Round 2
Party Up.

Grand Lodge

M Human HP 8/19, - AC 17/T: 14/FF: 13 - Perception +5 - F: +2/ R: +7/ W: +3 - CMB: +1 - CMD: 15, Speed: 30, Init. +4 Spells/day 1st 1/3

Stevesie shifts one square to the southeast and attacks the cauldron while shouting. "Rigid legs eh? That means that it must be wobbling to walk, so if we place enough heavy objects in it, its stuck, right"

If someone move across from me before my turn (Churdon is the only one moving before me) then I also get a flanking bonus for this attack.Shortsword: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Grand Lodge

Male Aasimar Shaman 2

Don't forget my bless bonus!

Grand Lodge

Male Aasimar Shaman 2

Bless: 9 turns

Kalani moves forward and swings with his morningstar.

Morningstar: 1d20 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 + 1 = 19
Damage: 1d8 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4

"Take that!

Stevesie takes a wild swing, still in awe over what moves the large iron tub. Kalani appeals for divine aid and then crashes his morningstar into the side of the cauldron, but the dense metal doesn't even take a dent.

Grand Lodge

M Dwarf HP 20/20,- AC 17/T:14/FF: 13 - Perception +8 - F: +6/ R: +7/ W: +3 - CMB: +4 - CMD: 18, Speed: 20, Init. +5

Ulfgar casts gravity bow and once again commands Bort to attack the pot.

handle animal: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

Bort races in and bites the pot.

bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Grand Lodge

M Human HP 8/19, - AC 17/T: 14/FF: 13 - Perception +5 - F: +2/ R: +7/ W: +3 - CMB: +1 - CMD: 15, Speed: 30, Init. +4 Spells/day 1st 1/3

*cough* DR5 *cough* this is going to suck with weapons.

Grand Lodge

M Elf Magus/2 HP: 15/17 AC: 18

I attack with my sword and simultaneously cast shocking grasp. Added bless and subtracted penalty for attacking and casting. Also +3 on shocking grasp for metal.

Longsword: 1d20 + 1 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 1 + 1 - 2 = 11
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Shocking Grasp: 1d20 + 1 + 1 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 1 + 1 + 3 - 2 = 19
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3

@Churdon - did you move before doing that? Otherwise casting the spell still provokes an AoO.

Grand Lodge

M Elf Magus/2 HP: 15/17 AC: 18

I moved the round before so I did not move this time.

Ok, that means that the cauldron gets an AoO from casting a spell in a space it threatens:

AoO: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Bite Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Bort manages to slobber all over the iron bowl, but fails to sink his teeth into anything while Churdon summons arcane forces to unleash an arc of electricity while dodging another cha-chomp and missing with his sword. "Angered", the cauldron continues to lash out at him.

bite: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Grab CMB: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

This time the dense rim collapses around the magus and crushing him for 2 damage and maintains his hold. Churdon now has the grappled condition.

Round 3

Party Up!

Grand Lodge

M Human HP 8/19, - AC 17/T: 14/FF: 13 - Perception +5 - F: +2/ R: +7/ W: +3 - CMB: +1 - CMD: 15, Speed: 30, Init. +4 Spells/day 1st 1/3

Stevesie looks around the room for any heavy objects lying around (large stack of books), moves to get those objects and throws them in the cauldron in an attempt to choke the assailant. "Take that you stupid pot." I assume that I will be moving far enough away to provoke an attack of opportunity, but short enough that I can do this all in one turn. Let me know if I have to change this. If there are no objects that are large/bulky/heavy lying around, he throws his backpack(22lb) into the cauldron.

With a 1d6+1 damage roll on a dr5 cauldron I can't do much anyways, and I checked my spells and none of them seem very effective on this. Any other ideas?

Run?

Bless 8 turns

Kalani continues to flank with Bort.

Morningstar: 1d20 - 1 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (13) - 1 + 2 + 1 = 15

Damage: 1d8 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6

Grand Lodge

M Human HP 8/19, - AC 17/T: 14/FF: 13 - Perception +5 - F: +2/ R: +7/ W: +3 - CMB: +1 - CMD: 15, Speed: 30, Init. +4 Spells/day 1st 1/3

lol if we run we had better find the rat tail first while the thing is hitting us before we get outta there. And we can always *cough* use the Theron technique *cough*. I'm not tryna come back here. But like rat's tail, can't we just find a rat and cut off its tail?.

Maybe I'll put this in the discussion section next time

Grand Lodge

Male Aasimar Shaman 2

I think we should try to disengage - Let's back off and see if we can find the witch separately.

Grand Lodge

M Elf Magus/2 HP: 15/17 AC: 18

I attempt to free myself from the grapple.

Grapple: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19

Kalani continues to beat on the cauldron, trying to prove that brute force will triumph, but only in a small dent. Stevesie tosses his backpack at it, but it just bounces off without acknowledgement. Maybe it worked, though, as Churdon is able to break himself free, his arms skinned and red from escaping the vise-like jaws.

Bort?

Grand Lodge

M Dwarf HP 20/20,- AC 17/T:14/FF: 13 - Perception +8 - F: +6/ R: +7/ W: +3 - CMB: +4 - CMD: 18, Speed: 20, Init. +5

Ulfgar, confident in his new magical arrows fires again at the pot.

bow: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
damage: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 3) + 1 = 6

Bort takes a full attack action
claw: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
claw: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Ulfgar's arrow mars the surface of the cauldron while Bort decides to bat playfully at it.

