Dotting on interest. May make a dwarven barbarian.

EDIT: Is there any way I can have my dwarf have the Sky Sentinel and Lorekeeper alternate racial traits? It's okay if I can't have them, just asking.

EDIT #2: Here's the statistics for my dwarf barbarian, Goyarg

Those alternative traits are fine with me.

While working on your background, be sure to include some idea of why the swordlords of Brevoy decided that a dwarf barbarian with "dunderhead impediment" would be a good choice to found a new kingdom! :D

Interesting, so do you see the character's bloodrager aspect as being a mechanical function (he's a man from civilization who happens to fight like a raging beast) or part of his backstory (he's a barbarian who is trying to carve out a kingdom of his own a la Conan, and he has magical heritage stemming from old days of now-fallen kingdoms that have passed through his family lineage to give him special powers)?

Slightly disappointed based on the chart above, but it had seemed when I started rewriting Carrack, that all our melee offerings had unusual races, and normal classes, so I am submitting a basic Human, with a slightly offbeat martial class, and 8+ skill points a level, to offer a skilled martial!)

Dotting with interest & several Spoilers for Wall o' Texts. Did some fair attempts at formatting it to readable.

I have played several(ok, Most) of the games you referenced being involved with to one extent or another, and have several very fond memories with them. I was able to give your documentation a brief look over while at work, along with several of the early recruitment posts. I also appreciate the work you've put into prepping for this game within the first 18 hours or so of the recruitment, and it gives me hope, that perhaps THIS KM game, won't die.

I wonder if there is a word for the form of government that is "rule by psychic mecha." "Evangelion-ocracy"?

Early KM involves a lot of reclaiming and rebuilding stuff so the craft and repair abilities of the aegis would certainly be useful there. Most common folk would probably assume that you are just using some kind of weird conjuring magic.

I'm not taking kitsune for this AP on this run, sorry. Perhaps next time I'll run a KM variant in Minkai. ;)

We are ready to explore the Stolen Lands.

Alvissa Farateldi and Sky Pilot, trusted steed. Alvissa hails from Medyev by way of Varisia, and champions the Order of the Blue Rose.

"When the strike is a feint, every feint is a pause. Every action is a veil- When war is the easy way, the Blue Rose blooms, because Peace is as real as blood."

Character sheet isn't 100%, this will be my 2nd PbP if selected, formatting still a small challenge for the sheet portion. Posting format is good, though :)

Submitting Darg Blanc, daring champion cavalier and aspiring Aldori Swordlord. His background and stat block are in his profile.

Two Blue Rose daring champion applications! And I played in a KM game with one! Something about this AP brings them out of the woodwork. :D

EDIT: THREE!

DM, please have a look at the background for the character I proposed above. There is much of relationship detail to add, but I believe the general motives for a character submission should suffice here.

Well, actully my quote about the Weapons of Legacy was just for a reference of my idea, devoted to a weapon and trying to awaken it... even if it just means for her to pay gold and turn it into a common magic item, gradually re-enchanting it to make it more powerful as levels goes up. (In my mind, it will work anyway)

Never intended to actually use that system since it is really s****!

Anyway, any feedback on her background/reasons to join in the expedition?

Also really appreciate your response style... many GM leaves us completely in the dark... maybe our submition has zero chance since the beginning, but without a word we can not make it better.

I see him as a little of both. He is a calm refined individual who would prefer to approach most of life in a civilized manner including battle, to fight with honor and valor. But instead he has found that in his blood is the magic of ancient kings but that he can only access this force while his most primal feelings are unleashed. Wanted to try to play someone who exists in extremes, not trying to find balance in the middle. Both calm and enraged, wild and civilized and not seeing it as contradictions.

Would anyone like a Harrowing while we wait?

yes please. So how does this work?

Peeking in; still have to finish adjusting Korinne to fit the creation guidelines and go over her backstory to see what might need to be tweaked but I thought I'd offer a general character outline.

Rough Draft Stuff:

The general gist is that Korinne met a young revolutionary from Galt when she was roughly 12-13 and grew close with him, though not really in a sexual/romantic sense (more on that to follow). After he returned to Galt, they maintained some degree of contact for a time until his letters ceased.

Her relationship with this fellow did a lot to shape her and what she wants to be/do, but rather than become a revolutionary herself I thought it would be interesting to take it in a slightly different direction. She wants to help forge and guide this new kingdom to be the opposite of what's happened in/to Galt, partly out of her own sense of patriotism towards Brevoy and partly in memory of her friend and his cause.

I've not decided if her friend is truly dead or not, but Korinne currently believes that he is. Given that she grew close to him when she was on the cusp of and undergoing puberty, she's also not really certain if she sees/saw him as just an older brother/mentor figure or perhaps in a more romantic light. This could make for some interesting RP given that I know the nature and time progression in the game encourages the PCs to start families and/or if said friend is alive and happens to show up at some point or not.

Regarding her choice of class and archetype, she's fairly intelligent but despite having a lot of good intentions, she's a bit lacking in the common sense department (wisdom). Were her personality a little different, she might have become a cleric of Milani but instead, she put her intellect to work on attempting to develop alternative methods of healing - which could be useful on a battlefield.

Obviously I'll streamline and flesh this out more, but that's currently the gist of what I'm thinking right now. Thoughts, criticisms, etc. are welcome!

Some background
My character is still a work in progress, but I'd like to write up the rough sketch, to get the concept as sharp as possible. I've never done Kingmaker, but I've had the pleasure to be in an AD&D Birthright campaign years ago. We had one character taking the lead in the early campaign, while another eventualy became ruler of our domain for the long haul. That seemed to work quite well, and I was reminded of that when you mentioned a "slow burn" in respons to one of the others. That got me thinking about a character providing the opposite: Someone who has no real desire to lead a kingdom, but who would be a likely candidate for the swordlords to make sure the expedition succeeds far enough to get to that stage. Enter: The consummate Professional.

The concept
Bogdan Chandler is a bastard from House Lebada. Knowing that his ancestry makes life difficult for him among the nobles of Brevoy (and feeling some resentment for it), he has tried to stay away from nobility as much as he could. Growing up stubborn and self-reliant, he has made a name for himself as a sort of mercenary, hiring himself out to get difficult jobs done: getting a trade caravan through dangerous territory, escorting a merchant's son safely to the Aldori for his training, recovering stoles possessions: Every job is fair game as long as it isn't against the law and doesn't involve the scheming of nobility. He's a good as his word, and lives by his reputation. His knack for getting the job done might have drawn the attention of the swordlords for their scheme to reclaim a part the Stolen Lands.

