Atticus Fulvios |
Atticus will try to buy a new magical weapon. A Nodachi, Sansetsukon, or to a lesser extent a heavy flail or greatsword. Trading in the dagger and paying the rest in cash.
Devan Covarie |
I'd like to make another attempt to appraise the following items, if I am able:
Pearl & Silver Snuffbox - Appraise: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Gold & Pearl Bracelet - Appraise: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Amber Necklace - Appraise: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Other than that, drinking with Nargun and hanging out with Mirela is probably what Devan would do until morning. A wrongful execution is probably a bad backdrop for equipment shopping. Or even appraising, for that matter. Hmmm...

Sorry past 24 hours have been crazy so I haven't had a chance to post.
Since we moved on from the audiance, I'll ask here as I'm unclear.
Are we going in offical capacity as guards to keep the peace, or are we there as consultants to help out if things go sideways?
DM DoctorEvil |
Castle Korvosa is officially guarded by the Sable Marine, not the Korvosan Guard. Plus the Queen has her own retinue of bodyguards, headed by the dark-haired beauty, Sabina Merrin, whom you have met. So you will not be there in any official capacity.
Kroft is asking you to attend to make sure there is no riots or worse...
Mirela Wintrish |
Ok well at least we won't have to condone the execution, but that means we can't smuggle Trina out as well unless we want to infiltrate now.
For healing after rest I think we will be:
Nargun: 54/57hp
Devan: 28/29 hp; 1 CON dmg
Twilight: Full
Mirela: 28/29hp;
Atticus: 29/34hp;
Whisper (the wolf) 3/13 HP. (I assume She heals 2 (1 HP per HD) for a night's rest and has 1 HP now.)
Twilight you still have two channels left I believe, do you want to use them to boost the party?
Also overnight I'm changing my spells memorized to be:
. . 2nd—calm emotions (DC 14), feather fall[D], lesser restoration, weapon of awe[APG] (DC 14)
. . 1st—abundant ammunition[UC], bless, command (DC 13), protection from evil[D], shield of faith
. . 0 (at will)—detect magic, guidance, light, stabilize
Twilight. |
I was going to ask, would trying to rescue Trinia be going too far off script? I understand that AP's have a certain expectation and I'm fine with not complicating things too much, but I thought I'd ask since Mirela has kind of touched on it already.
I'll get up a play post as soon as I can and redo my spell list depending on what we are doing tomorrow.
I have 1 channel left that I will use on everyone.
Nargun Firehelm |
Appraise aid, Snuffbox: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Appraise aid, Bracelet: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Appraise aid, Necklace: 1d20 ⇒ 5
Greed: Dwarves receive a +2 racial bonus on Appraise skill checks made to determine the price of nonmagical goods that contain precious metals or gemstones.
I'm not sure if you can roll for help another when you're untrained in a skill
DM DoctorEvil |
There's no reason you can't aid in untrained skills, as long as those skills aren't asterisked as requiring ranks. Appraise is not one of those.
With that help you are able to value the last of the items in the loot pile. There are still 2 unidentified magic items.
Who says rescuing Trinia is off-script, just because its not part of the written adventure? If you want to take that on, you can, but understand the consequences -- breaking into the most secure place in the city, freeing the one person accused of killing the king, depriving the queen of her public spectacle, and becoming a wanted criminal in the city. That's going to be a handful. Hopefully you have a very finesse plan...
We'll see what develops.
Twilight. |
Of course its going to be finesse, I don't intend to be implicated =)
I just asked because it seems like this is a scripted event (though I could be wrong, I've never played this before and maybe they do expect the players to want to do something?) and didn't want to do something that seemed like it would unnecessarily complicate things (or bring the adventure to an abrupt ending).
Mirela Wintrish |
Honestly, I can't imagine we are the first group that ever tried to rescue Trinia. It's too obvious that something wrong is about to happen. I would imagine there is something in the adventure that advises the GM how to handle it if the players try.
After all this is an AP with an updated edition. If it's anything like RotRL anniversary edition, they did a good job of smoothing over some of the rough edges.
DM DoctorEvil |
Had Atticus any Luck finding a weapon?
The magical versions of the eastern weapons do not exist in Korvosa, but you can find a magical flail or greatsword - you choose.
The magical dagger sells for 1151gp, the new weapon buys for etiher 2315 or 2350 depending on which you pick. With the proceeds from the sale of the dagger, you'll have just enough to buy one or the other, and have a few gold crowns left (before you fence the new items you've gathered).
LMK which you want.
Twilight. |
Early the next morning when Twilight has the opportunity to get new spells, she will try to identify the remaining items, a wand and a rod if I read that correctly.
ID wand: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
ID rod: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Twilight would also like to take care of the necromancy books, just for now. Maybe she can glean some information that will be useful if they ever run into the necromancer himself.
