The Black Mist (Inactive)

Game Master Vinsomner

It's always dangerous looking past the close space, and traveling the unknown. Danger lurks in the shadows of the vast and the drift. The unknown push many to explore the galaxy, to discover, to plunder, to conquer.

Thus The Expedition has been formed.

A distress signal brings the ships console lights to life, waking the sleeping crew from their slumber. Investigating the distress signal only brought everyone to a frantic scramble.

--CODE RED ALERT--
--HELP REQUESTED--
--STRANDED--
--UNKNOWN HOSTILES--
--NAV POINT ATTACHED--

The ship begins changing its direction to the point of origin, a large moon orbiting a gas giant. A quick radar check shows your ship is the only one within range. The distress had been logged and you are now headed towards a rescue mission with hell knows what kind of dangers ahead.

I just picked up the Starfinder rule book and I have gotten quick read of it and I have to say... EXCITED! So eager to run a game, I'm deciding why not DM one for all you lovely folks?!

Simple rules to begin:

Races: Starfinder Core heavily recommended, Pathfinder Legacy Core allowed.
Starting level: 1
Ability Scores: 10 point buy
Optional Rules: Character Flaw - One of your ability scores will need be an 8 or lower. You do not get to reassign this point deficit.
Posting Speed: 1/day
Posting Style: RP Heavy
Background: 10 minute background is bare minimum. The lore is new and rich with Starfinder so I do expect some good ideas behind your character!
Setting: Will be using established settings of the Pact worlds. What ever is in the core rule book is game and will exist in my campaign.

I will be using google drives for online battle maps. If you have a recommendation (that's free) feel free to pitch it! I will also create a private discord channel for the campaign as well.

This is a new system to me, and I'm pretty sure everyone in the party, so it'll be a great learning experience and hopefully, very fun!

Oh yes, the ship will be created by the players who are accepted in as joint team building activity! Backstory of that ships existence, and the crew, will come then as well.

I am open to allowing Pathfinder Legacy Core Races.

I would love to get in on this. I have been picking through the core rulebook and I am really excited to try it out. With all the exciting new material it will be hard to narrow down what I would want to play but I was going to try building some characters anyway to get a feel for things. I will put one together according to your requirements and If this takes off great, if not I will know what I am doing a little better for next time.

Hmm...

May I ask how long you see this game lasting? I mean, is it like a short one-off adventure, so not much leveling and character development? Or is it more like an AP, so hopefully lasting a long time and maybe bringing with it the chance for personal story hooks to come up and be explored?

A reason I am asking is because the 10-minute background usually takes anything but 10 minutes to write and includes story hooks and background elements that could make interesting personal sidequests so to speak.

And if I understand it correctly, since all other races come with an 8 anyway, humans have to drop an ability score to an 8 as well, correct? As in it is not optional, but required for a character to be submitted? But snce other races get +2 to two abilities in exchange for that -2 in one (so a net bonus/penalty of +2, essentially giving them 12 points to distribute), doesn't making human characters also drop a score to 8 act as a sort of disadvantage as they only get one +2 to a score (so a net bonus/penalty of 0, essentially giving them 10 points)?

Mostly asking so I can see what character to make and how if I do end up doing so, as at least at first glance the game seems interesting.

I think that is a good point.

I also think what you have is the HAW [House rule As Written]. That HAI [House rule As Intended]is other races get a second attribute at 8. That certainly seems to even things out.

I am in the same state as others, started reading Starfinder and eager to try it out. Very interested, but haven't read the whole book yet.

Le dot. One vesk soldier coming online.

@F. Castor, you make a good point, much what Joynt Jezebel said. I'll mull it over for now, but for creation sake, ignore that optional ruling.

Also, this is more like an AP. Going to have longevity and a deep compelling story. The 10 minute background is really bare minimum, but I expect a nice, in depth background of your character. It's pretty much a criteria I like to issue to see who takes it the next step without me having to slam a hammer down to say so.

So if you get in, you can expect to have personal story lines, character hooks and returning events for your character.

I'm very interested. Greatly enjoying the game I just joined with you so far, and I'd love to give this a go! Thinking a Mechanic, although I'm not positive on race just yet.

Thanks for the answers.

