil, they are treated as necromancers.
does that work? I hope that answers your questions.

I sent the invite for the combat map. Let me know when you get it and if you have any trouble using it.
Basically, when we're in a situation where we need to visualize the space, I'll put it up on that document. To move your character, click on your picture, then drag from the upper right hand corner to the desired location.
Each square is 5 feet unless otherwise noted.

I sent a permission request. (I think)

Fair warning:
Cecil is probably going to come across as Elitist...Because he is. ;-) It comes from a very ingrained sense that "noble blood is better than non-noble." He understands the value of non-nobles, but he's simply born better than you. Of course you have no more control over the circumstance of your birth than he did, but still. His blood is better than yours. His goal is not to rub it in anyone's face. It's just a fact of life.
Of course IRL we all know that's complete crap. However, it's a Role Play aspect I'm working with. It should be amusing.
I just wanted to clarify because he will say stuff like "can you read?" but it's because not everyone can. Since you're commoners (I presume) than he knows that you couldn't afford the finest schools and tutors. It's not a detriment necessarily, it just is. In other words, He's not trying to be a jerk. He just knows he's better than you, but will do his best not to rub it in your face. ;-)
Just wanted to throw that out so people know it's the character and not the player. I'm sure you've all experienced that confusion at some point in the past. ;-)