Role in the party
I see Bogdan as the practical leadership of the party, at least in getting to the part when we've settled. The swordlords will know that he doesn't have the desire to rule a domain, so there's room for a 'diplomatic' person to serve as the actual leader. This might provide some good character interaction as well. (Bonus points if Borgan gets tricked by the swordlords into actually taking care of one or more people with ties to nobility. :) ) He could also be the rationale for bringing in some non-traditional characters: He's pragmatic and might insist on one or two old friends joining in, if they have essential skills the expedition is otherwise lacking.
Once we're building a kingdom, I see a lot of different options for Bogdan: General, Marshal, Warden, maybe Spymaster or even Spouse. I don't have any ideas that far, we'll just see where the chips fall.

Crunch
This is the part where I'm still undecided. Bogdan might be a Bolt Ace gunslinger, where the Grit lines up nicely with his tenacity. He could also be a rogue for lots of skills (although I wouldn't want to crowd the 'melee' section any more than it already is; maybe throwing knives?). I could see a Slayer working as well, as a sort of compromise. I've even giving some thoughts on a Warpriest of Abadar, which could provide some nice interaction with the Erastil elements in the campaign (although horribly lacking in skill points).
I'll have to stat up some different versions, see which works best.

Here's my submission for an elf enchantress face/arcane character. She's been in two KM games so far, both of which have died out before I've made it very far. That said, I am currently GMing the game with a group IRL (we're still in book 1).

Description:
Ansha is a tall, slender elven maiden who looks to be no older than a human girl of eighteen or nineteen winters, with long legs and an hourglass figure. Her long hair is a strikingly pale blond bordering on platinum, brushed meticulously and often bound into a long, elegant ponytail by a simple blue hair-ribbon; when unbound, her hair cascades over her shoulders like a cloak reaching just past her butt. Her almond eyes are a deep emerald, bright with intelligence and often twinkling with amusement. Her voice is charmingly soft and velvety, with the melodic sound common to all elven voices.

She is achingly beautiful and her features, much like her frame, are delicate, with a small, perfectly formed nose and lips that are quick to curve into a disarming smile full of unspoken promises. Her skin is smooth porcelain, and is barren of tattoos or other markings. She walks with the grace and poise of a noble debutante, and has a confident air about her, as if she is used to getting what she wants.

She most commonly dresses in a green bodice and underbust corset, with a matching side-slit skirt. Black fingerless gloves that end just beneath her elbows cover her arms and she wears similarly-dyed leather boots that end just beneath the knee. Her pointed ears are pierced with a pair of platinum studs through each arch, each holding a small jade carving of a camellia flower; and pendant earrings of gold dangle from each ear, clasping a small emerald in their raindrop-shaped frames. She wears an intricate choker at her throat, silver chains holding in place a gold frame inset with a larger emerald; additional silver chains drape across her bare neck; dangling among the chains is a small gold disc etched with the elven rune for the first two letters of her given name. A larger gold disc inset with three small teal tourmalines hangs from a chain connected to the smaller disc, and another chain falls from that disc into her cleavage. She wears three gold bracelets on her right arm, two of them loose hoops and the other worn tighter against her wrist; and several gold and platinum rings adorn the fingers of her right hand.

Personality and motivations:

Ansha is a flirt who uses physical and magical charms to get what she wants out of life. She is flighty, impulsive, inquisitive and loves being the center of attention. A true hedonist, she is extremely open to new experiences and is willing to try almost anything at least once.

In the wake of her adoptive parents' deaths, she has slowly had her memories return, and she realizes that in addition to the fact that she can never go home again, she has been living a lie for years. Although her primary motivations are pleasure and power (and the pleasure that comes from having power over others--particularly their minds), she is also aware of the numerous enemies she has, and has found it in her best interest to surround herself with people willing and able to aid her should any of those enemies catch up to her.

Background:
Ansha is the only daughter of Lord Elroth and Lady Elizaera Saeralyan of the noble House Saeralyan, native to Iadara in Kyonin. The House was rather inconsequential in matters of politics, though it does manage to maintain a level of wealth suitable to their station, and it was precisely this inconsequentiality that lead the morally-bankrupt enchantress Elizaera to form a pact with Our Lady in Shadow, Nocticula, the patron of succubi: in return for increased powers of seduction and enchantment, Elizaera would bring the entirety of the House under the demonlord's sway. She succeeded, the whole family came to worship Nocticula secretly and the family's fortunes rose. For her part, Elizaera became the mastermind behind the family, and she was granted a measure of a succubus's power: an otherworldly beauty that could cause those around her to stare in fascination without regard for their surroundings.

When Ansha was born, she shared this same otherworldly power as her mother, but it was decided that she would not be told about the family's pact with Nocticula until she was older, for fear that she might accidentally let something slip, as only a child might. So she was raised as a master manipulator in her own right, and she grew up to be a young elven debutante who knew how to get what she wanted from most anyone. Despite this, she never quite shared the moral degeneration of her mother--probably in large part due to the friendships she formed with other more goodly aristocratic elven children, like her friend Inari Gloamingdusk.

The end of her childhood came early for the young Lady Ansha when her parents decided that she was old enough to reveal the family's dark secret and to include her in the pact with Nocticula. But Ansha stumbled upon them in the midst of a profane ritual several days before her parents were ready to reveal the family's secret to her, and she fled home. Pursued by a summoned succubus, the young Lady Saeralyan was captured and subjected to defilements that shattered her mind and left her with a form of trauma-induced amnesia called dissociative fugue.

But before she could be returned to her family, she was rescued by the married elven adventurers Baelyth and Sahtara. The married pair, for their part, took the elf in and cared for her much as if she were their own daughter. Eventually, they settled with their ward in the wilderness of the River Kingdoms, living in a secluded cottage far from the eyes of any pursuers Ansha may have had.

Life on the frontiers of the River Kingdoms was hard, but it was the only life that Ansha knew now--though occasionally the feeling that a fog shrouded part of her memory gnawed at her.

In the end, it was simple bandits that destroyed Ansha's newfound home life. While away from home, a group of bandits stumbled upon the cottage and attempted to intimidate Baelyth into giving them the family's valuables. A fight started, and though her guardians fought well, Ansha arrived home just in time to find Baelyth dead and the sole surviving brigand fighting with Sahtara.

Ansha cried out, and Sahtara looked up at the sound. The brigand capitalized on the distraction then to run Sahtara through, her unarmored body collapsing onto the forest floor. Tears clouding her vision, Ansha then burned the man to death with a fan of flames.

Overwhelmed with grief, the elf paid her respects to the guardians whom she had taken for mother and father. She knew she couldn't survive in the wilderness alone, so she began making preparations to leave for Restov. It was while gathering supplies for the journey that she stumbled across an old chest. Opening it, she found a pool of fine greenish cloth among a pile of clothing. She lifted the pool up, and it flowed down into the shape of an evening gown...and her vision began to swim as forgotten memories surged up from her unconscious mind.

