Danir |
"Ok, let's look at this from another direction- we know that Robin Nimblefingers woorks for the Emerald Claw, correct? And I suspect that there has always been more of a connection than was publically stated between the Emerald Claw and the Blood of Vol- what if Nimblefingers has something to do with the trap that Essar has walked into? Maybe by saving the madman we can also find the thief? Worth a shot- two birds with one stone and all..."
Ebran Asur |
"Well, I didn't get anything better to go off of. As much as the zealot annoys me, I will help him out of whatever offal he has stepped in, if that is what most of the group wants. Surely the citadel has more people they could send as a replacement, if he were to die. But maybe your connected theory has merit..."

Roll initiative.
Merc initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
The merc throws a punch at your face!
Everyone, by the time you reach the tavern, you should see a wonderful, or the beginnings of a wonderful, brawl. Roll initiative.
GM Elton |
Brawling Special Rules:
This brawl is cartoonish and cinematic. Which means, you can improvise weapons like wine bottles, saloon chairs, and tables; and the improvised weapons do as much damage as your regular weapons.
Secondly, you get to call out a stunt. Make your stunt wild and imaginative -- especially one that comes out of Old Westerns, or a Hongywood Movie, or a Swartzeneggar movie and you will be awarded a Hero point based on how imaginative it is. The hero point must be spent immediately to improve your chances with the stunt. Any rules from Monte Cook's Iron Heroes do apply but announce if you are going to use them.
Gravity doesn't work in this brawl, so you can leap from chandelier to chandelier with the best of them.
Finally, most of the Karrns trying to beat Essar's face to a bloody pulp (a pun) are mooks. This means they only have 4 hit points. And they are either up or they are down. Have fun! :)
GM Elton |
As Danir bursts into the chaos of the tavern, he quickly looks around for a weapon to use that is a little less lethal than his morningstar or crossbow, he also tries to pinpoint Essar's location.
[dice=Perception check]1d20+5
All you can assume that the guy at the bar getting his face bashed in looks vaguely like him.
Danir |
As Danir sees Essar getting beaten bloody, he devises a plan, stripping off his cloak, he charges forward towards his lunatic teammate and the group of thugs beating him...
When it is Danir's turn, he will take a move action towards Essar, along the way he will try to wrap his cloak over the head and shoulders of one of his enemies and then pivot, using his weight and momentum and weight to pull the enemy off his feat and spin him around to be launched towards the thugs attacking Essar... Dramatic enough?
Xov |
When Xov's turn comes up...
Ah, so he's managed to piss off a lot of people. Okay, I can do this, I just need to get a bit...closer...
With Vulkoori dexterity, Xov leaped up onto a table, then jumped and grabbed the chandelier. acrobatics: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
"All right,", he muttered, "Let's go!"
As the chandelier swung towards the crowd, Xov leaped towards the next chandelier, so that he was almost on top of the mob.
"Watch this!"
As Xov flew through the air, a cone of light shot out of his body, towards the crowd. Xov cast Color Spray, 15 ft cone, DC 14 will save, aiming to hit as many of the brawlers as possible, and possibly Essar if he is in the way
As he grabbed hold of the next chandelier, he braced himself for another leap...next turn:)
Xov plans to ride the swing of the second chandelier back, towards the first chandelier, where it is safe to drop down.
Essar Kalvin |
used hero point on my Initiative roll, also depending on whether or not the gm ok's negative energy (forgive me if it's obvisous but my brain is being roasted alive in the glorious heat wave that is afflicting my area) I have prepared two actions depending on the gm's ruling
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
action 1 casting negative energy 1d6 ⇒ 5, save dc is 10
action 2 cast command on the center merc, save dc 15
Ebran Asur |
init: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Ebran springs into action, leaping to the bar and then up to grab one of the rafters. Pulling himself up, he swings on a chandelier and from it to another of the rafters, cutting the rope holding the chandelier up so that it falls on a group of the assailants.
acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
"I feel like I'm back on a ship!"
Kyndril Mieren |
I don't really see why we bother with initiative, given that we ignore it anyways, with no real sense of how it goes. *Shrugs* I'm probably going to let you guys handle this, since I really don't want to deal with the chaotic hell that this combat is.
EDIT: Okay, sorry, that looks a little hostile. I apologize. But my feelings are pretty accurately summarized there.
GM Elton |
the one guy tries to save against Essar's blast. [1d20+2]
The guy attacks: [1d20+2]; damage [1d3]
Xov -> [1d20+2] save
ebran -> You make it to a chandelier.
Othan -> spends his action to go into a rage.
Kyndril -> didn't make an action.
Danir -> Attacks! and hits. You didn't make a damage roll?
GM Elton |
so ebran didnt make it off the chandelier to a rafter, and therefore didnt cut the chandelier?
it must be me. I wanted to hurry to class, and . . . it was a let down. My teacher said he showed off my work and . . . nothing. :(
rolls: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 dmg 1d3 ⇒ 3
Essar's channeling save 1d20 ⇒ 15
xov -> 1d20 ⇒ 4
and you did cut down the chandelier and it did fall on the people, you've flattened a good part of the group. too bad customers were included. Such as the way of the brawl. Customers are mooks too, though. ;)
Xov |
So the mooks who failed their save against color spray are unconscious for 2d4 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4 rounds, then blinded and stunned for 1d4 ⇒ 2, then stunned for 1 round.
Xov braced himself as he prepared to let go of the chandelier. At the height of the swing, Xov jumps, then allows energy to surround him. Suddenly, he was floating, away from the mob, towards the first chandelier he had jumped onto Xov uses his Levitate SLA on himself But just before getting out of reach, Xov pulled out his scissors, getting ready to cut the chandelier down onto the crowd. "Watch out, ground-borns!"
Essar Kalvin |
My next action
Essar got out from under the Chandelier and raised his hand, he then began to channel the energy of death itself. When he was done a sickly red haze spread out from his body and it reached to every corner of the room. Those that were touched by it briefly gasped or died as bloody wounds opened up upon their bodies.
channel negative energy damage1d6 ⇒ 6
Danir |
Actually, before Essar channels negative energy and kills a bunch of people, and potentiallly harms us- did he make a save vs. Xov's Colorspray attack? And between Chandelier drop, ColorSpray, and one enemy being thrown at them, how many of the attacker's are still up now?
GM Elton |

No, they are down.
GM Elton |
i was fine with it hahaha. usually i wouldnt be but these are mooks so i am not too worried.
I'm looking for a psd for graphing paper.
-----
Found one psd, a patron was grateful to help me out. I also found out that I need an inn to work with. Just a moment . . .
I'm going to use the Old Skull Inn for this from the Shadowdale book in the 2e FR Campaign.
I might be using it a lot.
Othan |
[i]Othan quickly sizes up the situation. "Kyndril, Xov we need crowd clearance, Danir, Ebran with me to Essar." Othan then charges the guy to the left of him, Danir and Kyndril. He will rush up and over the the table between them, ending with a flying leap and a pair of claws into the mook.
Acrobatics? 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
2 claw attacks 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 71d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 dmg 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 81d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
know that I have cleared all the bad rolls for you guys
Xov |
On my turn...
As Xov floats near the ceiling, he sees a the crowd of thugs below him. Well, I guess I better stay up here, I don't want my face smashed like they were going to do to the crazy cleric! I better make sure we finish this before my levitation wears off! Okay, I can do this...
The Vulkoori focused all his attention on the nearest chandelier--willing it to fall, muttering words of power. Prestidigitation, Xov attempts to break down the rope holding the chandelier
"One crowd clearance coming up,"
Xov grins at Othan's words.
