About Talon Thief-takerTalon Thief-taker
SPECIAL ABILITIES:
Bonus Feat Humans select one extra feat at 1st level. Evasion At 2nd level and higher, a rogue can avoid even magical and unusual attacks with great agility. If she makes a successful Reflex saving throw against an attack that normally deals half damage on a successful save, she instead takes no damage. Evasion can be used only if the rogue is wearing light armor or no armor. A helpless rogue does not gain the benefit of evasion. Hidden Blade A knife master adds 1/2 her level on Sleight of Hand checks made to conceal a light blade. This ability replaces trapfinding. Reactionary You were bullied often as a child, but never quite developed an offensive response. Instead, you became adept at anticipating sudden attacks and reacting to danger quickly. Benefit: You gain a +2 trait bonus on initiative checks. River Rat You learned to swim right after you learned to walk. When you were a youth, a gang of river pirates put you to work swimming in nighttime rivers and canals with a dagger between your teeth so you could sever the anchor ropes of merchant vessels. You gain a +1 trait bonus on damage rolls with a dagger and a +1 trait bonus on Swim checks. Swim is always a class skill for you. Rogue Talents As a rogue gains experience, she learns a number of talents that aid her and confound her foes. Starting at 2nd level, a rogue gains one rogue talent. She gains an additional rogue talent for every 2 levels of rogue attained after 2nd level. A rogue cannot select an individual talent more than once. Has selected Finesse Rogue. Skilled Humans gain an additional skill rank at first level and one additional rank whenever they gain a level. Sneak Stab (Ex) A knife master focuses her ability to deal sneak attack damage with daggers and similar weapons to such a degree that she can deal more sneak attack damage with those weapons at the expense of sneak attacks with other weapons. When she makes a sneak attack with a dagger, kerambit, kukri, punching daggers, starknife, or swordbreaker dagger, she uses d8s to roll sneak attack damage instead of d6s. For sneak attacks with all other weapons, she uses d4s instead of d6s. This ability is identical in all other ways to sneak attack, and supplements that ability. Weapon and Armor Proficiency Rogues are proficient with all simple weapons, plus the hand crossbow, rapier, sap, shortbow, and short sword. Rogues are proficient with light armor, but not with shields. BACKGROUND:
Talon is a jaded and tired man working to overcome his past and experience a better tomorrow...if not for himself, then for someone else. For many years, he worked alone as a bounty hunter, tracking those on the run who threatened the peace— and then lining his own pockets with the bounty. He specialized in capturing thieves, and earned the surname Thief-taker for the large number he put behind bars. He often sailed around the Inner Sea area searching for his prey, and is sure-footed on a boat. Once, Talon enjoyed a good life with his family in the city of Cassomir in the empire of Taldor. He would leave for a few weeks, collect a bounty, then return home until funds ran out and he had to leave again. He found great satisfaction in capturing dangerous criminals and taking them off the street. He didn't much mind that the money helping to pay for his family’s lifestyle was paid capturing enemies who were full of vengeance. Now, that all seems so long ago. It was after one difficult day of work that Talon came across a small group of armed men. Their armor and weapons were covered in blood. They said nothing, advancing with murder in their eyes and skillful blades. Outnumbered and outmatched, Talon survived the brutal attack thanks only to his keen knowledge of the local area he had long worked in. He escaped his tormentors by hiding in the cavity of a rock. He was bruised, bleeding, and barely alive, but slowly made his way back home. Though everything looked normal from the outside, inside it was another story. His young wife and twin sons had been killed in the most grisly manner. That is when Talon died inside. Talon does not know who killed his family, but he will never stop searching. He remembers the faces of the men who sought to kill him, but has found it much more difficult to find them than he anticipated. Knowing that this hit squad could have been hired by any number of vengeful criminals he apprehended, he looks for clues wherever he can. He knows it may take time to put the puzzle together. Today, Talon loses himself in his work, but also in other vices such as drinking and gambling. Talon tracked his bounty to Heldren after finding a reference to the Silver Stoat, Heldren's single inn. But now the trail has gone cold. Out of funds after blowing everything gambling, Talon may need to consider any job to get back on his feet. And perhaps find a reason to keep going at all.
