Dusty's familiar with the dangers that plants can bring from long years in the Nirmathan woods, so he takes all possible care in creeping towards the cottage.

Thankfully, the plant is Oblivious enough for you to successfully sneak past and Retrieve the 'treasure' on the other side. A small feather (With an aura of Strong Conjuration!) is the only thing left in the rusty old box.

Spellcraft DC 27:
This BIRD FEATHER TOKEN creates a small bird that can be used to deliver a small written message unerringly to a designated target. The token lasts as long as it takes to carry the message.

Following the specific directions from Lord Asiclassus lead you toward a clearing, Soft light filtering through branches of the forest. A rough platform formed of interlocking hexagonal stone columns rises thirty feet above the forest floor, abutting the foot of the mountain. A rickety wooden staircase attached to the side of the cliff leads to the top of the platform, which is covered by a ramshackle collection of boxy wooden buildings surrounded by a patchwork steel fence.

@GM, just to clarify, we have finished at the druid's cottage and this platform and staircase is the entrance to the goblin citadel?

Fizzlebottom looks at the feather and is able to detect that it is magical, but lacks the skill in Spellcraft to determine what it might be.

"We should probably approach this place as quietly as possible."

Hmm, I might not need a map for this.

Miri hears rustling in the trees above. She hisses, "Demons! I mean, Goblins! I mean, Lamashblins! Above us! Take cover and hide your alchemist fire!" as she remembers what Nolaria told them about goblins.

She takes cover behind a tree, and draws a bow, peeking out around the trunk trying to figure out where these goblins are!

Probably a 5' step behind a tree, for cover from as many goblins as she can see, and then a Move action to draw a bow? When we get a map she'll take her 5' step.

Marcus takes a step behind a tree to try to get some cover between him and the little green (purple?) maniacs. As he does so, he draws his bow, and begins a stirring oration, attempting to inspire his teammates to feats of valor, reminding them of the harm the Lamashblins have wrought, the dangers of the Demon's Bile, and the threat to the Inheritor's knight.

@GM, in your previous post you indicated that there were arrows for everyone but Fizzle, but in the arrow volley it looks like I took 3 points of damage. I'm fine either way, but just for my record-keeping, which is it? Thanks for clarifying.

@GM, also, it looks like we are in the trees. Is this difficult terrain? Does it impede vision or arrows or other ranged attacks?

If the trees don't count as difficult terrain:

Move action Fizzlebottom steps back 5' to get away from the Red goblin in his face.
Swift action Fizzlebottom uses his hypnotic stare ability on Red. -2 to Will saves
Standard action Daze spell on Red. DC 16 Will negates; failure means no actions for 1 round

If the trees do count as difficult terrain:

Same as above, except instead of stepping backwards, Fizzle will attempt to cast defensively.
Concentration check DC 15: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

Painful Stare is now in effect on Red - once/round if he takes any damage from any attack, he takes 1 additional point.

I assumed that this meant THEY had a surprise round on us and that now we are in normal initiative after the surprise round, no? Now I'm confused. Also, it would be helpful to have some guidance about the impact, if any, of the terrain. Since they fired a volley of arrows at us, presumably the trees are not providing cover? Is it difficult terrain? Or just basically decorative with no in-game impact?

Gallows Part 3 | REBIRTH!

Rereading the situation, I didn't exactly make it very clear. Let me elaborate!

Elaboration:
Goblins are hiding (about 15 feet up) in the trees. The area beneath them is otherwise clear and free of clutter (Most likely burned away by the Goblins.) Anyone who doesn't make a Perception check against their stealth may act in the 'Surprise round'. Well, only the Fool was really surprised!

Now, when I posted this, It was before I saw that Fizzle wanted to sneak up. 5 goblins, 6 targets, so it make sense Fizzle would be the one they 'Overlooked' Now, people that went before Goblins would have different AC, and potentially more if they chose to say, Hide behind trees etc. So, I figured I would just do All the Arrow Dice rolls, and do the math later!

Woo! That was long winded. I'll spoiler text that, and continue in the next post!

Gallows Part 3 | REBIRTH!

