"I'm looking for normal Haramaki armor, a simple rapier, a masterwork shortbow, and a potion of mage armor," Allyph tells the store owner.

"And some arrows. About 60 normal arrows should do... Hmmm... Add 20 alchemical silver arrows, and 20 cold iron arrows."

Allyph places 9 daggers on the counter. "I'd like to sell these."

That should leave me with some gold for Illya's orphanage.

"Just the normal one thank you, can't afford the masterwork just yet." Mavor replies to the man, then hands over 400 of the gold pieces back to him.

"Very well," the man takes the gold from Mavor, and shoves the breastplate in his direction. "Thanks for your purchase!"

The man then goes to get the goods Allyph asked for, and takes her daggers. "That'll be 440 gold pieces, miss. Thank you!"

Allyph dons her armor, which is basically just a small plate to protect her belly region. She the nequips her otehrs items, or puts some in her backpack.

The shortbow seems to make Allyph quite happy, perhaps due to her Elven roots. She tests the string a couple of times before slinging it over her shoulder with a smile.

"Say what will you give me for my old suit of armour? It's studded leather."

@Denario: The normal Wrist Sheath drops items in your hand as a move action, the Spring-Loaded version does the same as a swift action. Preparing to sheath stuff with the spring loaded version takes a full-round action, but will you be loading it in combat?

I feel like the man's explanation changed your choice. So I'm asking this to make sure it's what you really want, as you wanted the swift version first.

"A switchblade is 5 gold, and the average loaded dice will be 10 gold." The store owner retrieves the smaller items from below the counter, and presents them to Denario.

"And thank you as well, sir!" the man says to Mavor, and places the old armor behind the counter after handing Mavor his money.

The store owner takes the spring loaded wrist sheath, goes to the back of the shop, and returns with a second normal wrist sheath. "That'll 17 gold, for two wrists sheaths, a switchblade, and a pair of average loaded dice."

A mischievous grin shows on the old man's face, and he gives Denario a wink. "You don't plan on cheating, do you?"

GM:

I see the map for the city, but I cannot edit it. Not sure where on the map we are currently, but I'll pick a place in North Point if you don't mind, near the Jaggare Circle. Lastly, is my level 2 character I sent via email okay? If I update my information below my name, I should still be down 2 HP and 1 Dex, correct?

"Kwoon would like a silk rope, that is all. Also, why are half the buildings unoccupied? Where are the landlords?" Hung Hei Kwoon will pay 10g for the silk rope. (already factored into my character sheet)

Kwoon:
I explained gaining HP upon leveling in the post about character creation, but I can imagine that may be hard to recall. Anyway, you got it correct: half your new HD + 1. Your character update looks fine. And yes, still down 2 HP and 1 Dex.

North Point is where the oldest noble families live. I'm not going to keep track of the rent, but that's a bit too ambitious for Kwoon. East shore also has many noble families, and both the Heights District and South Shore have many rich people.

If you want a common house you'd be looking for a house in Midland, which covers the largest part of Korvosa. Old Korvosa also has plenty of available houses, but that district is home to the poorest citizens. You could also go to the Gray. It's quite peaceful, but that's because most of its inhabitants are dead. Only the church of Pharasma houses living creatures.

I didn't make the map of Korvosa editable. So if you give me a location, I'll place your house on the map.

"Sure, here you go," the store owners says to Kwoon, and produces a silk rope from below the counter. "That'll be 10 gold pieces, sir."

"You don't know?" the man asks Kwoon. "At its height, just before the death of Aroden and the departure of the separatists who founded Magnimar, Korvosa just topped 23,000 inhabitants. It lost nearly 10,000 to the resulting chaos of the time, but in the last century it regained half that many. As a result of its rapid contraction and slow re-expansion, many of the affluent sections of Korvosa remain underpopulated."

"That's what my old master told me. He always claimed it was important to understand the city if I wanted to be a successful salesman. And right he was! So half the buildings... nah, that may be slightly exaggerated. But it's sure true there are a lot of empty buildings."

--- When you're ready to proceed: ---

The party leaves the store while the store owner waves them off. Halfway to their destination, Castle Korvosa, a rumble issues from below the street. A moment later the city street cracks apart, long fissures running across the bricks. The road bursts upward, casting chunks of rock into the air and raining bricks on the surrounding area. The stench of sewer filth and garbage belches forth, heralding the approach of a loud and hungry creature, drawn by the chaos and noise of the world above. As the road bursts upward the party is separated.

The creature is known as an otyugh, a vile and horrid creature that lurks in places most sane creatures avoid. Otyughs glory in the role of scavenger, wandering through vast underground caverns in search of the choicest cuts of garbage and waste.