She re-lived the entirety of her life in Kyonin in a moment, right up to the night that a summoned succubus had subjected her to such defilements of mind and body. She remembered who she had been, and what had been done to her. Baelyth and Sahtara were not her parents--she was not their daughter. She was Ansha Saeralyan, and her mother consorted with succubi. Shaken, and her very identity in crisis, Ansha headed for Restov.

Reimmersing herself in the pleasures of civilization, Ansha increasingly felt drawn to understand who she had been. Mindful of the dangers returning to Kyonin would pose, she turned to the ancient past instead, and tales she remembered of long-lost holds in the south. So it was that when she heard of an expedition into those lands, she found herself volunteering.

Yeah support/healer is her main role. Anything after that is based on how she uses her cultivation pots and what's needed to make the party successful.

Sounds like Kingmaker games are jinxed on the boards. I better get my blood pressure checked. ;)

A few more notes!

Here is a link to my sheet for tracking applicants. Lemme know if you are not on there! I have placed this link, as well as a link to the character creation guidelines, on the campaign short description, so you can always find them there during recruitment.

Movement rates: Kingmaker does a lot of exploration on the basis of your speed. If you are slow, it takes longer to explore. So, consider horses or having some way of going faster than speed 20'. :)

A way to think about how your character would get into this AP and what they do: Think about the circumstances of how you were recruited to get a charter. Some agent of the swordlords probably came and took you to a meeting, on the basis of your reputation or skills or family connection. Then a few agents would have asked a bit about you -- they're not just handing out charters to anyone -- questions like:

"Why should the swordlords trust you with this important job?"
"How do you plan to set up a new nation and establish the trust and loyalty of the people?"
"What sorts of religious and legal strictures do you think should be part of a new nation?"
"Do you have particular plans and goals? Why should the swordlords support those goals?"
"Do you have a criminal background? Is there anything we should know now that might cause problems later in your political future if it were to get out to the public?"

If you can't figure out how your character would answer these questions satisfactorily, you might want to rethink some parts of your character's story. Now, there are some unconventional solutions. You don't have to be a slick politician. Say you're just playing a big bruiser, or a taciturn woodsman, or a drow -- your answer might be something like "I'm just a bodyguard. Spent a few years guarding nobles and merchants and the like. I may not be the guy running a kingdom but I'm the one who keeps that guy from getting killed." or "Yeah, most people don't like me, but they don't have to. I can survive in the wild for months, blaze trails across unexplored land, and track a halfling across a volcano. You want wilds tamed and bandits dead, I'm your man." or "Sure, humans have never trusted my kind. But I'm vouched for by one of your own -- an upstanding member of society. You want him, you get me too."

Hope that helps! :D

I'm going to be submitting a Ranger (human) who will be a mix of combat and skill expertise. I have no issue in taking a few levels in rogue or slayer if need be.

Hello Dm Jesse! I'm currently studying in order to become a diplomat and i loved the idea of making a Centaur kind of diplomat between the kingdom and the centaur tribes. How could we work this out? On my part I love writing and have been driven into the Pathfinder world one year ago or so. Hence my knowledge isn't the one of a veteran but I hope this doesn't creates problems.

Thank you!

Looking over your chart, I see that my IC name is missing, which is probably my fault for a: posting a novel, and b: not making sure it was clearly defined in an/(several) obvious spot(s). Also, I reread the Character Guidelines Doc, and see that I missed that background skills are in effect, so! 10! skill points a level! (4 base, 1 human, 3 int, 2 background).

(Huscarl) Carrack Athelstan, Aegis 1. Also noted in my rereading, is your stance on drawbacks, and traits. I will consider on a drawback, and may take an enhanced wealth trait to represent the last of my 'retirement' several years ago, and earnings from Brevoy over the last couple years.

Thematically fitting drawbacks include

Fey Taken:
yes, I know JUST enough that this a dangerous trait for this AP,
or Shadow Scarred to represent lasting effects from my childhood. (Basic history/description > Memory for reference)

Also, as for KM games? I've looked at at least 6 in the last half year, and none of them made it far. While I'm hopeful this one will last, I see LOTS of competition. Good luck everyone!

I have just found this recruitment, so will throw my hat in now before it closes on me. I just have to buy gear and sort out a backstory.

Kerri Corynian is a Female, Halfling Sorceress of the Draconic bloodline. I figure I should finally try it out.

Here's the background I was thinking:

Goyarg's Background:

The dwarf may have a rage, but he is well trusted do to the fact that he comes from a family of skilled blacksmiths and weapon crafters. It's even said that his earth breaker was created by the very first dwarf in his family to break to the surface during the Quest for Sky. Although Goyarg still has much to learn about being a blacksmith, he knows enough to get some people to respect his skills.

Goyarg's main goal in the travel is to spread the influence of his family's blacksmith and weapon craft business-he feels like such talent shouldn't be stuck in just his home town. He believes that the swordlords would definitely support him, cause his family does make swords-and what's a swordlord without a sword?

Also, I didn't see my name on that list.

EDIT: You said that we can take a drawback to get an extra trait. But how many traits do you want each player to have? I'm a bit confused on that one.

I would like to submit a human Magus Eldritch {w/Fey blood line}.

Rough outline:
name: TBD, human Magus Eldritch{fey}, Arcane / Melee

He is a fey foundling raised in house Medvyed. His fey connection has drawn him to spend time in the green looking for answers about the fey and where he came from.

The swordlords are looking for loyal and capable people to settle the stolen lands. Magus (name TBD) is capable both with magic and sword. He is driven to uncover the lost history of the stolen lands particular any fey connections. He is a natural in dealing with people and speaks many languages. While being a loyal member of house Medvyed, he is more importantly expendable should the wilds of the river lands prove too much.
As for skeletons in the closet the fact that he is a foundling may make people question his loyalty and motives.

disclose :
I have played in kingmaker through the first two books and then DM the Third book for the same group (it was a DM round robin type game) before the group stopped. I've had lots of practice keeping keeping meta knowledge out of my game play.

Here is my partial application for a LN oracle.

Class: Oracle
Role: Partial Healer/Party face/Battle controller
Race: Human

Backstory:

'Prod and pull,' the old woman was saying, 'It’s the way of the King, as like the gods themselves.' She leaned to one side and spat, then brought a soiled cloth to her wrinkled lips. 'Three husbands and two sons I saw off to war.'

The fishergirl's eyes shone as she watched the column of mounted soldiers thunder past, and she only half listened to the hag standing beside her. The girl's breath had risen to the pace of the magnificent horses. She felt her face burning, a flush that had nothing to do with the heat. The day was dying, the sun's red smear over the trees on her right, and the sea's sighing against her face had grown cool.