Churdon, Stevesie, Bort, Kalani(4): 1d4 ⇒ 3

Annoyed, the Cauldron attempts to bite back.

bite: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Round 4

Party up.

Grand Lodge

M Human HP 8/19, - AC 17/T: 14/FF: 13 - Perception +5 - F: +2/ R: +7/ W: +3 - CMB: +1 - CMD: 15, Speed: 30, Init. +4 Spells/day 1st 1/3

Stevesie grabs his backpack from the floor and heads for the door, moving six squares to safety.

Grand Lodge

Male Aasimar Shaman 2

Bless 7 turns.
Kalani swings one final time at the cauldron, then retreats.

Morningstar: 1d20 - 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (11) - 1 + 1 + 2 = 13
Damage: 1d8 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1

Kalani disengages (potentially triggering an AOO) and moves back towards the entrance.

AoO: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

I think we can definitely win this fight. However there might be drawbacks from killing the pot if and when we find the witch. So do we all agree to retreat?

Grand Lodge

M Dwarf HP 20/20,- AC 17/T:14/FF: 13 - Perception +8 - F: +6/ R: +7/ W: +3 - CMB: +4 - CMD: 18, Speed: 20, Init. +5

Ulfgar repositions and fires again at the pot while ordering Bort to disengage.

bow: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
damage: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 6) + 1 = 12

Handle Animal(down): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Handle Animal(heel): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

Grand Lodge

Bort stops attacking the pot and decides to sit where it is instead of retreating to the relative safety of his master.

Ulfgar is the first to bring serious damage to the pot, leaving a large dent in the side.

Wait shouldn't that have missed? I rolled a 7 to hit.

Shhh, don't question when the DM makes a mistake that helps us

Waiting on Churdon...

Grand Lodge

M Elf Magus/2 HP: 15/17 AC: 18

I hope he doesn't get more than 1 Attack of Opp. I retreat outside the hut.

1=Bort, 2= Kalani
Target: 1d2 ⇒ 1

bite: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

Bort is oblivious to the attempted attack as Churdon flees the hut.

Round 4

Grand Lodge

M Human HP 8/19, - AC 17/T: 14/FF: 13 - Perception +5 - F: +2/ R: +7/ W: +3 - CMB: +1 - CMD: 15, Speed: 30, Init. +4 Spells/day 1st 1/3

Stevesie walks around the hut to make sure the witch isn't lurking anywhere. I moved to the southeast a few spaces, "Anyone know how to clean up the mess? Or put the pot back to sleep?"-

Grand Lodge

Male Aasimar Shaman 2

Kalani continues to leave the hut.

There's still a cat sitting there...

Grand Lodge

M Dwarf HP 20/20,- AC 17/T:14/FF: 13 - Perception +8 - F: +6/ R: +7/ W: +3 - CMB: +4 - CMD: 18, Speed: 20, Init. +5

Ulfgar commands Bort to heel

handle animal: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

Grand Lodge

Bort returns to his master as Ulfgar moves away from the door and readies an attack if the pot moves outside the hut.

attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 (subtract 4 if the pot is in close combat with someone as it leaves the hut)
damage: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 4) + 1 = 8

I believe the cauldron gets an attack of opportunity on Bort for that move:

bite: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

After the group leaves the house, the cauldron returns to the center of the room.

Grand Lodge

M Human HP 8/19, - AC 17/T: 14/FF: 13 - Perception +5 - F: +2/ R: +7/ W: +3 - CMB: +1 - CMD: 15, Speed: 30, Init. +4 Spells/day 1st 1/3

"Alrightie, we need a new plan of attack," says Stevesie. "We have no idea where the witch is, or when she is coming back. We could camp out here, or try again, this time restraining the cauldren. Or someone with bigger brains figures out something else smart for us to do. I guess other options include finding the dwarves int he mountains and also giving up on the quest all together. I, for one, will not abandon my people of Falcon's Hallow and will see out the rest of this quest, even if I get eaten by a stupid pot."

Grand Lodge

Male Aasimar Shaman 2

"Perhaps we can have Ulfgar snipe the cauldron from outside the hut?"

I think that would be the best course of action

Grand Lodge

M Human HP 8/19, - AC 17/T: 14/FF: 13 - Perception +5 - F: +2/ R: +7/ W: +3 - CMB: +1 - CMD: 15, Speed: 30, Init. +4 Spells/day 1st 1/3

"Wow forget the other character who has a ranged weapon in the party, that's cool," says Stevesie.

Grand Lodge

M Dwarf HP 20/20,- AC 17/T:14/FF: 13 - Perception +8 - F: +6/ R: +7/ W: +3 - CMB: +4 - CMD: 18, Speed: 20, Init. +5

"I could certainly do that, but the witch would be angry if we destroyed it. Considering the fact that we had to run away from an inanimate object she enchanted, do we really want to piss her off?"

Grand Lodge

Male Aasimar Shaman 2

"Well, I'm sure we could do it real quick, and be in and out before the witch notices!"

*Waiting for the party to decide to act...

Grand Lodge

M Human HP 8/19, - AC 17/T: 14/FF: 13 - Perception +5 - F: +2/ R: +7/ W: +3 - CMB: +1 - CMD: 15, Speed: 30, Init. +4 Spells/day 1st 1/3

Stevesie says, "I'll take a stab at it."

Shortbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

"pew pew."

Feel free to discuss among the group. I'm going to be slow to respond this weekend; I'll try to pick up early next week.
