Here is where Group B can begin discussion. Just as a reminder Group B should be:
Tinuviel (Boo) - Arcane
Cadas - Divine
Robin - Skill/Support
Smoke - Crusher of all bad guys
Rogar - Shield totin' ranger.
Please be aware, that just because I call you group B does not mean that I think any less of you or relegate you to second class status (yeah, sure it doesn't).
We can take turns calling each group "Group A" if that seems more FAIR to you. Because we want everything to be FAIR, right up to the point a Black Dragon breathes acid all over you and melts your faces off.
(okay rant over)
Welcome to the thread. I will be trying to get Gameplay started tonight or latest tomorrow with some opening hooks and setting the mood. Feel free to talk amongst yourselves, and thank your lucky stars the Aussies are in the other thread AND only one (really nice, polite, refined, handsome, and charming)dwarf made this group. Who says I'm evil now, hmmmm?
LMK if questions, 'k?

Smoke from Two-Rivers |

Now we can decide backstories. yay!
So, Cadas: step-siblings then, or do you have strong favor one way or the other about a different link?

Cadas |

Divine here. Hi. Glad to be on the team. Cadas is a reasonable fighter at low level and will not mind being a front ranker for most fights for a while. As she levels her melee ability will not keep pace with Rogar and Smoke. But for a couple of levels she should be able to take out some goblins. :)
Smoke, my story is currently more tied to a mission from the tribe. Seemed like you are more here to have fun. So maybe you are my little half brother who I gotta watch out for, on top of all my other responsibilities. "When will you grow up?" And maybe the threat to the town, my person, and ultimately our tribe will be enough to make you into a serious barbarian.
Maybe I did not even know you would be in Sandpoint. Have you officially left the tribe? That could be a source of strife.

Robin the Jester |
Hey team Benchwarmers. Er, I mean team Benchsmashers! With two tribesmen, a surly dwarf, and Boo the Miniature Giant Space Hamster, I'm looking forward to some serious smashing!

Aziza Plumbockett |

Forgive the interruption, folks; just wanted to say "Have fun storming the castle!", and I hope I get to RP with you at some future point. Now I have to go back to the other team. :)

Cadas |

I did a quick glance at builds - we have a good group but are weak when it comes to traps. No one has trap finding or disable devise that I saw. Robin is a skill monkey but a lot of his skills are knowledge skills. Could be good, but could be duplication with Tinuviel. Oh, Tin, why do you say your move is 20. Should it be 30? One other thing I noted was that Smoke has Survival, which is good. But Rogar has not picked it up yet. Will we need a lot of tracking at first level? I have no idea....

Robin the Jester |
But... what if we smash the trap?
@Dr. Evil: Can Robin can take the Nimble Fingers, Keen Mind trait? That will make him a reasonable trap disabler, though he would still not have Trapfinding to disable magical traps. We would have to use some creative solutions for those.

What knowledges do we have covered? In a game (on break) right now, so I can't do a lot of checking. I know that Smoke has dungeoneering and nature down. All of my skills will go up except for Swim for the rest of the game, and I'm putting those ranks in Acrobatics.
Most magical traps we'll be casting dispel magic on or I'll be triggering them while everyone else waits at a distance.

DM DoctorEvil |

Ugh, had post that got eaten.
Ok, quick update. I only got 2 of 5 hooks done for your group. Boo and Robin check them out and report back. Will do the rest tomorrow.
Cadas and Smoke, related or not? I can work with the whole half-sib thing if you want it, but need to know early tomorrow to write hook for you.
Just FYI, the Group A gameplay thread was opened a little bit ago (those remedial slugs need all the time they can get), so if you want to go over and peek now is the time. AFter that the game will likely diverge so much it won't be worthwhile.
Yours will be up tomorrow sometime. I am still working on build verification etc, but can do that during initial RP sessions as the town gets explored etc.
Sleep well, children, and dream big
PS: Watched the movie "Life of Pi" yesterday. Highly recommend it, even if you've read the book. Cinematography is amazing alone, and the arrangement of the plot is amazing. Four thumbs way up!

