"Denario, could you place the deck in the middle of the room?" Allyph asks.

When Denario's done this, Allyph approaches the deck and places her hand on it. "Borrow what you need."

Allyph takes a deep breath in, and sends magic inside the deck as she breaths out.

The moment Tural enters the building he looks at Denario as the deck seems to react. He looks around the room and concludes that it has probably seen better days.

Tural moves further into the room tries to reply within his head to the voice that just spoke in his head.
"Can I help you? I have tended to people my whole life but I am not sure if I could help you..."
He waits for a reply while seeing Allyph lend strength.

A weak, translucent image of a middle-aged Varisian woman with long dark hair becomes visible in front of the deck and Allyph. The woman's image becomes less and less translucent as Allyph's magic is sapped. Eventually the drain of magic is halted, and in front of you stands Zellara.

"Thank you, Allyph," Zellara says and helps Allyph back up. She also picks up her deck of cards. "I was able to temporarily manifest myself with your aid."

Allyph's daily spells and magical abilities are halved (rounded down) for today.

Zellara smiles at everyone who's gathered. "Hello everyone! And nice to meet those who haven't seen me before, Tural and Majenko. My name's Zellara. I originally sent these fine people, who accompanied you here, out on their journey to make Korvosa a better place."

She focuses on Tural. "You'll probably have some questions, but let me first tell you the following. I'm able to feel the general flow of time due to my affinity with the Harrow. I sensed your arrival in Korvosa, and decided to contact you when you arrived at the Three Rings Tavern. Your wish to make Korvosa a better place is also what this party tries to achieve."

"Yes, the card Tural showed you came from me," Zellara says to everyone who's gathered. "Though I'll admit the 'due time' I mentioned on the card came a bit earlier than I expected. Even I cannot predict everything."

"I had believed the spirits had guided me here but it was actually you. They have always aided me in troubled times so I thank you doubly for this."
He looks at the group to see what they think.

Baer snorts as Tural explains.

I shouldn't tell him that he's about a week too late. We dealt with Lamm. His skull left a notch on my quarterclub.

* * *

Baer stands, listening to Zellara.

"Zellara, why are you sending us more people? What are you expecting to happen?" Baer asks.

"Something big, Baer. I can feel it stir. It does so stronger than when you went after the Lamm, the dead bastard." A frown appears on Zellara's face when she realizes she's also dead, but she pays no further attention to that detail.

Zellara takes a few steps backward and a table appears where she'd just been.

"The Dance showed up in my first prophecy," Zellara says as she places The Dance on the table, "but it soon proved The Dance wasn't a good match with the other cards. He had to be replaced."

She looks at each of the old party members, placing their cards on the table as she names each of them. "Baer, The... well, Bear... Allyph, The Courtesan. Denario, The Peacock. And of course Mavor, The Uprising."

"After The Dance's leave, I felt The Cricket would join you. Here's where I made a mistake. Due to Uriah's own affinity with the Harrow, I mistook him for The Cricket. He was not."

Zellara now looks at Tural, placing the card he found on the Three rings Tavern's door on the table: The Cricket. "You're the true Cricket, one whose mind's as quick as his body. Your card represents speed and quick travel. Your journey to Korvosa was a short one compared to what's to come, but if all fares well you'll find something that makes it all worthwhile."

"Even with borrowed strength I cannot perform a Harrowing for you now, Tural. The timing's off. I will reappear to you on my own volition when the timing's right. Though I'll reveal you something that happened in the past, for which I don't need to perform a Harrowing: the man responsible for the drugs that killed the one you cared for is dead. His name was Gaedren Lamm, and these people took care of him."

Returning her attention to everyone, Zellara draws one more card which she places upside-down on the table. "There's one more thing I can do for you now. I mentioned it earlier: something big's stirring. For that reason I'll guide you toward one more person. For some reason, fate guides you toward yet another person affected by the wrongdoings of Lamm. I don't know why the Harrow does this, but so be it."

Zellara flips the card over: The Wanderer. "This card, The Wanderer, symbolizes a person who finds value in what others find worthless. He's a collector of what others regard as broken, and has taken more than a single unique path."

"You will meet The Wanderer today, in a place you did not expect to be at. After which I suggest you shift your attention to dealing with something that wants to deal with you. Events will pick up soon after that."

I anticipated Majenko's link to function like that.
Earlier
Mavor grins as he sees Majenko looking in awe at him.
"Seems like I did. I suspected it might work both ways. Be assured it's a harmful test, we're introducing Tural here to a friend of ours."