'That was in the days of the Choral,' the hag continued. 'Pharasma roast the bastard's soul on a spit. But look on, lass. The King scatters bones with the best of them. Heh, They started with his house, didn't they, now?'

The fishergirl nodded faintly. As befitted the lowborn, they waited by the roadside, the old woman burdened beneath a rough sack filled with turnips, the girl with a heavy basket balanced on her head. Every minute or so the old woman shifted the sack from one bony shoulder to the other.

With the riders crowding them on the road and the ditch behind them a steep drop to broken rocks, she had no place to put down the sack.

'Scatters bones, I said. Bones of husbands, bones of sons, bones of wives and bones of daughters. All the same to them. All the same to the House Surtova.' The old woman spat a second time. 'Three husbands and two sons, ten coin apiece a year. Five of ten's fifty. Fifty coin a year's cold company, lass. Cold in winter, cold in bed.'

The fishergirl wiped dust from her forehead. Her bright eyes darted among the soldiers passing before her. The young men atop their highbacked saddles held expressions stern and fixed straight ahead. The few women who rode among them sat tall and somehow fiercer than the men. The sunset cast red glints from their helms, flashing so that the girl's eyes stung and her vision blurred.

'You're the fisherman's daughter,' the old woman said. 'I seen you afore on the road, and down on the strand. Seen you and your dad at market. Missing an arm, ain't he? More bones for their collection is likely, eh?' She made a chopping motion with one hand, then nodded. 'Mine's the first house on the track. I use the coin to buy candles. Five candles I burn every night, five candles to keep old Rigga company. It's a tired house, full of tired things and me one of them, lass. What you got in the basket there?'

Slowly the fishergirl realized that a question had been asked of her. She pulled her attention from the soldiers and smiled down at the old woman. 'I'm sorry,' she said, 'the horses are so loud.'

Rigga raised her voice. 'I asked what you got in your basket, lass?'

'Twine. Enough for three nets. We need to get one ready for tomorrow. Dadda lost his last one—something in the deep waters took it and a whole catch, too. Ilgrand Lender wants the money he loaned us and we need a catch tomorrow. A good one.' She smiled again and swept her gaze back to the soldiers. 'Isn't it wonderful?' she breathed.

Rigga's hand shot out and snagged the girl's thick black hair, yanked it hard.

The girl cried out. The basket on her head lurched, then slid down on to one shoulder. She grabbed frantically for it but it was too heavy. The basket struck the ground and split apart. 'Aaai!' the girl gasped, attempting to kneel. But Rigga pulled and snapped her head around.

'You listen to me, lass!' The old woman's sour breath hissed against the girl's face. ' Choral the usurper king has been grinding this land down for a hundred years, and now King Noleski does the same. You was born in it. I wasn't. When I was your age this was a country. We flew a banner and it was ours. We were free, lass.'

The girl was sickened by Rigga's breath. She squeezed shut her eyes.

'Mark this truth, child, else the Cloak of Lies blinds you for ever.'

Rigga's voice took on a droning cadence, and all at once the girl stiffened. Rigga, Riggalai the Seer, the wax-witch who trapped souls in candles and burned them. Souls devoured in flame—Rigga's words carried the chilling tone of prophecy. 'Mark this truth. I am the last to speak to you. You are the last to hear me. Thus are we linked, you and I, beyond all else.'

Rigga's fingers snagged tighter in the girl's hair. 'Across the stolen lands the Lord’s will drive their knife into virgin soil. The blood now will comes in a tide and it'll sweep you under, child, if you're not careful. They'll put a sword in your hand, they'll give you a fine horse, and they'll send you across those lands. But a shadow will embrace your soul. Now, listen! Bury this deep! Rigga will preserve you because we are linked, you and I. But it is all I can do, understand? Look to the Lord spawned in Darkness; his is the hand that shall free you, though he'll know it not—'

'What's this?' a voice bellowed.

Rigga swung to face the road. An outrider had slowed his mount. The Seer released the girl's hair.

The girl staggered back a step. A rock on the road's edge turned underfoot and she fell. When she looked up the outrider had trotted past.

Another thundered up in his wake.

'Leave the pretty one alone, hag,' this one growled, and as he rode by he leaned in his saddle and swung an open, gauntleted hand. The ironscaled glove cracked against Rigga's head, spinning her around. She toppled.

The fishergirl screamed as Rigga landed heavily across her thighs. A bead of crimson spit spattered her face. Whimpering the girl pushed herself back across the gravel, then used her feet to shove away Rigga's body. She climbed to her knees.

Something within Rigga's prophecy seemed lodged in the girl's head, heavy as a stone and hidden from light. She found she could not retrieve a single word the Seer had said. She reached out and grasped Rigga's woollen shawl. Carefully, she rolled the old woman over. Blood covered one side of Rigga's head, running down behind the ear. More blood smeared her lined chin and stained her mouth. The eyes stared sightlessly.

The fishergirl pulled back, unable to catch her breath. Desperate, she looked about. The column of soldiers had passed, leaving nothing but dust and the distant tremble of hoofs. Rigga's bag of turnips had spilled on to the road. Among the trampled vegetables lay five tallow candles.

The girl managed a ragged lungful of dusty air. Wiping her nose, she looked to her own basket.

'Never mind the candles,' she mumbled, in a thick, odd voice. 'They're gone, aren't they, now? just a scattering of bones. Never mind.' She crawled towards the bundles of twine that had fallen from the breached basket, and when she spoke again her voice was young, normal. 'We need the twine. We'll work all night and get one ready. Dadda's waiting. He's right at the door, he's looking up the track, he's waiting to see me.’

She stopped, a shiver running through her. The sun's light was almost gone. An unseasonal chill bled from the shadows, which now flowed like water across the road.

'Here it comes, then,' the girl grated softly, in a voice that wasn't her own.

A soft-gloved hand fell on her shoulder. She ducked down, cowering. 'Easy, girl,' said a man's voice. 'It's over. Nothing to be done for her now.'

The fishergirl looked up. A man swathed in black leaned over her, his face obscured beneath a hood's shadow. 'But he hit her,' the girl said, in child's voice. 'And we have nets to tie, me and Dadda—'

'Let's get you on your feet,' the man said, moving his long-fingered hands down under her arms. He straightened, lifting her effortlessly. Her sandalled feet dangled in the air before he set her down.

Now she saw a second man, shorter, also clothed in black. This one stood on the road and was turned away, his gaze in the direction the soldiers had gone. He spoke, his voice reed-thin. 'Wasn't much of a life,' he said, not turning to face her. 'A minor talent, long since dried up the Gift. Oh, she might have managed one more, but we'll never know will we?'

