DM Caleth's Bronze Age: An Inheritance of Dragons (Inactive)

Game Master Saint Caleth

In an ancient world, a group of recently freed slaves join the fight against the tyrannical Dragon God, possibly to end his reign forever...

The largest gap that you would have to jump in the immediate vicinity is a little wider than 10'.

Erie misses her footing leaping between roofs and falls to the street below, which fortunately is only 15' below.

From the roofs, you can see several guards finally figure out what is going on and head into the alleyway. The guards are still far enough away that you can probably get away, since Erie and Krathok are probably between the two nothern buildings at this point.

Orion will aid Erie as best he can. I think everyone's priority at this point is escape.

It seems that the guards arriving on the scene are preoccupied enough with the two unconscious guards who you left behind before they notice that he wyrmling is gone that you have plenty of time to escape into the back alleys of Vel Daeroth.

Female Elf Scout 1/Fighter (Targeteer) 2

Erie will book it to safety. If she can do so via the city streets, she does so.

If not, here are some rolls for climbing and acrobatics checks.

Climb 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Climb 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Climb 3: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Acrobatics 1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Acrobatics 2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Acrobatics 3: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

While moving through the city, Erie will attempt to blend in and hide from guards.
Stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23

Male Dwarf Rogue (scout) 4

Kjolmar attempts to flee the scene by jumping from roof to roof. After a few blocks, he'll move to ground level and try to escape the city by moving through the alleyways and keeping out of sight.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Climb: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

Moredrel, being less athletic and stealthy than the rest, will drop down into a nearby alley, dust himself off a little and make his way back to the compound through the streets. If any one asks, he ducked into the alley to avoid the rioting.

This is assuming there are still people on the streets, not just guards.

Orion is running/gliding across the rooftops to escape and will make his way back to the sanctuary ASAP

You can return to the compound without much trouble since while the guards are all running towards the riot everyone else is running away, so you go unnoticed in the confusion.

Arriving back at the compound, the sentries Belisarius set let you in. They look surprised and awed that you managed to capture the wyrmling. It does not appear that Belisarius or the men with him have returned.

I imagine i'm the one carrying the Wyrmiling across one shoulder. Orion looks to the nearest guard, "Where should I put this?"

They look at each other for a moment since they have definitely never been asked this question before. Maybe in the cellar? That's the most secure room in the compound. They point to one of the storage buildings along the southern wall.

Orion will uncerimoniously deposit the unconscious wyrmling in the storage cellar and guard it until Belsarius comes back.

Did I miss something?

I thought you'd killed the wyrmling.

Female Elf Scout 1/Fighter (Targeteer) 2

Likewise - I could have sworn you killed it.

"Oh, right." Orion says as he comes off the wall to walk over to the wyrmling and with both hands bring his club overhead then down on the wymlings skull. (presumably flattening said skull). Then wordlessly go back to climbing the wall.

Yep - turned it to a pancake.

For reference, this is what we got from the litter: Peeking into the litter, you see a literal bed of treasure, presumably intended to become the beginnings of this unfortunate dragon's hoard. Amid the layer of gold is a blindingly shiny shirt of silvery chainmail and a colorfully painted bow along with a small lacquer-work box and a dagger made out of strange reddish bronze.

I guess it is dead then. Do you still bring the body with you, or leave it where it fell?

DM Caleth wrote:

I had sword I killed it too, but I thought the DM might know something I didn't. I just brought the corpse back so we can burn it to keep it from being raised. Well, raised easily anyway.

"Does it bother anyone else that Belisarius isn't back yet?"
Looking around quickly: "I mean, I hope they're all alright."

I'm going to be away camping this weekend from sometime this afternoon to late Sunday. No internet likely.

As you are milling around the entrance area with the dead wyrmling, one of Belisarius' men comes running in, bloodied and obviousl having fought his way back. He looks around for a moment frantically. Where is everybody? I was supposed to cover their retreat, how have they not returned yet?

Treasure taken from litter:
Lamellar Leather Armor
Unidentified Belt
Mithral Chain Shirt
Unidentified Dagger
Laquer Box
Unidentified Shortbow
Unidentified Potion
Unidentified Wand
Unidentified Horn
[1700gp in jewelry and gems]

"You are the first to return. "

Half-Orc Barbarian 1

Krathok moves to the bloodied man who has returned and places a hand on his chest. Eyes closed, he draws the man's pain and hurt unto himself.