The forest is generally clear (The ground probably cleared by Fire and Small feet) except or the Trees. The Goblins are sitting about 15' in the trees, firing Shortbows down! The trees are enough to provide cover, but seem to be swaying under the weight of the Fierce Fiendish Foes. You would have to climb to Melee them, unless you have a more creative solution. Or you know, Fill them full of arrows!

I’ll put a picture on the slide of Basically how this is happening.

As the goblins fire off arrows, Only Miri, Savina and the High Fool are caught, little more than Sharpened Sticks barely piercing skin. Dusty's crossbow snaps up, taking careful aim at the little Green Monsters above. Marcus's song rings through the trees, and the sounds of Sticks drummed against Corregated Steel echoes back in response from the Fort above. Fizzle's quick thinking SR 4: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7Will Save: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (8) - 1 = 7 is enough to stop the Goblin above in his tracks, at least for now!

Which goblin shot Miri? The volley had a shot aimed at her hitting AC 16 vs. her 17 AC and she went first in the surprise round I think so she shouldn't be flatfooted. And it looks like that tree she's behind provides cover from everyone? Anyway...

Miri ducks out from behind her tree and begins firing arrows!

Full-round action to rapid shot, targeting whatever goblins she has (mostly?) unobstructed shots at. Seeing the two Fools, the Mesmerist, and the Werewolf head to the platform, he glances at its position, frowning. "Well that seems . . . exposed," he mutters to no one in particular. Resolve comes into his voice as he continues, "They say Fortune favors the bold. Let's see if we can earn a bit of Fortune's favor."

Bow drawn, he swiftly moves to the stairs, and then cautiously makes his way up them, attempting to keep hidden from view and silent.

I wasn't sure if Savina went up to the platform or not. I interpreted the post as implying that. If that's incorrect, just mentally remove "and the Werewolf" and put an "and" before "the Mesmerist" from this post. :-)

Gallows Part 3 | REBIRTH!

Just waiting on me!

As the Fool heads swiftly up the stairs, one of the poles gives just a bit, pulling a cord taught at the top of the cliff face. Three glass jars, attached to the cliff by another length of rope, launch over the edge before smashing on the cliff face, covering the slats and cliff side in a fine brown powder. The powder seems to suck the heat out of the air around the slats where it settles, covering the Fool, His shadow, and Fizzle.

After making a mental note about the importance of checking for traps, he then attempts to scan his surroundings for other traps and "ooze-addled" threats. He is, however, more than a little bit distracted due to the commotion on the stairs and concern for his companions.

I have no such ability to create cold. Maybe someone has some way to move it without touching it?

Squares in Blue on the map represent the Mold. As a note, if you remain within 5 feet of the mold, you take 3d6 NL Cold per round.

Fizzlebottom also scampers up towards the platform. With a move speed of only 20', a single move action doesn't quite get him all the way up, but it does get him past the blue squares.

For Fizzle's first turn in the initiative, he will move up onto the platform (I haven't yet moved my icon in case anything happens to prevent this) and ready an action, triggered as soon as one of the goblins comes into view to a) swift action hypnotic stare (-2 on will saves) and b) cast Daze DC 16 Will negates.

Times like this, I wish I had moved when I said I was going to. Ah well. Not being able to make it past the Brown Mold with a single move action, Marcus will move up towards the stairs. Hopefully, someone has a rope. On the first round of Initiative, he will move diagonally 15' and take a shot at Leeza, assuming he has one. Given the height difference, Point-Blank Shot will not apply.

Marcus quickly moves towards the stairs, and on seeing Leeza, draws his bow and looses an arrow at her.

Miri tries to sprint well, move quickly with a move action up past the blue squares, cursing all the while. She gasps as she runs through the mold. She gets up on top of the plateau and draws her bow as part of the move action.

I think Miri definitely gets hit with the mold once, but might get hit with the mold twice depending on when you want the 3d6 nonlethal to trigger. She has to end her free move action 5' away from the bottommost square of the 3 squares of brown mold on the map. Then the mold expands. After all that she starts her next turn and moves away.

If Miri survives 3d6 or 6d6 nonlethal damage:

then she might try to take a shot at the goblin poking her head over the wall!
