Game Master Saint Caleth

In the Old World, the Dragon God walks among mortals and the world languishes under his empire. Now, however there are other stirrings of divine power rising across the world, poised to change the course of history...

Male Human (from the northern jungles) Bard 1

HP 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Arghh

Male Human Summoner (Master Summoner) 2

DM Caleth:
As cool as the desert ally summoning is, in my opinion dustform creatures are just crazy broken. I am going to be fairly powerful as a master summoner as it is and the last thing I want to make it even worse. Might you rethink the boon you you grant Timmon? Not sure what though.

Male Human Summoner (Master Summoner) 2

DM Caleth:
Maybe I need to clarify the post above. The Summon Desert Ally really doesn't fit with Timmon's goal of being an elemental summoner. Once I hit 3rd level and from then on out, you won't see many other summons but elementals. (Hence taking the modified trait of Elemental Scion). Maybe we could work the boon so that I am able to summon the new kinds of elementals from the bestiary 2 (Ice, Lightning, Magma, Mud).
Also at early levels the Dustform creatures are just insane powerful. Once you get higher levels they become far less useful than regular summons.

Male Tiefling (formerly human) Witch (Dimensional Witch) 7

DM and Timmon:

To offer a suggestion, perhaps Timmon may get the ability to summon elemental admixtures a few times per day. Instead of summoning a normal elemental, he infuses the summoned creature(s) with an aspect of another element.

Air: Air Mastery or the ability to fly at speed 60' (perfect) for one round per three caster levels
Earth: Earth Mastery or the ability to Earth Glide for one round per three caster levels
Fire: Deal an extra 1 point of fire damage on natural attacks or gain a +20' bonus to land speed for one round per three caster levels
Water: Drench, Water Mastery or the ability to swim at speed 60' for one round per three caster levels

Similar things could be developed for the paraelementals from Bestiary 2

Timmon:
We can work out something else if you want. My intention was to start to give some access to material from 3.5 to the APG classes, which other wise would not be as accessible. As for summoning the bestiary 2 elemental, you already can, since the Summon Monster spells already allow you to summon any elemental of the appropriate size. I'll spend some time thinking up some more ideas. I am trying to keep it to adapting mechanics and abilities already present instead of making up things entirely.

Lylindra:
As you touch the crystal, it does not burn, but instead you feel the swirling fury of the sands enter you and sense your skill with silence and speed with a blade. Knowledge of how to harness the speed and fury of the desert wind whirls through your mind, until you are able to grasp onto a piece of that knowledge before it all slips away. You gain the use of a thematically appropriate martial maneuver (Tome of Battle) as if you had taken the feat Martial Study.

Male Human Summoner (Master Summoner) 2

DM Caleth:
Finding a way to tie the 3.5 stuff into the APG is a cool idea, I just really don't think that the summon desert ally is the way to go for Timmon. For 1st level summons to get another +4 str, +4 ac and dr5 is just way overpowered. You know how nasty the basic summons were in the first fight, at 2nd level I get Augment Summoning as a bonus feat so they get tougher and more dangerous already.
I am wondering if there is some way to get something a little more role-playing oriented rather than increasing character power. Skills or feats maybe?

Timmon:
What did you have in mind for a more role-playing oriented bonus? Something about the planes might be useful since there is a good chance you guys will wind up on a different plane during this campaign depending on your choices.

Male Human Summoner (Master Summoner) 2

DM Caleth:
How about something along the lines of a bonus to Know(Planes) and a bonus to Diplomacy when dealing with extra-planar creatures. Bonus planar languages?

Timmon:
That sounds ok. How about +2 Knowledge(Planes) and a +2 diplomacy when dealing with extra-planar creatures. Also if you wind up on another plane you might get special knowledge checks for things that no one else would necessarily have any way of knowing. Here is some new descriptive text to go with your new boon.

The power in the crystal senses your connection to creatures beyond this world, and you feel an unearthly fragment of the crystal's powers enter you. In your mind's eye flash images of strange and exotic places, which you somehow know must be on other planes, and their equally exotic inhabitants. You see these worlds all floating together in the astral plane, and brief glimpses of something else beyond them. A little primer on the cosmology of this world. You will likely learn more later.

Male Human Summoner (Master Summoner) 2

As Timmon lays his hand on the glowing crystal his eyes suddenly open wide, his body convulses momentarily and then goes perfectly still as if paralyzed. His eyes start to shift rapidly and his breathing intensifies, you see sweat starting to form on his brow and then suddenly he is released from this state. He removes his hand from the crystal, trying to regulate his breathing and wiping the sweat from his brow.
"Wat is er gebeurd? Ik zag net de meest verbazingwekkende dingen. Werelden op werelden, de wil heb ik nog nooit gehoord had, laat staan gezien. Heeft de rest van je ziet het ook? Zo mooi en zo beangstigend tegelijk."

