Cool! Where ya goin'?

Apologies,I usually try to get my GM posts done on my lunch break at work, but we've been having internet outages at work all week. It's supposed to be fixed as of today, but now I've got to catch up on notes. I'll try to get an update in for you by week's end.

Was in Tokyo, now Shanghai. It's mostly a family trip so my son can meet his great-grandfather!

That's awesome Selja! My dad's side of the family is from China, but nobody knows from where exactly. my geat-granparents immigrated to Hawaii and made that their home.

Hi y'all, again, life has turned out to be really busy and I'm having a hard time getting onto the forums. I'd like to recommit to the game, but first, want to check in with all of y'all. Is everyone still around? Willing to move forward?

Ok, knowing Moira is active in other games, I assume she'll be active here too.

I'm glad you're all still here, thanks for being patient with me. I'll work on getting things moving again today.

Will do, just waiting on some direction from anybody.

Hi folks, my theory that things would be better in a week was too optimistic. I suspect work is going to keep me from posting for the next couple of months, with late September being the time where I can jump back in. I have a September 21 deadline I'm facing, and there may be spillover / I'll need to recover. I'm really sorry for the trouble.

I will roll with whatever solution makes sense to you. Happy to have my character botted or have my character or just step away from the action temporarily. If you prefer to move on entirely, I'm okay with that too; I don't want to sap the momentum of any of my games.

Hello! I am on the other side of my busy period a month sooner than I expected! I am going to catch up on life and get back into things. Thanks for keeping me botted during my time away.

campaign info | maps

Good to have you back! Turns out I needed that break as well. I'll be moving things along shortly.

I've checked and both Battle Maps links (under the header and under the info tab) should direct to Roll20. Let me know if it's not working for you.

Added a new quest in your Quest Log:

Active! Side Quest: Lord Soma the Pale- The party met a millenia old ghost named Khumla in the depths of The Temple of Solitude, who informed them that the main denizen of the temple was a Serpentfolk Mummy Lord named Lord Soma the Pale. The group decides to destroy Lord Soma in order to free the ghost from her bonds. But first, they need to recruit help in Belhaim.

campaign info | maps

If you're like me you may be having trouble navigating to your profile and campaign pages. A workaround is to copy and paste the following url in your browser:
https://paizo.com/people/<yourusernamehere>

Female Half-Orc Cleric (Divine Paragon of Shelyn) 5 | HP 38/38 | AC:24 (26 vs Evil) T:13 FF:22 CMD:18 | F+8 R+5 W+11 (+13 vs illusion and fear) ; (+2 save bonus vs Evil)| Init+5 | Perc+4 | Haste, Magic Circle Against Evil, Shield, Inspire Courage

So--is it time to consider recruitment?

And we have at least a few different campaign goals to consider:
-Go to Belhaim to figure out how to beat a Mummy Lord and give it its final rest.
-Keep chasing after Galene by following the creek.
-Finish getting signatures on the Treaty--we need to go to Wispil I believe.

campaign info | maps

Yes I'm planning to recruit when y'all get back to Belhaim.

Given that getting the treaty signed was the goal for the original adventuring party, I'm open to y'all just dropping it, unless Turante is motivated to continue down that road.

That may hold true for other quest lines as well. This is a kudzu plot by design, after all, so some pruning here and there will be necessary.

Female Elf Ranger (Guide, Trapper) 1/Wizard (Exploiter) 4 | HP 11/35 | AC 16 (20 mage armor) T 13 FF 13 | Fort +4 Ref +6 Will +4 | Initiative +5 | Perception +11 (+12 vs. traps or in forests) | Arcane Reservoir 5/7

Well... treaty signing is a political thing, which is part of the princess' backstory motivations, but y'know, there's plenty of time. She has years.

campaign info | maps

Well, the human Marquis is operating on a more urgent timeline...

I feel I can easily write Fench out of the story, but given Liamae's devotion to her princess, I'm having a harder time with it. Ideas?

Female Half-Orc Cleric (Divine Paragon of Shelyn) 5 | HP 38/38 | AC:24 (26 vs Evil) T:13 FF:22 CMD:18 | F+8 R+5 W+11 (+13 vs illusion and fear) ; (+2 save bonus vs Evil)| Init+5 | Perc+4 | Haste, Magic Circle Against Evil, Shield, Inspire Courage

I don’t know about Liamae.

I like finishing the task for the Marquis. It feels like the main plot line for now.

campaign info | maps

I think I have a way to write Liamae out actually.

I'm good following any path.

