All,
I've grown shorter and shorter on time in recent months, and I kept hoping that my schedule would clear up, but it hasn't. It's gotten to the point where I just have to force myself to sit down and write, and that's completely the opposite of what PbP gaming should be. Wrestling with this dilemma, I've come to the conclusion that I need to cut back, and so I must withdraw from this game.
I appreciate the opportunity to have played with you all. It's been a lot of fun! I hope to have more opportunities to play with you again the future.
Zhelaeuss "Lefty" Ah
Oof
Well, take care of yourself ^^;
Tylur Trask
Hate to see you go, Zam. Loved the roleplay you brought to the game.
DM Nex
Aww.. I am so sorry to see you go, but I also understand schedules that make it difficult.
I hope the best for you. Thank you for being one of my best players :)
Some real questions..
Zam was tracking loot. I bet we can still use her sheet, if she is ok with it.
Also we have 4 players now, no "captain" type role, do we want to open it up again for a replacement? Its kinda now or never in terms of story openings for awhile.
Zamasea De
Absolutely! I'll leave the loot sheet where it is. Also, being on Castrovel, Zam's home planet, creates an easy opportunity for a family emergency or something similar to draw her away from the adventure.

...Also, being on Castrovel, Zam's home planet, creates an easy opportunity for a family emergency or something similar to draw her away from the adventure.
Only if we can get her equally capable cousin to join us as the new captain of the Sunrise Maiden. That way, if your schedule frees up and you come back, Zam can easily rejoin her family. :)
DeeV8
Take care Zam I was a pleasure writing with ya
Zhelaeuss "Lefty" Ah
It would be nice to have a captain :s
Tylur Trask
So do we want to move forward with 4? or Shall we try to get a 5th?
The team still needs a diplomatic "face"...and captain. So, I'd say recruit someone else. Story-wise, I think it would be cool if they could simply pick up Zam's character and continuing playing her rather than inventing an entirely new role. That way, we keep the Drift Rock crew together.
Zhelaeuss "Lefty" Ah
Hmmm, I'll poke a friend of mine...
Zhelaeuss "Lefty" Ah
More and more I keep thinking of Lefty as a hypercompetent stoner minus the chemical drugs. Maybe the internet is his drug of choice xD
DeeV8
Certainly, Dee can't fill that massive void left by Zam's departure lol. I will reply later today. Don't login for a day and the threads exploded!
Zhelaeuss "Lefty" Ah
Yeah, that's what you get, detcord :p
Hmmm, I'll poke a friend of mine...
Welp, seems like he's not too interested after all :s
DM Nex
OH well.. I am going to open it up in recruitment. If anyone has other suggestions for players they should apply.
EDIT: Link to Recruitment