The fishergirl stumbled over to Rigga's bag and picked up a candle. She straightened, her eyes suddenly hard, then deliberately spat on to the road.

The shorter man's head snapped towards her. Within the hood seemed the shadows played alone.

The girl shrank back a step. 'It was a good life,' she whispered. 'She had these candles, you see. Five of them. Five for—'

'Necromancy,' the short man cut in.

The taller man, still at her side, said softly, 'I see them, child. I understand what they mean.'

The other man snorted. 'The witch harboured five frail, weak souls. Nothing grand.' He cocked his head. 'I can hear them now. Calling for her.'

Tears filled the girl's eyes. A wordless anguish seemed to well up from that black stone in her mind. She wiped her cheeks. 'Where did you come from?' she asked abruptly. 'We didn't see you on the road.'

The man beside her half turned to the gravel track. 'On the other side,' he said, a smile in his tone. 'Waiting, just like you.'

The other giggled. 'On the other side indeed.' He faced down the road again and raised his arms.

The girl drew in a sharp breath as darkness descended. A loud, tearing sound filled the air for a second, then the darkness dissipated and the girl's eyes widened.

Seven massive Hounds now sat around the man in the road. The eyes of these beasts glowed yellow, and all were turned in the same direction as the man himself.

She heard him hiss, 'Eager, are we? Then go.' Silently, the Hounds bolted down the road.

Their master turned and said to the man beside her, 'Something to gnaw on the King’s mind.' He giggled again.

'Must you complicate things?' the other answered wearily.

The short man stiffened. 'They are within sight of the column.'

He cocked his head. From up the road came the scream of horses.

He sighed. 'You've reached a decision, Cotillion?'

The other grunted amusedly. 'Using my name, Ammanas, means you've just decided for me. We can hardly leave her here now, can we?'

'Of course we can, old friend. just not breathing.'

Cotillion looked down on the girl. 'No,' he said quietly, she’ll do.'

The fishergirl bit her lip. Still clutching Rigga's candle, she took another step back, her wide eyes darting from one man to the other.

'Pity,' Ammanas said.

Cotillion seemed to nod, then he cleared his throat and said, 'It'll take time.'

An amused note entered Ammanas's reply. 'And have we time? True vengeance needs the slow, careful stalking of the victim. Have you forgotten the pain they once delivered us? The Brevoy’s back will be against the wall. They might not fall without our intervention. Where would be the satisfaction in that?'

Cotillion's response was cool and dry. 'You've always underestimated them. Hence our present circumstances… No.' He gestured at the fishergirl. 'We'll need this one. The Swordlord’s raised the ire of Moon's Spawn, and that's a hornet's nest if ever there was one. The timing is perfect.'

Faintly, above the screaming horses, came the shrieks of men and women, a sound that pierced the girl's heart. Her eyes darted to Rigga's motionless form on the roadside, then back to Ammanas, who now approached her. She thought to run but her legs had weakened to a helpless trembling. He came close and seemed to study her, even though the shadows within his hood remained impenetrable.

'A fishergirl?' he asked, in a kindly tone.

She nodded.

'Have you a name?'

'Enough!' Cotillion growled. 'She's not some mouse under your paw, Ammanas. Besides, I've chosen her and I will choose her name as well.'

Ammanas stepped back. 'Pity,' he said again.

The girl raised imploring hands. 'Please,' she begged Cotillion, 'I've done nothing! My father's a poor man, but he'll pay you all he can. He needs me, and the twine—he's waiting right now!' She felt herself go wet between her legs and quickly sat down on the ground. 'I've done nothing!' Shame rose through her and she put her hands in her lap.

'Please.'

'I've no choice any more, child,' Cotillion said. 'After all, you know our names.'

'I've never heard them before!' the girl cried.

The man sighed. "With what's happening up the road right now, well, you'd be questioned. Unpleasantly. There are those who know our names.'

'You see, lass,' Ammanas added, suppressing a giggle, 'we're not supposed to be here. There are names, and then there are names.' He swung to Cotillion and said, in a chilling voice, 'Her father must be dealt with. My Hounds?'

'No,' Cotillion said. 'He lives.'

'Then how?'

'I suspect,' Cotillion said, 'greed will suffice, once the slate is wiped clean.' Sarcasm filled his next words. 'I'm sure you can manage the sorcery in that, can't you?'

Ammanas giggled. 'Beware of shadows bearing gifts.'

Cotillion faced the girl again. He lifted his arms out to the sides. The shadows that held his features in darkness now flowed out around his body.

Ammanas spoke, and to the girl his words seemed to come from a great distance. 'She's ideal. They could never track her down, could never even so much as guess.' He raised his voice. 'It's not so bad a thing, lass, to be the pawn of a god.'

'Prod and pull,' the fishergirl said quickly.

Cotillion hesitated at her strange comment, then he shrugged. The shadows whirled out to engulf the girl. With their cold touch her mind fell away, down into darkness. Her last fleeting sensation was of the soft wax of the candle in her right hand, and how it seemed to well up between the fingers of her clenched fist

Character Introduction:

It was the eighth day of recruiting and Staff Sergeant Aragan sat blearyeyed behind his desk as yet another whelp was prodded forward by the corporal. They'd had some luck here in West Pool. Fishing's best in the backwaters, West Pool 's Captain had said. All they get around here is stories. Stories don't make you bleed. Stories don't make you go hungry, don't give you sore feet. When you're young and smelling of pigshit and convinced there ain't a weapon in all the damn world that's going to hurt you, all stories do is make you want to be part of them.

The old woman was right. As usual. These people had been under the boot so long they actually liked it. Well, Aragan thought, the education begins here.

It had been a bad day, with the local captain roaring off with three companies and leaving not one solid rumour in their wake about what was going on. And if that wasn't bad enough, the Lord's Inquisitor arrived from Restov not ten minutes later, using one of those eerie magical Gates to get here. Though he'd never seen her, just her name on the hot, dry wind was enough to give him the shakes. Mage killer, the scorpion in the Lord’s pocket.

Aragan scowled down at the writing tablet and waited until the corporal cleared his throat. Then he looked up.

The recruit standing before him took the staff sergeant aback. He opened his mouth, on his tongue a lashing tirade designed to send the young ones scampering. A second later he shut it again, the words unspoken. West Pool 's Captain had made her instructions abundantly clear: if they had two arms, two legs and a head, take them. The campaign was a mess. Fresh bodies were needed.
He grinned at the girl. She matched the Captain's description perfectly.

Still. 'All right, lass, you understand you're in line to join the Restov Marines, right?'

The girl nodded, her gaze steady and cool and fixed on Aragan.

