DM Caleth's Bronze Age: An Inheritance of Dragons (Inactive)

Game Master Saint Caleth

In an ancient world, a group of recently freed slaves join the fight against the tyrannical Dragon God, possibly to end his reign forever...

Is he deliberately ignoring my request about my familiar or did you just overlook it?

Moredrel, that was me missing your question about the familiar since the subject seems to have turned to food.

Urrax indicates to Moredrel the only gate in the wall which is a surprisingly small and unobtrusive door in the west wall to be the gate to such a lavish compound.

He then turns his attention to Krathok. You have orcish blood do you not? The elder races are those who were born on this world before humans arrived from their far off home. He then switches tone slightly to the voice one might use to explain something to a child. And a bortherhood means that here we work together help each other as if we were brothers from the same clan, even though we are of many lineages and races.

Male Dwarf Rogue (scout) 4

Kjolmar pauses his eating for a moment, "So, you are not a human. Are you an elf then?" He's curious, as he hasn't seen much of the other races besides dwarves.

Now that Kjolmar has asked the million dollar question, everyone can make a sense motive or slightly higher intelligence check for some information.

Intelligence DC 17:
You have a sinking suspicion that Urrax is a dragon, even though he clearly does not look like one. Why else would he have a villa near Vel Daeroth or so much wealth and magical ability, as the building you are in suggests.

Sense Motive DC 12:
The one non-human race that Urrax has refrained from mentioning is dragons. While he does not look like a dragon, he has in no way implied that he is human during your conversation and he seems amused that Kjolmar thinks he is an elf.

sense motive 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

"are you a dragon?" orion says half eaten chunk of cheese pausing halfway to his mouth. A quizzical look plain on his face.

Since the gate is in sight and not too far, Moredrel will wait long enough to take some bread before heading over too it, reaching out for his familiar as he does so.

He is too distracted to pick up on any clues or even really pay attention to Kjolmar's question:
Intelligence:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

But Orion's snaps him back around awaiting an answer.

Half-Orc Barbarian 1

Intelligence: 1d20 ⇒ 9
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Krathok continues stuffing his mouth and washing down the half-chewed mass with ale.

Female Elf Scout 1/Fighter (Targeteer) 2

Intelligence: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Erie pauses in the middle of eating a piece of bread as Urrax's words sink in, but her questions are forestalled as Orion asks the very question she was about to.

Lovely. We're still pawns of the dragons. Who does this one want us to fight?

Urrax smiles as he observes you collectively put the pieces of what is going on together. He then backs up slightly and his human form shimmers and grows into a monumental draconic form as wings sprout from his back, glorious golden scales spread out from the center of his chest and his face extends into the snout and horns of a dragon. He lies down, bringing his face down to your eye level. I apologize for deceiving you earlier. I find that this form is somewhat alarming to new arrivals. I would ask that you please not judge me on the basis of my kin however.

Half-Orc Barbarian 1

Krathok is dumbstruck by the transformation, and though there is a powerful urge for flight he overpowers it as it would do no good to run from such a creature if it did mean him ill.

Moredrel stares at the creature for a long moment, then shakes his head and turns away, walking over to the small gate and sitting down to wait.

He'll keep half an ear on the conversation if he's close enough to hear, but most of his concentration will be focused on his familiar.

Male Dwarf Rogue (scout) 4

Kjolmar's mouth drops wide, and he stares at the dragon in front of him. His hand instinctively reaches for his sword, but he stays in place out of fear and awe. He's always longed for the opportunity to fight a dragon, but he had never realized from all the stories exactly how intimidating they were in real life. He hadn't really got a good look at the dragons atop the pillars in the arena either, so he hadn't realized their enormity then. Kjolmar visibly gulps, and his hand drops from his sword. He knows that there is no way he could attack a creature of its sheer might, and so accepts that he is only once again a slave to a different wyrm.

Only, it dawns on him that this one was the one that freed them. Surely he wouldn't have done all that work, and invited them to eat with him, just to make them simple slaves. What could this dragon want from them that he would go to such lengths?

Kjolmar takes a long time to think everything over, his brow furrowing in concentration and his mouth staying silent, for now.

Not having moved since he asked the question, when the gold dragon transforms Orion makes no movement or response, save for the cheese falling out of his hand. The only sound in a room of otherwise stunned silence is the cheese hitting the floor.