I do have a couple of potential characters in mind, one being an Android Operative (or maybe Mechanic) and the other being a Human Soldier. I will think about it and see what I can come up with.

Sczarni

Dotting for massive interest!

I've not yet got a chance to skim through the book yet, but I've got a whole bag of ideas for a sci-fi character, so no bugger there.

Just missed the edit period, but I realized I have a question: Are we using the standard 1000 credits for starting gear?

I am extremely interested. Thinking of making a Commander Shepard-style Icon Soldier. I'll fill out a 10 minute background and design the character.

@Loup Blanc: Yeah, book rule of the 1k credits for starting gear.

Hey there! I am extremely, EXTREMELY, interested in this campaign. I am new to Play by Post 100%. Ive played a ton of pathfinder and have been GMing both pathfinder and starfinder scenarios for my home group of local gamers. Ive run a few starfinder society scenarios and I would love to finally get to play in one. One question tho, what does a "10 minute background" mean? Like it should take ten minutes to write it?

MrGompers wrote:

Welcome aboard to the Boards, MrGompers! As for your question, Here you'll find a complete explanation and guideline to understand the method.

Now back to the recruitment!
First I must say that, since I picked up the Starfinder book, I've fallen in love with both its rules and setting... Something about playing a masterwork hybrid between sci-fi and fantasy enraptured me.

That's why I will be submitting an Exo-Cortex mechanic, part of a program to improve soldiers with state-of-the-art technology that later went rogue in order to find freedom of choice and action.
I still am not decided if I want to be an Ysoki or an Elf, both are mwchanically simmilar (with the Ysoki giving cool bonuses to Mechanic skills)... But the fluff regarding elves, their isolation from others and wearing masks when around strangers as a show of an unified elven nation seems too cool for me to pass.

In any case, consider this humble mwatbag really interested.

Sczarni

Hmm...

I had a couple of concepts as I sat in to read the book, and then a wholly new one appeared as I was ending up the Setting part. I've got a backstory I'm working on right now.

Backstory, as told by Molly Bakir:

Akiton.

F!~* Akiton. It's like alcoholism, or a shitty ex-lover, or a gambling addiction. Just when you thought you got out of that slowly dying hellpit, it somehow bites you back, and it feels like it does it even harder next time, for you daring to get away from it the previous time.

I wish I could say the rusty pothole of a planet was better, back in the day, as us old bags do, but it wasn't. Grew up in a small mining town in there. First time I remember the galaxy being an ass - I'm sitting at home when news arrive about a new human empire, across the starts. Mom and Dad got really excited, started speaking about destiny and whatnot, considered leaving this piece of junk and whatnot. Then those guys turn out to be holier-than-thou slavers. Figures. Showed me us humans aren't better than the rest, though.

Started working in the mines when I was a teen - got to eat, and it beats shaking my ass for money. Paying money to go to bars and shake it for fun, that's different. Saved myself enough cred to buy me an enercycle, because, hey, I'm fifteen, and it's not like I got anything better to do. Not even a new one, oh, no - a fifth-hand down from someone. Then, a week later, some a!@$*** goes and steals it, because why the hell not. Should've painted it pink, like I said I'll do. Or shouldn't have brought it to that part of town. Hindsight, am I right?

Then, a month later, the mine closes. Who needs that crud we mine anymore, right? If they could, spaceship captain would Drift to their damn couch and back, my gran used to say, the salty booze-hound. Frankly, I was seventeen at the time, and generally pissed off at the universe's shenanigans. Oh, sweety, was I young and stupid, and not nearly pissed off enough.

So what's a young and stupid backwater girl with pent-up anger do when the universe is being a massive prick? Goes and attempts to join the Stewards, of course. It's not like the Vesk are going to stop attacking any time soon, those four-armed zealots could turn that ship on us at any moment, they have fancy uniforms that have nothing rust-coloured on them, and because, frankly, f+## Akiton.

Well, it turns out I wasn't the worst. Piloting a fighter isn't all that different from operating a mining rig - small exception being the fighter rarely gunks up and stop working for no reason. Flew, saw the world on someone else's money. Not that I was in the thickest of the fighting, oh, no. One deployment in the spinward end of the Diaspora, one assault on a Vesk cruiser. One takedown. I thought I was fighting the good fight.