The recruiter's expression tightened. Damn, she can't be more than twelve or thirteen. If this was my daughter…

What's got her eyes looking so bloody old? The last time he'd seen anything like them had been outside Gronzi Forest, on Sagava—he'd been marching through farmland hit by five years' drought and a war twice as long. Those old eyes were brought by hunger, or death. He scowled. 'What's your name, girl?'

'Am I in, then?' she asked quietly.

Aragan nodded, a sudden headache pounding against the inside of his skull. 'You'll get your assignment in a week's time, unless you got a preference.'

'Stolen lands campaign,' the girl answered immediately. 'Under the command of General Dujek Onearm. Onearm's Host.'

Aragan blinked. 'I'll make a note,' he said softly. 'Your name, soldier?'

'Sorry. My name is Sorry.'

Aragan jotted the name down on his tablet. 'Dismissed, soldier. The corporal will tell you where to go.' He looked up as she was near the door. 'And wash all that mud off your feet.' Aragan continued writing for a moment, then stopped. It hadn't rained in weeks. And the mud around here was half-way between green and grey, not dark red. He tossed down the stylus and massaged his temples. Well, at least the headache's fading.

==//==

High General Dujek marched back to Jack's side, his hard expression softened slightly with relief. From the trapdoor, voices rose in argument. 'They've arrived,' Dujek said. 'Giving your new recruit an earful about something—and don't tell me what because I don't want to know.'

Jack's momentary relief was shattered by what he only now realized was the secret hope that Sorry had deserted. So his men had found her after all, or she had found them. Either way, his veterans did not sound happy to see her. He couldn't blame them. Had she tried to kill Hubert? That seemed to be the suspicion of Ben and Alam.

Alam was doing most of the bellowing, putting more into his role as corporal than was warranted, and Dujek's searching glance at Jack was enough to push him towards the trap-door. He came to the edge and glared down into the room below. Everyone was there, standing in a menacing circle around Sorry, who leaned against the ladder as if bored by the whole proceedings.

'Quiet!' Jack roared down. 'Check your supplies and get up here, now!' He watched them scamper, then gave a satisfied nod and returned to where the High General waited.

Dujek was rubbing the stump of his left arm, frowning distractedly.

'Damn this weather,' he muttered.

'A healer could ease that,' Jack said.

'Not necessary,' Dujek replied. 'I'm just getting old.' He scratched his jaw. 'All of your heavy supplies have been delivered to the drop point. Ready to move, Sergeant?'

Jack eyed the ridged saddles on the horses, then nodded sharply.

They watched as the squad members emerged from the square doorway, each wearing a raincape and burdened with a heavy pack. Some were engaged in a whispering argument, casting a glare back at the barbarian who'd trodden on their heels. The barbarian had attached his entire collection of charms, trinkets and trophies to various parts of his burly body, looking like a bedecked leadwood tree during the Kanese of the Scorpions. The recruit, Sorry waiting at the horses. Her satchel was no bigger than a bedroll, and the raincape she wore was more like a cloak—not standard issue—reaching down to her ankles. She'd raised the hood. Despite the dawn's burgeoning light her face remained in shadow. This is all I have left. Jack sighed.

Dujek asked quietly, 'How is she doing, Sergeant?'

'Still breathing,' Jack replied stonily.

The High General slowly shook his head. 'So damn young these days . . .'

A memory returned to Jack as he considered Dujek's words.

On a brief attachment to the 5th, away from the siege at Pale, in the midst of the Sageva Campaign, Sorry had joined them from the new troops arriving at Nathilog. He'd watched her put a knife to three local mercenaries they'd taken prisoner in Greydog—ostensibly to glean information but, he recalled with a shudder, it had been nothing like that. Not an act of expedience. He had stared aghast, horrified, as Sorry set to work on their loins. He remembered meeting Alam's gaze, and the desperate gesture that sent the black man surging forward, knives bared. Alam had pushed past Sorry and with three quick motions had laid open the men's throats. And then came the moment that still twisted Jack's heart. In their last, frothing words, the mercenaries had blessed Alam.

Sorry had merely sheathed her weapon, then walked away.

Though the woman had been with the squad for two years, still his men called her a recruit, and they would probably do so until the day they died. There was a meaning there, and Jack understood it well. Recruits were not brothers. The stripping away of that label was an earned thing, a recognition brought by deeds. Sorry was a recruit because the thought of having her inextricably enfolded within the army burned like a hot knife in the throat of everyone in his squad. And that was something to which the sergeant himself was not immune.

As all of this flashed through Jack's thoughts, his usually impassive expression failed him. In his head, he replied: Young? No, you can forgive the young, you can answer their simple needs, and you can look in their eyes and find enough there that is recognizable. But her?

No. Best to avoid those eyes, in which there was nothing that was young—nothing at all.

'Let's get you moving, to Restov.' Dujek growled. 'Mount everyone up.' Without turning to Jack, the general said ”She may be ideal for the stolen lands. The Sword Lords are funding adventurers.”

The High General turned to say a few last words to the sergeant, but what he saw in Jack's face killed those words in his throat.

Recommendation Letter:

Memorandum for the Swordlords

Subject: Stolen Lands

1. I am privileged to write in support of one of our members, Corporal Sorry. Corporal Sorry was assigned to our campaign and has worked here for almost two years. During that time I have witnessed her tremendous growth and development. This development came not only in the area of combat arms, but in maturity and character as well.

2. Corporal Sorry arrived here as a trainee, eager to make her mark and expecting to make quick progress through the ranks. At first, she had difficulty accepting her place as a young, less experienced Soldier and resented the efforts of her superiors to further her training. But eventually, she learned the valuable trait of humility and enjoyed the opportunity to learn from her older peers and supervisors.

3. She quickly learned to manage her time, work in group situations under strict deadlines, and to recognize the importance of a strong work ethic, persistence, and integrity. She has become the most valuable and dependable member of our section and is a role model for newly assigned Soldiers.

4. I recommend Corporal Sorry to explore the Stolen Lands program with absolute confidence. She has made me proud, as her friend and supervisor, and I am sure will continue to do so as she grows in your care and beyond.

High General Dujek Onearm

I'll work in the character sheet and post it later today or tomorrow.

Right, so home now and have sorted out everything for Kerri apart from the Backstory, which I will do now.

Kerri's role is Arcane support (so some damaging spells and some buffing spells), but she is primarily a Diplomat. She is also a cook.

If my profile is not easy enough to read, please tell me and I will try to adjust it based on one of your preference.

My background and crunch can be seen in my alias. Let me know if you'd like me to explain anything, change anything, whatever. :) I’m new to the background skills but I think I did it right.

I’ve DMed and Played on these boards for a few years now, and I’ve always been an active and supportive poster in every campaign. Please feel free to peruse my aliases and campaigns.

If selected, I can also help with treasure tracking if you like. I have a useful spreadsheet that I use in campaigns I'm in to help track that sort of thing so you don’t have to. You should be able to see a version of it here (link).

