"I really wish I had gone to the House of Clouds. I wonder how Devan and Mirela are making out". She chuckled a bit at her own pun.
Aren't you punny? :p
I think it's ironic that in betting on Nargun to win, Atticus just made it more difficult for him to gather up all the coins. Then again, I think he was expecting him to just start punching Alexei in the grill like he stole from him. That's what I bet my hypothetical fantasy money on, anyway. Imaginary funds are running low.
Twilight. |
You know, it wasn't until after Dr.Evil mentioned the coins on the table were 39 + 20 that I clued into that as well. To be honest if I hadn't posted a bit later than usual I might have tossed a few coins in myself.
Atticus Fulvios |
How does betting on someone will increase the money on the stack?
Atticus would have given the money to a booky.
Devan Covarie |
I think in the game of Knivesies all the bets are thrown on the table with the rest of the coins. The winner of the 'game' keeps half, while the other half is distributed to the bettors (who arrange themselves on their champion's side of the table to distinguish themselves).
DM DoctorEvil |
Correct, the proper bet is made by throwing coins on the table. If Nargun had gotten the knife, then the more coins out there the better, so the betting is hard to determine in advance. Adds to the flavor, and I expected a bullrush or face-punch rather than coin-diving by the dwarf. Maybe he's just drawing out the suspense.
Mirela Wintrish |
Yes I wondered by no bullrush too.
Nargun Firehelm |
There is one thing I don't understand in that Knivesies stuff:
According to the rules, we are supposed to have one hand tied.
You need one hand to hold a dagger.
How can my opponent steal some coins without any free hand?
And IF he can attack me AND snatch coins, why couldn't I punch him and get some coins too?
Devan Covarie |
In Knivesies, picking up the coins is an action that provokes an attack of opportunity. Since Nargun doesn't have a weapon or Improved Unarmed Strike, he can't take advantage of that fact, unfortunately.
Being able to pick up coins with a hand wielding a weapon does seem a bit clunky. Nargun's still ahead on coin count, though!
DM DoctorEvil |
Didn't think about the mechanics of knife-in-hand, he may have to sheath it in belt as move action first, from now on. But Devan is right, without improved unarmed strike or similar, you can't make AoO's unarmed, though grabbing for coins does provoke.
Maybe he'll just focus on killing you now, instead of getting more gold...
Mirela Wintrish |
Devan, I'll let you take the lead here as talking is more your bag then Mirela's.
Devan Covarie |
As long as I meet the DC of the Bluff check (which I did by the hair on my chinny-chin-chin, unless DoctorEvil deems it is not a simple message), the intended recipient automatically understands. So I think you're good, Mirela. :)
Mirela Wintrish |
DoctorEvil, Just wondering, what do you do that has you traveling all over?
Atticus Fulvios |
That´s something I always wanted to do. But quite hard to join. And now, with my baby daughter I don´t want to travel anymore.
Mirela Wintrish |
I used to do a ton of travel, but not as much any more. There are parts of it that are great, and parts that are bad. It's great for a bit when you are single; but it does get old after a bit.
I understand completely your view Atticus. Once you have a family and younger kids business travel becomes a lot less attractive.
Now If I could find a way to travel to say Hawaii or Ireland rather the Baltimore or Houston.... Well I might look forward to a given business trip once again.
And yes, South is much nicer then Indiana this time of year... Although the snow is slowly melting up here.

Vegas, day 1: Arrive at hotel room, plug in tablet, power adapter dies in a puff of smoke and sparks. Have to carefully ration last 30% of battery life for the rest of the trip ='(
There were a few other rough patches on the trip but otherwise had a good time.
Lost a little money at the dice table but it was fun so no regrets =)
Left a beautiful sunny Vegas day to arrive back home to a cold and rainy day. Snow on the ground as well, apparently just missed a heavy snowfall the day before.
Mirela Wintrish |
Yes, I'm glad to hear that overall the trip went well.
Atticus Fulvios |
I did something like that at a medivial fair, something like "Viking Greeting".
But with battleaxes. They fly well, but if you are not at least a bit muscular you have no chance to lob them anywhere near the targets.
Was a LOT OF FUN!
Mirela Wintrish |
My oldest son loves doing that kind of thing at our local Ren Fair.
He always has a blast, so much so that he's made himself a wooden target and hung it on one of our trees and tried throwing knives at it before we stopped him.
Oh and Nice Diplomacy rolls you all.
Mirela Wintrish |
Yep, I was thinking that too.
Sadly the dice gods givith and taketh away....
DM DoctorEvil |
Looks the otyugh had a pretty good round this time...probably too little too late....
I am running a Rise of the Runelords game on the boards that is just past the opening act and has lost a player. If any of you are interested in getting in ground floor on another game, please LMK and I'll send you the link.

Good luck on RotRL Nargun. I've tried to play that twice and both times the game petered out due to people dropping out, but what I saw of it was a bunch of fun.
Oh and DoctorEvil, I just want to say, this PBP has been a blast. One of the most fun I've ever had the chance to play in.
Thank you very much for running this.

Thanks for the kind words! I am enjoying the game quite a lot as well. Great players and interactions maek the game fun. Also, having a solid group for even this long is a nice change from normal PBP vagrancy.
DM DoctorEvil |
Here is the link for the Discussion tab of the Runelords game. Original build rules were core only. I may allow them some freedom to expand upon leveling, but I co-recruited with another GM who wanted core only.
They have just finished dealing with a goblin attack and are on to what comes after. Party is a sorceress, a halfling rogue, and a Shoanti weather druid who is melee based.
If you have a concept or just want to read the story so far, go check it out. I prefer to go with 4 for most AP's but might be talked into 5 if you wow me with a concept.
Thanks for your interest if any. I strongly prefer adding people I've played with and who have shown a good track record, which is why I asked y'all (oops, my TN is showing...).

Does this site no longer give notifications if you have a PM waiting? I seem to recall the old site had the envelope icon to alert you to a new PM, but now I don't see any notification when I log in. Or maybe it changed and I'm just missing it?