Turns out I wasn't really cut to be a Steward either. We'd just started preparing against the Swarm. Was going to be deployed, joint operation with the Vesk, of all people, and I was sitting in a rather fancy bar with one of the scalies, as we called them back in the day. Not s'posed to call them that any more. Then some suited lickspit walks by, bragging on his comms about how much money they made for deals for weaponry and how crisis like this is how fortunes were made. I stabbed him in the ear with his own fork, and then they told me I was fired for conduct unbecoming. The vesk seemed to like it, though.

So I ended up back on Akiton, in a big city this time. Folks had split years ago, left on some cruisers. Ended up marrying first loser I set my eyes on. Called him out on him being a loser ten years later, he came with his gambling buddies to take my house and take me out. And you know, you seen those holovids about someone old going back for one last job, and being even better than they were? Complete bullshit. Going rusty is a thing, since I got my ass thoroughly handed to me by three idiots drunk off their beards. Hitched a ride on the first ship stupid enough to take me out of pity, and never looked back.

It's been ten godsdamned years. Slow godsdamned years. Ninety-nine percent of the time, spacetravel is more boring than a drill. But, hey. It beats Akiton, and that place deserves a beating.

Thoughts:

"Honey, I've had more ups and downs than a space elevator. Relax - sooner or later, the galaxy's going to run out of ways to screw us over."

I've played with a couple of build ideas, but the general concept was a rather cynical and snarky character, who's had quite the hard life, and is currently just adrift on the cosmic winds. However, as the game progresses and picks up tempo and velocity, to become more enthusiastic and energetic. I've always wanted to explore the general rusty-ness of someone whose adventuring days are past, but could also be future.

Molly could possibly be an Envoy, Mechanic or Operative, depending on party needs, but I'm mostly leaning towards Envoy for the moment. As for the race, I'm mostly leaning human or halfling.

Ten Minute Background:

Five Essential Things
1. Molly is cynical and gruff, stemming from a life of cluck-ups and circumstances.
2. She is not, however, without a sense of humour or self-awareness surrounding that fact.
3. During her life, a lot of circumstances have changed, as well as her perceptions on matters and general worldview. She's warred with the vesk and the Swarm, and has had mixed experiences with the ysoki.
4. She despises Akiton the way only an Akitonian can. She'd argue against going there under any circumstances and avoid it, but wouldn't put the lives of those around her on the line for that reason. However, if a possibility arises to help the planet's people, she'd probably take it, "even if it's about as useful as pissing in a sieve."
5. The idealistic streak from her youth is buried deep, but still remaining. While pragmatic to a fault, appeals to her pride and good nature could work, if with the side effect of grumbling.

Two Goals
1. I'd like Molly to get the rush of living a life on the edge once again. Outrunning a vast horde of beasts on an alien planet, engaging in a high-speed chase, or even attending an incredibly fancy party would do the trick.
2. I would quite enjoy Molly returning to Akiton at a later date in a position of power: e.g. as a member/captain of a rather famous starship crew, or having to do a job nobody else can.

Two (or is it three?) Secrets
1. Molly's had a child in her late teens, which had been given up for adoption on one of Absalom Space Station's numerous foundations. Since then, more than three decades have passed, and she almost never thinks about it.
2. In her more recent past, a crew she worked on has stol... obtained a very important relic from a powerful party. The party has quietly tried to hunt down for information on it, and has resolved to finding and snuffing all people involved in its theft...

Three People (Or sentient beings)
1. Hirsk A vesk privy to a particular utensil-involved incident, Hirsk was a young and impressionable serviceman in the Veskarium twenty years ago, who had just seen a display of honor from a species where he had seen no such thing possible. Two decades later, he works on Absalom station's Vesk embassy as a mid-level representative, and while his position doesn't allow for a lot of overt help, and any direct such would be dishonourable, he might be able to provide significant information on non-classified matters, or even open access for mutually beneficial trade.
2. Temoran Tann An aging bookie on Akiton's most populated hive, Temoran is both a coward and a cutthroat business man. Molly's ex-husband, he's operating with the gangs on a local level, and is allegedly negotiating with the Aspis Consortium to expand their push on the planet's already straining law system.
3. Stomr Driftclaw A venerable dwarf and one of only seventy-two to have ever be granted the honour of being welcome in all of the clans' ancestral homes on the Diaspora, Captain Driftclaw is the captain that first picked up Molly from Akiton. Well beyond retired now, he mostly remains in his own clan's holdings in the Diaspora, and shares spacefaring knowhow to anyone who's willing to listen. While not indebted to Molly in any way (quite the contrary), his word is said to be as immovable as the sun itself, and if information is needed to get to the mining clans, he's more sure-fire source than any.

