The Black Mist (Inactive)

Game Master Vinsomner

It's always dangerous looking past the close space, and traveling the unknown. Danger lurks in the shadows of the vast and the drift. The unknown push many to explore the galaxy, to discover, to plunder, to conquer.

Thus The Expedition has been formed.

I believe I have Bishop completed but let me know if I overlooked anything. I also hope they add some Starfinder alias icons soon because the ugly "rat folk" ones don't do the ysoki justice. Very excited for this though!

Liberty's Edge

Deliyah should be pretty much finished up.

Dot. Very interested. I'm GMing the Dead Suns AP so getting into a homebrew campaign would be fantastic. I see a lot of soldiers, operatives and mechanics are already getting tossed into the mix, so I'll look at technomancer or mystic.

@Snowheart: Technomancer looks pretty cool, wife rolled one up for our in person game. Haven't seen them in action yet but I think it's going to be pretty cool. I do like how some of the technomancer abilities allow you to spell-cast without using up the spell.

@Everyone else: Reminder! Deadline for applications is next tuesday, the day after labor day.

@Deliyah & Bishop: Looking good!

Good to know about the deadline.

About the ship, GM, did you have any ideas about it, or is that a discussion for after the deadline is submitted? I've had some thoughts on the matter, based on experience with SPACE!

The following is what I will be submitting. Still a work in progress, at least his fluff, but he should be ready by Tuesday.

Caleb Rook, a.k.a. Designation "Rook", Adaptable Creation of "Project Chess"

The idea is to use (and sorta refluff) the various class features of an Exocortex Mechanic with a Custom Rig, as well as feats and augmentations, during his leveling up in the game to explain the android and his nanotech being adaptable, self-upgradeable and evolving.

Here we go. Presenting Resk, a ysoki outlaw technomancer.

Narrative Background; an internal monologue as Resk left Akiton:

This is it. I'm free. Done with them. Done with this place. I'm never coming back.

Too bad about Bena. Is it? She'd always treated me nicely, except for that whole "no, you can't leave"-thing. Given that I couldn't really fight when I joined the Scrap Kings, yeah, I guess I owed her. So, yeah, too bad, but those are the breaks. You've got to watch out for number one. If you don't...

Well, if you don't, you wind up like dad. Too bad, dad. We'll get together again someday. I'm glad I told him I was still alive. Might have drunk himself to death if I didn't. Well, if he even noticed I was gone... and he might still drink himself to death. No, think positive. Now that I'm off this rock, I'm going to get rich. I'll send some creds back to support him, then eventually get him off that dunghole, sober him up, and he can be a granddad to my own pups. Just like in Three Vesk and a Lashunta. Boy, that last episode was too funny. Does this ship have a vid library? Need to find where that is.

Hmm. Not sure about these folks I'm traveling with, though. What the hell is he wearing? Uck! Rags. Crawl out of a garbage compactor, bub?

Ten Minute Background:

Five Essential Things
1. Grew up on Akiton; father was a failure of a junk merchant and mother was killed in an accident when he was a pup; Fell in with a criminal gang as an adolescent, seeing it as a path out of the abject poverty that his father lived in; Though he wasn't a particularly good scrapper, the gang appreciated his intelligence and ability to pick out particularly valuable or technologically advanced pieces of loot
2. He is a vid junkie, enjoying the escapism from his previous life of poverty and depression; he abhores alcohol and is completely sober, despising it for what it did to his father; he loves beautiful clothes and grooms himself obsessively, seeing it as a sign of wealth and sophistication
3. He took an unorthodox approach to technology, seeing it not merely as pathways of electrons and code, but as a way to influence and manipulate the fabric of the universe; over time, this developed into his ability to manipulate and shape "magical" effects, something which he knows is just a better understanding of the science of the universe
4. He eventually grew bored with being a common criminal. When the gang leader refused to let him leave, Resk betrayed her, contacting a more powerful gang and letting them know how his own gang had been infringing on their terrority. When the fight came, Resk was nowhere to be found. As far as Resk knows, his old gang has been wiped out.
5. He has left Akiton in search of wealth but, secretly, is also longing for friendship and a family; he has no guilt about betraying his gang but does feel bad about leaving his father behind and plans to send credits back to home once he is rich

Two Goals
1. Become "fantastically wealthy", though this is relative to how he grew up in poverty. For Resk, it will mean never having to worry where his next meal is coming from, having someplace to call home, and nice clothes... clothes will be important.
2. Build a family. Resk comes across as gruff and mercenary, but much like his concept of wealth, he wants what he didn't have as a pup: a stable and loving family like he sees in the vids.

Two Secrets
1. He never tells anyone that he betrayed his old gang. Even if someone else might not judge him harshly for backstabbing a bunch of criminals, he sees it as betraying a family of choice. And those who betray their families would betray anyone.
2. Bena managed to survive, albeit with horrible scars and needing cybernetic replacements for much of her body. If/when she finds out who betrayed her, Resk is in trouble.

