Likely we need to put the Round on your posts. Meditrina's withdraw action, her second, was part of the round before (round 3). She is now two move actions away from the group. The hold-up has been for Agatha to act. She moved up and readied an action last round but needs a round 3 action. What Meditrina says she will channel for Round 4 action, but we aren't to her and based on her double withdraws, she isn't within 30' of any party members anyway. Things are bit scrambled, let's try to stay in some semblance of order.
Agatha needs an action or I will run her tonight. After one sprite acts, Meditrina can act as channeling isn't much of a benefit from where she stands. Then we can start Round 5 and Talon can act.

DM DoctorEvil |

Winter Portal - Round 4 - continued
Agatha swings overhead at the pesky flying sprites, and luckily catches one. The big blade does some damage, but some is magically resisted by the fey creature as well. It stays in the fight.
Having taken a big hit, Red Sprite flies back 5' and launches her Color Spray at the big Ulfen Warrior.
DC 12 Will save for Agatha and Lucien, who is in the blast radius again. Now Meditrina, who is two move actions away, and deciding not to channel, can post what she is going to do, and the round will end.

DM DoctorEvil |

The Winter Portal - Round 4 - continued
Will roll Lucien's save in the interest of moving things along.
Lucien DC 12 Will: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
The blinding display of colors and patterns staggers both Lucien and Agatha momentarily. The Ulfen warrior is able to overcome the mind-affecting barrage, but Lucien is not so lucky, and he falls face first into the snow.
Now Meditrina is up to end the round.

DM DoctorEvil |

The Winter Portal - Round 5
19 Talon (deafened)
15 Lucien (unconscious for 6 rounds)
9 Trawets (deafened, unconscious for 3 rds)
16 Green Sprite
15 Hommelstaub
14 Teb Knotten
9 Agatha
7 Red Sprite (7hp dmg)
3 Meditrina (3 move actions away)
Talon, I know you posted above, but given the new situation, I will allow you to post something different.

Meditrina Vanhishikha |

Okay then...with Meditrina giving up, we really stand no chance at all. I guess we all have to run, then? Can we at least try to tactically withdraw and help our friends get out of there, too? We just rested and have full resources...
Taking exception to you pinging me for this, when we had a low success rate from the beginning. We had trying movement conditions, an inability to use any sort of ranged attack (total concealment beyond 10 feet) which meant no fire attacks from me or arrows from Lucien, we then failed a perception/trap finding check, set off a trap (penalty to init + deafness on two members), got hit with a surprise round, stood around for two rounds instead of retreating and promptly lost our wizard to Color Spray, and tried to do a heroic last stand (doing no damage to like, any enemies around us) instead of falling back and regrouping. After asking people if we could retreat, I then started to retreat myself, hoping people would follow my lead, but it still took 4 rounds for you to realise we couldn't win this encounter on this occasion. I'm sorry but I'm just genuinely confused as to how you saw a different outcome, when 90% of our melee attacks were missing, ranged was out, AOE channeling was out (couldn't see allies / enemies), AOE Spells were out (ditto), no arcane caster etc.

Okay, I'm torn on what to do here. A big hit from Agatha could potentially turn the tide, though for now I don't see any way to win this. I think Agatha's options at this point are either to rage and try for taking something out, or to try to grab Lucien (while I grab Trawets) and retreat until we get some people back in action. I am also not sure how far away I am from things. I think I dragged Trawets one round...is there somewhere I could drag him that is out of view that might give him time to recover and me a place to hide?

![]() |

Though knowing it is likely a death sentence, Talon drags the unconscious wizard with him through the blinding snow.
double move, hopefully toward some cover like trees or a snow bank. I'd like to find somewhere I can hide the wizard for a couple rounds til he comes to. If Agatha can do the same with Lucien, he might stand a chance, too. Maybe the concealment is helping us more than hurting us at this point.

The Winter Portal - Round 5 - continued
Talon starts pulling Trawets through the deep snow. The snow impedes the movement of the rogue quite a lot, but allows the dragging body to slide along more easily.
The extra deep snow makes movement 1 square = 20' of movement. Since you are dragging, your speed is slowed from 20' to 15'. YOu can make it two squares, and are just one square of the side of the map. From here, you will be able to move at regular speed where the snow is not as deep.
Lucien and Trawets continue their slumber oblivious to the trouble they are in.
Green Sprite flies close enough to Agatha to cast a dazing spell on her. The sprite attempts to cast defensively to avoid any attacks. Trying to avoid the attack messes up the cast, however, and it misfires.
A buzzing sound is heard over Agatha's head as another flying fey creature races past, chasing down the fleeing heroes. It is too high for Agatha to attempt an attack on it, and it launches a sling stone at Talon, hitting the retreating rogue squarely in the back of the head for 7 hp dmg. The creature calls out in a strange tongue to the other fey, obviously their leader.
I have Talon at 5/17 hp now, Talon also needs a DC 13 Fort or be staggered from numbing cold..
Agatha is able to start dragging Lucien back towards safety as well. As she turns back, she sees an eight foot tall blue troll standing in the snow laughing as the heroes are turned back. "So it shall be for all who stand against the Queen. Tell your people to surrender now. Bend the knee and she will be merciful!"
Red Sprite zips forward, shooting her tiny bow at Struggler, hitting the bear in the backside and eliciting a yelp of pain from the fleeing creature.
Green Sprite Concentration check DC17: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Hommelstaub magic stone: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Dmg, Talon, magic stone: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Red Sprite bow: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Dmg, STruggler: 1d2 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1
STruggler DC 11 Fort Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Down to Meditrina again as the group starts to withdraw. You have any action? Holding, moving, or something else?