Female Elf Ranger (Guide, Trapper) 1/Wizard (Exploiter) 4 | HP 11/35 | AC 16 (20 mage armor) T 13 FF 13 | Fort +4 Ref +6 Will +4 | Initiative +5 | Perception +11 (+12 vs. traps or in forests) | Arcane Reservoir 5/7

Level 5: Wizard (exploiter) 4
+1 BAB
+6 hit points
+1 Will saves

Skills: +1 each of: Climb, Disable Device, Perception, Spellcraft; Handle Animal, Knowledge (geography)

New wizard spells learned: acid arrow, knock

New feat: Weapon Finesse (finally! I can hit things with my dueling sword!)

campaign info | maps

Ah Turante I thought you finally getting Arcane Knight this level

Female Elf Ranger (Guide, Trapper) 1/Wizard (Exploiter) 4 | HP 11/35 | AC 16 (20 mage armor) T 13 FF 13 | Fort +4 Ref +6 Will +4 | Initiative +5 | Perception +11 (+12 vs. traps or in forests) | Arcane Reservoir 5/7

Still two levels off.

Eldritch Knight wrote:

Weapon Proficiency: Must be proficient with all martial weapons.

Spells: Able to cast 3rd-level arcane spells.

So next level (6) = wizard 5 = 3rd level spells. Level 7 = eldritch knight 1.

(I have the martial weapon proficiencies from my one ranger level.)

Friendly GM reminder:
ABP at 5th level is Deflection +1

Second Friendly GM Reminder:
Turante, a while ago after you defeated fungal Arnholme, y'all found a pretty nice spellbook that you can learn spells from if you'd like, when you get some downtime. Or you can prepare spells from, but I forget the rules for switching spellbooks.

Szahlihsha’s Spellbook:
This tome is bound in snakeskin and the spine is embossed with golden Draconic lettering, titled “Figments of Light and Shadow”. When reading from the book, the parchment within sparkles with dim light (sheds light equal to a candle).
Value: 1200gp
Lvl 1: Alarm, Auditory Hallucination, Charm Person, Color Spray, Floating Disk, Hypnotism, Polypurpose Panacea, Obscure Poison, Shield, Shocking Grasp, Silent Image, Sleep, Vanish
Lvl 2: Blindness/Deafness, Burning Gaze, Darkness, Detect Thoughts, Hidden Presence, Illusion of Calm, Invisibility, Make Whole, Minor Image, Pernicious Poison
Preparation Ritual: Glittering Eyes (Su): If a spellcaster prepares at least three spells using this book, they gain a special boon. Whenever the spellcaster casts a spell from the Illusion School, their eyes glitter with golden light and they gain Darkvision 60 ft for 1 hr. If they already have Darkvision, their Darkvision is extended by another 30 feet.

dirge bard 5 | hp 48/48 | ac 18 (t 12 ff 16) | ini 7 | per 5| f 4 r 6 w 5 | spells 1/5 0/3 | perform 9/16| clw 3|

My big decision is what spell known to take. Dirge bards get to add -2 to will saves vs. their fear effects and the ability to use perform: percussion to intimidate. Shake 'em and terrify 'em. Not too many fear effects available, though.

Dust: how (the heck) would you rule Haunting Mists to work? It's a very controversial spell with a slew of inconsistencies. As written, it might or might not center on the caster, might or might not always hit the caster (range 20 radius 20 = self-own unless you can disbelieve your own illusions, but it's not tagged as disbelievable).

I'm also taking a look at Scare and Mortal Terror. Mortal Terror might be the way to go, but it's a little wacky too.

Also I need to remember that I have this: "At 2nd level, a dirge bard gains a +4 bonus on saves against fear, energy drain, death effects, and necromantic effects."

I also have a feat to burn.

Hey guys, just a wandering mercenary here who might be stumbling into you soon.

I'm playing in another of dust's games and he let me know you had a slot to fill. A barbarian might be coming along with me. Dust suggested that a ranged support might be helpful. Have you guys noticed an area that needs to be addressed. Any suggestions of what you would like to see?

Hey all, djdust told me in a PM to drop by. I hadn't realized it, but I'm in games with, or were since the WoT game ended, all of you.

Gosh I hope that's not a bad thing.

Anyway, Ivar is an old soul, I've been looking for a game for him, hoping to take his story to a satisfying conclusion. As Muhaffma pointed out Ivar will probably be a barbarian I may go Bloodrager instead. Djdust mentioned in PM:

'djdust' wrote:
The mummy lord is just a sidequest, so I imagine if you've been sent by the Marquis to find his crew and get them back on the job, and you have to help them to finish their sidequest to do so, you would.

I'll get Ivar up to snuff, like mahuffma, if any of you have suggestions please feel free to mention them. Worst case I can just politely ignore them :)

campaign info | maps

Welcome!

As mentioned, I think the best way to fit you into the story is that you were travelers, mercenaries, adventurers, who stopped at the newly established Lambert Trading Post. Maybe you're coming from Andoran, or travelling north from Cassomir, or travelling south from Galt or the River Kingdoms or pretty much anywhere up north, (The Sellen is basically like the Mississipi River on Golarion.) Since our party has taken a few detours along the way, the Marquis has sent you out to find them and get them back on track. He really wants that treaty ratified. So, you've been able to track them down to Belhaim, which is where we're at right now!