Male Human Soulbolt 4

Just got back from my cruise. Also, I'm at 3 HP.

As the transformation takes place, Quodak begins coughing, evidently choking due to surprise. He recovers, and is obviously awestruck, having never seen a True Dragon in such close quarters.

Urrax looks at you as you are frozen in shock. I'm terribly sorry, I seem to have entirely killed your appetite. His voice is now resonant enough to echo around the pavilion impressively, even though he is speaking no louder than before.

Stunned, but not killed. Owen says after a few moments of silenced awe. He reaches down to pick up the cheese and continues eating, albeit slowly as he is keeping an eye on the massive dragon. After a few more moments he continues, "If you wanted to kill us you would have i think. Since as best I can tell we're not dead I have to wonder, What do you want with us?"

Half-Orc Barbarian 1

Shrugging his shoulders Krathok resumes his destructive course across the table. "Appetite not gone, just surprise. You big lizard to fit in little body before"

What do I want from you? Urrax strokes his chin with one huge claw. I don't want anything from you, except to help you, although I would be pleased if you joined me and my children here. You see I do not believe the teachings of our so called "god" that my kind is meant to rule over the world and the likes of you. The world was in perfectly good condition before he arrived as I see it.

Male Human Soulbolt 4

As much as it appears that there is a choice, there really isn't one. Either we join you, and proceed to do what you bid of us, or we are released, and afterward returned to slavery, if not killed on-the-spot for escaping. Quodak feigns heavy contemplation. I think I've made my decision. Whatever conditions may be, here is better than anywhere I've been under the custody of dragons so far, so I'd like to try to have this hospitality extended towards me for as long as possible. I will do whatever need be done, that I can help with.

Who is Owen?

Male Dwarf Rogue (scout) 4

Now that Urrax has revealed his intentions, Kjolmar's brow unfurrows and he gives an Ahhh of understanding. He says, "Well, may I thank you for taking us outta that hell-hole. You're very generous, and can consider this one in yer debt." He is pleased that his service is now extended willingly, rather than being forced from him.

Owen is a typo which I didn't notice in time to change. Owen should read Orion. My bad.

" Um..What he said."

Owen knows a few big words, but he's really not the brightest.

As you are coming to terms with your new host, a man comes hurrying up the back steps of the pavilion from the northeast corner of the compound. He is an imposing figure with a horseshoe of brilliant red hair around the back of his head and a and narrow matching beard. He is wearing a tunic and trousers with a voluminous gold cloak which is pinned at the shoulder with a prominant lacquered pin. As he approaches, he looks overjoyed to see you.

He gives Urrax only the barest of acknowledgements as he enters the pavilion. Wonderful! More souls rescued from the clutches of the dragons. He begins greeting you all, shaking your hands if they are available. I am Belisarius Taryx, the leader of the Free Dragonborn. He pauses when he reaches Orion and looks admiringly at his wings. I do hope that you will choose to stay with us and help us continue our work. There is much to do.

Orion responds with a touch of venom in his voice,

"I got nothing else and if you're fighting dragons then I'm in." Remembering his host his voice changes to a more humble tone and he turns to the gold dragon"Beggin your pardon I meant no offense. You seem alright and I seem to have dragon blood myself, so I guess all dragon folk aren't bad."

Male Dwarf Rogue (scout) 4

Kjolmar looks baffled by this man who would strut in so proudly in the presence of a dragon. He thought that this building belonged to the dragon, but this man's air of confidence makes him second guess that assumption. He carefully says, "Well, I think I owe somethin' to my rescuers, so I'd be happy to assist yer group in any way I can."

He looks over to Urrax, gauging the dragon's reaction to this man. Kjolmar wonders if the dragon took offense to Belisarius's negative connotation toward dragons.

Half-Orc Barbarian 1

"You feed Krathok, Krathok will fight" stated simply.

Krathok wrote:

You just summed up my entire personal philosophy. ;-)

Female Elf Scout 1/Fighter (Targeteer) 2

"I suppose weakening your draconic fellows is a good enough cause, for now," Erie says, reluctantly. "Very well, I too will help you."

Belisarius looks genuinely pleased that you have decided to stay, at least for the time being. Welcome to our brotherhood then, it is very rarely that we get members rescued from the arena, who can fight already. Let's get you settled in, there is plenty of room; there are only about ninety of us right now, and this compound is large enough to hold hundreds of us. He motions you to come with him.