Finally, I have played Kingmaker through a few of the books before the campaign died. However, I'll do my best to keep my player knowledge from muddying the game. Things can change so much in this sandboxy campaign I'm sure it won't be a problem, but I'll always recuse myself from a decision I remember the outcome of.

The answers to your questions:
If any of these go too far, let me know and I’ll alter it

“Why should the swordlords trust you with this important job?"
Femi has spent time in prison, that’s true, but it was a minor offense and he did the time without complaint and heartily. Though imprisoned, he still did his best to lift up his fellow prisoners - and the prison itself - by suggesting improvements and even in one case, saving the life of a guard who had been attacked by an inmate (infernal healing).

“How do you plan to set up a new nation and establish the trust and loyalty of the people?”
”I know the people my lords, these are my people. Sure, I’m not from around here, but I know how the common man thinks and I speak their language - the language of the streets. Trust is given to those who are fair and even generous and I’ll be those things, having known hunger in my own life.”
Femi is a man of the people, and very charismatic. He makes friends easily and works hard to keep them.

“What sorts of religious and legal strictures do you think should be part of a new nation?”
”While I feel the people should chose their own religious edifices, the law is the law. I imagine we’d have the same, or similar, legal structure as we have here in Restov.”
Using Knowledge Local, and his own, ah, legal experiences, Femi will outline a plan that looks very much like Restovs. In truth, he does not care much about the legal structure, so long as there is freedom enough for men to be men and live their own lives.

“Do you have particular plans and goals? Why should the swordlords support those goals?”
Femi feels destined for greatness, and he hopes this opportunity puts him on that path. He tells the swordlords that he has already overcome much in his life to make it this far, and with their show of support, he can only make it farther still. He has a deep and broad foundation from which to build an exceptional civilization - something that will last through the ages and be remembered.

“Do you have a criminal background? Is there anything we should know now that might cause problems later in your political future if it were to get out to the public?”
”Sure, I’ve seen the inside of a prison, but that’s why you want me. I am a man of the people. They know me. I cannot be brought down by scandal because everything is already out there - and accepted by all decent folk. I have nothing hidden my friends, this is who I am.”

Answers:

"Why should the swordlords trust you with this important job?"

Kerri is a very honest person, she may omit parts of the truth sometimes but she never lies. She has grown a small reputation for being able to solve disputes between people and the Swordlords believe that skill will prove useful in this endeavor.

"How do you plan to set up a new nation and establish the trust and loyalty of the people?"

Having spent most of her life serving as the chiefs diplomatic adviser, Kerri is used solving problems and keeping the peace. Due to her honest nature she easily gains the trust and respect of others easily. She wouldn't know how to go about starting a new nation, but she knows about running villages and making sure things go smoothly.

"What sorts of religious and legal strictures do you think should be part of a new nation?"

As long as people follow the laws that are set down, they can worship whomever they wish. Slavery will definitely be treated harshly as no man woman or child has the right over another's life.

"Do you have particular plans and goals? Why should the swordlords support those goals?"

Kerri would like to start a community where Halflings can come from far and wide, knowing that they will be safe from slavery. Those who arrive after fleeing from such fates will find themselves free. They will work for the benefit of the community, pay wages and generally help the community grow. Such a large community can be a great ally.

"Do you have a criminal background? Is there anything we should know now that might cause problems later in your political future if it were to get out to the public?"

Kerri has no criminal background, she has always held the law with the highest regard, knowing they are there to protect them. The only problem that she may cause is her inability to break the law, those who demand her to do such lose a part of her trust until they are able to earn it back or give an extremely good reason as to why they want the certain law broken.

Background is now completed, I may add a little bit to it her and there when I can think of some. But the basic idea of it is all there. Everything should be under this alias.

Character Player Race & Class Role
?????????? Arknight Ranger/Hunter? Ranged?

I think I'm going for a 'frontiersman' style build, alternating between Gunslinger (Musket Master) and Ranger (Guide, Trapper) to begin with. As a follower of Gozreh and taking one of his religion traits (don't recall which one offhand), he will be able to have Survival as a class skill for his Gunslinger class and keep that pumped as he goes. I think he will have the Pioneer campaign trait to represent him basically having grown up in the wilderness, and I see him having learned to use the musket when a traveller from Alkenstar passed through and out of gratitude and as payment for food and shelter taught him to use it and create his Ammo, etc.

His backup weapon will probably be a Boarding axe and buckler for those time folks get in close.....

I should have some crunch done later today as I should have some time to relax after celebrating my birthday with family.... :)

Going to a friend's wedding today, will catch up either late tonight or tomorrow.

KoolKobold: Start with two traits, one of which is a campaign trait.

My understanding is omce it's a class skill it doesn't matter you can keep upping it. So depending on why you're taking it you could wait until you take your ranger level.

Just as a heads up, you have my application in the spreadsheet but the character's name is Dane Ajur(sorry, it was kind of hidden in the backstory stuff).
I'm afraid that I can't afford to get a mount, so I'll be stuck at 20ft movement for a bit until I can change that.

I can see Telmarni being melee combat with arcane support.

Answers:

"Why should the swordlords trust you with this important job?"
Telmarni was sent to assist with another member of her adopted family. Her parents see this as a means to help her grow in the world, and not just a member of a small part of her adopted family.

"How do you plan to set up a new nation and establish the trust and loyalty of the people?"
Telmarni doesn't see why she should. But to help her family, she would do her best. She would care to try to keep people around her content with her. That way, no one should attack her out of hand just for her appearance.

"What sorts of religious and legal strictures do you think should be part of a new nation?"
Telmarni doesn't really follow any religion. But she does heed the teachings of Desna. Which her adopted parents hold in high regards. Since it was while they were traveling did they find her.

"Do you have particular plans and goals? Why should the swordlords support those goals?"
Telmarni doesn't have any particular goals at this time. She just knows that her parents want her to help another family member on this mission.

"Do you have a criminal background? Is there anything we should know now that might cause problems later in your political future if it were to get out to the public?"
Telmarni does not have any criminal history. The slave mark on her back might raise eyebrows, but other than that, the challenge is being a Strix that people distrust already.

Wow, those questions really help in character development. I hope my answers help in my choice! :)

DM, those are some amazing questions and really make a lot of sense now that I have thought about them.

If I get selected into the group, anyone who has had to suffer as a slave will get a long with Kerri as she despises slavers. Also as Dragonflyer1234 said he doesn't have the money for a mount, if we get selected I can lend you the money at the beginning.

Hello again KoolKobold, hopefully we have better luck on being selected for this campaign.

Sovereign Court

I think my initial sheet already answers all the questions, but if you need more info, just say it!