Three People (Or sentient beings)
1. Bena "Long Claws" - Bena was the leader of the gang that Resk was a member of and then betrayed. All things considered, she'd always treated Resk well but also saw him as too important to let go. She never imagined he would betray her and the gang. If she survived Resk's betrayal, she's probably nursing a huge grudge.
2. Ketch "Empty Pouches" - Resk's father, an alcoholic and failed junk merchant. Though he was unable to provide for Resk and frequently too deep in his flasks to nurture his son, Ketch does love the boy and despondant over his having joined a gang and subsequent disappearance. Resk has sent messages back to his father, though, letting him know he is still alive and will send credits as soon as he is able.
3. Oraeus - A damaya lashunta technomancer and merchant, Oraeus did some blackmarket dealings with Resk's old gang and helped guide Resk in the development of his technomancer abilities.

Three memories
1. His mother's death and his father being so deep in his flask that he was effectively abandoned, driving him to join a gang in order to survive
2. Betraying the gang by sending anonymous tips to the rival gang leader; it took months to arrange in such a fashion that it couldn't be directly traced back to Resk yet was severe enough that a violent reprisal was all but certain, yet timed such that Resk could escape. Though he has some guilt over what happened, he is also proud of how he planned it.
3. Booking passage on the ship that left Akiton and looking back on the planet "for the last time". He has vowed to never return to the failed planet.

Sczarni

Changing things up, going with an ysoki ace pilot operative. Crunch coming along nicely, may have the completed PC up this evening.

It looks like I might have a bit of a tough time picking! Playing with an evil idea buuut not too sure if it would work out well.

Oh? Depends on how you execute it, but without details I couldn't help any further. :P

Good luck everyone!

I have a highly skilled Pilot if one is needed.

And my guy is finally complete, crunch and fluff both. Here you go.

Caleb Rook

I've always wanted to try this idea out, but again, this is just a rough idea.

Really you have two groups of players, playing in the same game, same universe. What one does, affects the others in some way, ultimately being two player groups competing or helping each other in some way. Traditionally it would be more like an Good vs Evil kind of scenario.

Again, super rough idea but that's been on my mind the last month or so.

The applications are looking great so far by the way!

Umm...

Having briefly been part of such a game here on the forums and following it after I left (RL time constraints at the time), I would strongly advise against it.

Long story short, the PvP aspect and the fact that (seeing as how you basically had opposing groups going after the same goal) there eventually was inevitable direct conflict between the groups IC caused the game to more or less implode as it spilled over in OOC due to different rules interpretations, the simple fact that nobody wanted to, well, lose and different player temperaments and playstyles.

And this was with a game system (Star Wars Saga Edition) that had been around for quite some time and people were very familiar with its rules, a thing Starfinder does not have going for it at the moment.

You echoed my concerns, and thus why it's a evil idea that I don't think would work well at all. Especially with this being my first run with Starfinder on the forums I think it would get really messy, really quickly.

So no worries, I'm not even leaning towards doing it, I have my own strong reservations against it as well :)

I'm sure the GM can come up with evil ideas aplenty to make up for it!

I've added Molly's appearance tab, and worked out the kinks. And also, waiting for the deadline at the edge of my seat.

Good luck!

So, today is the day, is it? Good luck everyone!

Today IS the day! I will take the next few hours reviewing applications.

For those who have shown interest and haven't applied, you got the next 4 hours ish to get your characters finalized. I will ONLY consider finalized characters unless you specifically state that your character class/theme might change upon the group needs. I still require you to have your 10-min background minimum filled out.

Please review the Character Application Sheet

I have updated if your character application passes the initial check and if not I gave a reason why.

You have at least 3 hours from this post to get your character fixed up or posted!

Hey just a heads up, Bishop's theme is spacefearer. You have it listed as "star shaman" on the application sheet which is actually his mystic connection. I don't know if it matters but I wanted to keep it straight and cause less confusion since we are all learning the new rules and terms. ;)

Op, my mistake I wrote down the wrong thing and never caught myself. Thank you!

Oh, I'm so excited I cannot wait till selection is done.

It was incredibly tough choosing, but I have made my final choices for the starfinder campaign!

The accepted players are:

The Lion Cleric as Molly Bakir

Stellarcell as Bishop

F. Castor as Caleb Rook

HavocPrince as Tujonvrek

MrGompers as Canestor - 49

rungok as Jacob Carmine

Congratulations!

I also want to thank everyone who applied and spent their time on their character creation!

You're Welcome. Thank you for considering my character.

Congrats to those who got in. Enjoy!

Congratulations all, and have a fun game!

Dark Archive

Congratulations, stars shine brightly upon you all.
