We should more than "consider" - I'm a tad surprised we haven't already done it. I know of no reason, for that matter, that GM DevilDoc couldn't take the reins back from the proxy DM after in the event of a triumphant return, so what has anyone got to lose?

I think the GM has just gotten swamped and will likely be back before too much longer. I won't object to anyone looking for an assist, but I think Emerald spire is a big ask for a replacement GM. I am happy to give DevilDoc another week to get clear before looking hard though.

I'd like to give him another week, and then we can go looking. I agree Emerald Spire is a huge ask for a replacement.
We are a fantastic active group which might help in the hunt.

If that's really fine with the rest of you, it's fine with me.

Yeah, I've been with him since the very start of my pbp experience a while back and know he's had challenges now and then but always pulls through coming back. Waiting another week wouldn't harm for me.

I'm fine to wait for another week.

I saw someone was posting recruitment for players in a new run for Emerald Spire - I offered him us as a ready made group, but haven't seen a response yet he declined.
But yes, I agree it is time...

Yeah, sorry about that, I wanted to do a full run from the bottom floor and I didn't want to tell the players I already recruited that I was cancelling my thread.

Oh, yeah - certainly no problem! I figured it was a long shot :)
Good luck on your run.

Welcome, as a take over DM, I will want to know a few things.
1. Any traps you triggered or noise you made that would cause monsters to be misplaced, or runaway monsters that would cause them to not be in their spots?
2. Anything the previous DM did that you would like me to do?
3. How many in game days have your characters been in this dungeon? Did they leave at any point and return?
4. Anything you'd like to see from me as the DM?
5. Anything else I should know?
Zifan the Graceful
|
No there isn't any noise that would cause the monsters to be misplaced.
We've rested between levels. We're running this like PFS scenarios. So after each level is clear we get a chance to rest, purchase and level up. We have not rested on this level. We are also doing the land rush portion of the game.
It's really important to me that the rounds are tracked clearly, and that room descriptions are clear. I get lost when a GM only puts the damage in with the rolls, and doesn't lay it out and keep a running total.
We role play. A lot. I've played for you before, and that didn't appear to be a high priority in that game. That's what's making this game so fun for me is the balance between role playing and the module.
DoubleGold
For me to roleplay with you, there will have to be NPCs for me to roleplay with you. Obviously the game will have NPCs that will try to kill you, that is a given, but very little interactive NPCs.
Edit: I can give descriptive scenes, make things seem intense, add flavor in scenes even non-combat ones. Give combat descriptions, like he shoot the arrow deep into the arm, causing the man to scream with pain with a big "oww"

Hello, DoubleGold.
First, I would like to thank you for your offer to take over and your enthusiasm to jump right in. However, I think you may have jumped the gun a little here.
Before selecting a new GM, we would like to ask some questions, get to know the candidates, and then make a decision as a group. This is a long running team with a specific flair and a fair amount of history together, and so I think we want to choose a GM that will meet all of our criteria.
Toward that end, can you tell us a little about yourself? Also, do you have a campaign or two that we can look at to get a sense of your style and approach? I would also like to ask why you are interested in taking over this campaign.
Thank you!

My playstle changed over the years. Take a look at my currently dmed games, Temple of the Twelve and Against the Aeon Thrones. These are more accurate of how I'd be Dming.
What do you want to know about me? The rundown of my life, my history of D&D?
I'm DoubleGold, I'm your average guy. I've been playing D&D since 2007 and I started with 4th edition, but been Dming since Feb 2014 starting with Pathfinder. I work at a grocery store. I have a BS Degree in Accounting. I'm in my 30s, never been married, got no children. I'm a Good Christian

Double Gold, I feel bad about writing this, especially since I really appreciate you jumping in when we need help. I don’t think I’ve played with you before, but going by the latest posts you’ve made on the gameplay thread, I am not sure that it would fit with what has been happening with the game so far. Really sorry.

The woman in the mask sneaks in.
DG, I think they want to know what's important to you about how you GM. A lot of GMs have a philosophy in how they approach things. Are you about exciting combats? Quirky NPCs? Pacing? Making settings come alive? Bringing out moments from your players back stories and weaving them into your plot? What's most important to you?
They can see some of what you are about from previous campaigns, but I also love hearing from GMs about what they think of their playstyles and what's important to them. I can understand groups trying to find a good fit for a long-running campaign.
(With shorter scenarios that have been abandoned, sometimes groups just want to finish. With longer ones, they might be pickier, willing to wait for someone who's playstyle matches theirs. There are many great ways to play, but you don't want people with different playstyles to clash.)
Like others, I think it's awesome you want to volunteer and help out! Keep that volunteer spirit! But if Playstyles might clash, it's better to make that determination early.
The woman in the mask sneaks out again.

Would you all allow me to finish up Part C for you all if you don't find another DM? Then say if I'm a yeah or nay to stay? You won't be in the middle of a floor that way, and if I'm a nay, it makes it easier for the next DM so he/she doesn't have to take over in the middle of a floor, and if I'm a yay we keep going. It also will give you a glimpse as to how I'll be running this.

If you'd still like for me to GM, I suppose I can run two Emerald Spire towers at the same time. From what I see, my style doesn't appear too different from your previous GM.
If you'd like to look for a different GM, that's cool too, its important you find one with a long game like this that runs in a way you enjoy.
GM Abraham
Looks like ZDF may have you covered, but if not I can also probably jump in to take over, with a couple of caveats: 1) I'm currently running a group that is nearly done with level 2, so I'd prefer to run your table and theirs in tandem, so we'd need to pause a bit for them to catch up; 2) I'm pretty maxed out for the next 2-3 weeks, though as my Gameday tables wrap up things will become more manageable. In short, if you are ok with pausing for 2-3 weeks, I'll be happy to step in and run you through the rest of level 3, and if you like my GM style, through the rest of the Spire.
Our Mysterious Benefactor
I'll throw my GMing hat in the ring, too. Your GM is a player of mine and I know he was having some issues with work and life balance, so if you'd like someone to step in until he feels up to running again, I can do so. I took over his previous GM's game due to a suddenly missing GM and I'm up for doing so again if needed. That thread is here if you'd like to get a sense of my style.
If not, no worries! I'm sure he'll be back soon and that you'll find a great GM either way.

Given that zerodarkfire and Abraham are already running emerald spire I think it might be better if OMB were to pick it up if he's up for it. Thank you all for your enthusiasm!
Our Mysterious Benefactor
I'd be happy to help out. Let me read over the thread and determine exactly where we're at and I'll post up soon.
DG: No problem! I'll do so as soon as I get the thread privileges!

A bit about me: I am a 40 year old guy living in Iowa, USA. I've been playing Pathfinder since it started and thus I get most of the rules wrong, so if you see me doing anything shady, call me on it. Odds are I have no idea. I post frequently during the week and less frequently on weekends.
I enjoy long walks in the corn fields and He Who Walks Behind The Rows still owes me $20.
I've been looking over your Animal Speaker kit, and while I certainly see the appeal, I wonder whether it's the best choice for a character committed to a megadungeon-delve that will surely only get sparser on the "animals" as we descend. Have you considered any other Archetypes that could suit your character as well? I don't mean to tell you what to do, you understand.
Black Sun - sure, but I rarely shoot for most effective character, and instead look for a fun angle to play without being completely useless.