Kerri Corynian wrote:

Hello there. You've already ingratiated yourself to Sahi.

Sovereign Court

GM, this is Michelle Williams / Stratos from previously in the thread. I'd submitted my background for Ivan, but I've created an alias for him.

The alias does not currently include an inventory; I prefer to tailor itemized bookkeeping to party composition. If you'd rather I did it blind, I'll fill it out now.

As to your questions, the IC responses:

Why should the swordlords trust you with this important job?:
My mother's contacts have fabricated claims on behalf of my ability to confront and manage discord. They won't be disappointed, though they may be surprised...

How do you plan to set up a new nation and establish the trust and loyalty of the people?:
I can give them something genuine to believe in: themselves. The trick will be to ensure there are enough people to form a clergy.

What sorts of religious and legal strictures do you think should be part of a new nation?:
That depends on who is part of it. A light tax of goods and emphasis on self-defense will do at the outset, and until something can be more establishmentarian, let them pray to Desna for their needs.

Do you have particular plans and goals? Why should the swordlords support those goals?:
The buffer nation I seek to create would be beneficial for both of us. For them, they would have a distraction from those that would target them, and for me, I would have a bit of weight to toss around in the next stage of my plan.

Do you have a criminal background? Is there anything we should know now that might cause problems later in your political future if it were to get out to the public?:
As long as you don't know about it, it can't be a problem, can it?

Let me know your critiques!

Here would be Dane's answers to the questions!

Why should the swordlords trust you with this important job?:
Because there's nobody you can rely on with more confidence. I and my fellow brothers have served you faithfully and well, and if that does not earn your trust in me, then you need only know that I am bound by my code and would do nothing to betray our mission.

How do you plan to set up a new nation and establish the trust and loyalty of the people?:
I think that those go hand in hand. When we arrive, I don't expect to find the land entirely empty and I hope to treat fairly with the natives in order to create a mutually beneficial situation. By doing so, I will make it much easier to establish our settlement and our group as a whole will see that our goals and methods are respectable. I've found that when men feel that they're doing the right thing, they're far more amenable to and supportive of their leaders.

What sorts of religious and legal strictures do you think should be part of a new nation?:
If you're asking if I'm one of those paladins who converts people at the sword, then I'm not. Of course I seek to promote the lady Iomadae, but I will advocate that our settlers be free to worship as they wish so long as it harms no one. I'm sure that we'll be accompanied by others who are more learned than me when it comes to laws, but I will do right by our settlement so long as it's in my power, and I will seek to ensure a good life for everyone who accompanies us or joins our kingdom.

Do you have particular plans and goals? Why should the swordlords support those goals?:
Not aside from the general promotion of Iomadae and doing as she wishes, which will likely include creating a large following of her worshippers in the settlement. I would say that there's no reason for you to oppose such a goal, so long as it doesn't interfere with the charter as a whole, which it will not. I have no intention of forcing anyone to profess their faith in Iomadae or in suppressing any other religions, so there is no harm done.

Do you have a criminal background? Is there anything we should know now that might cause problems later in your political future if it were to get out to the public?:
Absolutely not. The nice thing about hiring a paladin is that so long as I have my powers, which is pretty easy to tell, then you usually know that I've led a pretty clean lifestyle.

Since someone asked, a clarification: The questionnaire is sort of a thought experiment to help your character develop with the story of Kingmaker. Don't consider it mandatory, nor would this be something that actually happens pre-game -- the initial charter for the AP is not to make a new nation, but just to clear out the bandits and monsters of the stolen lands. Nevertheless, the game inevitably develops to kingdom-building, and these questions should help you think about what role your character will fill, and how your relations with Brevoy will function, when that time arrives.

You do not have to answer the questionnaire to get into the game -- it is simply there as an aide to thinking about your character story.

Another thing worth mentioning on your character submissions, though, is what kind of kingdom you may eventually build. You don't want to get to 7th level or so and then have the game fall apart because the party can't agree on how the kingdom should grow! :D

P.S. Friend's wedding was great.

religion traits (don't recall which one offhand), he will be able to have Survival as a class skill for his Gunslinger class and keep that pumped as he goes.

My understanding is omce it's a class skill it doesn't matter you can keep upping it. So depending on why you're taking it you could wait until you take your ranger level.

You are correct! Basically in Pathfinder, if you put a rank in a skill and you ever get that skill as a class skill, you get a one-time +3 bonus.

Just as a heads up, you have my application in the spreadsheet but the character's name is Dane Ajur(sorry, it was kind of hidden in the backstory stuff).

I'm afraid that I can't afford to get a mount, so I'll be stuck at 20ft movement for a bit until I can change that.

Got Dane updated in the spreadsheet. Having speed 20' is not awful, it just means that when the group first starts exploring, it takes you a few extra days to explore your starting area. Eventually you'll get treasure and presumably then you'll get a horse. :)

You can select your inventory after the party's put together.

Luckily I think I have already answered what kind of Kingdom / Queendom / Nation Kerri would like to build in the questions.

DM, I have put a rank into Profession (Cook/Chef), just wondering on your opinion of this? I understand we will be travelling in the wilderness, so I figured cooking each night with game caught etc would be good, but would it be a wasted skill point?

answers:

Why trust me?I have no hidden agendas, what i'm straight forward about what i want and will do whatever it takes to get what i want.

I have some experience in leading a nation even if only a few days i know what it takes. A leader needs to be more than a pretty face or a figure head. A leader should lead from the front lines and fight along their soldiers.

All people are entitled to their separate beliefs, as long as those beliefs don't bring harm to others. As for myself, i follow Sarenrae with my body as it is part of me believes prayer can save me.

I guess i seek to create a nation for those without true homes, the sword-lords can support this if they wish doing so might garner them an ally if they do. Everyone benefits from having allies...

My background is my own, i am no criminal although i cannot speak for my relatives. I however am not them.

Saw others doing it figured i throw one in myself even if not required

Perfectly legitimate use of a background skill. May not come up super often, but great for RP flavor.

I would love to get in on this!

I am very much decided on making an Ifrit, and strongly considering a support(ish) paladin. Gonna roll it up.

I am however also toying with a bard, but I shall make a choice ASAP. Gonna post as soon as I can! :D

Iff here, I've finished my character so far and created an alias. All info on Bogdan is in the profile, for your consideration. I went with Slayer after trying out some other options; Even though I don't see Bogdan as bloodthirsty at all, the slayer abilities (especially with the Vanguard archetype) fits the concept best.

Please note that I changed his last name. I initially took a 'common' last name since he is a nobleman's bastard (borrowing a page from Game of Thrones), but when writing the background, I felt it would make more sense that he'd take his mother's family name. Because of that, I picked something that evoked the flavor of Brevoy.