What are people's thoughts for the replacement Zam.
We have 2 good options.
A player Me'Mori who is willing to pick up the Zam character. Wrote a sample in "Zam"s voice:
Inhale.
Even the air that blew by on the warm breeze made her smile, an almost jubilant expression that turned to a wide grin that was as bright as her shock of aquamarine hair, feeling the tug of the wind blow against her from her exposed position on the pinnacle of the promontory. The sensation sent electric thrills down her limbs, nervous jitters of adrenaline starting as she stared out at the beauty of a sea of green. Native Castrovel.
There was nothing like the feeling of coming home, or maybe it was the feeling of being surrounded by nature. The air was heavy with moisture, the low roar of Jamaar's Cascade dwarfing them by the sheer scope of the falls. For her it was equal parts thrilling and humbling. The horizon was dark, the rumble of the coming storm not close enough to be heard over the sound of the falls that was almost more felt than heard.
"C'mon, isn't this feeling just amazing?"
The laughter in her voice was an expression of the sheer wonder of their surroundings, looking back at the others that she had convinced to join her on this recreational hike, feeling an odd echo from her words.
Figures, all of them. Vague forms that held the shape and posture of her companions, each of them a relative distance away that was both close enough to easily touch, but at the same time so very incomprehensibly far. Faceless, more concept than corporeal, she reached out— for? through? one of them as she fell into blue. Falling? There was a moment of panicworryfear that vanished like a popped bubble. She was racing the water down, her backwards fall turning into a headfirst dive, hitting the water with token resistance, the sounds of the jungle's waterfall disappearing like a shed garment, leaving only the steady rumble of the flume.
Exhale.
Pressed in blue, wrapped in weight and resistance and silence, she floated. Swimming meant air, so where was the surface? Where were the bubbles? She would need to breathe soon, which way was up? There were shapes in the water; there had to be a direction; was she going to get ea—
She found air with the opening of her eyes and a belated realization, the dreams of Castrovel fading as all dreams do, muddled concepts drifting into muddled feelings, until the strongest remained, only to be gone in seconds. The ceiling of her cabin was bathed in the muted blue light and underwater sounds of the AtmoScene™ Suite, the idle vibrations of the ship in transit through The Drift riding that line between sound and feeling as it always did. Zamasea mustered just enough focus to flick the "off" switch of the 'Suite with a thought. Content, she closed her eyes to try to chase down the dream, shifting her position before losing the thread almost immediately to sleep.
Inhale.
And another player who made another Envoy : Link to profile
The second player also offered to make an Operative, if we wanted to go with 6 players. I am tempted to keep it at 5, so we don't get too unruly. Anyone have any thoughts. I am leaning toward the person who can pick up Zam. Makes it easier to just keep going, vs having to pick up a new person in story.
Zhelaeuss "Lefty" Ah
I'm also new to this campaign and so I can't really say anything Me'Mori's rendition of Zam, but I am in another game with Hayato Ken/Kana Cherryblossom/Ahri Choi. Would recommend, especially for a face character ^_^
Ahri Choi
Hello there!
Thanks for having me here, I got Wer can have a nice and fun game together.
Also thanks for the recommendation, I'm a bit surprised about that and hopefully can love up to expectations.
I have a little question for the GM and the fellow players here regarding great selection :
What do you think is better or more needed at the moment?
More skills and telepathy?
Acting and buffing first?
Or a bit more damage?
I'm planning to write down the backstory this evening when I have a bit more time on my hands.
Zhelaeuss "Lefty" Ah
Welcome ^_^
Just be careful about typos and you'll be fine ;p
As for immediate focus, I know that we have computers covered for sure. DV8 and Lefty can probably just alternate using Aid Another on each other xD
Maybe talky skills?
...
Anyone think we'll need more firepower?
Ahri Choi
Thanks^^
I always watch out for typos and give my best english.
Not being a native and having learned british english, that might be a bit different than the average U.S. english sometimes.
Also i don't get every pop culture reference :D
Talky skills and sense motive should be fine already, could buff them some more with a psychic feat which i planned to take.
Zhelaeuss "Lefty" Ah
Oh yeah, I keep forgetting that English is a second language for you xD
Well, I guess that psychic feat sounds good. Anyone have opinions on the current status of our firepower?
DeeV8
Welcome! Looking forward to writing with ya!