Transfer wounds for 1d6 ⇒ 5 healing to the man, and 3 non-lethal damage for Krathok. 6/7 Transfer Wounds remaining

Male Dwarf Rogue (scout) 4

Kjolmar looks at the ground angrily at the implications of the man's words, because it seems that some of their men were lost. However, he doesn't speak, staying off to the side of the party.

A shadow covers the courtyard immidiatley inside the gate as a dragon wings its way over the wall and lands nearby. You can tell that this particular dragon is fortunately Urrax. Without bothering to shift into his human form, he strides over to you with virtually earth shaking footfalls.

Who's idea was this! Belisarius, you have finally crossed the line! I agreed that you could live under my protection as long as you did not resort to acts of terror or violence! Now the Dragon God's forces have captured dragonborn and all of our safety is compromised. As Urrax expresses his rage, you can feel that Urrax is actively keeping his aura of power, now shot through with anger in check, otherwise you would probably be in a state of mindless terror. You understand from this aura, and likely for the first time, the reason why it is dragons who rule the world.

The man who just arrived faces Urrax. Belisarius has not returned, the Anovax brothers and I were the rear guard, but I am the only one who made it out.

Seeing where this is going Orion slowly begins to gather his meager posessions. (Including the recently obtained loot if no one else takes care of it.)

Moredrel was starting to study the items, but Urrax's arrival obviously distracts him. He will leave them for Orion to gather.

He gathers his courage and address Urrax in Draconic:

"Sir, if our safety here has been compromised, perhaps we should deal with that first and assign the blame later?"

Turning to the man from the rear guard:
"Wait a moment. If you were the rear guard, Belisarius was already out, right? So, why didn't he and the others return? There may be more going on here than it seems."

We all fought our way out, and then I was part of the group which stayed behind to slow down guards pursuing us. We fought our way nearly all the way back here. Belisarius should have gotten here before us unless he has been killed or captured. The new arrival explains.

Urrax does not like this explaination. Completely aside from the question of what you were all doing in the first place, I have to ask whether you considered the consequences at all. Go fix this, I will head matters off at the pass as best as I can. Be careful, after an incident of this magnitude the servants of the Dragon God will be out in force to investigate.

Half-Orc Barbarian 1

At the outbursts, Krathok merely bares his teeth and moves back defensively.

Turning to his nearest companion and saying in a somewhat dimwitted tone, "What are we fixing exactly? More importantly, How?"

Male Dwarf Rogue (scout) 4

Kjolmar is as much at a loss for what to do as the others, yet he says nothing in response to Orion when in the presense of this dragon who is seething in such rage. For now he merely stares at Urrax and prays to his Dwarven gods that he doesn't get eaten.

With that outburst, Urrax leaps onto the high wall of the compound and from there launches himself into the sky, leaving on whatever pressing errand he alluded to.

Male Dwarf Rogue (scout) 4

Kjolmar breathes a sigh of relief as the dragon leaves, his heart still racing from the experience. He mutters to himelf in Mountain Dwarven, before turning to the rest of the group and quietly saying, "Well then, I guess I should apologize for doin' the convincing. An' we were lookin' to not even go with his plan. Heh," The dwarf gives a small, hollow, and altogether unhappy laugh before spitting at the ground. His eyes are wide, staring at the ground where Urrax stood seconds before, and where his massive draconic prints are still embedded. By the gods, how do we fix this? He thinks to himself, as he continues to stare.

"So he want's us to fix the dead dragon?"

Half-Orc Barbarian 1

Through the collective Krathok relays that he thinks Urrax meant for us to go and resuce Belisarius.

The survivor from the rearguard speaks up softly and nervously. I know the path Belisarius was taking to return. Perhaps if you follow that path back you can at least find out for Urrax what happened to him.

"Are there any other places he might have gone to hide? I assume you have some bolt-holes in the city?"

"Orion, can I see the loot for a few minutes?"
If we're going out again, I'm going to cast Detect Magic and take a few minutes to examine the magic items.
Take 10 Spellcraft is 24 or I can roll for each of them if you'd rather.

