Galonor the Mighty |
Long time no see Kuey.
Sinec Gadrielle and I are very tanky frontliners, perhaps the kineticist brings the most variety, but I wouldn't turn away the half-orc either. Galonor is happy to have more half-orc friends. :P
Zifan the Graceful |
More drinking eh Galonor.
Glad to see you joining us Kuey. I have no preference on which one you bring. Whatever sounds fun to you.
It would be interesting to have an entire party of kineticists. Each one taking a different element or build type. They would probably just roll over all the enemies.
GM DevilDoc |
^^^ This sounds like nothing more than a really awful migraine from this side of the screen.. but I can imagine it would be amazing from the players perspective!
As soon as Kuey is ready, we will get moving. I hope to put up the first post Friday night from work if not sooner.
kuey |
Alrightee, then! I'll go with the geo kinetic knight, then! I should have his full character sheet up by tonight once I get home and get into hero lab. I pretty much know exactly how I'm building so won't take long. Warpriests have quite a bit of resource tracking to do, and I think that might give me a headache for a long dungeon crawl. :)
Kardas Ruknaarr |
(This is kuey)
Meet Kardas Ruknaarr, hailing from the Five King Mountains, an acolyte of Torag, son of the high priestess. His ability of manipulating stone and earth manifested shortly after birth, and he was hailed as a miracle made flesh by the god himself. His parents, brimming with pride, schooled him since young on his responsibility to make use of his divine gift in service to the temple and to the clan, combining his unique ability with traditional dwarven art of warfare.
GM DevilDoc |
Ok everyone! First post is up and maps link is active. Please fill out the first slide on the maps link for me. I will need init, perception, and character icon/marching order please!!
Since we have everyone squared away, what protocol do you want for entering a room? I will be doing my best to *NOT* allow doors (both literal and figurative) slow this progression down. As part of this, I will be rolling perceptions when entering a room and when otherwise appropriate. This may be as you enter, and it may be after you kill whatever is in the room.. whatever suits the situation.
Mikhail Ximenez |
Done. In addition to taking the liberty of tinkering with where others have been placed, I've taken position #4, since this character tends toward the front lines, but not as much as the three in front of me.
Galonor the Mighty |
I take no exception to the marching order. Works for me.
I'm also alright with GM having to roll perception wherever appropriate. Perhaps a protocol for exploration is always the left most path?
GM DevilDoc |
Left most path is fine with me. What about special skills or abilities? Who has and is going to use detect magic, traps, disable device, etc? Preferences for stealth?
To be honest, I have not had the time to look over any of your characters yet.. so I only have a base understanding of who is bringing what so far. I hope to rectify this problem over the weekend, but lets also discuss this.
Kardas Ruknaarr |
Kardas has no special abilities related to dungeon crawling.
Kardas Ruknaarr |
Well, at least for now. At some point in time (level 6), I hope to get tremorsense, which would be useful to sense things behind doors.
GM DevilDoc |
Sounds pretty plain and vanilla for the first round of this thing so far. Got ya!!
Once everyone has posted in gameplay, I will take that as my cue that everyone is good to go and we can move forward.
Thank you to the four that filled out the template.. still have two missing though.
Zifan the Graceful |
I have disable device at +4. I'm guessing someone has a better modifier than I do.
I can keep detect magic going, and will cast it at any door we come to.
Mikhail Ximenez |
Does anyone have a healing wand? I can spend 1 Prestige for a scroll of cure light wounds X6, but of course that's not as good as a 2-Prestige wand.
GM DevilDoc |
That's fine by me! Just waiting for Fuzz to post in and I will move us on!
Petromyscus "Chinchi" Spalaxchi |
Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays!
Just catching up from a whirlwind trip around the midwest in ice and snow!
Welcome kuey!
Looks like someone was kind enough to fill in my stats for init and perception - thanks!
I have Disable Device +6 - and some thieves tools. So happy to step up to open locks, disable traps, etc.
Mikhail Ximenez |
Okay, this'll be generally important: Do you, GM DevilDoc, consider modifiers to "weapon damage" to encompass magical/supernatural/paranormal attacks that require attack rolls (such as acid splash/scorching ray/Kinetic Blasts/yadayadayada)?
GM DevilDoc |
That depends on the situation, but most of these rules are pretty cut and dried as far as what applies and what doesn't. Could you be more specific?
Would those of you who have not done so mind creating a tag line for your character please? If you don't have one, here is a template that you can use. Chinchi: I added in your DD numbers so that I can have them handy as well.
Fe/Male Race Class/ Lvl | / HP | AC: T: FF: | F+ R+ W+ | CMB CMD | SP FT | INIT + | Perc + | Disable Device + |
Mikhail Ximenez |
I'm being pretty specific as is. This is something that I've definitely seen table variation on. Do effects like Inspire Courage lend their damage bonus to spells, like acid splash, that function as ranged touch attacks? What about Kinetic Blasts?
GM DevilDoc |
I made a bit of a blunder already, and forgot about a rather important aspect of the first level. We will not retcon anything, but going forward, this entire map is considered rough terrain due to rubble and debris.
The below is pulled from a sidebar and is in effect for the entire first level unless otherwise specified. Unfortunately, this side bar is buried a few pages in from the beginning and is easily overlooked/forgotten.