Camthi:
What just happened? I just saw the most amazing things. Worlds upon worlds, the likes I have never even heard of before let alone seen. Did the rest of you see it too? So beautiful and so frightening all at once.

After leveling does everyone speak either Sharrim or Camthi? Just wondering if we can start using a single language and not having to translate basic conversation.
Has anyone claimed the Bronze Chain Shirt? If no-one else (who would make better use of it) wants it then Timmon will take it.

By this point, the light coming from the crystal has dimmed somewhat. It is still very bright to your torchlight adjusted eyes, but it is no longer nearly blinding.

Female Human (Southern Tribes) Ranger (Guide/Scout) 2

Obviously out of her element and completely at a loss for what just happened, Lylindra is uncomfortable.

"Spellsli... Ziener, wat was dat? Wat hebben we zien? Wat heeft... wat heeft het doen voor ons? Ik weet iets wat ik niet eerder. Ik begrijp dit niet!"

Camthi:
Spellsli... Seer, what was dat? What did we see? What did... what did it do to us? I know someting I did not before. I do not understand dis!

She continues to glace back at the crystal as she speaks, expecting it to flare up and consume her.

This cannot be real! The spirits live in trophies and the wild places! They did not sit in shiney rocks in tombs!

Male Tiefling (formerly human) Witch (Dimensional Witch) 7

Having stepped back to make room for the others, Byarsh takes a moment to explore the eastern and western corridors. As the others reel from their visions and experiences touching the crystal, he calls back.

"Net als de schatten van boven, waren de eerste mensen begraven met dingen die ze nodig zou kunnen hebben in het hiernamaals. We mochten een deel van hun instrumenten te gebruiken van boven, en dit kristal heeft een ander type graf goed: herinneringen. Het lijkt erop dat de voorouders van Samaerew niet alleen bezorgd over draken boven, ik geloof dat ze woedend door de verrezen doden dat achtervolgen deze plaats. Er kunnen meer van hen over."

Camthi:
"Like the treasures from above, the First Men were buried with things they might need in the afterlife. We were permitted to use some of their tools from above, and this crystal holds a different type of grave good: memories. It would appear that the ancestors of Samaerew are not simply worried about dragons above; I believe they are enraged by the risen dead that haunt this place. There may be more of them about."

Male Human Summoner (Master Summoner) 2

After taking a few moments to recover, Timmon heads back out into the main chamber using his staff to illuminate the southern part of the room.

CentralHall Map

In the light of Timmon's staff, you can see that the pillared hall continues, lined by more statues of the theriocepahlic Setekh. You can identify hawk, jackal, hippoptamus, cobra and dinosaurs among the many desert animals represented.

At the end of the hall is an alcove containing a life-sized relief statue of a man wearing what you can now recognize as typical Djet clothing of a pleated loincloth and an elaborate pectoral amulet of a hawk and moon. Unlike the statues in the antechambers above, the gilding and laquer inlay on this statue is intact, shining gold, blue, green and red in the warm light of the staff. There is a series of images carved on the base of the statue which I will post an image of later

Perception DC 15:
The features of this statue look less idealized than those of the statues in the rooms above. This statue probably represents an accurate portrait of an individual, presumably the owner of this tomb, with a narrow face and prominent aquiline nose.

There appear to be two narrow doorways leading out of this central room, one to the south leading down a short flight of stairs and one to the east.

Male Human Summoner (Master Summoner) 2

Timmon Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

Timmon slowly approaches the stairs, picking up a piece of bone from the floor and speaking "Lumen" as light appears on the bone. Timmon tosses the bone down the stairs hoping to get some sort of idea of the area below.
Assuming there is nothing of immediate threat, Timmon will move over to the statue, taking time to investigate at the images on the base.

DM Caleth: As it appears that we are not done with this tomb but have leveled, how do you want to handle the increased HP, Spells, Etc? Do we get them now or once we have rested? (Do I suddenly get one more casting of a 1st level spell or do I still have none left but will get 3 when I rest?).

Male Tiefling (formerly human) Witch (Dimensional Witch) 7

Byarsh takes a moment to examine the statue before shrugging his shoulders forcefully to dislodge the ice raven. He gestures towards the stairs that are newly illuminated, and Drøm wings over to the southern exit to take a look around. With the raven away and not nipping at him for attention, Byarsh will perform a closer analysis - mundane and magical - of the statue.