Three memories
1. Being accepted in the Stewards, stars in her eyes and hope in her heart.
2. The many different nights later on Akiton, ending up the same way, drunk in a bar or on a couch, staring at the skies with dulled eyes.
3. Staring off into the rapidly vanishing red dot through the window with one bruised and one closed eye, and a grim smile on her face.

That's what I got for now! I'll get a character sheet up soon, too, as well as a description.

Welcome MrGompers!

Much as EmissaryOfTheNorth pointed out, the link is literally what I'm speaking of. The Lion Cleric is a great example of making a very involved character design and helps me, as the GM work your characters into the scenarios. Especially their use of the Backstory and giving me thoughts is actually a good idea, so I know how you want to play them and will help everyone else understand what your trying to achieve.

@Emissary: The Exocortex mechanic looks like quite a lot of fun, I was actually building a character myself just for fun and I ended up with a Shirran Mechanic with the exocortex route. My vote, is to be a Ysoki, they seems pretty cool and fun to play as, but that's just my opinion! But that elven route with that rp side of always keeping their face hidden, that is pretty hard to pass up.

@The Lion Cleric: Human Envoy, it looks like a pretty versatile idea and would work quite well quite honestly! Though I have to say I really appreciate the extra work you put into the backstory!

I'm excited by the interest! I have quite the campaign plan and I'm super excited to play in this new Lore and ruleset!

How long before recruitment is up?

Gnomezrule wrote:

Have at least a week or so for the recruitment as a soft limit, could be up to two weeks depending on how many people make it into the campaign by the end of the first week.

I want to play an Android GM, would that be ok?

So I had a chance to look through the core book and I really liked the Android class as a whole. I have a loose idea for a couple concepts but one pretty solid one is an Android Envoy, which is actually pretty hard to come up with due to the fact that Androids take a -2 to charisma which is an envoy key ability score. But the class is honestly pretty flexible to fit with the teams needs. I do wanna stick with Android though. I'm gonna get the backstory in soon. Lemme know what classes you guys are thinking about running with.

GM_Panic, yes an Android is allowed as its part of Starfinder Core races!

Also, right now I'm playing with Roll20... I usually run with just making google drive work for me, but I want to hear everyones opinions on this matter. If you got a preference, please let me know!

Sczarni

I've been thinking of the concept I had in mind, and I mentioned I'd be pretty flexible regarding class.

I could go for the more 'knows someone in every port' sort of Envoy, piloting-focused Operative or even a Mechanic - I'm pretty flexible as to what class I'd be potentially playing. All three sounds pretty good for the concept, and I'll be happy to fill in the blanks!

I was initially quite impartial to the 10 point buy and how it works in Starfinder, but then I realised it lets people play any class with any race, and then went all for it.

@GM - No preference on either, I could also do without a map, but I definitely prefer having one.

Almost finished boss, one question though. Any problems with a highly honorable LE priest of the vesk god of conquest?

Havocprince: I have no issues with evil aligned characters!

The lion cleric: I prefer maps, helps expedite battles alot also will want a map for starship battles!

Now he is willing to take any job just to get by till he can rearm and press forth once more in to the stars.

Five essentials
1. Tujonvrek's word is his bond, once given it will not be broken.
2. Tujonvrek is a true follower of Damoritosh.
3. Tujonvrek does not trust Shirren as he believes they are simply subtle agents for the Swarm.

2. The feel of his grandfather's Doshko in his hands, now lost on the surface of Orry.
3. The beauty of the sun rise on Vesk Prime. Some days he misses the home world.

