Essar Kalvin, origins:

Essar Kalvin was born of Chelexian refugees who fled their oppressive home country and winded up in Port Peril. He is a first generation native of the shackles but his Chelish heritage, complete to his pale white skin that refuses to tan is still quite evident. Essar's parents died early on and this combined with life on the streets has turned him into an exceptionally shifty and cautious individual.

Path of Ur:

One of Essar's favorite activities as a child was to examine the ruins that dot the land in and near Port Peril. On one of these "expeditions" he found a battered, worn but still quite readable copy of the "Path of Ur", one of the most heretical books ever written. Within this book is contained the secrets of how to steal divine magic itself, why worship when you can steal? This alone makes the book hated by every religion, from the self righteous Iomedians to the sacrilegious followers of Asmodeus and everything in between this book is heretical.

Yet it is also true, the secrets to stealing divinity however are not all that Ur put into these books either. In addition to stealing divine magic the book also teaches how to mold it in ways that most can't. It also teaches the ways of the religious and ways to fool them as to the source of the user's magic. It also is a treatise on atheism (once again another damning strike against it by the standard of every religion) and reasons that if the gods are so "powerful" then why can a simple, weak mortal steal their magic?

Essar learned quickly and begin to cast divine spells by the age of fourteen, from then on he made a relatively comfortable existence as a healer for hire although in truth he knew nothing about the healing arts. Fortunately his magical healing of wounds was the most common service requested.

Personality:

Essar is a cautious individual, even some would say a paranoid one. He has every right to be however, his kind are hated by every religion. Even the most hateful of religious enemies such as Urgoatha and Iomedae worshippers will band together to hunt down a man on the path of Ur if they learn of him. As such he is a very "quick" individual and can be a bit "proactive" about dealing with threats and so forth. He also has an instinctive sense of danger that has served him well.

Essar is also a fairly learned man, not just because he enjoys it but because it in essential to his survival. He travels the land as a priest of Nethys, a cover that serves him well and deflects suspicion. Nonetheless he is careful and has another lie in place if things go sour, if his guise as a priest of Nethys is blown he will instead admit (grudgingly as if he hates doing so) that he is a priest of Norgorber. Anything but the truth of what he is...

Appearance:

Essar Kalvin is roughly 5.8 feet tall and is thin and wiry, his face is like that of a cunning snake or weasel depending on who you ask. His hair is black and he has a small goatee and quick, black eyes. He wears a simple set of robes in the black and white colors of Nethys over studded leather armor. He carries a quarterstaff in his hands and has a digger hidden in the folds of his robes. On his back he has a crossbow clipped and a small quiver containing ten bolts.