Moira:
I found this homebrew version of Haunting Mists that I think helps clarify most of the ambiguity. What do you think?

Haunting Mists 2.0:

Haunting Mists

School illusion (figment) [fear, shadow]; Level bard 2, sorcerer/wizard 2, witch 2
CASTING

Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S
EFFECT

Range 20 ft.
Effect cloud spreads in 20-ft. radius, 20 ft. high.
Duration 1 minute/level (D)
Saving Throw Will partial (Disbelief, see text); Spell Resistance no

An illusion of misty vapor inhabited by shadowy shapes arises around you. It is stationary. The illusory mist obscures all sight, including darkvision, beyond 5 feet. A creature 5 feet away has concealment (attacks have a 20% miss chance). Creatures farther away have total concealment (50% miss chance, and the attacker cannot use sight to locate the target). These illusions only obscure the vision of those who failed the will save

Each round on your turn. All creatures within the mist must make a will save or take 1d2 points of Wisdom damage and gain the shaken condition. A succesfull will save means the target has managed to disbelief the illusory effect and the target takes no damage. However, since Shadow Illusions are quasi-real there is still a 20% chance he must roll another will save (+4 bonus) each additional round he remains in the mist to avoid taking 1D2 Wisdom damage and become Shaken.

A shaken character who is made shaken again becomes frightened, and attempts to leave the mists to the best of his ability's.
The fear conditions only last as long as the creature remains in the mist.

A character faced with proof that he is dealing with a Shadow illusion has 20% chance that he must make the will saving throw and receives a +4 bonus on the check. If he can communicates this fact to others, each such viewer gains a +4 bonus on their saving throw.

Welcome, newcomers! Hi, Robert Henry/Leo! Good to meet you, mahuffma!

@mahuffma: I think players should play whatever character is calling to them rather than trying to make an ace team comp. Especially in a homebrew campaign (no expectation of a balanced standard difficulty like a book). Passion makes the action happen!

@Dust: Thanks for finding that! I think that's an ok rendering, but I think I'll just avoid the spell. It's too dangerous to be practical. And the more I think about Mortal Terror, the more I see how strong/fun it should be! Very synergistic with Moira and the Dirge Bard's class features: goes well with Intimidate, uses the bonus to fear saves, can affect undead, and it's spell-storing compatible.

I agree, Moira, I just didn't want to disappoint. I'm narrowing it down between a zen archer (seems like a good fit, but a bit one dimensional), and an admixture wizardly blaster type. He seems more fun, but also more complicated.

waves @ Moira

I understand completely, Ivar is very complicated, every combat he has to decide if he's going to whack people with his axe or saex. *sigh* decisions, decisions...

dirge bard 5 | hp 48/48 | ac 18 (t 12 ff 16) | ini 7 | per 5| f 4 r 6 w 5 | spells 1/5 0/3 | perform 9/16| clw 3|

Hadn't read Admixture in a while and this made me smile: "an ice storm that deals fire damage might still provide a penalty on Perception checks due to smoke, but it would not create difficult terrain."

Apparently Pathfinder authors walk on hot coals all day, no problem.

Both of those options sound cool to me, but I'm just one bard.

Female Half-Orc Cleric (Divine Paragon of Shelyn) 5 | HP 38/38 | AC:24 (26 vs Evil) T:13 FF:22 CMD:18 | F+8 R+5 W+11 (+13 vs illusion and fear) ; (+2 save bonus vs Evil)| Init+5 | Perc+4 | Haste, Magic Circle Against Evil, Shield, Inspire Courage

Hello and welcome! @Mahuffma--either of those characters would be a great add for our party.

dirge bard 5 | hp 48/48 | ac 18 (t 12 ff 16) | ini 7 | per 5| f 4 r 6 w 5 | spells 1/5 0/3 | perform 9/16| clw 3|

Ok I think I'm leveled! And I think Moira just about doubled in power.

Highlights:

Feat: Spell Focus--Enchantment.

Spell Known: Mortal Freakin' Terror DC 19. Yup. (2 lev 4 cha 2 dirge 1 spell focus). We are gonna SLAY.

Found some HP I forgot to claim from Toughness. Up to 48.

Perform: Percussion now works for Intimidate.

Inspire Courage goes up to +2.

I've got Ivar @ 5th level, I stuck with barbarian instead of bloodrager. I'm just more familiar with the class, so I won't have to look up stuff if things get slow.

One question, I didn't see mounts, do you all walk everywhere or do you have mounts.

campaign info | maps

No mounts yet.

GM please double check Ivar, let me know if I can answer any questions.

Since no one else has a mount, I may use the money set aside and purchase another potion of lesser Restoration.