She suggests that the Acadamae might be interested in paying for the robe of bones, at least then it will be in responsible hands if we don't want to destroy it outright.
Oh, there was the Derro's spellbook somewhere in there. I don't see it on the loot tracker. I didn't have read magic at the time, but Twilight would read through it the next day.
Atticus Fulvios |
I just thought, as Nargun and Devan go into melee, I think Atticus will use a reach weapon.
A Bardiche +1 does sound excellent.
DM DoctorEvil |
Atticus finds and purchases the Bardiche +1, he has about 53gp remaining after that trade in.
My bad on the spellcraft checks, you already ID'ed the Travelers Any Tool, so the metal rod is no longer needed. The other wand, found in the rubbish heap, is a wand of spiritual weapon (48 charges). It is added to the Loot Tracker. All the loot is either ID'ed or appraised.
The derro spell book has a number of new spells in it. I only included the ones that Twilight doesn't already have... See spoiler below. With read magic, you can know what all these spells are. Just time and a Spellcraft check (DC15 +spell level) to copy them into your spell book.
1st level - Cause Fear, Feather Fall Magic Missile, Sleep, Shield.
2nd Level: Command Undead, Darkness, False Life, Ghoul Touch, Scare, Scorching Ray, Spectral Hand
3rd Level: Fly, Gentle Repose, Vampiric Touch, Water Breathing
After the Night's Rest, all the heroes are back at full HP, except Atticus who is still two down at 32/34.
Twilight. |
I changed up my spells for the day since I wasn't expecting to be attempting this plan. I have used 2nd level slots to memorize some more 1st level spells loading up on vanishes and a silent image.
Twilight. |
Hmmm, I see a fatal flaw in the plan. For some reason I thought Atticus had a high stealth so he could go stealthing around in the obscuring mist, however that does not seem to be the case.
Despite the fact that I had no way of knowing what was coming up, I regret not taking invisibility as my illusionist level up spell.
I don't think this will work on 4 round vanishes alone. =/
Mirela Wintrish |
Seriously: Travel Safe!
Tongue in Cheek: Don't worry about us being stuck here with a cliffhanger!!!
DM DoctorEvil |
So, there will be about 2 weeks of downtime in game terms so there is opportunity to buy, sell, or trade the things you have found so far. I will give you one last opportunity to pick anything out of the Loot Pile before it gets sold. There is roughly 2400gp per player in loot right now, if it all gets sold. Might be less if things get picked out.
If you have other game effect things to do during the downtime (like studying Vreeg's spellbook), please note them here or in Gameplay.
There are a few NPC interactions from Chapter 1 that will come back to play in Chapter 2. I will try to update the Campaign tab to help remind you of those individuals how might still be important coming up.
The new Chapter will allow you another Harrowing, which we'll get to, and also allow you to re-fill your Harrow points, which will have some slightly different effects in Chapter 2. Chapter 1's points were based off DEX activities, where this chapter will be based off CON for reasons that will become obvious early on.
I will need a few days to brush up on the new Chapter, so we can work out downtime issues while I am studying ahead. LMK about loot items and downtime activities.
Hope you enjoy Chapter 2!
Twilight. |
Twilight will return the wand of ghoul touch to the party. Though it is an interesting spell, she doesn't relish the idea of having to be close enough to touch the target with it, and without a reliable way to prevent everyone else succumbing to the stench, it might have adverse side effects as well.
The spell is in the spellbook though, so she still has access to it if the situation arises where it would be needed.
I also need to pay more attention to the treasure, I see we have a dose of dust of disappearance, that would have come in handy for the original rescue plan.
Mirela Wintrish |
The wand of spiritual weapons.... That could be handy if we run into something incorporal, but I doubt I'd use it much. So I'm probably better off going with a scroll of the spell for the few times we use that.
So I'm good not taking anything of what's there.
Outside of what people want, the things I'd suggest we may want to keep in for party use:
Cure Potions
Lesser Restore Potion
Key dagger (and get the other one back?)
Speaking of which, the Key Dagger, is this something that the mending cantrip can fix? I don't care about this being used as a dagger as much as if the key section can be repaired. I'm wondering before I post downtime activities.
Devan Covarie |
I don't think Devan would like anything from the loot pile, as of right now. I like Mirela's suggestions for the party use items, and am definitely intrigued by the Key Daggers. I would like to keep the one and regain the other, if everyone is agreeable.
Mirela Wintrish |
Ok one more question. Am I reading this right that Casters can collaborate to create some magic items (Weapons/Armor, Wondrous, Rings, Rods) but not items like Potions, Scrolls, Staves and Wands?
I was wondering for two reasons:
1) I was actually thinking of picking up Craft Wand at 5th level for CLW wands, and was wondering if that would save Twilight a feat (if she was going the magic item creation route).
2) That brought up the idea if I could sit down with Twilight during this downtime and craft the scroll of Spiritual Weapon with her.
