As Lars and Talon look for firewood the odd couple stumbles across the a pair of human-sized legs and feet jutting from a pile of snow on the far bank of the creek.
As they investigate, they find the legs attached to the frozen corpse of Old Man Dansby, the neighbor of Agatha, who lost his prize bull back in Heldren. The man, a former Taldor soldier, apparently went out to look for old Brutus and was taken unaware by the ice elementals.
On his person are the weapons of his youth which are still in surprisingly good condition: a composite longbow (+1 draw STR), 12 normal arrows, a dagger, a MW handaxe, and a small purse containing 14 gp, 25 sp, and 18 cp.
Are you planning to camp here, or just warm up for a bit before moving on? Still middle of afternoon based on time spent so far. In case you missed it, Talon at 1 hp, might use some healing if any is available. Split the coins on your Cash Tracker; please let me know who takes the weapons, or if you leave them.

"You know I don't believe I'd ever thought I'd see a man die this way....got respect him though, he didn't take his bull being taken lying down" Commented Lars, his eyes studying the corpse casually, before picking up the axe that at the moment lacked an owner.
"I am used to something heavier, but I guess it will do...anyone wants the fey killing sword?" Asked the blond as he patted the sheath of the coldiron sword, then he looked to the group and his blue inquisitive eyes stopped at Meditrina "You haven't said anything for quite a while, you sure the cold isn't bothering you?"
I am fine with whatever the group decides. If no one wants the Handaxe Lars will take it for now, and sell it once he has enough for a masterwork battle axe or longsword.

"Oh poor Dansby, you should have stayed at home. Just another one to avenge!" Agatha gathers his items and offers his weapons to the others, but if he has relatives to return them after this trek. As they are now double in trouble. First the bull, than the father, they could be facing poverty now.

Trawets Aarock |

Trawets warms his hands and considers for a moment.
"As far as resources go, my spell granting me armor is good for a little less than an hour. I have all my other spells available plus some other magical resources. The question is, if we wait will the Lady come to harm?"

DM DoctorEvil |

I was sort of waiting for you guys to come to a decision about camping or continuing, but I don't see that there is a definitive consensus. I don't believe it will harm the Lady of Taldor for you to rest if that's what you choose, but exposure and wandering monsters are a concern. Someone please speak for the group and make the decision.

DM DoctorEvil |

With said channel, everyone is full of HP, who is at 4/11. I am assuming you are resting for at least 8 hours, and he can gain 1 more hP. Can you give me a schedule of watches? It looks like you will have a nocturnal visitor...
WM: 1d100 ⇒ 13
WM: 1d100 ⇒ 53
Enc Type: 1d100 ⇒ 82
Number: 1d4 ⇒ 1

The party banks a fire, and huddles together in the unusual wintry weather trying to stay warm. Keeping watch one at a time, the first watch for Agatha passes without incident. She wakes the shivering mage, Trawets, and he huddles in his blankets as the wind picks up.
He sits looking out from the fire, for any signs of movement. As he yawns softly and thinks of the strange creatures they have already seen today, he strains to keep warm and awake in the freezing temperatures.
Trawets, give a perception check to see the Wandering Monster coming, or you'll face him alone in the Surprise Round. He's sneaky, so it'll be tough...

DM DoctorEvil |

Sorry for the absence. Back to normal posting, I hope.
As Trawets wanders around the campsite, nice and toasty from his Endure Elements spell, and the others try to get some rest on the cold hard ground, a hissing sound erupts from the far end of the camp.
Trying to get badly needed warmth from your fire, a 3' long, dog-sized lizard stumbles into your camp. A pair of horns rise from either side of its head, and its skin is covered in mottled green scales from which a blue electrical glow emits.
The hungry and cold lizard leaps on the sleeping Lars savaging him before Trawets can respond.
Trawets: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Talon: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Agatha: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Medtrinia: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Shocker: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Waking up from the sounds of combat are at DC 15 Perception to awaken on your own from the sounds. That DC decreases by 5 each round as the noise builds

DM DoctorEvil |

Wandering Lizard - Round 1
22 Lizard
20 Talon
20 Agatha
5 Meditrina
3 Trawets
Oblivious to the rest of you, the lizard continues shocking and chewing on Lars (who won't make it).
Roll your perceptions at DC 15 to awaken on your own, and then you may act. If fail, you are still asleep this round and may try again next roond at DC 10

Wandering Lizard - Round 1 -concluded
As Talon and Agatha continuing sleeping of someplace warm and cozy, Meditrina awakens to find herself freezing and Lars being torn to bits by a hungry lizard.
Reacting quickly, she sends a bolt of Sarenrae's cleansing fire at the lizard, scalding the creature just as Trawets' magic missile slams into the other flank of the beast.
End of Round 1
Add 5 to your Perception die rolls to wake up in the second round, full combat is on.