Okay, so... Jacob Carmine
Human Icon Soldier 1

I'm not going to be done copying the stats down before my edit period ends, so sorry if there's a double-post... :/

Backstory:

Jacob carmine is a public figure of a soldier, similar to how commander shepard was in the mass effect series. His bravery during an attack on a human colony put him in the public light, and now he uses it to his advantage.

Five Essential Things:

1- Jacob comes from a long line of military service. His mother and grandmother are notable generals, and his father died in battle with a gang of space pirates.
2- Jacob holds himself up to high standards, comporting himself with professionalism.
3- Jacob was essential in holding a human colony from an attack by the Swarm until Vesk military aid could arrive.
4- Jacob believes that a good soldier will stand and fight for what's right.
5- As much as it is a pain to deal with, Jacob also secretly enjoys being in the limelight.

Two Goals:

1- Recover the Tactical Autobeam Rifle his father lost when he died. While his body had been recovered, the customized weapon was not.
2- Achieve great fame throughout the pact worlds (and beyond).

Two Secrets:

1- During the battle with the swarm, Slade had crumpled under the pressure and tried to flee. The rest of the squad had died before reporting it, so Carmine covered it up claiming she had been injured instead. He didn't want her to ruin her otherwise good record, even if such an action would have been understood, considering the situation.
2- His superiors had known about the presence of the swarm in the system, yet due to budget concerns sent an undersized patrol hedging their bets that the swarm wouldn't care about a single small colony. His mother was a commander at the time, and knows about this.

Three People:

1- Grandmother Carmine (Neutral): While able to offer familial support, she is strictly incapable of providing any professional or military support whatsoever. She does think his actions are great for improving recruitment efforts (as a public figure), but also worries his actions encourage reckless behavior in the troops.
2- Sirhalion (Enemy): Sirhalion leads a pirate gang called 'Silver Hellions'. He is the one who killed Jacob's father and is a general thorn in the pact world's side. He knows Jacob's publically called him out and is ignoring it because it amuses him to see the kid search.
3- Captain Valerie Slade (positive): Jacob's primary contact on Absalom station, she and him have a playful, yet platonic banter. She was the only other serviceman to survive the Swarm's attack on the human colony that propelled Jacob into fame.

Three Memories:

1- The first day of boot: Jacob Carmine had been anticipating joining military service his entire life, and remembers the enthusiasm he felt on the first day with pride.
2- The Swarm: Carmine was part of a fifteen-man squad on patrol near an outlying human colony when a branch of the swarm attacked. The squad fought and died protecting the evacuation efforts, and it had been down to Carmine and Slade by the time Vesk battlecruisers arrived to fight back the swarm. Carmine was in the thick of the fighting the entire time and was witnessed fighting impossible odds to save every life he could. Those battles, and deaths, still give him occasional nightmares.
3- The first crowd of fans he ever made a public appearance for. It gave him hope that he could also do more for the pact worlds not just as a soldier, but as a symbol.

Here is the character!

By 'anything in the book' I assume you're allowing the Chapter 13 'Legacy' races?

Vinsomner wrote:

@spinningdice: Yes :)

Sczarni

So, I know we're all in the recruitment/interest check stage at the moment, but what kind of adventure are people looking for?

There's plenty of media in the sci-fi genre, so which one is what you're mostly leaning towards? Just curious!

Also, the general question about 'larger than life' versus more realistic setting? Which one do you guys prefer?

Sczarni

Very interested...still reading through the core rules, but an operative pilot seems like a fun charactrr, perhaps a Shireen or Lashunta...

@psionichamster: I vote Shirren... but im partial to insect/reptile races haha.

@The Lion Cleric: I prefer a nice fantasy to my sci-fi. Hard sci-fi tends to be a bit harder to work with (I've tried running a hard sci-fi before and it failed). There wasn't much wanderlust or great ways to make the 'realistic' parts fun. Mainly that's me and my doing hah.

Buuuut thats my 2-cents, I have a nice epic campaign planned (still adding to it) but I do have some great ideas that I'm going to try out!

Hard sci-fi works in military games and horror, not so much something this setting does well.

Is my character an acceptable submission for your homebrew game? I can always make adjustments.

rungok wrote:

Nothing wrong with building a character after a game character, my wife actually modeled hers in our starfinder in person game after her Sara Ryder in Andromeda!