At Zellara's

Mavor pulls up a chair from near the table, turns it around and sits down with his arms leaning on the back of the chair facing Zellara.

"I concur with what Baer said, are you foreseeing any greater trouble? Also, you spoke to Denario about another person seeking us out? Who might that be?"

"What are the cards for? Do I also get one, dead lady?"

Majenko lands on the table, which turns out to be a solid object and not just an illusion. "No idea what all of this means, but am I part of it?"

Zellara smiles at Majenko. "You'll first have to see if you want to be. This ordeal may drag out longer than the duration of your promise, tiny dragon. The cards show me several paths, and I see paths with and without your presence at the others' sides."

Mavor seems to be looking for a chair, which Zellara did not create with the table, and suddenly a chair appears in front of him. When he asks his questions, Zellara closes her eyes for a second.

"The Wanderer's name," Zellara says after some time, "is Quorthos. Though none of you should use that name before you've heard someone outside this house say it. For some reason, though not all, most paths that have you use the name before that moment will alter the course you have to take. Understood?"

"The greater trouble you want to hear about, is something I cannot tell about now. Currently, the future's too murky for me to clearly see it. All will be revealed in due time."

He takes a seat with the others.

Since she is friendly Tural will cast Battle ward on her.

Tural casts his battle ward and again increases in size, a flash of rage showing in his eyes. Cressida doesn't even blink when it happens. She instead smiles at the aasimar. "Nice to meet you, Tural!"

"Tural's your replacement?" Cressida asks as she accepts the letters from Baer. "That's neat, I hadn't found anyone else yet."

Cressida's voice takes a commanding tone when Baer tries to slip away. "Could you wait, Baer?"

The Field Marshal reads the letters, and when she speaks again her voice has softened. "Hmm... I see... I'd heard Eel's End was no more. Could've figured that was your doing, not that I mind. As you know the guard was unable to act against Devargo, but believe me when I say I'm glad he's gone."

"As for the person who wrote the letters, I think it's someone you should deal with. Today, or else it may be a tad late."

Cressida places the letters on her desk. "The man who wrote the letters, B.K., do you have any idea who he is? The initials match the name Beltias Kreun, a criminal who fled Korvosa some years ago after causing a tavern brawl by hitting the son of the tavern's owner. Some information in the letters also points at him. He used to work a lot with Devargo. Rumor has it he's returned, or trying to find a way back in the city. It may be coincidence, but the owner of the tavern the brawl was at has disappeared yesterday."

"I'm currently looking into something else as well, for which I'll probably require your help soon. I advise you deal with Kreun, if it's truly him, or whoever else is after you. Expect me to contact you about your next mission tomorrow or the day after tomorrow."

Baer and Tural can recall the name Beltias Kreun. The only thing they can add to the information Cressida and Mavor shared, is that Beltias spent his time in Riddleport after leaving Korvosa.

Cressida confirms the part about Beltias's skill in disguising himself: "He's known to be a master of disguises. That's also the reason I can't give you a proper character description. He's of average height and posture, that's all the guard was able to ascertain before Kreun left Korvosa."

The exact whereabouts of Beltias Kreun are unknown to you, but the Thief Camp is a place every citizen of Korvosa would be able to locate. It's the area north of East Shore, and located just outside Korvosa.

We've got one more party member to pick up along the way there. I'll fast forward to his location so he can join asap.

When you arrive at your usual the store the man takes the items you want to sell, and takes a look at them. "I'm not buying that shiver," he lets you know.

"I don't know where you got it, but I'm not taking it. Though I know of a place where the owner sometimes buys shiver and other drugs, to destroy it. You may want to try selling it to him."

The old store owner gives you directions to an occult shop in North Point, located in Prospect Street. You decide to get rid of the shiver right away, and head over to the shop.

Prospect Street is filled with small shops. Each of the shops has a house on top of it. The occult shop you were looking for is easily found. Inside, you see the kind of items you'd expect in an occult shop. Small skull hang from the side of bookshelves, filled with books on occult topics. Various small devices of which you don't always know the functions are displayed on tables, and there's even a table dedicated to Harrow decks from various artists.

Behind the counter is an aged man, who looks like the type of shaman who'd normally live in a jungle. "Welcome to my shop," the man says with a hint of a foreign accent.

