Before he tries at the deformed goblin again, Logar sneaks an entertained grin. He used to play stupid tricks on the other kids at Cailean's temple, but seeing a serious grown man fool a monster like so, was borderline absurd. And yet Logar has to fight on. With one more swing of his flail, the half orc grabs Korvus' hand and brings him down, beating at his stomach and arms until his poor life ceases to exist.

Logar, grinning at the remembrance of childhood memories, slams the goblin with his flail, killing it.

Carefully removing the wooden coverings over the zombie pits, between Tylur chain, arrows and bolts, you put the undead out of their state and kill them all.

Searching the room the only things of value are the goblins weapons, +1 longsword, silver dagger, masterwork handaxe.

After clearing and searching the room, you head along the south corridor. Off to the east(Logar token), is a set of stairs heading down. You can see that after a few feet it is completely blocked off from an ancient cave in and is entirely impassable.

Further south is a door which opens into a room. This strange room is a fifteen foot diameter sphere. Several objects float in the room, spinning lazily in space—a ragged book, a scroll, a bottle of wine, a dead raven surrounded by a halo of floating and writhing maggots, and a twisted iron wand with a forked tip. Yet perhaps the most unnerving aspect of the room is the walls, for they are plated in sheets of strange red metal that ripple every once in a while with silent black electricity that seems to coalesce into strange runes or even words far too often for the effect to be chance.

Cordwin's mouth is ajar watching the spinning objects. He had seen a dwarven mage do a similar trick once but it was nowhere near as creepy as this.

Cordwin looks around the room trying to figure the source of the spinning objects.

René gives the floating room a suspicious thought. "Now, this here's a purty crazy idea, but how about we leave the creepy, drippin' with evil room alone? I ain't seein' no way outta there that this Tsuto fella could be hidin' in. So how abouts we jus' continue on our way?"

Logar thinks hard about this unique room. It was unfitting for the rest of this damp, old dungeon, and the bottle of wine and paper would mean that either the sphere was affected by some sort of preservation magic, or it had been attended recently.

"Hold up. See the book and the scroll? If this place was as ancient as the rest of this cave, they would have rotten away. I think someone's visited this room recently, someone who could have been Tsuto. And these maggots over there, they sure are alive and writhing, meaning living creatures can safely enter the room."

Trying to make sense of everything he'd just said, Logar furrows his eyebrows.

"While more than discomforting, I think this room might hold information we can use to Tsuto, or learn more about whatever is happening in these not-so-abandoned caverns."

3 for going elsewhere, 1 for going into the room, 1 not voted. Let me know what you, as a group will do. I'll try to move this on tomorrow.

Grabbing onto the end of Rene rope, Cordwin pushes off from the edge, trying to guide himself towards the various items that are floating around the room. He manages to snatch and item, then he continues to float to a surface on his line of flight, then readjusting his aim, he pushes off and manages to snatch another item. Repeating this procedure he captures all the items, then he heads back to the hallway.

While he is able to determine what the scroll and wand are, he realizes that he is not able to use either of them.

Cordwin:
Scroll of Burning Hands, Wand of Shocking Grasp (CL 5, 28 charges)
The bottle is labeled as a decent wine from Magnimar, while the book is written in a language that he does not understand.

See? Nothin' to it! Cordwin says on returning from his little adventure. He looks over the scrolls. Oh! Mage spells. Too bad we don't have one of 'em. Hmmm....This is the spell for burning hands. I've seen ye do something similiar, Aurora, can ye use this spell?

Cordwin's face contorts as he tries to read the book. By Torag's Fiery Forge! I've found me a book I can't read! Mind I hold onto it until I can figure it out? He asks the group collectively.

He hands the bottle of wine to Logar. It ain't ale, but I believe a decent vintage. Perhaps its a sign from Cayden Cailean?

"There any pictures in that there book?" René tries to get a glimpse at the book Cordwin is holding. Basically trying to see if he can read it at all. "Gotta say, I don't see no point to such a creepy place. Mebbe we should git gone'n keep looking fer that punchy fella."

That I do!

Cordwin skims through the book. Ain't no pictures I can see. Frustrated he can't read the book through mental means, he takes a pinch of salt and soot and begins an incantation over the book. That should help! He then opens the book to the first page to read as much as he can in order to get the gist of the book.

Narrator [Maps, handouts, pictures: Links in top of page spoiler]

Cordwin:
The book is a magically preserved but still ancient prayer book dedicated to the worship of Lamashtu, the Mother of Monsters. Written in Abyssal, this well-read tome is Erylium’s pride and joy, the most important of her belongings. The book reads as much like a bestiary of the world’s most horrific and cruel monsters (along with numerous woodcut illustrations of how they kill) as it does a religious text. The book is worth 100 gp

Well I'll be a bearded gnome! There are pictures! It is mostly a prayer book written to Lamashtu, but it has a lot of information on beasties! Might come in handy if we find some - especially the ancient kind! Cordwin says as he continues to skim the book.

When Tylur mentions burning the book, Cordwin grasps it tight like a child whose toy has been threatened. Oh No! This book will take some time to study and I still would like to learn the language it is written in without the use of magical means. The best way to defeat evil is to understand evil.

René resisted the urge to join in on the debate. It was true that knowledge of one's enemies was a formidable weapon. Yet at the same time, knowledge could corrupt, especially when magic and the will of a dark god was involved. He suspected the safest course of action would be to find those more well versed in such things, but they didn't exactly have time to be "safe". And, well, if it kept him alive he was willing to risk a little corruption.

"Hope ya gone'n memorized all the relevant parts and ain't gonna try ta stop to read about the beasties while they're tryin' ta rip our innards out. Now'sit time ta move on?" Looks like we could try going through the southern door in the room before the zombie pit room.

Nodding and taking the scroll, "Thank you. Though I would leave the wine alone until we can have someone check it. I do not trust anything here."

What is the caster level on that scroll?

Peering over Cordwin's shoulder with René. "Tylur is right that book is dangerous. We can do many things to learn. Currently our foe is Tsuto."