Havocprince wrote:

I agree, Starfinder lends it more to a fantasy style then hard sci-fi.

I actually really liked Andromeda. And I will totally be taking the Jet-Dash feat when I get the chance so I can have that kind of movement boosts like they had in the Andromeda Initiative! (Jump Jets would be a cool purchase, too)

So far...

Havocprince: Tujonvrek, LE Male Vesk Soldier (Priest) 1

rungok: Jacob Carmine, N Male Human Soldier (Icon) 1

The Lion Cleric: Molly Bakir, ? Female ? ? (?) 1 [Human or Halfling, Envoy or Mechanic or Operative]

Interest Expressed:
Stellarcell
F. Castor (probably Android Operative or Human Soldier)
Joynt Jezebel
Loup Blanc (probably Mechanic)
MrGompers
EmissaryOfTheNorth (probably Exocortex Mechanic, Elf or Ysoki)
Gnomezrule
GM_Panic (probably Android, class unknown)
spinningdice
psionichamster (probably Operative, Lashunta or Shirren)

Dark Archive

Well, it's a work in progress, but Deliya - Elven Envoy is mechanically complete, bar equipment.

Sczarni

I'll admit, I've mostly got experience with 'hard' sci-fi, so this will be a welcome change!

I've been doing a lot of reading on starships and starship combat, and I think I'd definitely want to get involved on that, eventually, since it looks like Paizo actually made it good (looking at you, Skull and Shackles ship combat) this time. I may have also designed a ship.

I love the vague-ness F. Castor made, but I've decided Molly would be human, as funny it would be to have an ornery halfling hag on board. As for the role, I think the concept is flexible enough to let me fill in the party's skill gaps once I'm (hopefully) in, and written well enough to warrant consideration.

I also like how Starfinder made skills quite a lot more important! All in all, I'm pleasantly surprised by it, and I'm definitely looking forward for the game.

Coming online in 5...4...3...2...1
"Good Morning, My name is Canestor - 49. You may and I hope you call me Cane. As it is my preferred name choice."
I am so pumped for this

five things:
1. Canestor-49 is approximately 6’4”, 174lbs, and 27 years old. What this means for Canestor is that he remembers being in this form for a total of 27 years. He does not know much about his creation since there have been 48 incarnations of Canestor before his soul took ownership over this body.
2. Canestor-49 usually goes by “Cane” when out in social situations and not at “work”. He follows the deity Triune, the AI God of the Pact Worlds. He believes that his previous incarnations have each fulfilled their life goal, which is why they moved on, while Cane feels that his life has been nothing but paper pushing.
3. Cane works for a legitimate? (maybe) Vesk mining company. Or so he thinks. He pushes the paper and continually keeps their books and records clean when different Vesk workers come in with paperwork from their latest mining jobs and the like. Cane has come across some intercompany memo’s that have let slip that most of these Vesk are indeed hired mercenaries and bounty hunters who claim they are off Absalom Station working on asteroid mining when they are out their subduing and killing wither good or bad men and women.
4. Cane has finally grown tired of the fact that he keeps these Vesk safe when he is really being used as a typewriter for their illegal mercenary guild. Cane has recently (in the past couple months) begun to slip information to the Absalom Station Security about the illegal undertakings of this Vesk “company”.
5. What pushed Cane into the role of an adventurer was really circumstance and not choice. After feeding information to the cops, Cane realized that he was being followed by a couple of the Vesk he saw previously that same day. Once Cane reached home he saw the Vesk coming up the stairwell and without warning, 4 frag grenades flew into his apartment when the Vesk kicked down the door and Cane jumped from the 6th story window. Hoping the fall wouldn’t destroy his body outright, Cane hit soft garbage and ran.
6. He has been out of the spotlight of the Vesk company for a couple months now and feels that he is relatively safe. He has really pledged the rest of his life to some cause that can make up for his unknowingly willful partaking in the illegal actions of the company. He is considered a wanted man by this band of mercenaries and hit-men, but he really was just trying to help the individuals that these bounty hunters were out to kill daily.