Robin the Jester |
@Robin: you may take it but still only 2 traits +ROTRL one. Seems like a good choice, I was wondering how you'd get around the lack of rogue in the group (let the halfling do it is an acceptable answer)
Sweet - now Robin has Nimble Fingers to go with his Keen Mind, the better to impress the ladies. :D In exchange, he will give up the benefits of being a Freed Slave - he'd rather forget that part of his life anyway. I'll mention again that Robin is technically taking two campaign traits (Eager Performer from the player's guide and Exile from the APG), but I hope you'll allow it.
As for knowledge skills, Robin is particularly strong with history, local, and nobility (because the Court Bard archetype basically limits Bardic Knowledge to those 3 knowledge skills, giving a +1/2 level bonus). He still has a strong desire to dabble in all knowledge, though. It's part of his character.

Hey! I resent that remark. The meds are working quite nicely and the docs say I'm allowed out without a straight-jacket now. And I happen to like our shell-less terrestrial dwelling molluscan friends, except when I find them in my salad.
Oops, I'm not supposed to be here, am I? But I couldn't let Doc's remark pass without a riposte. Sorry. :p

Cadas |

Your call Smoke if you are my little bro. I think it would add a little if we at least knew each other - maybe met during festival days when tribes come together in the spring or something. Regardless, Cadas is not gonna be initially happy with you if she is here on the tribe's business and you are here goofing off. :)

Lets go with just knowing each other. Smoke is as Shoanti as Crush is orange juice, though. I don't think he's ever been officially part of a clan, per se. Just related to one through his mom.
But feel free to still be mad though!

Robin the Jester |
I have knowledge arcana and nature. I could switch out planes for nature?
Planes seems good to me. Depending on whether you have the spare skillpoints, you could dabble in other knowledge skills. It'll be pretty useful with your sky high intellect.
FYI, the latest and greatest plan with Robin is to max out by Level 2 Diplomacy, Perform (comedy) (effectively bluff and intimidate), Disable Device, Perception, and Stealth. The remaining skill points per level will be scattered about, before focusing on filling party gaps as best as possible.

DM DoctorEvil |

@Robin: your treats are fine.
To all, hooks now out to all, and have heard back on all except the last one (Smoke). Some little changes coming to those. I expect to get the campaign started in earnest by opening the gameplay thread today/tonight.
Thanks for patience. Your long-lost friends in Group A are already giving me fits, as you would expect.
Buckle up, kiddos.

Cadas |

Cadas has Knowledge Nature, but does not have KnowledgeReligion yet. I had to choose one and figured that made more sense for her background. I could switch it if no one has religion... She will pick up Religion next level. By then she should be all citified.

DM DoctorEvil |

Hey gang. Took a long, late lunch in order to get the gameplay post open and inital posts made.
As such, the world is now up to you to bend to your will. Head over to the Gameplay thread, read over everyone's spoilers posts, and then take a step through the gate and into your adventure.
Let's get rich or die trying!

Smoke from Two-Rivers |

Waiting to decide concretely on Smoke's opinion of Cadas in total until we've interacted a little. He's respectful and never oversteps his boundaries, but he has a habit of treating people like they're his friends, whether or not that's appropriate.

DM DoctorEvil |

One of the good things about playing a tried and true AP like ROTRL is the amount of resources available on the internet and elsewhere. I will attempt to link items of interest in the campaign info tab from time to time. Image of Daviren Hosk linked there now.
Let me know if you have other things you wanna see.
Also, I'm perfectly happy doing "welcome to Sandpoint" RP for days on end, so let me know if it's too much.

Smoke from Two-Rivers |

If you don't have any plans for the workin' girls, I have a really good idea of how that interaction turns out, if that's alright.

DM DoctorEvil |

Robin the Jester |
One last-minute change. I'd like to have Robin take the feat Childlike. It fits his story rather well.

Cadas |

I am headed to a con this weekend where I am in charge of the PFS gaming. Leaving noon central time tomorrow and will be mostly off line for most of the weekend, but will try to check things during any down time.