![]() |

Knowing he is about to drop, Talon looks for a place he can drop the wizard and sneak to safety.
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
fort save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18 vs. staggered
Can I see a place nearby where I might leave the wizard and hide myself? Maybe a big stump or log or snow drift that could act as cover to get behind. My goal now is to leave Trawets somewhere he can sleep out the remainder of his rounds, and also find a place to hide myself.

DM DoctorEvil |

The Winter Portal - Round 6
19 Talon (deafened)
15 Lucien (unconscious for 5 rounds)
9 Trawets (deafened, unconscious for 2 rds)
16 Green Sprite
15 Hommelstaub
14 Teb Knotten
9 Agatha
7 Red Sprite (7hp dmg)
3 Meditrina (3 move actions away)
Shaking off the numbing cold of the magical sling stone, Talon knows he is in trouble. he tries to pull the wizard off the path, behind a large rock, and hide from the flying fey enemies. He crouches down as best he can and hopes for the best.
Attached new map showing area we are now moving into. Tried to put everyone in their relative positions. Map also linked at top.

![]() |

With the wizard hopefully concealed behind the large rock, Talon leaves him there to wake up.
Hope you wake up soon, Trawets. That's all I can do for you...
The rogue sneaks off toward the north, hoping the others can escape with their lives.
stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28 double move through the swirling snow to the north
I think that's all I can do for you...I'm down to 5 hp. Good luck!

DM DoctorEvil |

The Winter Portal - Round 6 - continued
As Trawets and Lucien sleep deeply, the Green Sprite flies forth, about 20' off the ground, scanning for the fleeing humans. Since she was originally screened by the deep snow, she didn't see Talon (and Trawets) leave the path. She flies forward, not seeing the hiding heroes or their tracks.
Also flying out of the snow blizzard, is a diminutive blue fey with dragonfly like wings and white braids. It is the same size and basic shape as the sprites, but different. This flying creature, about 10' off the ground, begins casting a spell with Agatha the target.
Agatha must make a DC 15 Fort save or be reduced. She is also up now.

DM DoctorEvil |

The Winter Portal - Round 6 - continued
Agatha frustrates the caster with her continued resistance to his magicks and then sends him scurrying with a thrown chakram, which fails to actually connect.
Red Sprite fires her bow at the barbarian woman dragging the unconscious hunter through the snow.
Red Sprite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Dmg: 1d2 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0 1 NL
Agatha needs another Fort Save (DC 11) or be staggered from the numbing cold of the fey arrows. Meditrina, if any actions, is up next to end the round.

DM DoctorEvil |

The Winter Portal - Round 7
19 Talon (deafened)
15 Lucien (unconscious for 4 rounds)
9 Trawets (deafened, unconscious for 1 rd)
16 Green Sprite
15 Hommelstaub
9 Agatha
7 Red Sprite (7hp dmg)
3 Meditrina (out of rounds)
Leaving the unconscious Trawets hidden in the snow and underbrush, Talon attempt so melt away from the fey hunters and their tiny bows.
Flying along for 60' down the path, and not seeing anything but Meditrina's old tracks, Green Sprite turns and flies back along the path, scanning both sides of the forest for sign of movement or disturbed snow. This time she does seem to see the track left by Talon and Trawets in the snow.
Green Sprite perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Survial to track: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

![]() |

Just thinking about some modifiers that might be appropriate to apply as the sprite tries to spot Trawets/Talon. It's flying, and had been chasing Meditrina so it may be a little farther away, plus the conditions are at least unfavorable and possibly terrible:
Perception Modifiers DC Modifier
Distance to the source, object, or creature +1/10 feet (it's flying off the ground and also had been chasing Medi)
Unfavorable conditions +2
Terrible conditions +5 (seems appropriate?)
Creature making the check is distracted +5 (maybe with the snowstorm and following Medi?)

![]() |

Well, regardless of whether there are some penalties applied to the sprite's perception rolls, I'll continue to sneak away with double-move.
Talon spares a glance over his shoulder at Trawets, hoping the wizard will wake up soon.
I hope the others can get away, too.
stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25

DM DoctorEvil |

The Winter Portal - Round 7 - continued
Hommelstaub, the leader of the fey, is vexed that his best spells seem to have no effect on Agatha. Cursing to himself, he pulls out his sling again and fires a small ice ball at the Ulfen maiden. The ball of frost hits Agatha, but her natuarl resistance to damage negates any injury. The magical ball does send an unnatural chill down her body.
Hommelstaub sling: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
DR negates an damage, but still need a DC 13 Fort save vs Numbing Cold. Agatha is up now.