goals:
1. I would very much like for Cane to be able to fulfill his goal of making up for his wrongdoings by helping groups of individuals that are marked for death by some sort of mercenary group or bounty hunting group, by giving them the necessary help to defend themselves or keep them in hiding.
2. Cane would love nothing more than to kill the leader of the mercenary crew that was sent to kill him the day he became a wanted man. The Vesk’s name, he believes the two Vesk were sent to kill him by his old boss “Krizshaw Orgor” a heavily augmented Vesk male that kept him working every day under the guise of the “mining industry”

secrets:
1. Cane is marked for death. When he first inhabited the body known as Canestor-49, the previous soul was newly departed and left him with a warning message. The message being that every soul that has inhabited the body Cane currently is in has only lived to the age of 30 years. It was either out of pure choice, when an Android decides to die, they simply relinquish their souls from the vessel. The previous inhabitant had told Cane that you have thirty years to live, and Cane is currently 27. He knows the end is coming. So, it is now his time to live fully.
2. Cane is completely unaware of the fact that he is not only wanted by the mercenary guild that he sold out, but by the Absalom Station Security foundation. The Vesk soldiers that came to kill Cane, once they failed, set up Cane’s apartment to look as if he had killed a human female and skipped town. So now Cane is literally a wanted man and an Outlaw for certain, but he does not know this and fully trusts the police, cops, security he comes across.

people:
1. “Elaine Prodrick” – Elaine is a human female that Cane has known for almost his entire life. While he is not romantically involved with her, she is his best friend. They tend to talk about everything and Cane has told her on multiple occasions what the Vesk company was up to. He fears for her safety now because he hasn’t seen her after he ran from his apartment after the attempted assassination.
2. “Krank – 80” – Krank is an old old old android. He is Canes landlord. Cane did not have many friends, and he took solace and comradery in Krank. The old android would generally come over for dinner, tea, and discussion whenever Cane needed help with whatever he specifically went through that day. Krank is specifically Canes confidant and he is trying to find him while on the run without alerting the company or the police.
3. “Krizshaw Orgor” – The Vesk male that oversees the company. Cane wants him dead. Krizshaw wants Cane dead. In some way, the company will not stop hunting Cane because he gave up important information and secrets that the company needed and wanted hidden, and now Cane wants Krizshaw dead after learning about the hits that were put out towards well to do individuals by the Vesk company.

memories:
1. Cane remembers the hard hours worked for the company that droned on and on and on. This was a time for him to think, and this is when he learned a way to tell individuals feelings. Something most androids are not too good at.
2. Cane can remember the nights he stayed awake very late, drinking and smoking. These are his vices, and keep him out very late most of the time. These memories are some of his fondest, because he enjoys the silence and cold nights.
3. The memory of seeing his home explode behind him as he jumped from the window has awoken something in Cane that now makes him more emotional and more scared than any other android you may have met. This memory has developed into a very serious case of PTSD.

this is my alias for this campaign do my statblock is linked to the profile fyi. hope to start soon and im pumped

Just noticed, when I was building the big lug I put his racial minus in the wrong spot. He should have an int of 8 and a charisma of 10, don't know why I thought it was charisma that took the hit.

Mmm. Looks interesting, although I'm a little confused as to why a character must have an 8 or lower in one ability score. What is your reasoning?

I pulled that back, so its no longer a part of the requirements. I was thinking of having every character have a 'flaw'. It's an optional rule with the core in the ability scores section in character creation.

The idea was that everyones character would be inherently bad at something and this would be represented via the ability scores.

Seeing how this can be uneven depending on the races picked, I decided to pull it back for now.

@Everyone: So far I'm liking the applications and it seems were building up quite the cast. My plan so far is to let this run over labor day weekend. I would like to see most people who have expressed interest to have a character submitted before next Tuesday or at least have a very rough outline of what they are thinking. I think this will give everyone ample time to get everything written up. Also please update the link provided for your character submission! Player Application Sheet Here

@The Lion Cleric: I'm really excited the spaceship combat as well. I'm currently figuring out the best online tool to help for the spaceship combat. I'm actually also writing up a neat little tool that will allow you easily create spaceships on the fly and print out the stat blocks. I'm hoping to have a rough version out by Tuesday next week. This will be a great aid for my DMing and I think it might be very helpful for everyone else.

I'm excited about the skill system as well and how its also more streamlined than Pathfinders.