I think i'll go with imrpoved initiative and psychic insight, giving me a +2 bonus on various skills and letting me face better.
Had to realize that my first round will probably always be "get'em" and "clever feint" - which by the way is written faint in various resources, makes remotely sense, but i think that's a typo :D.
I'll then need to draw a weapon, which is a move action at least without quick draw, so the ~+4 damage aren't that big i guess.
@Lefty: I'll take that as a compliment!
@Deev8: Thanks! Looking forward to that as well.
Zhelaeuss "Lefty" Ah
What a novel idea:
A faint could be a clever feint; though maybe it wouldn't work out well if you went all the way prone xD
I'd like to add (if it makes you feel better about being too busy to shoot more): I'll be primarily using a single shot weapon and won't manage two shots most rounds no matter what xD
Zhelaeuss "Lefty" Ah
@GM: question I just realized I should've asked about muuch sooner:
can Lefty target people with his telepathy instead of broadcasting to everyone?
And does he need to use Detect Thoughts or rely on the other person's telepathy for them to reply by thinking? :3
DM Nex
I rule it in the favor of the players. You can communicate with people you want, and listen to replies.
But if you are talking to 3 people, you can hear their responses, but they can't hear eachother, unless they also have telepathy.
So its kinda like a comms unit in your suit. Feel free to abuse it, just mark when you are using telepathy.
@Ahri - Oh, and I will bring you in soon. I will let you know. Just hold tight and we will fit you in.
Sybil Surefoot
Welcome Ahri Choi! Just looking over your character to get a sense of her and have a question. As you chose Icon, which profession did you choose?
Ahri Choi
Good question!
My intent was to choose Captain, but since it's not on the skill list i likely forgot that and also didn't put a point.
Profession skills work just like in Pathfinder right?
Ahri Choi
Just to point it out, Ahri as envoy isn't really a damage heavy character.
Making enemies flat footed and giving you the get'em morale bonus will most times be her first round and probably follow ups as well often.
Else it's limited to the small arm and grenades, which isn't much.
If you would like a character who could support you with more damage, but has similar skills (with face and captain qualities) i could switch to operative.
With the same feats, the skills would be pretty similar only the tricks would be different.
DM Nex
As an Icon you pick a proffession. Usually something that would make you famous. Something like Singer, or Movie Star, Or something dramatic like that. You can still be a Captain in combat, but your history should have you be something that makes you "famous" to some extent. Hell it could be a Pro Card Gamer..
As for what class you should be.. You already started as Envoy. I would not worry about bringing in more damage. Just RP what you want. I would prefer you stick with Envoy, but if you want to switch you should do it ASAP.
Ahri Choi
Envoy is good for me, just was a bit insecure because there was so much talk about damage^^
Or maybe i just read it like that.
I'll come up with something for a profession then asap.
What was Zams profession?
DM Nex
She wasn't an Icon. She was a Xenoseeker.
her backstory was that she went to the School here for Xenoanthropology and Xenoarchiology. The Starfinder thing just happened during the adventure, no school for that.
Since you picked the Icon Background, you just need to have a reason to be an Icon.
Zam just wanted to find out about learn about aliens. :)
As for your connection to her, it does not have to be here at the school. I threw that out there, but she at least knows you from being local. She left to join the Starfinders which kicked off the adventure.

Hi everyone,
going away on a mini-vacation will be back Wednesday. I'll have my laptop but I may be slow to replies. Just giving a heads up.
Zhelaeuss "Lefty" Ah
See you later, then ^^
DM Nex
Vacations for all!
So heads up to everyone. I am going on a vacation this week for a few weeks. I will have my computer, and likely a lot of time to post. But things might get a bit slow here and there.
Again, sorry for all the delays lately. Life is just full of stuff. But I am not going anywhere. Expect a post or two from me soon.
Ahri Choi
Vacation for a few weeks?
That sounds like a teacher or student, but it seems you're in IT :P
Wish you a good time!
DM Nex
Yes I am IT. I get 160 hours of vacation a year. Which is not as much as it could be..
I am a Developer, so I can take big breaks between projects. Long road trip with family.
Will be back in town late August. But I will have a sleeping 2 year old for a lot of the trip, so lot of time on my laptop to post :)
Ahri Choi
Pretty cool!
That's approximately the same amount of vacation i get in my new job as IT consultant now.
Coincidentaly, i also have a nearly 3 year old kid.
Ahri Choi
So, about the icon thing and profession...
You might be a famous performer or a celebrated scientist, but either way, you get recognized on the Pact Worlds and in associated systems. Your reason for traveling to unknown worlds might be to further spread your acclaim or to escape the limelight.
I originaly imagined to be a captain of some renown, taking profession captain. Think James Holden. Not sure if that makes sense.
I could easily be a different kind of "celebrity", in the more traditional dramatic sense you mentioned.
Like being from a show where she played a captain hehehe.
Would fit the character just as well.
Or take the xenoseeker background.
The character is defined through other things for me.
Zhelaeuss "Lefty" Ah
Profession (Ship Officer) for icon would probably fit the bill, though that'd be a bit soldier-y maybe. I'm pretty sure you can have a profession that's more general than just 'captain', and you'd have to climb through the ranks anyway :3
Xenoseeker seems more about the traveling and exploration than about captaining, but maybe that's what you'd prefer? :3
DM Nex

I can see the James Holden reference. My only "issue" with that is that having that celeb status sorta means you would have class levels. Something you would get via adventuring.
But if you want to be known for a very daring flight, that is fine. In that case, what happened to your crew? How do you separate yourself from an Ace Pilot?
Going as a show captain would be really entertaining. A tv/movie star. You play the Captain in a show.
Whichever you prefer.