I hardly think that they have finished eating, there will be time for that later. Urrax objects, but Belisarius does not seem to give him too terribly much consideration.

Orion follows, but grabs a leg of meat to eat as they walk.

Half-Orc Barbarian 1

Krathok also grabs some bread and cheese to eat on the walk.

Male Human Soulbolt 4

Quodak simply begins following Belisarius. To Urrax: "Not to be rude, but I am, in fact, finished eating. It will be nice to walk around, and stretch, not to mention find out how much of an improvement we just made over our last living quarters."

Male Dwarf Rogue (scout) 4

Kjolmar looks from the man to the dragon, then to the food, and back to the dragon, and says to Belisarius, "Ehhh, I think I'm not done eatin' yet, if you'll excuse me." He stays in his seat, stuffs a roll in his mouth, and looks to the man. He wants to know what the dragon thinks of this man, and why the dragon is part of this resistance to begin with.

With Urrax:
His arrogance will be our downfall. Urrax mutters to himself as Belisarius walks away to the northeast corner of the compund, still talking excitedly to your companions. No matter, where were we, he turns back to you.[/b] You should go with him and get settled. The food isn't going anywhere.[/b]

With Belisarius:
As you follow Belisarius out of the pavillion, he continues to talk about the Free Dragonborn, which is what the group of humans living under Urrax's protection calls themselves. You notice that his speech returns to draconic as you walk away from the stucture. You appear to be headed for a shaded courtyard surrounded by some taller buildings.

Male Dwarf Rogue (scout) 4

To Urrax and anyone else still at the table:
"Well, I'm sure the building ain't going anywhere either, and I'd like to talk to you. First off, why is it that yer on this side of this revolution you're holding? These people don't seem too fond of yer kin, and I'd think they ain't too kindly to you either. Now, I get that you don't like how yer kin are enslaving all the rest of us an all, but why actively oppose 'em like this? It seems a very risky thing to do."

orion will listen to Beli unti his voice turns to draconic. Then he'll simply stare with no clue what he's saying.

Half-Orc Barbarian 1

Krathok follows, nodding gamely at the unintelligible words.

Male Human Soulbolt 4

Quodak, too, will follow until the language turns unintelligible. He will then proceed to basically stare blankly at Belisarius until he gets the message that I can't speak Draconic.

Female Elf Scout 1/Fighter (Targeteer) 2

Erie follows Belisarius, understanding him perfectly but not speaking as she listens intently to what he says.

Male Human Soulbolt 4

I'm going to be AFK for the rest of today, as I have an IRL game to attend. Shane/Kjolmar is also attending this game, so he's gonna be gone as well.

Are you Kolm from the other game, per chance?

Male Human Soulbolt 4

Yes indeed. I'm a disaster waiting to happen, up in the crow's nest. :P (parallelism to your IC statement unintended.)

I am Meredian, as well as Vesta if you're playing the undead game too. That crow's nest thing is going to end in tragedy. Respect for group play is the only thing keeping the PC's from killing the captain and taking over the ship. Email me if you want to talk about it.

Sorry for the derail, Caleth. It was an unintended consequence of being in 3 games with TCG.

Once his familiar arrives, Moredrel will rejoin Urrax if any of his companions are still there or thank him and follow the others to the northeast.

Orion nudges Belisarius. When Bel looks at Orion he will open his arms and shrug his shoulders. (body language indicating he doesn't understand)

With Belisarius:
Orion's nudge stops Belisarius mid paragraph of speech. He understands the gesture of non-comprehension and tries a different approach. Ah, zie ik. Spreekt u Camthi toevallig dan?

Camthi:
Ah, I see. Do you speak Camthi by any chance then?

If you are following Belisarius or walking to the northeast corner of the compound, Perception will give you some information

Perception DC 15:
The main meadow in the center of the compound has areas marked out on it, which look like a small effort has been made to conceal them. They look almost like drilling grounds and archery ranges as if an army were being trained.

Male Human Soulbolt 4

Perception roll:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Quodak, understanding the meaning of Orion's gesture as well, will nudge Belisarius, giving the same gesture after he speaks in Camthi.

Too tired to translate, Xaidan:
"You wouldn't happen to understand this, would you?"