DM DoctorEvil |

Wandering Lizard - Round 2
22 Lizard (8hp dmg taken)
20 Talon (sleeping)
20 Agatha (sleeping)
5 Meditrina
3 Trawets
The lizard, now angered by the fire and the force bolt, rushes at Trawets trying to bite him. The bite misses the mage, but with Trawets in proximity, the lizard discharges a bolt of electricity meant to fry the him as well.
Lizard Bite: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Shock Dmg: 1d8 ⇒ 6
Trawets can perform a DC 12 Reflex to halve the damage from the shock to just 3hp. All the party is on the clock now. Remember to take your bonus to Perception if asleep.

Trawets Aarock |

Reflex Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Trawets manages to dodge just enough away that only a small portion of the electricity gets him.
He then steps back away and fires a force missile at the beast.
Force Missile: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
"Nice shooting Meditrina! Take this you beast!

![]() |

perception: 1d20 + 4 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 5 = 23
With the sound of battle in the air, Talon quickly wakes.
"No rest for the weary! Lars!!!" Talon mourns as he jumps to his feet and sees his mauled companion.
The rogue stands and hurls a dagger at the lizard.
attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
dmg: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Wandering Lizard - Round 2
Talon, aren't standing and drawing a weapon both move actions? As such, I will have you throw from prone (it's still a hit).
Talon wakes and grabbing a dagger from this belt he turns and throws at the invading beast. The dagger strikes true, hitting the lizard in the flank.
The sound of combat also awakens Agatha who leaps to her feet grabbing her weapon and readying for an attack.
Seeing the efficacy of her fire bolts, Meditrina calls on her patron deity to deliver another fiery blow at the slow-moving lizard. The flame strike bakes the creature who staggers and then falls as a force missile from Trawets finishes it off.
End of Combat
Just a wandering monster encounter related to overnight camping, but it does garner you XP. It is also the end of Lars, so we'll divide the XP 4 ways now. That means you each earn 150 xp for dispatching the wandering lizard, this moves your cumulative total to 1152/1300 or 89% to next level. Time to start thinking about level up options!

DM DoctorEvil |

The rest of the night is uneventful, and the heroes awaken cold and dusted with snow but ready to continue the chase for the bandits that have captured the Lady Argentea.
please give me your prepped spells and don't forget to heal 1 hp if needed. Also, all your daily skills/abilities reset. If there was anything Lars was holding, that you want to claim, get it.

![]() |

Yes, draw and stand up both move actions. I forgot I still don't have +1 BAB.
Talon mourns the loss of Lars. Though the rogue had not known Lars for long, Lars was the kind of warrior you wanted at your back.
"He was an excellent tracker and trap finder...better than I am, for certain. He will be sorely missed."
With the ground frozen solid, Talon buries the man under a layer of snow and prepares to head out.
"We had better keep moving. I think we needed to rest, but I'm not sure we had time for it."
Wow...that level is coming fast! I don't want/need any of his gear.

Trawets Aarock |

Trawets looks uncomfortable as he sorts through Lars' things. "There are 7 silver and 9 copper here we should take. The blanket, bedroll, rope and grappling hook might come in handy but if I carry anymore I will be slowed down by it."
After awaking the next morning and leafing through he spellbook Trawets proclaims, "I can memorize endure elements twice today which would protect two of us from the cold weather, however that means I won't be able to memorize anything other than magic missile or burning hands, I'll still have the ability to use my force missile a few times per day. What do you guys think?"

Meditrina Vanhishikha |

Meditrina pips up, although she is still slightly subdued over the death of Lars.
"I can also prepare Endure Elements if one of us requires it , or perhaps I could pick up a second use of Burning Hands? If any of you have preferences don't hesitate to let me know"
GM my list would currently be
Domain Slot: Burning Hands x1
Spell Slot #1: Bless
Spell Slot #2: Fill, will prolly default to Burning Hands unless we want something else in that slot.
