Male Human Warhammer 40K GM

Late posts tonight, ended up working an overnight shift.

Hrothgar looks good Rad, I will go over him more thoroughly once I settle on the character sheets to use for the wiki.

Got my hands on Deathwatch. What a gorgeous book. The art is fantastic.

Do I have the team roster right so far?

Space Wolf Assault Marine (Radavel)
Blood Angle Apothecary (Davi)
Dark Angel Librarian (Balfic-graa)
Storm Warden Tactical (Catman)
Ultramarine Devastator (Lorm)
#6 Unknown?? Black Templar chapter??
Unknown chapter Techmarine (Eradico)

Looks pretty complete to me, a nice kill-team forming up.

I'm all in as a techmarine. I'm wondering which chapters are still available to me. I love the idea that Deathwatch squads are mixed chapters. There's only six "official" player-character chapters listed in the core rulebook. Rookseye, are there any others made available in the Emperor Protects expansion/adventure book? We might have an overlap in chapters with seven members. Or Rookseye would you be willing to generate special stats for some other chapter? (Imperial Fists? Salamanders? A Second Founding Chapter?) I'm open to anything.

I'll be Black Templar but I hope our librarian doesn't mind if I treat him (at least initially) as anathema when role-playing!

Eradico, unfortunately the Emperor Protects doesn't appear to have any additional Chapters. I'm guessing the next book in the series, Rites of Battle, will be the equivalent of the Inquisitor's Handbook, and have some new character options. I'm not averse to generating abilities and such if you have your heart set on another chapter or successor chapter that is not listed, but would like to keep it limited to one or two characters in the group. The Lexicanum provides a wealth of information about the various chapters of the Adeptus Astartes, and although I will admit I am not as steeped in some chapters' lore as I could be, I'll make the effort to do so if it is someone preference to build their own.

Hey Balfic, Uriah tried to save Savalos' mom. He even spent a FP, and gained a CP doing it.

It was a worthy effort, Lorm, but Ariella was more a casualty of the story at this point than anything else. She'll live on in Savalos' memory (and in Uriah, after a fashion, as you will soon see.)

Male Catfolk Shade (magically altered human) Monk-8, Mage-16

I figured it was a part of the plot, Rook, but Uriah could not help but try to save her, even though he knew it was divined. I was wondering how much of her would stay with Uriah.

Rookseye, no worries. After reading the core rulebook and lexicanum in more detail, I'm fine with choosing one of the six chapters listed in Deathwatch. I thought it might not be cool to double-up and have more than one kill team member from the same chapter. But some chapters (Ultramarines, for example) have more members in Deathwatch than others.

I'm thinking I'll choose Black Templar, especially since no one else has at this point. Thanks!

No worries about you being a Black Templar. I have thick skin. Besides I will already have my hands full with Rad playing a Space Wolf Lol.

haha! yeah... the Dark Angel and Space Wolf will get along juuuuust fine! Seems like the Librarian is already shaping up as the team "favorite"! ;)

And Rookseye, I don't know if this will help but here's a character sheet template I found online:

The chapter rivalries are rife with roleplaying opportunities.

Thanks, Eradico, that sheet looks pretty good for our needs. I was debating whether or not to do a form-field of the official sheet like I did with the DH ones, but this should save me some work.

Once everyone has completed character generation, I will fill out the sheets with the information and post them to the wiki with some early campaign background.

So, how does it feel, being the leader of a major gang?

Oh, and Brother Sepheren should be done now.

Balfic-graa, you might not know this but you get ONE re-roll of your 9 initial characteristic rolls. Bonus!

Male Half-Orc 9th lvl Cleric, 4th lvl Ninja, 1st lvl Black Flame Zealot

Yeah I saw it, just wasn't sure if I wanted to take the chance. I have a habit of rolling worse on rerolls.

Rookseye,

Here's something else that might help w/campaign bookkeeping:

Deathwatch Character Advances.

It's a spreadsheet you can download and keep track of various advancements on. It would require some tweaking but I could maybe help with that to make life a little easier for you.

Black Templar Techmarine

For now this is my techmarine avatar. Kinda limited on the choices. I'll start uploading stats tonight.

--Eradico

Male Catfolk Shade (magically altered human) Monk-8, Mage-16

I feel it. Like I said, I went through all 35 pages to find one that worked.

Male Storm warden Tactical Marine

Ok here is my Marine still need to do rolls and all of that.

Rook, if I get a free re-roll of the Agility then my roll is

Spoiler:

OK Rad, I'll note it in the final sheet.

Since the characters are rolling in now, I will soon be compiling them and posting them to the wiki for review. I am at work for a double shift today (Snowpocalypse in New England right now), so do not have ready access to the core rule book, but hope to have them up for the weekend. Once I get some downtime here I'll post some Oremor Affliction (including Vincent's post that got eaten yesterday) and start transferring stats to .pdf sheets for DH.

One consistent beef (that I share) is the lack of good avatars on Paizo for this sort of thing, so if anyone has an alternate piece of art to depict their character, please feel free to email it to me

Spoiler:
rookseye at yahoo dot com
and I will use it for the character dossiers on the wiki.