DM DoctorEvil |

thanks for the notice, Cadas. Have fun!
I, myself, will have limited availability today. in meetings until late tonight. I will try to read and possibly update on breaks, but phone posts are hard. Will get something up tonight after I return home even if it's limited.
Enjoying the game so far, you guys are great! Thanks for playing!

Smoke from Two-Rivers |

On an interesting note, as far as Pathfinder lore goes (DoctorEvil's interpretations may be differ) the Shoanti we're meeting here are actually a very rare element. A very small amount of them live with the tshamek and the rest are xenophobic isolationist tribesmen that live on the Storval Plateau away from all other peoples. Rogar thinks they've spent too much time amongst the softer nations but they actually actively despise and distance themselves from the Varisian encampments and Chelish settlements. There are no Shoanti towns south of the Plateau's edge, for example, just Shoanti living in other peoples' towns.
(Tshamek is a nickname that's short for "I blame you, specifically you, for all of the troubles put on my people by your people" or something like that. Smoke isn't a tshamek because he's not half-Chelish, but if he keeps acting like he isn't Shoanti he might become one. Rogar isn't because he's not Chelish, but could be considered one because of Janderhoff. Tinuviel could be considered tshamek because she lives in Magnimar. Robin is definitely tshamek because he lived in Cheliax.)

Good info, thanks Smoke. My home campaigns aren't necessarily set in Golarian (or at least PFS-standard Golarion) so my knowledge of some of these culturally things is limited. I try to do a little research and not completely step in it, but sometimes the complexity is too much.
Shoanti in and around Sandpoint, for our purposes, will be those of Shoanti descent who have integrated somewhat into Varisian society. Still has some mannerism and sterotypes of the wild type.

DM DoctorEvil |

Just a fair (if a little late) warning about my style: I'm not going to hit you over the head with information, backstory, clues or leads. I will run a cadre of NPC's in front of you, some will volunteer info, some you'll have to parse info out of. Normal things like Gather Information checks I'd prefer to see as actual interaction not just dice rolls.
Any named NPC is there for a particular purpose. I try to put a lot of thought and forethought into those and make them a little more than one dimensional. Dialect, mannerism, and relationships will all have bearing usually. (sorry if accents etc are too much, in my table top games, this is a fun part of GMing -- the master actor)
Some NPC interactionss may be introductory and not have direct information until later in the story, some may give you red herrings, some will have good timely relevant info. There are others like Lars and Bethany, who are there mainly to serve a function, but they may have important info also if asked.
This campaign has a significant investigative tilt to it, and since my style may be different from other PbP games, I just thought I'd give a heads up. It's not intended as a particular criticism or regarding a botched encouter or critical missed info so far.
I'll try to keep a running list of named NPC's in Campaign info tab in case you want to revisit them.
Let me know your feedback on this style issue, if any, or any other part of the game. My goal is for you to have fun...if you need to kill things, it's coming, I promise. Really!

This is the real deep lore stuff. I would hardly know this if I hadn't read a couple Pathfinder tales novels and the Inner Sea guide cover to cover. Normal humans don't know this-- only lore nerd humans.
I actually like that we're seeing a bunch of different races in the game so far. Running into an Ulfen bartender and a pair of halfling servers while the entertainment is a Tian instrumentalist is pretty cool.
Don't worry. I can't help myself but chime in with lore stuff on a near constant basis.
Also, your GMing style has been good so far. I'm engaged, but waiting for the tilt, as it were. Someone who clicks with Smoke to interact with, negatively or positively. I'm pretty reactionary in my character actions, so... expect to prod me forwards if need be. (Thanks for the favorite on the Pixie Kittens post-- it was fun to write.)
And I'm going to be rolling dice for most of my social actions, then narrating off my results-- I just don't want to drag the story back to Lars for a longer scene. Keep things moving forward.
Rolling dice at people in a PBP to simulate social actions just doesn't seem fun, especially if I can take a bit of narrative control in how I go about it. The Pixie Kitten girls post is a good example of how I'd flavor gathering information-- probably a failed roll, by how it turned out...