Byarsh's perception for the statue 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Drøm's perception for the statue 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Knowledge (History) if desired 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
Appraise 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Spellcraft if applicable 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
Drøm's stealth check 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
Drøm's perception into the southern room 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

You will get all your abilities for leveling as soon as you rest. It is getting late in the day (mid evening now) so you might think about resting soon.

Carvings on Statue. Sorry that took so long to get up, it turns out that it is harder than I thought to write in hieroglyphics in photoshop.

Int DC 15:
The first three symbols are the same as the pattern repeated on most of the doors of other tombs you passed earlier.

Perception DC 15:
Note that the seated figure picture has an an animal head, like the depictions of the setekh.

Knowledge(Religion) DC 15 or Knowledge(History) DC 20:
Many personal names throughout legend and tradition include invocations to the spirits or other powers in their meanings. (Lots of people have theophoric names in this world.)

Knowledge(Religion) DC 25:
It is said that the dwarves carve pictures on their tombs which are said to represent the dead. Perhaps the First Men learned that practice from them, or the other way around.

Timmon throws the lighted stone down the stairs, illuminating a sliver of a room which seems relatively large for a side chamber. The floor that you can see is covered in cracked and weathered stone tablets set into the plaster floor. The tablets contain a mixture of larger images and the small rows of images such as on the base of the statue.

Ninja Edit for Byarsh!

Byarsh:
Knowledge(History): From the bearing of the statue and his attire you would guess that the statue is of a king or at least a very powerful individual. Appraise: the gold inlay on the statue is worth quite a bit both as a peice of art and as an artifact, however it would be difficult to remove it without causing damage. The statue is non-magical. You feel a sensation of surprise and awe from Drøm as he enters the southern chamber.

Well, I got nothin'.

As the group continues down the stairs, Samaerew turns and casually remarks to Byarsh: Ben bu benim atalarının mezarları biliyordu ama, biliyorum, onlar her zaman daha önce ama bir yerden başka yolları var, ben daha önce hiç ruhları ile doğrudan temas var ve bu nedenle interred olanlar hakkında çok düşündüm hiçiçinde, ya da bu oymalar.

Sharrim:
You know, though I knew these were the tombs of my ancestors, they have always previously been but paths from one place to another; I have never before had such direct contact with the spirits, and for that reason have never thought much about those interred within, or these carvings.

Camthi:
Look see these three symbols are repeated on the doors of the tombs we passed earlier

Tama follows along with rest of the group peering intently at the carvings and statues. He is fascinated by this new way of presenting history.

He proceeds down the stairs calling dancing lights to show him the way and searching for traps as he goes.

Perception (Traps) 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Male Tiefling (formerly human) Witch (Dimensional Witch) 7

Enjoying only a brief moment of solitary concentration, Byarsh blinks irritably as he receives empathic pulses from Drøm.

And here I was thought I was just about to make some progress...

Perception 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Intelligence 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

He stands and responds to Samaerew "Atalarının her zaman mevcut ile sohbet etmeye istekli, ama gelecekte bir fısıltı daha yüksek sesle konuşan riski tehdit sadece şüpheleniyoruz. Dinleyebilirsiniz edenler için duyulmasını çok şey var."

Sharrim:
"I suspect your ancestors have always been willing to converse with the present, but it is only when the future is threatened that they risk speaking louder than a whisper. There is much to be heard for those who can listen."

Following Tama to the southern stairs, he motions and comments [b]"Kom, heeft de vorst-vleugel iets gevonden."

Camthi:
"Come, the frost-wing has found something"

Assuming that you have all entered the side chamber down the stairs, here is a map.

This side chamber is clearly the burial chamber of the tomb. On the other side of the room lies a massive gold sarcophagus with still bright inlay in a riot of colors shining in the light you have brought with you. You see now that the entire floor is paved with the stone tablets. At the foot of the sarcophagus there is an alcove with a statue of a Setekh in it, however, unlike the other statues you have seen this one seems to be made of metal, probably bronze.

The sarcopahgus has the same images as from the base of the statue worked into the decoration of the lid.

Perception DC 10:
The lid appears to be in its original position.

Perception DC 15:
The face on the lid of the sarcophagus is the same as the face of the portrait statue in the main hall.

As I mentioned above, it is approximately late evening at this point and you might want to think about resting.

Male Tiefling (formerly human) Witch (Dimensional Witch) 7

Drøm flaps up to Byarsh's shoulder and begins whistling excitedly in Auran. Byarsh listens for a moment and then places a finger on the raven's chattering beak.