But I think if I'm reading the magic item creation rules correctly, that's not allowed.
What I think would be allowed is if I picked up the Craft Arms/Armor feat at 5th level, then Twilight and Mirela could work together to craft all kinds of custom items for the rest of the party.
Does that sound right? I haven't really played with the item creation rules in Pathfinder before, so I'm not sure if I'm missing something.
Atticus Fulvios |
I think they can collaborate for each and all, but I know for sure for wands and staves!
Also, Mirela might want every feat she can for her archery style ;-)
DM DoctorEvil |
I moved the Wand of Ghoul Touch back into the pile.
I will keep the Cure potions, the Restoration potion, and the key dagger in the pile. If someone wants to claim them, they can be used in combat situations as needed.
Yes, mending can repair the broken key dagger. I can assume someone mends it during the downtime if you like.
I can't see any rule that precludes the team approach to item creation, but i don't profess to be an expert on this section of the rules. Unless someone links something noteworthy to the contrary, I will allow it, but with a few caveats. The time can be split how you like, but if a group works on a single item, then the lowest check is required to make the check. Failure means delay or item failure despite that fact that it might pass with the higher modifier. You can use the "aid another" ability to get a +2 bonus, but doesn't save or split any time.
If you get the cash, you should be able to find most +1 items as far as arms and armor. Maybe not exotic weapons, but nearly anything else, once you have cash in hand.
I agree that using a cleric feat for crafting might not be the best use...especially when our crafter has levels in divine casting as well, but to each his/her own.
Since everyone posted, and no one took specific items, I will assume we sell off the rest the loot items besides the specific items reserved above. Would rather RP the re-purchase of the older key dagger, so let's hold off on that for now.
Devan Covarie |
As satisfying as a magically enhanced weapon would be, I'd like to buy:
+1 Cloak of Resistance (1,000 gp)
Daredevil Boots (1,400 gp)
Would I be able to purchase those?
Twilight. |
I'm sorry, I had one question about the wand of spiritual weapon:
Just to confirm, the wand of a 2nd level spell is cast at 3rd caster level, so the spiritual weapon produced would be 1d8+1 damage (1d8+1/3 levels) and +3 to hit (+2 Bab for a 3rd level caster and +1 for wisdom 12).
Is that correct?
Is the weapon created based on the wand wielder's faith, or the crafter's faith? If the crafters, what deity is the wand dedicated to?
Other question, Are you ok with crafting feats? Some DM's I've played with frown on prolific use, feeling that it skews the power/wealth level. I was planning on asking when we got to lv5 but since the question has been raised I thought I'd ask now.
If crafting feats are ok, I was planning on taking wands at lv 5. Since I will have access to both spell lists I have quite the list of available options. Twilight has had in interest in studying all the various types of wands we have encountered so far.
I had no plans on taking any of the other crafting feats.
DM DoctorEvil |
You are correct. The wand is CL3 and as such delivers 1d8+1 dmg, and for you, +3 to hit. Lasts for 3 rounds per use.
Since the details about the creator are sketchy, we will assume the wan uses the caster's faith weapon. In Twilight's case, that'd be a whip, so we'd have to consider if the damage were lethal or NL. I lean towards NL force damage, but would listen to arguments.
I am okay with crafting feats but you have to spend the downtime to get the items, which may not happen in every campaign. I haven't read far enough ahead to know the gaps in the adventure path fully.
Do you want to fish out the wand before it sells?
DM DoctorEvil |
I think I'll take a +1 weapon & armor (3000 gp total) with a Cure moderate wound potion (300 gp)
There were 3 potions of CMW in the loot pile. I just assigned one of those to Nargun, and saved you the money.
Do you mean to buy +1 versions of the greataxe and chainshirt you already have? Do you sell those back as part of the transaction to lessen the price?
DM DoctorEvil |
As satisfying as a magically enhanced weapon would be, I'd like to buy:
+1 Cloak of Resistance (1,000 gp)
Daredevil Boots (1,400 gp)Would I be able to purchase those?
Both these purchases are approved, and can take place during down-time. That leaves Devan at 680.93gp remaining.
Devan Covarie |
DM DoctorEvil, I wanted to note it here before I forgot. For Devan's special ability, Charmed Life, 3/day he can, before a save is attempted, add his Charisma modifier to the roll. Please use this ability for all Fort saves, as this is by far his worst save. I'll be sure to remind you if it gets missed, but I wanted to go ahead and serve notice.
DM DoctorEvil |
My greataxe is alreay masterwork, so I hope to pay only for the enchantment.
For the chainshirt, should I add the 150 gp to get it to Masterwork too?
Yes. Your outflow is 3250, but I gave you 50gp credit for selling the original chain shirt. For a net of 3200. This leaves you approx 280gp.

So noted, will likely forget, but don't mind retconning, if it makes a difference. I assume you will use on every Fort save until the ability is used up, since it supposed to be used before roll is made.