Moredrel:

You can definatley take 10 to identify items. Identifying all these items will take a minute or two. They are:
Mithral Chain Shirt
+1 Lamellar Leather Armor
The Belt is a Belt of One Mighty Blow (MiC pg74)
The Dagger is a Meteoric Knife (MiC pg53)
+1 Composite Shortbow (+2 str)
The Potion is a Potion of Lesser Restoration
The Wand is a wand of Scorching Ray (9 charges remaining)
The Horn is a Horn of Fog

He could have escaped into the sewers. There are not many places in the city we can trust to be safe except for Urrax's estate; he would try to make his way back here.

DM Rolls for later:

1d100 ⇒ 14
1d100 ⇒ 86
1d100 ⇒ 1
1d100 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

after watching Moredrel inspect quietly, Orion will ask him "Anything useful for me?"

Moredrel looks up from his study after a couple of minutes and replies "Not specifically. Take a look though."

He'll describe the items to anyone interested.

"There's nothing there I particularly need, though there are a couple I could use if no one else has any great interest."

"The belt looks interesting." Orion says

Belt of One Mighty Blow (MiC pg74) What book is MIC? I'm not familiar with what this does.

Edit:

Is it this?:

Belt of One Mighty Blow

Name Belt of One Mighty Blow
Sorted Name Belt of One Mighty Blow
Family Wondrous
Item Slot Waist
Price 1500 gp
Price as Gold Pieces 1500
Version Miniatures
Sources Miniatures Handbook
1/day light weapon gains +1d8 dmg, 1H weapon gains +2d6 dmg, 2H weapon gains +3d6 dmg

MiC is the Magic Item Compendium, so any item in it was probably printed in another source. Thats the correct belt also.

DM Caleth wrote:

Orion will take the belt if no one objects.

Male Dwarf Rogue (scout) 4

Kjolmar likes the look of the knife. The sturdy design and beautiful metal remind him of the craftsdwarves back at home. He says, "If ye don't mind, I'd like to use that little blade there. Also, that there chain looks better'n my current garb, if none object to my takin' it." He leaves the leather, fitted for a taller person, to someone else. He's not aware that magical armor will reshape itself to his build, and doesn't want to squeeze into the leather.

I don't have the MIC, could you put the information on the meteoric knife here?

Female Elf Scout 1/Fighter (Targeteer) 2

"I can use the leather armor," Erie says, taking the lamellar armor if no one stops her. She tries the bow, but it proves too much for her and she puts it back down "I'm not strong enough to use this thing. Do any of you want it?"

Erie wrote:

"I can use the bow as a backup if no one else needs it, but I prefer to mix it up close up. "

Male Dwarf Rogue (scout) 4

Kjolmar tries the bow, even though he hasn't any experience with firing one. He pulls the string, and though it seems the pull is just right for him, you can tell he's clumsily holding it, not keeping it level and holding the string all wrong.

"Ehhh... I think I'll stick to blades, meself. Bows ain't really my style."

Half-Orc Barbarian 1

Krathok leaves the bounty for the others.

Male Human Soulbolt 4

"I have no need for any of this."

Meteoric Knife:

+1 dagger with 3 charges renewed each day. Spending 1 or more charges enhances the dagger’s magical properties as described below. The effects last for 1 round.
1 charge: The dagger gains the returning property.
2 charges: The dagger gains the flaming and returning properties.
3 charges: The dagger gains the flaming and returning properties (DMG 224–225). In addition, if it hits a creature it deals normal damage and creates an explosion of fire that deals an extra 3d6 points of fire damage to the target and all creatures
adjacent to it (Reflex DC 14 half).

The other men near the gate look on admiringly as you examine and divide up you treasure. They confer for a moment and then seem to decide something. We are going to find Belisarius, you can follow us if you wish, but we should do something.

Owen will strap on his new belt and throw the bow over his shoulder and join the men heading out.

I assume, despite the real-time delay, all the gear sorting didn't take more than a few minutes. If it did, Moredrel would be urging people to hurry up.

"Someone should take the potion, so it's there for whoever needs it. I guess I'll take the horn and the wand, though I won't be able to use the wand reliably until I've studied a bit more."
Scorching ray isn't on the witch's spell list and my UMD isn't that high yet

With that he'll head out with the others. "Shall we backtrack the way they should have come or check into the sewers?"