DC 20 Linguistics:
The man's accent belongs to one of the many variations of Polyglot. Polyglot is the collective name given to numerous dialects of the Mwangi tribesfolk inhabiting central and western Garund, the continent on the other side of the Inner Sea.

Ignoring the glare of his father, Quorthos lowers his voice conspiratorially. "I clean up the city, too, in my way. It's my way to pay back..." he trails off.

... and you'd be surprised how many XP you get dealing with the riff-raff that come in to this shop!

GM:
I'll assume you will handle Magambe's response, etc. - hope you didn't mind me using him a bit in the intro.

Tural enters the shop last banging his head on the ceiling. You hear a mumbled humpf as he does so. His eyes wides at the large amount of weird things in the shop.
"quite the collection indeed."
He replies to the young man. Majenko starts talking to everyone present and Tural glances at him, not too surprised at all.

He sounds very young... Not what I expected at all

He thinks to himself. Mavor offers to buy hij from the shopkeeper and Tural seems a bit surprised this time.
"we could also offer him to join us instead of buying him... Which I personally don't approve of."

Hey! Don't mistake one greenskin for the other, We certainly don't look as much alike as those paleskins. It was Baer who offered to buy him, not Mavor ;)

Sorry! xD I had a hard time following what the references meant... now I know :P

"Wait, what? Buy...? Join...?" Magambe frowns and looks around. "You speaking in some code?"

Magambe shakes his head. "Youngsters and their fancy street words... It doesn't make sense to me what they say..."

"If you want to hang out with these kids, that's fine," the old shaman tells Quorthos. "You've helped me so much in the shop, you've already paid me back. It's time for you to forge your own path."

Magambe gives Quorthos a quick wink. What he's actually saying is that he fully trusts Quorthos to make the right choices this time around. A hidden meaning that would be lost to all but Quorthos himself.

"Now... did someone mention shiver? I hate that stuff. I'll buy all you have for 25 gold pieces a bottle and I'll make sure it is destroyed."

The party hands over the six bottles of shiver found in Devargo's hideout, and Magambe gives them 150 gp for them. "I don't know where you got and I don't want to know. Just bring such items to me when you find it. I'll take care of them."

Allyph, Baer, Denario and Mavor each get 37gp 5sp from selling the shiver to Magambe.

"The pay's good, but there's always some... risk involved... Do you have combat experience, Quorthos?"

"I spent my youth on the streets, and I learned to fight," says Quorthos, his voice suddenly confident and no longer full of youthful naivete. "I also attended the Academae, and had a great tutor in the magical arts." he looks behind the counter at Magembe.

"I apologize for the "kid" act... I have found it useful to be underestimated by those who have not yet proved themselves friendly. " He smiles broadly. "I didn't know who she would send to join me in my ... undertaking."

Mavor grins a big smile and claps Quorthos on the shoulder quite hard.

"I think you and me are gonna have a great time together. I may not be tutored in casting spells, but are methods in others underestimating us are quite the same."

"We are actually heading toward a place in town called 'The Thief Camp', perhaps you've heard of it already?"

"Thief Camp, hey? Doesn't ring a bell, but the name doesn't leave much to the imagination," Quorthos comments dryly. "Let me slip into something a bit more functional."

Quorthos ducks into the back room, and comes back 2 minutes later wearing a travel cloak and hood, mostly covering a suit of dark cloth armor which appears to be made of leaf-like cloth plates. A short broad-bladed sword hangs at his belt, and a half-dozen knives hang from a bandoleer across his chest. Each knife is of a different design, making an interesting study in blade design. A well-packed backpack completes the ensemble.

"Father..." he begins, turning to the old man behind the counter."I... "

"... will succeed," the man finishes for him.

Baer, being a fair woman half-woman, counts out 10 gold to pay Magambe for the boy...until she hears this...

Quorthos wrote:

...and instead leaves 5 gold on the counter.

"He'll do, I suppose. Let's get going. Thanks for your time, Magambe."

Baer leaves the shop, uncertain where to go next.

"Mavor, where to?"

Tural offers his hand in greeting to the new group member.
"Pleased to meet you. I'm Tural, also new to the group."
He looks at the group.
"I believe most of us are magic users. I am taught in the divine magics actually."

Should you touch/shake his hand:

You suddenly feel stronger and faster. The moment you get that feeling you see Tural grow taller and more muscular.

You gain a battle ward: The next time a foe makes an attack roll against you, the ward activates and grants a +3 deflection bonus to the your AC. Each subsequent time you're attacked, the defection bonus reduces by 1.