"Het lijkt Dit is de tombe van de voorouder afgebeeld in het beeld was ik alleen maar naar. Als hij bereid was om te waken over ons als we vochten de ondoden, misschien zal hij staan waken als we herstellen van die strijd. Het was al een lange reis naar deze catacomben, en een beetje rust kan zijn in orde is. Dat, en ik kon wel wat tijd om deze rune-tabletten te onderzoeken."

Camthi:
"It appears this is the tomb of the ancestor depicted in the statue I was just looking at. If he was willing to watch over us as we fought the undead, perhaps he will stand vigil as we recover from that fight. It was already a long trip to these catacombs, and a bit of rest may be in order. That, and I could do with some time to investigate these rune-tablets."

"Kristal oda üzerinden saatler bir lahit atası yüzü gösterir. Dış dünya olayları basarak rağmen, o ve onun kardeşleri bu gece uyku üzerinden izlemek için istekli olabilir."

Sharrim:
"The sarcophagus shows the face of an ancestor - the one who watches over the crystal room. Despite pressing events in the outside world, he and his brethren may be willing to watch over our sleep this night."

Byarsh rests against a wall for a moment as he peruses the floor tablets for anything he might recognize.

Intelligence check, as Byarsh has no linguistics skill 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Male Human Paladin of Freedom 2

DM:
Do I have a sense of how much further through the tomb we need to go before we reach the oasis?

Female Human (Southern Tribes) Ranger (Guide/Scout) 2

Lylindra looks around the chamber
Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

"Deze kamer lijkt onaangeroerd. Met een beetje geluk de doden hier niet wakker.
Ziener. Wat doen de geesten te zeggen van dat... ding?
"

Camthi:
Dis room seems untouched. Wiv luck de dead do not wake here.
Seer. What do de spirits say of dat ting?

She points to the sarcophagus.

"Bevat het cadeau? Of is dat het onaangeroerd gelaten?"

Camthi:
Does it contain gifts? Or is it to be left untouched?

Male Tiefling (formerly human) Witch (Dimensional Witch) 7

Levering himself up from the wall, Byarsh makes a show of around at the tomb once more. He doesn't appear to see anything he likes, so he pads back up the stairs to stand in front of the richly-appointed statue. There, he poses it a question and hopes to see some sort of sign.

"Bitişik odada lahit açmak mıdır?"

Sharrim:
"Should we open your sarcophagus in the adjacent room?"

This would be a casting of Byarsh's augury spell-like ability. Feel free to interpret it - in the name of the three possible answers - as "what will befall us if we open your sarcophagus?"

Male Human Summoner (Master Summoner) 2

Timmon looks tired but he seems to jump at every footstep that is made or heavy breath. "Deze plaats is niet goed bij mij. Ik ben uitgeput ongelofelijk na de lange dag van reizen en de strijd tegen de opgestane doden, maar ik weet niet of ik zal voelen comfortabel genoeg om uit te rusten totdat we uit deze plaats."

Camthi:
This place does not sit well with me. I am exhausted beyond belief after the long day of travel and the fight against the risen dead but I am not sure I will feel comfortable enough to rest until we are out of this place.

Sharrim:
I do not like it here. How large do these houses for the dead get? Is it likely to be far to the sun on the other side? I see such reverence and respect to this one who has past, such a change to the lack of care given to those who have fallen under the whip of the dragons. This man must have been very important to be afforded such a resting place, was he a great king? A warrior? or just a man of great wealth?

Byarsh:
The result of your Augury is Weal and Woe.
Your examination of the tablets in the floor from before finds three which are intact enough to make out the full image. On one, a man points to an oasis in the distance. In the second, a man holds up his hand in a gesture of warding against a menacing figure and in the third a cyclone of dust or sand engulfs a humanoid shape. Drøm pecks at the images and the elaborate designs around them and seems intrigued. You could learn spells from these tablets as from a scroll if you and Drøm were to study them while resting.

Samaerew:
You are likely to have to spend at least another two hours in the necropolis. Survival: however, it is fairly obvious that it is likely safer, although maybe creepier, to rest in the tombs rather than exposed in the open at the other side.

Perception DC 20:
Like the stone sarcophagus upstairs, the sarcophagus here is unlikely to have been able to be carried in from the outside. Also there are no marks on the floor of it having been dragged, leaving the question of how the builders of this tomb got it in.

Male Human Summoner (Master Summoner) 2

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

Why am I getting all these good rolls on unimportant perception checks?