Bishop, Ysoki Mystic (Star Shaman)

background:

1. Bishop grew up a nomad in a traveling caravan on Akiton where he learned self sufficiency.
2. When Bishop was young his caravan was caught in the middle of a gang war and ended up completely burned to the ground. There was a handful of survivors and Bishop's Uncle Scut was now his only living relation. Bishop and his uncle moved to the city as his uncle was too old to rebuild and start anew on the road.
3. Bishop's uncle was a mystic who drew his power from the stars and the great cosmos. Scut noticed Bishop's love for being under the stars and saw an opportunity to pass on his knowledge to his kin. Bishop quickly soaked up his uncle's teachings and made an easy connection to the power of the stars.
4. Scut passed from old age. Bishop had all his worldly possessions packed up with him at the funeral and went straight to the space docks from the funeral to seek an escape from Akiton.
5. Bishop spent a year employed on a large cargo ship captained by a shirren, T'suru. He started out as a clerk, tracking inventory aboard the ship, but upon witnessing and being impressed by Bishop's mystic powers T'suru gave him more and more responsibility until he was second-in-command aboard the vessel.
6. While employed on this ship Bishop fell in love with a fellow ysoki crewmate, Fena. The feeling frightened him and he jumped ship at the next stop. He has bounced from location to location since.

goals:

1. In his travels, Bishop has encountered several Starfinders and is interested in one day traveling to the Lorespire Complex and joining their ranks, though not until he feels he is better qualified. Every Starfinder he has met has seemed a kindred soul and though he has always been a loner he suspects being a Starfinder will be the best way to serve a greater good and still retain his nomadic lifestyle and freedom.
2. Seek a better understanding of his powers. He suspects his uncle even only had a meager understanding of the true power of the cosmos.

secrets:

1. Bishop's wanderlust actually rubbed off on Fena and she has joined the Starfinder Society since Bishop left.
2. The thought of being tied down to one location frightens Bishop irrationally. He never expects to be in any one spot very long and avoids commitments that could keep him from leaving when he wants.

people:

1. Vin Drat, a space pirate who Bishop had serveral run-ins with aboard T'suru's ship and always thwarted, mostly thanks to Bishop and the advantage his powers give. She knows Bishop left T'suru's crew and has been seeking him out, thinking him to be vulnerable alone and looking for revenge.
2. T'suru, the shirren captain who gave Bishop employment on her ship and the opportunity to leave Akiton. T'suru left Bishop an open invitation to come back to her ship anytime.
3. Fena, a pilot who Bishop fell pretty deeply in love with. She spoke of settling down with him somewhere quiet and the thought scared Bishop. He left her without an explanation.

memories:

1. The stars as he slept under the night sky on the plains in Akiton.
2. The flames engulfing his first home and screams of his friends and family.
3. The face and delicate voice of his first love, Fena.

I have his stats over half done and will be able to post them soon.

Loup Blanc's submission here. It ended up being wildly different from my original concept, because I got another one along the way that I liked a lot. Ten-minute background is in the profile, and I'm hopefully going to get up a little in-character background/RP element as well. Profile image is subject to change if there's a better one available. Let me know if anything needs changed/explained!

I love how you can play the same race and class and come out feeling like both serve completely different purposes. You could probably get sway with having 4 soldiers and a mystic as a party and be fine.

That's what I'm finding really interesting about starfinder. They really made the classes simplified to the point where it's very easy to diverge and create a unique character still with the inclusion of themes.

I agree completely! I think that'll end up being one of my favourite features in Starfinder.

That's Molly's tentative Operative profile up! Like I said before, it's pretty tentative as far as skills or even class goes - I'll be happy to re-work her to better fit once everyone else has their stats done.

Regarding the portrait, you can imagine that finding a portrait for someone in their early fif mid-forties is hard! There's a big gap from late twenties to early sixties. Still, I think that's the best one I could find as of yet, so we'll go with that being her profile picture from X years back. I'll post up a character description at some time during the weekend, since I'm a couple of hours away from a long flight (and several coffees short!)

It's one of my favorite things! I know my soldier and Havocprince's soldier will work together just fine because of how our themes work.

Oh, also the Starfinder SRD is now live!