You're able to recall that Korvosa uses otyughs as a method to keep the sewers under Old Korvosa clean and flowing. But now and then some of them, like this one, escape their pits and find their way into the city’s main sewers. This one just escaped those main sewers, but it looks rather wounded. It's missing one of its tentacles, and several teeth.

Hmm Mavor has almost no options in this case, can't move because of grappled condition, can't use my weapon cause I need two hands to use it. I can only try to break the grapple or use my whip and hope I count as flanking with Kwoon.

If I count as flanking
Mavor drops his greataxe, and draws his whip with his free hand then lashes out at the otyugh in a desparate attempt to slay it before any more harm comes to him.
Attack, Whip, Non-lethal, Power Attack, Flank: 1d20 + 4 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 - 2 + 2 = 51d3 + 4 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 2 + (3) = 10 Another 1?

If he doesn't count as flanking

Mavor tries to break free from the grappling hold the otyugh has on him and uses his strength to twist and hold the tentacle painfully before breaking loose.

Escape Grapple check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Kwoon:
Check the map: you've got your house!

@Mavor: According to the following info both you and the person on the enemy's other side get a flanking bonus when you use a whip, because your whip allows you to make a melee attack at a greater range:

"When making a melee attack, you get a +2 flanking bonus if your opponent is threatened by another enemy character or creature on its opposite border or opposite corner."

"You threaten all squares into which you can make a melee attack, even when it is not your turn."

Fort: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Denario casts Ray of Enfeeblement, and weakens the otyugh.

Turns out, because the otyugh didn't take a -20 penalty to grapple with its tentacle only, it also gained the grappled condition. Though this doesn't change which attacks hit it, it may on your next rounds. (Source)

Hung gets more nervous and tries again. He decides to try and trip the big beast.

Trip: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

Man, I hope this helps.

I'm curious how that is going to work.

Indeed, but this is an aberration. It's save versus Trip is higher than that of bipedal creatures, but it has legs and can be tripped.

Mavor goes limp and suffers more damage due to blood loss.

Kwoon gives it his all, and successfully trips the large creature in front of him.

The otyugh drops the limp Mavor, and attacks the source of its current misfortune: Kwoon.

Bite, Prone: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 5 - 4 = 18 Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Tentacle: 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 1 - 4 = 6 Damage: 1d6 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2

Kwoon's bitten by the otyugh, but the tentacle luckily misses him.

Turn progression - round 4:

Allyph 12/13 HP
Wounded otyugh -10 HP (Prone)
Denario 8/17 HP
Mavor -5/20 HP (Bleeding)
Baer
Kwoon 10/19 HP

Everyone's up again.

Kwoon will have to roll Fort DC 14, and Mavor gets another shot at stabilizing.

"I'll give it another try! I'll be able to do so only once more after this!"

Allyph casts sleep again, aiming for the same spot as earlier.

Will DC 15: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

Allyph's sleep spell doesn't affect the otyugh the second time either.

Kick attack 2 w/prone & flank bonus: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 4 + 2 = 18 for Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4

Round 4

Now that the creature is tripped and flanked, Baer realizes it's her time to strike!!

1d20 + 2 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 2 + 2 + 4 = 27 to hit;
1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 damage;

1d20 + 2 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 2 + 2 + 4 = 23 to hit;
1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 damage.

And double 1s on damage...but it's damage. w00t!

Cue weird japanese girl with pompon after Baer hits.

Denario steps 5ft to he side and cats acid splash on the otyugh.

Fort Save to stabilize: 1d20 + 4 - 5 ⇒ (2) + 4 - 5 = 1 Ouch... The amount of 1's and 2's we roll is seriosuly not good. -6/14

While Mavor continues to bleed the others continue to attack the otyugh.

Most of the attacks miss, but Kwoon and Baer get in some hits.

The otyugh looks like it won't hold out much longer, but it still has enough stamina to attack.

1d2 ⇒ 1

Bite, Prone: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 5 - 4 = 20 Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Tentacle: 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 1 - 4 = 8 Damage: 1d6 + 0 ⇒ (5) + 0 = 5

The prone otyugh decides it's not going to stand up, and this time attacks Baer. Though the otyugh's tentacle misses Baer, she receives a wound from its bite.

And Mavor will hopefully stabilize :S

"I'll try it one last time!" Allyph announces, and once again tries to let the otyugh sleep.

Will DC 15: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

Even when Allyph casts her spell a third time, the otyugh doesn't fall asleep.

Denario picks a card
1d54 ⇒ 19=> Jack of clubs.
The card starts glowing and he throws it at the Otyugh.
"Here, my treat."

Card toss: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 5 - 2 = 18
Dmg: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Used a physical deck here with 2 jokers. So whatever rolls i take from a shuffled deck. Marking the jack of clubs as used.