Male Human Paladin of Freedom 2

Sharrim:
There are many of these ruins, and some stretch for miles, though I cannot say I know as much as I ought about those honored within. As for this one, I we still have some distance to travel, but we should be able to make it to the other side before sunset, as long as we run into no further misadventures.

DM:
How close is the exit to the oasis? I was imagining it as being more-or-less immediately adjacent. For now, Samaerew would definitely lean towards pushing on the two hours and making it out.

Samaerew:
The oasis is several hours journey from where you assume you will exit the tombs. (It is on the plain away from the mountainous area where the necropolis is located.) You would have to walk across the desert at night to get there if you powered on right now. Survival: Which has its pros and cons. There is no danger from heat, but there are all sorts of nasty critters which are nocturnal.

Female Human (Southern Tribes) Ranger (Guide/Scout) 2

"Deze positie lijkt verdedigbaar, en we hebben gereisd voor een lange tijd. We weten niet wanneer we de volgende gelegenheid hebben. We moeten hier rusten. Ik zal de eerste wacht."

Camthi:
Dis position seems defensible, and we've been traveling for a long time. We know not when we shall have da next opportunity. We should rest here. I will take de first watch.

She looks for agreement, not sure how to assert her position any more diplomatically than that.

Male Human (from the northern jungles) Bard 1

Tama nods in agreement. He wants to rest.

I'm back everyone. Are you guys going to rest now, or continue exploring?

Male Human Paladin of Freedom 2

Well, I don't know what they're saying in Camthi, but if anyone asks me I'd probably suggest resting here.

Male Human Summoner (Master Summoner) 2

"Ik wil niet totdat we hier weg, maar als het iedereen wil, ik denk dat we zullen rusten. Ik ben niet graag te blijven onderzoeken door mijn zelf."

Camthi:
I really don't want to until we are out of here but if the everyone else wants to, I guess we will rest. I am not keen to continue exploring by my self.

Sharrim:
It would seem that the others have determined that this is a good place to rest up before exiting this house of the dead. I am not sure I agree but I will stay if required, I hope that the spirits of your ancestors do not take offense.

Male Human Paladin of Freedom 2

Sharrim:
My ancestors have shown that they will protect us; this crystal is their means of exerting power. Therefore, I would think this the wisest place to rest.

Male Human (from the northern jungles) Bard 1

Camthi:
Lets take turns watching throughout the rest period, that way none of these creatures can sneak up on us I'll watch first you get some rest

It seems that you guys have decided to rest here. Anyone know what happened to Byarsh and Lylindra, they haven't posted in about a week.

Male Tiefling (formerly human) Witch (Dimensional Witch) 7

Present. I'm sure I can roust Lylindra.

Male Human Summoner (Master Summoner) 2

I am pretty sure that everyone agrees that we will rest. We will obviously set up a watch system of some sort (everyone takes a few hours) so unless there is something happening in the middle of the night we can probably fast forward to morning with our character sheets all updated.

Male Tiefling (formerly human) Witch (Dimensional Witch) 7

That sounds good. I think we'll get into a good posting rhythm again once we've rested for the night. Onwards to adventure

Byarsh, If you and Drøm examine the tablets on the floor of the burial chamber during the night, you can make the appropriate spellcraft checks to learn two 1st level and one 2nd level spells. We will say that the night passes uneventfully unless someone reacts to the perception checks below.

Perception DC 25 if you are on watch:
At a few times during the night you see a figure moving in the gloom. It does not approach, and when you react to its presence, it steps out of sight behind a pillar and vanishes.

Perception DC 30:
The figure appears to be a young woman wearing dark leather armor of a very strange cut.

Byarsh:
You dream of a spectral dragon and a shadowy, hulking figure locked in combat and trapped somehow. You suspect that this dream is prophetic, but you cannot tell exactly what it predicts or how far in the future it refers to.

Timmon:
You dream of the worlds beyond this one which you have seen in the crystal.

Samaerew:
You dream of a line of men, your ancestors; their dress and bearing becoming more and more archaic until it reaches the garb of the lords of the first men as seen in the decorations of these tombs.

Byarsh, you learn the spells Inhibit from the Spell Compendium and Find Water and Dessicate from Sandstorm. If you want to learn some more 3.5 spells at some point, we can talk about which ones are appropriate for the witch spell list.

I'll give Lylindra and Samaerew a little bit longer to post their perception checks and then I'll post to get this show on the road

Male Human Paladin of Freedom 2

Oh, I've been here, but since I can't possibly make those DCs I haven't even tried the perception checks.

Here is a fully explored map of the tomb you are in. Map