Lighting Consumption: Inside the structure, a magical effect swallows up light. Any light source, no matter how strong, illuminates only a 5-foot radius. The Azlanti builders created this magical effect to activate once night had fallen, but it is permanently stuck in its night setting. Anything beyond the 5-foot area is darkness. Ranged combat and melee attacks with reach have a 50% miss chance unless the attacker has darkvision. Creatures without darkvision take a –4 penalty on Perception checks that rely on sight.
Rubble: The tower around the Spire is one big ruin, with
debris strewn across the floors. This is difficult terrain (Pathfinder
RPG Core Rulebook 193)
Ceilings: In hallways, the ceilings are 10 feet high. In rooms, they extend 20 feet high.
GM DevilDoc |
My apologies. Looks like your last post came in while I was typing mine, and I didn't see it.
"Modifier to weapon damage" is a pretty broad stroke, but as far as Inspire Courage is concerned, yes it works for you. My understanding is that both a kinetic blast and spells that require attack rolls are influenced by the Inspire Courage.
GM DevilDoc |
IHIYC: If you come across this again, You can use this to try and get a more favorable ruling. It's not exactly Paizo staff, nor was it ever FAQ approved, but it is one of the developers adding some insight to the situation. That entire page has some pretty good debate points!
GM DevilDoc |
I am good with "powering through" from room to room if you want, but I also want to offer up a chance for RP and healing as well. I pushed yall through from combat to opening the door, checking the tower room, and into the next room in line but I know that there is some healing needed and wanted everyone to be ready. Not that its much of a hint, but I am good with pushing yall through unless it is pushing you into back to back combats. In that case, I will let everyone catch up before posting the new combat.
How does that sound to everyone?
Mikhail Ximenez |
I certainly don't want that. For my part, if I'm being at all lackluster, it's because I'm seriously depressed. I have been for many years now, and it just keeps getting worse - nonetheless, I wanna do this, and NOT half-assedly!
GM DevilDoc |
I am sorry to hear this, IHIYC.. and I really do hope that you manage to get through this chapter of it. I am not unfamiliar with that fight, either personally nor professionally.
As for the rest, that is the reason I stopped.. so that it doesn't just become a half assed chronicle harvest. This is going to be hard enough on me with combat after combat without having yall break up the story here and there and let me take a back seat for a moment!!
Routine room pushing is one thing. I don't want to drag out a week or more of posting like "I open the door" "Room is Emtpy" "I move to the next door and open it" "Room is empty". I can do blocks or sections of the map as long as there is nothing of import and yall can add your color and flavor to everything as you catch up. Like now. We finished the combat, Galonor indicated movement, and I gave the next couple of rooms. Now yall catch up/Heal up/do your thing, and once everyone has posted I can move us on again. I think this should be a good balance between NOT dragging and slogging along and not moving too fast either.
Galonor the Mighty |
That is fair :) I believe you have the game in everyone's best interest and I respect that. I probably am getting a little bit excited and ahead of myself! I have some free time this weekend, so I've been lurking on the forum a bit more than I should be!
Petromyscus "Chinchi" Spalaxchi |
I am good either way. I find GM's each have their own pace and process, and I, for one, am usually happy with the variety! What I have found, though, is that if you try to do things in a way you aren't comfortable with, it strips much of the enjoyment - and this is a game meant to entertain everyone, GM included!
So far, I am more than happy with the pace and process, so I say keep doing how your doing. :)
kuey |
Dear all, apologise in advance for any confusion. I've decided to play another character instead of Kardas the dwarf for this campaign, and have gotten the GM's clearance. Will introduce Uhvat Balanos, the oread spiritualist (ectoplasmatist) in the gameplay thread. Playstyle will be largely similarly. Direct melee for lower levels, reach attacks at higher.
GM DevilDoc |
Thanks yall.
Galonor: I very much try to have the games best interest. I may not be the best story teller around here, but I do try.
Chinchi: That's the balance I am trying to find here. I'm looking for the fun!!
Gadrielle Credenza |
Sorry for the delay, first week back is always a little weird.
Uhvat Balanos |
Dear all, really sorry. A crisis came up at work this week and things are a bit crazy right now. I just got home from a 16hr day today, and things don't look like they will improve just yet. Please bot me freely. I believe the situation will improve past this weekend.
GM DevilDoc |
hey guys, if you could please Pop Over Here and fill out your reporting information for me, I would greatly appreciate it.
Galonor the Mighty |
Note for Galonor reporting: I have mistakenly used the PFS alias to create an alias for a non-PFS pbp a long time back. As such would like to use that PFS number for Galonor. So reporting it will not show up as Galonor but as 'Torcet'.
Mikhail Ximenez |
I seem to have f!&@ed up my "PFS#" square, and now I'm not sure how to fix it.
Profession (Mason): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17 I'll use my folio reroll on that if I don't use it elsewhere first
Please bear in mind that Mikhail will be charging off at the end of this level when someone two kingdoms over abruptly declares that he "didn't expect the Inquisition"....
GM DevilDoc |
I am going to depart from Society rules a little bit here. Are we running this in Campaign mode? No. However, there are things that I will allow you to carry over from one level to another due to the nature of this dungeon and the fact that we are planning on running through multiple levels together. I will allow SOME magical items that you find to pass from one level to another. This will include any Cure wands or potions that you may find. There is also something called a "Spire Token" that should you find and identify it, will be allowed to be kept between levels. Once you identify this, you will understand why I almost have to allow this item. Anything else will be handled on a case by case basis but will be doubtful.
Of course, anything that is found and kept here WILL NOT transfer out of this game. I can only go so far and still keep yall legal for Society play!