The Kill-Team Roster so far:

Brother Hrothgar, Space Wolf Assault Marine (Radavel)
Brother Sepheren, Blood Angel Apothecary (Davi)
Brother Emeric, Black Templar Techmarine (Eradico)
Brother ?, Dark Angel Librarian (Balfic-graa)
Brother Caledonii, Storm Warden Tactical (Catman)
Brother Quintus, Ultramarine Devastator (Lorm)
Brother ?, TBD, (Ellipsis)

Dark Angel Librarian

Okay here is my guy. Still need to add equipment, but I can flesh that out later.

FYI, I need to make some minor changes and spend my 1,000 starting experience.

I will also email the pdf of my character sheet in hopes of saving you a little work.

Do I need to worry about starting requisition right now? Should I take a minimal (50?) amount of arms and equipment?

Thanks Rook.

No need to fill out the .pdf yet, Eradico. My inner OCD took over last night during my endless shift and I made my own form-field sheet off the one from the website. I also did a form-field for the Solo/Squad mode sheet from the core book. I will post links to them on the wiki later today, and you can back-fill the sheet then if you want.

Please spend the 1,000 points of discretionary XP you get at character creation, but please note here what you spend the advances on. I am planning on keeping a separate master sheet to track advances for everyone, as with all of the advance tables in Deatwatch things can overlap a bit.

Rook, I took two weapon wielder (ballistic, melee).

OK, for anyone who wants to transfer their Deathwatch character over to a writable .pdf sheet, here they are: Autoquill Repository

You will likely need a copy of CutePDF Formfiller to save your data in the form, it can be found as freeware here: CutePDF

Please save a copy for your own use and email me one for the wiki

I believe all of the form-fields and tab settings on the forms are correct, but if you encounter any problems with them let me know and I will correct them.

Rook, how much equipment can each of us requisition?

Hold off on requisitioned equipment for now, Rad. I'm still debating how I will be starting the campaign (straight into Emperor Protects or with a smaller intro mission), but I will let you know soon.

I'm going to go with a Dark Angel's Devastator Marine, should be fair change of pace from my existing characters. I'll put up an alias when I have the time, but here are the rolls:

Weapon Skill 2d10=13
Ballistic Skill 2d10=11
Strength 2d10=9
Toughness 2d10=15
Agility 2d10=8
Intelligence 2d10=14
Perception 2d10=5
Willpower 2d10=15
Fellowship 2d10=16
Wounds 1d5=5
Fate Points 1d10=5
Power Armour History 1d10=3
Re-roll Perception 2d10=8

Thanks Rook.

And with Ellipsis' choice of a devastator marine, our team's fighting prowess is clearly slanted in favor of the medium to long range. Just bring along some close quarters gear, guys, in case we have to go dungeon crawling.

Black Templar Techmarine

Rookseye,

I spent my 1,000 xp on the following:

Techmarine Menu: Int +5 (200) -- raised my score to 45
Techmarine Menu: Security (400)
Deathwatch Menu: Ciphers, Xenos (200)
Black Templar Menu: Interrogation (200)

Here is my marine, spent XP is noted on the sheet.

Black Templar Techmarine

Hey team,

On p. 169 there's a section titled "Chapter Trappings." If you haven't chosen some chapter-appropriate heraldry check it out.

The Black Templar chooses Devotion Chain!

Rookseye,

I'll have a completed character pdf and picture to you by tonight.

Male Catfolk Shade (magically altered human) Monk-8, Mage-16

Eradico, if I read it right, we are not allowed to take Deathwatch advances at first rank, only chapter, specialty, and general advances.

Black Templar Techmarine
Lorm Dragonheart wrote:

oops! i'll double-check that and take something else... thanks, Lorm.

Hey Lorm,

Can you point me to the rule in question w/regard to available menus? Page 58 reads, "A Deathwatch Space Marine may choose advances for his appropriate rank from his home Chapter Advances, Deathwatch Advances, General Space Marine Advances, and the advances for his Specialty."

I'm assuming that we have already gone through some sort of Deathwatch training and indoctrination since we have trained Deathwatch Common Lore and we are able to have unit cohesion despite our various chapter backgrounds (I have to get along with that Librarian *somehow*!). The Xenos Markings advance was taken off the Deathwatch Rank 1 chart (p. 64) so I'm hoping it's OK w/Rookseye.

That said it's no big deal if I use the points elsewhere.

Can't wait to start dishing out the Emperor's will!

Male Catfolk Shade (magically altered human) Monk-8, Mage-16

It is on pg. 27 under starting experience.

Going to take my advances in Blind Fighting, Resistance Poisons, and Heightened Senses: Sight.

Was a hard choice. Double Team, and Sprint were very tempting.

Your welcome, Eradico.

Thanx Rook. I will spend my XP on Tech Use(100xp), Pilot(Civilian Craft)(100xp), and Rapid Reaction(100xp).

Only 300xp to go for rank 4.

I spent mine on Scholastic Lore (Bureaucracy) (100) and Electo Graft Use (200).

The Joss Wheadon series "Firefly" should spark some ideas. If you haven't seen it, think "Space Western." The main protagonist is basically a rogue trader.
